Completely rude and unprofessional. Duane rekeyed the lock on our basement door. However, despite the key turning in the lock, the door will not open. Prior to the rekeying there were no issues with the door opening. My husband called him to ask him to come by and look at it and he agreed. Minutes after he got off the phone with my husband, he called me - a woman. He very testily insisted that this issue had nothing to do with his work and would require an extra charge. When I inquired as to whether he could first look at the situation before we addressed the cost he told me to call someone else and hung up. Why did this man decide to call a woman to harangue when he had just gotten off the phone with a man who had raised the issue with him? I asked a logical question and his response was demeaning and mansplaining to the extreme. Conclusions: he does not stand behind his work (he does not give receipts) and he is sexist. I had to have a friend's apartment rekeyed and locks replaced after he passed away. I'm not from the area and did not have a local recommendation so I searched on Yelp. After confirming with Duane on the phone, we set a time and he kept in touch, even offered to match separate locks with one singular key, which made life easier. On Friday night, February 8, 2013, in the height of the storm, my mother's home attendant called me up and said she and my mother were locked in my mother's bedroom and had tried for a half hour to wiggle the door open but was unable to do it. Not only that, she had bolted the front door down for the night, and that is a sliding bolt lock that only locks from the inside and does not have a key. I called all the building staff, and one by one discovered they had left early due to the storm. I called the live-in super, and he offered NO HELP to get in, except to call the Fire Department. Calling the Fire Department would have left us with a whole new set of problems, because they would have just hacked down the door, and then my mother would have had NO FRONT DOOR until another one could be ordered - which could be WEEKS! Before I called the Fire Department - I thought let me call a locksmith - Verrazano Locksmith - and see what Duane says about this dilemma. I called Duane, and after hearing so many "no, no, no, I can't help you" - he said "I'll get the truck and pick you up on the way - give me 10 minutes." !!! Not only did he get me there in the middle of a snow, wind, cold and ice, that my car would have never made it - but within 15 minutes - he FORCED the sliding lock off the door and THANK YOU JESUS the door opened and was able to retrieve my mother and her home attendant out of the bedroom! Although there was minimal damage to the door, Duane saved the entire door from certain ruin by having patience and applying more gentle force on the door than the Fire Department would have! I called Duane back to change the lock so we can lock the door from the inside without have to use a deadbolt - so we can keep my mother safe from getting out without an attendant - and he did a wonderful job!!! Again, he exercised a lot of patience as the door we have was difficult to work with and he just kept plugging away finding different ways to make it work. Well done Duane at Verrazano Locksmith !!! I have never written a Yelp review before and am not one to write a poor one. Considering I called this company based on the good reviews, I needed to explain why I am giving this company one star. I was locked out of my apartment at around 2am. I live in an upstairs apartment from my landlord, who is on vacation and who I am also pet sitting for. My friend gave me the number to a different locksmith company with a 24 hour emergency service. Someone came out and couldn't get the lock open without drilling. Since it is my landlords house and I couldn't ask her for permission, I could not give them the green light to drill. It is then that I looked up another company and found, Verrazano Locksmith. I saw that they were a local company, had many years of experience and had great reviews. Their most glowing reviews said that they had exceptional tools and friendly emergency service. I called and was devastated by the response I received. The man on the phone did not give me any time to explain my situation. He told me that my experience with the previous locksmith "didn't happen" because drilling is, "a last resort." As I was trying to explain further, he told me to never call back again and hung up. I tried calling back and he didn't pick up. Then my husband tried to call and he didn't pick up. My husband and I had to resort to waiting outside until neighbors got home to let us in through a mutual fire escape. read more

On Saturday at 6:30pm a few weeks ago the bottom lock of my apt door jammed and the top lock was coming out of the cylinder, I called Duane and he was there within 20 minutes. Duane, was so nice and accommodating before and while he was putting in our security gates and doors. But once the jobs were done and he was paid in full, he turned into a different person -- nasty and very unaccommodating. We called him to come and check on one of the locks he put in on one of the security doors as it keeps jamming. We were literally locked in our house yesterday because the lock jammed and we couldn't get the key out. We called Duane and he got very nasty telling us that there was nothing wrong with the lock and that we aren't locking and unlocking the door correctly and then he hung up on us. Excuse me, I didn't know there were certain ways of locking and unlocking doors. So my husband had to go out the back door and up the front steps to try to unlock it from the outside. Well, that worked and luckily we got the door open. My husband told Duane that he is putting us in a very scary situation by not fixing this lock. Since we have security gates on our windows, we would never escape a fire if this lock jams again while we are trying to get out. He showed no concern whatsoever. So not only is he nasty and unaccommodating, he is very uncaring. I have since found another locksmith who hopefully is more concerned for mankind than this guy is.
