The food and service were just good on that day. Then there was today. Front door greeter was friendly and seated us quickly. Server we had today was ok. Order well done toast came out loaf bread. Ordered well done sausage came out barely cooked. Hash browns were ordered scattered crispy came out barely cooked. Sausage and toast were left on plate. Couldn't eat it. Bacon was great. Coffee was excellent. This may be a hit or miss place. It all could've been on who was cooking or if server wrote a fictional order down. Not sure what happened. They did knock off a little over a dollar off the ticket. He should have sent it back but he doesn't do that. He just won't. We liked the ambiance. Decorated like yesteryears. Very comforting and clean place to eat. I might be back but he won't.

The server was dressed super cute and in an old fashioned style. We got three different pies to share and this place is HIGH QUALITY and delicious food. You can definitely taste the difference and tell they are handmade. We had the New Lander, which had beef, Worcestershire sauce, onions and potatoes. We also tried the chicken and gravy which was basically a chicken pot pie, and lastly the King of the Mountain, which had beef, bacon, onions, carrots, mushrooms, potatoes, herbs and gravy. They each came with a little side cup of gravy

It took us 45 minutes to find a parking spot. I arrived at 1 in the afternoon with 2 hangry teenagers. One restaurant claimed a 1.5 hour wait and another 2 hours! Luckily the girls had spied some vintage clothing outside of a little Cafe. So back down the street we trudged. What a gem!! No crowd, our turkey and veggie burgers were cooked to our liking in minutes. Bonus-- each girl scored a lovely vintage piece of clothing that had them grinning from ear to ear. Beware, this is neither fancy nor anything close to gourmet. But in a pinch, it suited us wonderfully. You could NOT meet any nicer folks than Dean and Shanaat! Hugs all around when we left.

While the mall has lost almost every other old school tenant besides Belks, Panera and a couple of Appalachian State based stores, Tuckers has managed to keep their family business in the same spot. They have a large selection of sandwiches, wraps and hot dogs as well as breakfast options on Saturdays. They do stop serving lunch at 4pm, I believe, so plan accordingly. It is a small cafe style space with several booths on each side a a few two-top tables in between. You can also have your meal carried out in to mall entrance and there are several tables and benches just outside of the restaurant as well.

My burger was delicious and above and beyond any fast-food burger I have had before, at comparable prices. They serve grass-fed beef, chuck, round and sirloin. It is fresh, not frozen, and the meats are without hormones. My portion of fries was large, and I couldn't finish them. A smaller portion option would have been nice. I found the setup here confusing, as I wasn't sure where to enter from the parking lot, and then I wasn't sure where to order. Ordering is done at the kiosk or via a QR code. So expect a wait for the kiosk. I use kiosks and apps often, but this particular system was not smooth. I found the kiosk not as easy to use as it should have been; after I selected what I wanted, there was no way to get to the next screen to check out. I went with the build-your-own and was also disappointed that tomatoes weren't an option to add to the burger, but maybe they were out. They are a cashless business. When your order is ready, it is placed on a front cart, while drinks and sauces are self-serve. If I return, I will likely stick to the drive-thru, as that seems to be a much smoother ordering experience. Having a real person take your order and hand you everything you need at the window beats fighting with the kiosk inside.
