Hubs ordered the animal farm the first time and the fat boy the second trip. On both trips I ordered the vicious beignets. Both times these left me disappointed. They are supposed to come with strawberry jam, whipped cream and strawberries. The first time we didn't get whipped cream or strawberries. The second time only whipped cream and sauce. The beignets were so incredibly dense it was weird. They are supposed to have cream cheese inside but we couldn't tell. It was so dense it was difficult to eat and we did not enjoy them at all and couldn't even finish them. These were a miss both times. The other items were delicious and cooked perfectly. By far the best biscuits we have ever had so if you are a biscuit fan, this place is a must. They get very busy but everyone is friendly and the food is great. read more

Longest line I have ever seen at a breakfast place. Many great choices with cathead buttermilk biscuits as the base for most meals offered. Would recommend and would go again. I didn't think the biscuit bar was that impressive - a few butters (maple bourbon, sweet potato and honey) and a few jams (peach jalapeño, apple pie and I forget what else) were not that impressive, though I admit the apple pie jam was pretty good. We have driven past this place many times but never stopped because it was so busy with a line wrapped around the place. I will say it's a small place and you need to expect to wait an most likely outside...but it's worth it! The biscuits are huge and they have a variety of biscuit sandwiches, which everyone should be able to find something they like. I love me some biscuits and gravy but am often hesitant to try from a restaurant because I make my own and frequently restaurants will serve canned gravy , however Vicious Biscuits serves a respectable sausage gravy. Couple that with, they split the biscuit and pour gravy in the middle and then put the top on and more gravy -- there is plenty of gravy for your delicious biscuits. They also offer lots of different toppings for your biscuits (butters, jellies). You order at the counter and they give you a number to place in the holder on the table. They bring your items when they are ready. Lots of seating and inside or outside options. At both locations we opted for outside (we are Oregonians and great weather can be scarce for us this time of year), my only complaint about this chain is that both locations the tables outside needed a pretty thorough cleaning. This was my first official meal in Charleston and it definitely did not disappoint! I ordered the chicken and waffle (forgot what the clever naming of it was called on the menu, haha). The sweet potato waffle was light and fluffy. The chicken was lightly breaded and cooked to perfection. Oddly enough the meal didn't feel too heavy! The jam and butter bar was also a nice experience. I tried the blueberry ghost pepper and peach habanero with my waffle. Just typing this out right now has me feenin' for another helping! I got The Fat Boy ($11), which was indeed a fat boy - fried chicken and pimento cheese sandwiched between two buttermilk biscuits. The chicken was fried perfectly to be crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The pimento cheese ball was large and delicious, and there seemed to be some other things mixed into that ball like some peppers too, to give it a more complex flavor. The buttermilk biscuits were very high quality and made even better by the great selection of free jams/butters that you can get to go with your biscuits (I personally really liked the apple pie jam). I also got the Vicious Beignets ($9), which were tasty as well. They were nicely deep fried and filled with yummy cinnamon cream cheese. This tasted like more of a dessert than an appetizer given the sweetness, whipped cream, and maple drizzle. The place was very empty when we went, but this was to be expected on a Friday mid-afternoon. I'd imagine it gets busy during weekend brunch times though. There is a decently large and clean space. You order up front and they bring the food to you. There is a parking lot outside. The staff are pretty friendly and the service speed is fast. We got in at 10am on a Saturday and seconds after us, a huge line formed outside the door. You order at the counter, receive a number, and grab any available table. Your order will be brought out to your table (with the number on the metal indicator stand, that you put on the table that you claim). Indoor and outdoor seating available. $13 rise n swine Benny was to die for! Tasty pulled pork, light, not greasy egg, scrumptious AND plentiful bbq hollandaise sauce. The sauce was so flavorful. Definitely get this. Fair warning--it's very sodium heavy, so you'll be dehydrated for the rest of the day. Biscuit and gravy was simple, yet filling. The gravy wasn't quite to my liking. Felt too starchy and congealed. Order something else. The biscuits themselves were a bit on the bland & dry side, but with all those sauces and gravy smothering them, you won't notice. I ordered to go. I picked up and decided to eat in my car. When I opened the container, the sandwich was visually stunning (hence the reason for 2 stars). BUT, when I took a bite, it was ICE cold! COLD FOOD via takeout! But for the fact I was pressed for time (the restaurant was super busy on a (late) Friday morning), I would have gone back in to complain. If you look closely enough the white stuff is actually cheese. It is hard and cold at the time of the picture. I was actually confused as to what it was until I tasted it and was surprised that it was ICE cold (which of course means that the chicken wasn't warm otherwise it would have at least somewhat melted the cheese). Quality food with reasonable pricing. Let me note a few things regarding things they maybe could approve on... 1. The young person taking the order at the counter could barely be heard, and could barely be understood. 2. My wife ordered the oatmeal and while she thought overall it was good and a good size portion, it's strange that they provide not even a small serving of milk to put with the oatmeal. We had to purchase a full glass of milk which I thought was strange. She asked for no cinnamon but they put cinnamon on there anyway so the order itself was messed up a little bit and we didn't say anything. 3. A gentleman checked on us when he brought us the food and I said I maybe could use some additional hot honey for my biscuit that I ordered which was the Fat Biscuit which had pimento cheese, a large piece of chicken and a minimal amount of hot honey drizzled over it. Very tasty by the way.. I ended up not needing any additional hot honey, but he failed to even check back with me. I'm so glad Vicious Biscuit lived up to its hype. We visit Charleston at least once a year and stay not too far from here but the past few years there were signs for an unsavory politician at the establishment next door to this place, making it uncomfortable for us to stop in (not blaming this on VB but shrapnel hits hard). Anyway, we more than made up for it with this visit. I selected the Ranchero Biscuit and a sweet potato buscuit on the side, the sweetie got a plate with over medium eggs, sausage, grits and a biscuit, and we both got mimosas. The sweetie picked up some different jellies, which were just okay. This was a damn good biscuit and the sauce and avocado put it over the top. The wife enjoyed hers as well; the mimosas were better than expected! I also really enjoyed the hints of nutmeg and other spiced in the taste of the Sweet Potato biscuit. It was moist, not dry, and was actually still tasty the next day. Atmosphere was pretty nice here too. There was a huge party seated outside so we ate inside and it was pretty comfortable. A lot of people were coming in and out as this was the end of the summer, but everyone will behaved and the staff was very accommodating. I look forward to revisiting this spot on my next trip to Mount Pleasant. read more
