Saw this place from the retro respawn instagram and wanted to give this place some love with it being relatively closer to my house. It's a nice hole in the wall that I drove past twice lost on the way there. Loved the layout with each case having different platforms mostly 6th generation and prior. The 7th gen offerings I went looking for was predominantly Xbox which limited my choices a tad but found a good few games to take home for ps3. Jose's passion and lineup is solid and our shaded love for back to the future and others had me losing it on his abundant collection. Saw him taking apart some consoles so I'm sure he does repairs on the side and has a good bit of backstock consoles and controllers for parts. After having a horrible experience at nearby "M and M Games," I was fortunate enough to find Pixel Vault when googling nearby retro gaming stores. Unlike M&M, Pixel Vault is clean, has everything marked to sell, and has ultra courteous and appreciative staff. Roger Avila whom helped me was a great guy and has a true passion for gaming. Thanks to Roger for the beautiful CIB Legend of Zelda for NES, CIB Heavy Barrel for NES, and COB Strider for Sega Genesis all in excellent condition. If it wasn't for my horrendous experience at M&M I never would've added these jewels to my collection. Go check out this store as they have a wide assortment of rares from all generations of gaming. I came here to look for pokemon games for my ds but they didn't have any in stock and then I saw that they had some gba sp for sale. I bought a gba sp 101 model for $55 and bought a $20 Pokemon blue along with it. The guy was pretty nice and knowledgeable and was willing to answer any questions I had. The adventure drags on as I further my search for a good videogame store in southern California. Today's trip takes me to the hot and very far destination of Ontario, CA in a place called Pixel Vault. Once you go inside (and move past the confusing Western Union stand), you'll be treated to a cornucopia of Retro merchandise. My god, how long has it been since I've seen so many original Super Nintendo boxes? Far too long for me. Here's a few Pros and Cons: PROS --SERVICE. I swear, if all Gamestop stores had helpful and knowledgeable guys like Armando helping you out, all these smaller mom-and-pop stores would be out of business. Armando can answer all your questions and give you lots of helpful tips for maintaining your retro systems. Plus he can fix those retro systems as well, which is definitely a plus! --COLLECTIBLES. As I mentioned in the intro, Armando has a LOT of original retro systems with their original boxes. Everything from the NES to SNES to Genesis can be found in their original cases! Plus this is the only place I've seen that has a used NEO-GEO CD console (the cheaper one not the $1000 version). Definitely a nostalgic rush to the head. --PRICE. A lot of the retro systems and games sold here are fairly priced. Armando was nice enough to knock off an extra five dollars from my purchase of SNES titles. Maybe because the titles aren't that popular or maybe because the cartridge didn't look too clean, but I'm not one to complain on a price drop. CONS --LOCATION. Ontario is NOT an ideal place to visit even on the weekend. There is ALWAYS traffic on the 10 Freeway leading up to here and it just makes your trip unnecessarily longer than it has to be. That's not the store's fault, but just be sure to carve out a lot of driving time if you decide to visit here. --SELECTION. They have a nice batch titles for all the retro and last-gen systems but not all titles are always in stock. They do have a few hard-to-find games but it can all depend on what day you walk in. In my case, they didn't have very many selections for SNES but I did find some nifty games. If anything, I'm not going to find a clean copy of Grandia 2 for the Dreamcast here anytime soon. --SIZE. The store is basically the size of a living room. Once you walk in, don't expect to see rows and rows of games (which is what I was sorta expecting since the place takes up two storefronts). Before deciding to visit Armando and his store, I highly suggest given them a call and asking if they have stock of a certain console/game. Trust me, it'll save you the extra hour of driving and then being disappointed that they don't have what you're looking for. That being said, Armando is a cool dude and he will take care of your Retro needs. Highly recommended! read more

Armando is the best I love coming to this place. Always good service and great selection of old school games. Nintendo, Sega, XBOX, PlayStation and even Atari and Famicon. You can't go wrong coming here if you want a specific game I'm pretty sure he will have it. And pixel Vault buys and or trades games also. How cool is that if you have old stuff you don't use anymore you can bring it in sell it to the store for CASH or credit. Every couple of months they have a sidewalk sale with even more stuff with food and sometimes bands play. I was a long time fan of this place up until last week. Previous to that I had stopped by with my Daughter. I had some trade-ins and I was also just shopping around. I greeted him and he seemed more concerned with a gadget he was tinkering with. I explained that I had some trade ins and brought them out. Again no response. I asked if I could place them on the counter for him to review and he appeared annoyed that I did that. Then he had a friend walk in and they spent the entire time talking while I waited to discuss trade in options. I must have waited for a good 10 to 15 mins. We struck a deal and I just left rather than shop around. He didn't seem interested. The next day I noticed that one of the trade ins he gave me was a reprint and not in its original box, Batman & Robin for sega. I should have noticed because the print job was horrible and the paper didn't even fit the case. He also handed me the wrong Genesis title. I was interested in Batman Returns and he handed me Batman Forever. No big deal. I notified him on IG that I was coming back to return the reprint and change out the other game. He never responded but read the message. I returned that Saturday and immediately he seemed annoyed that I actually showed up. I explained that he priced Batman & Robin as a cib title even thought it wasn't. After some annoying back and forth and him refusing straight up to trade me for another game of lesser value. We came to a somewhat acceptable agreement and I walked out. Long story short, be careful what you buy because he does a lot of reprinting and still sells at cib prices. I've noticed this before but didn't think much of it. He also isn't as pleasant as he used to be. He seems annoyed to be there and will be super short with you if he's not interested. The shop is a mess and you can honestly find a bigger and cleaner selection at Lost Levels in Claremont and at really good prices.. M&M has a huge selection as well. A bit over priced sometimes but the guys there are always nice. Mando, my guy. Find your smile because your customer service has seriously declined. read more

Sadly, I must reiterate my self again on a similar review. I visited the Inland Empire not too long ago and while I was out and about I visited a few retro video game shops. This was one of them. We did not last 15 minutes in the store before the prices scare the hell out of us. This store does not have competitive prices what so ever. I believe that Armando, the owner everyone talks about in the reviews wasn't there. There was another guy and he just looked like he didn't even want to be there himself. Back to the prices. These guys have their games for double, if not more, than what the Market Value is for these retro games. Quick examples: Double Dragon 1 =$25, SERIOUSLY? This is only a $10-12 dollar game. $15 tops. Super Mario 3 = $25, AGAIN, SERIOUSLY? This game doesn't go for over $15 either. Animaniac on SNES = $15....WOW!. It should be a crime to price this game at anything over $10 These are just a few examples of the petrifying prices tags we noticed, again, before we walked the hell out of this establishment. Sad to say, but this type of business, it is yet, another Retro-Gaming hobby KILLER. :( Do your selves a favor guys, shop around first before running into these sellers who think they can jack up the price on certain games just because they are classic. (Read my last paragraph below) .....Let me just add as a little business 101. Examples of the games listed above have to be known as in the difference between Supply & Demand. Meaning, these games are very common and easily available every where for the public to get, and therefore prices for these common titles SHOULD NOT be as high as noted above. This place has TONS of old school games and systems, and the prices are amazingly low especially compared to the price gouging you see online currently for older games and systems, came in to pick up one item and spent an additional 20 minutes checking out the inventory and the nostalgia alone will make it hard for you to head to the counter with just one item, but i mean, again, the prices are so nice you wont have to leave with just one thing, i was overjoyed to find a ps1 game for $25 that ebay, amazon, and other 3rd party online sellers wanted for $140 at the lowest. First off the prices are not "scary" they are roughly what you will find at most stores. The selection is pretty wide and they are constantly getting new inventory. I have been around retro gaming for the last 20+ years, and have been at many shops. I was recommended to pixel vault games over on r/gamecollecting and I am glad to have stopped in. The first time in the shop I ran in for a copy of Super Mario All Stars for the Super NES. Not only did Armando (the owner) have it in stock, but it was priced fairly, and was in great condition. I came in several times afterwards, and was very happy with the customer service of both Armando, but his other employees in the store. I will be a customer for a long time! Selection 8/10 Pixel Vault is a store with a relatively small stock of games (compared to other retro stores), but his selection is quality. All the NES/SNES/Genesis favorites are there, and in great condition. He is really good about helping get other games you might want in, and willing to help direct you to other locations that might have the games. In terms of consoles and equipment, he has a wide selection of hardware, both refurbished and complete in box items. I always find something to take home when I go to Pixel Vault Games. Atmosphere, Layout, Location 7/10 Parking at his location is not great. There are no real parking spots in front of the store, but if you drive across the street there are parking spots. This is not really a turn off, but be aware that you will have to walk a little at times. The store is quite small, and there are things everywhere, not messy, but packed. I really like the retro items in the store, from the arcade machine, to the mega man display, to the in box NES games on the wall. Even with the small layout, you can easily find all the major game types. Customer Service 10/10 No one is better for customer service. In retro gaming you don't want someone hovering over you as you browse, but when you have a question, having someone there is important. Armando knows his stuff, and can help you pick a game you will like, or answer questions you might have. He also accepts paypal, and other payment methods for those who have online businesses or want alternate ways to pay.
