We hired Kings Locksmith to replace one lock on our exterior door and add one additional lock on a different interior door. The exterior door lock we replaced on February 26 was no longer locking after less than 4 months so I called them first thing this morning for an emergency repair. Calls were clearly being routed to an answering service and I received one call back saying they would have someone call me within 5 minutes. This song and dance went on for two hours before I called another company for what was obviously an emergency. The long and short of it is they were non responsive to an emergency on an installation they did less than four months ago. We waited for about 45 minutes, as we totally understand that Sunday has a lot of traffic. When he arrived, he was very nice. He literally opened the door in 5 seconds with a credit card. When we asked him the price he said it was $170. I understand that he had to come out here, and the base to come out was $45 dollars. This review is for their locksmith services. I got locked out of my place yesterday and well, had to call a locksmith. These guys (from the looks of it) had great reviews. The phone call I placed was answered very professionally. The guy who said he'd call the technician to call me back did his job. Then the technician called, his name Eden, like the garden of Eden. (great name!) He, too, was very professional over the phone. Said they've been a family run business for 30+ years and mentioned they provided a free quote, and overall sounded like they'd be no pressure. This sounds like the beginning of a great date, right? Sadly, upon showing up he inspected my door for maybe a little under 15 seconds. Quoted me almost $200 which sadly, I couldn't afford right then and there. He said, if you pay cash we can work out a deal ($120). WHOA! OK? Since it turned out I had a friend who said she might have an additional spare key after all, I mentioned to him if it had to be my last resort, I'd call him back. He then says, "I'm not going to come back! I'm not going to come back!" so I replied, "That's fine!' Then, he angrily mutters under his breath as he walks away -- "You should have told me earlier!" I thought that's what the quote was for: to decide if I want/ can afford the service? Doors and locks vary right? He wanted to drill into my door, sell me a new lock, install a new lock and all that was something I wasn't prepared to do - yet. Like Viola L before me (check out the "not recommended reviews because her review is "hidden" for some shady reason), I was stunned with their attitude and ultimately also had quite the unsavory experience. At the end of the day, a family business doesn't always mean they'll be understanding or nice. And I get that they don't want to come out and not have a job to do, but then maybe they should charge for an estimate instead of harassing you in person to let them do it. If you're desperate, call them and be ready to pay a lower fee in cash. I wasn't that desperate. Maybe next time I need a locksmith, I'll be desperate enough to call a shady provider like this one. #nothanks read more
