My landlord suggested I reach out to Arthur at Sullivan Locksmith, and I'm so glad I did. He responded quickly and came over as soon as possible to resolve the issue. Very disappointing experience with both the pricing and communication…read more I scheduled an appointment for 4:00 PM, but the company failed to communicate that time to the locksmith. I arrived at 4:00 PM as agreed, only to be told by the technician that he thought the appointment was at 5:30 PM. He ultimately showed up at 5:00 PM, leaving me waiting an hour due to poor communication. The pricing was even more frustrating. I was initially quoted $409, including a $125 service fee, to replace a lock on my apartment door. In reality, the technician only needed to replace a small brass lock cylinder, not the entire locking mechanism. The entire job took approximately five minutes. After pushing back on the price, I negotiated it down to $300. That's $300 for five minutes of work and a basic lock cylinder replacement, after initially being quoted $409. While the technician completed the job, the combination of poor communication, an hour-long delay, and what I consider extremely excessive pricing made this a very frustrating experience. I would strongly recommend getting quotes from other locksmiths before using this company.

This is a fake business, they're all operating without a license, including the manager. The…read morebusiness has a license, but in NYC you need individual licenses for locksmiths. If you need to get into your apartment, don't expect a non-invasive way of getting in, like lock picking, key cutting, or lock bumping, they go straight to drilling through the lock, which any joe schmo can do. Expect a charge that's $500+ even if they quote you less than $100. They've even been written up in the NYTimes: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/31/business/fake-online-locksmiths-may-be-out-to-pick-your-pocket-too.html

After calling around and reaching some pretty shady locksmiths who would give a low initial quote, then having their service guys give a ridiculously higher quote, I decided to go with Advantage. When I called Eddie back to set up the appointment for the next morning, he was kind and courteous. They give an up front flat rate fee, which might sound high at first, but don't be fooled - all of these locksmiths make up prices but don't stick to them and once they are done with your lock, the price changes and it's always higher than was quoted. Well, not with Advantage, they charged me exactly what they told me they would and nothing more. Had I gone with the other companies in the neighborhood, I would have been out at least $150, but in this case I skipped by under $100. When the locksmith, Sam, came the next morning, it took him only 10 minutes to pick what he said was a rather difficult lock. I was pretty impressed, and am too afraid to ask what he did in his former...er..career. Anyways he was also nice and efficient. No shadiness at all.
