It started well, but it ended bad. First, know that your deposit is non- refundable even if they are the reason the job failed. I was willing to pay $1100 for 11 locks. Grossly overpriced but my time was limited and you have to pay for convenience, but I don't pay for unprofessionalism. They were very responsive, I thought he was very thorough and detailed about how many locks, color, # of deadbolts, and # door knobs. I enthusiastically provided all the info needed because I wanted this to go as smooth as possible. It was going to be late at night and I didn't have much time before leaving the state. I really needed these locks changed, I was willing to wait until 9pm. I asked for a call 30 minutes out, I got the call but then I get another call less than 10 minutes later and the locksmith tells me he doesn't have all the keys or licks. Why wasn't I told this on the initial call 30 minutes out? I have my suspicions why... Rescheduling was a non- issue because of my tenant schedules, the time to have duplicate keys made before leaving town. He asked if I wanted my deposit back and of course I said yes, and I assured him I'll reschedule when I'm back in town. Then I received another dreaded call that my $50 deposit was non-refundable. Right then, I got a bad taste with doing business in NJ/NY, they always seem to have some games. The price was reduced to $900, but I had had enough. This locksmith is a real deal, worth more than 5 stars! We had at least 6 other locksmiths tried to fix our broken mortise lock, however, none of them able to fix the problem- some temporary fix the issue (cost $150 to just show up) and some told us there're missing parts but never respond back again. Few told us to get a brand new and quote us $700-$900. We also tried home advisor but their pricing is just confusing so we looked up this locksmith through Yelp. We called Mike from My Key 24 at midnight and he respond quickly with fair quote- pay nothing if they can't fix but they were confident it will work with some part replacement. He carefully took the lock apart and identified the issue quickly (no other locksmith we hired did that) , he was also able to fix the loose handle and had the missing part ready. Mike even vacuumed up shavings from drilling into the metal door. And clued me into first using the lock like setting up my pin after installing the Schlage software. Locking and unlocking with the phone. After calling Schlage I got it on my network. If your router supports 5g and 2,4G you have to turn off 5G otherwise the lock gets confused :) but then you can enable it back. I was very happy with the service. We googled, we yelped, we had no faith in anyone. Are the reviews real? Are the companies real? Will they call you back? Even had a lock on hand to replace the one he broke (as part of getting us in). But (and I know I'm burying the lede here) not only did he do all that, he went through our neighbor's apartment building, talked to our neighbor (whom we never met), went to our neighbor's back patio (through the guy's apartment) and climbed an 8 foot wall and jumped down to get into our little back patio to get to us (long story). He didn't bat an eye at the athletic feat and was just super cool and workmanlike to get the job done. Also, like you, I thought I was about to get gauged because really you have now power in these positions but he price seemed reasonable to me not having any idea what the market is.
