The girls who work here kind of suck. The boys are WAY better at making sales and explaining things. We've been here two times and had two different girls. The first one was super rude and wasn't able to explain the data plans in a way that was understandable without getting by our questions. The second girl was very stand off-ish. Verizon as a whole ties with Comcast for worst business I've ever dealt with in ANY CATEGORY. Firm has spent more than anyother entity lobbying to kill net neutrality. The staff at this location have generally been good, especially considering my loathing of the corporation employing them. Last year when my girlfriend upgraded to iphone 5, the sales girl pushed the requisite extremely overpriced accessories, which was fine until she stated that "you need a screen protector because scratching the screen voids the warranty". When I asked if she meant scratches are not covered by warranty, she said no and explicitly stated the phones warranty would be voided if the screen was scratched. This is a complete and total lie and what's more, its not legal. My civility immediately ended and I cut her next pitch off and told her to find the transaction. If you are ever told something like this, call the consumer protection bureau immediately. On a positive note, my most recent experience at this location was surprisingly good. Complicated transaction merging two accounts swapping upgrades etc was easy and painless. Sales guy named Garfield nervously asked if he could help an obviously irritated customer, got it all sorted out and we were on our way in no time. Garfield deserves 5 stars and a raise. read more

My husband and I went there in December 2012 to merge my phone, his phone, my mom's phone, and our iPad under one plan. They made two huge errors. When they merged my mom's phone, they changed her number but never told her. My uncle passed away and no one could reach her because her cell had a new number, unbeknownst to her. We had to fix that. We just found out that they screwed up merging our plans and we were being overcharged $50 every month. Don't go to this store. Ever. read more

My partner and I were served by a very charismatic and sweet-seeming salesman in El Cerrito who similarly convinced us to change our plan and get "free" ipads and have a reduced bill to boot. All false. When the bill came there were many charges that were not what we'd been promised. And just like you, we were told it would cost $170 per phone to un-do the deal. We had to come in twice to dispute the charges. Fortunately the guy we dealt with was not such a liar as Yoni and did all he could to get charges removed. But we are still paying more than before they sold us that bag of goods. I believe (and after reading your review, I STRONGLY believe) that Verizon intentionly trains people to lie and offer "free" things that they are subsequently charged for. (How about the "free phone" with each new 2 year contract, which always costs at least $50 out the door?) Verizon is the most unscrupulous business I have ever dealt with in terms of cheating customers. There should be a class-action suit. If it were not for the fact that the account belongs to my partner (and I get a good deal from her) I would have left Verizon long ago. read more

Possible fraud here! I usually don't make these reviews, but something really weird happened here. I had an appointment here on Friday 9/25/20 at 3pm (I use a pseudonym on yelp) to look at my pixel 4 because the battery and speakers are trashed. The man who helped me took my phone to the back and came back to tell me I needed a replacement (happens with pixels all the time) and that it would be delivered to my house by 8pm the next day. The man had me enter my address and personal info on his ipad and sent me on my way. Phone never came, and I wasn't given a tracking number. I called today, and store reps are not taking calls. After 2 hours using the bs app then waiting on hold for support, I was told that no notes were ever made for my appointment and that no order for a replacement was ever made. Furthermore, I was told that store reps are no longer allowed to order phones for customers; only IT can after troubleshooting. My question is why did I enter my personal info for a phone he was never allowed to send out and that never came?? What did he do with my info and my phone in the back? I would love to hear from management about this and will also try to find a way to file an official complaint. There's so much EDD fraud and everything happening now, and I'm concerned your staff is stealing customers' information. read more

I am a Business Manager for a store that prides itself on their ability to provide exceptional service in order to ensure loyalty, promote business, and provide a positive experience to all customers. After walking out of Verizon El Cerrito Plaza with the same as what I walked in with, which was one old phone and another defective phone, I learned that I shouldn't expect the experience I provide to customers to be offered to me at any other store other than my own. I wanted two things to happen: 1) Upgrade my little brother's phone to a iPhone 4 and put it into his stocking because his iPod completely shattered (and because an iPhone 4 is free with any upgrade). 2) My little sister's iPhone 5, which was purchased 2 weeks ago, needed to be replaced for the second time because it has issues that were different from the first time the phone was replaced. Therefore, I needed to exchange the phone. THE RESULTS: 1) I was told that the store didn't have the iPhone 4 in stock and that I should upgrade to the 4s. 2) My sister's iPhone 5 wasn't replaced, nor fixed. Instead, I was advised to make an appointment at an Apple store in order for them to trouble shoot the issue or replace the phone because apparently their knowledge of the Apple product is "more advanced" according to the guy helping me. THE REALITY OF THE SITUATION: 1) Because I walked into the store shortly before closing and gave the impression that I wasn't going to be making any purchase, the manager simply didn't see my business as important. 2) As he was explaining to me that he was unable to provide an immediate solution to the iPhone 5 issue, I was convincing myself to cough up the $100 for my little brother's iPhone 4s, but because this guy provided no service, that store gets no business from me. 3) My family and I have had the same account for over 15 years, and on that account there are 5 different phone lines, 3 of which are eligible for upgrades. I planned to upgrade my brother to an iPhone 4s, myself to an iPhone 5, and my Mom to a new Android. None of those purchases will be made at the Verizon El Cerrito store. 4) Instead, being that I own several Apple products and they have consistently demonstrated exceptional customer service, I will redirect my business over to them and purchase the Android through a 3rd party carrier or convince my Mom to use Apple's products as well. 5) The person "helping" me was the Manager, which horrifies me because this is the individual who sets the level of expectation and leads by example to his staff? read more

OMG, I am even more pissed off at these people than I was a month ago. In the future, I will upgrade my phone at Best Buy, Costco, or ANYWHERE but this Verizon store. It all began last year, when I realized I could no longer conduct my business properly without a smartphone. I waited until late January, and visited my local Verizon store* a few days before a business trip to upgrade my phone - I had decided that I HAD to have a smart phone for that trip. **IMPORTANT NOTE** - I did this AGAINST the advice of a couple people who told me that their friends had recommended against the Verizon stores, saying the service anywhere else was better... but no, I had to try for myself... The salesman who "helped" me misinformed me about several key things during my visit, including, but not limited to: He claimed that he told me that all my saved voicemail messages would vanish once service was transferred to the new phone (he did not, and I asked him LOTS of questions prior to making my purchase, including, "Is there anything I should ask you about that I haven't?"; the guy was basically trying to rush me and make a sale as quickly as possible); Even more egregious: he told me the data package would cost $20/month (I was happy to hear that, since I had assumed that data would cost $25/month); a couple days later, I was cruising around My Verizon online, and discovered that I was being charged $30/month for data!! (I called Verizon to discuss the cost of the data package, and they apologized, but said there was nothing they could do. They said that there had been a special, but it had ended a week ago, and suggested I keep an eye out for future special rates on data packages. And for the record, I have received excellent service from the folks at Verizon with regard to my phone service.) Today, I went back to the store to ask about transferring a few photos that hadn't transferred from the old phone - photos that had been sent via text, and which I had not bothered to save to my phone before. The lame service guys gave me incorrect information about the micro-card in my phone and, after telling me to leave the phone for 30 minutes, said, "we can't transfer the photos to your new phone without erasing the 200 photos already on the new phone." They also told me there were 25 photos, but I had only 6 I wanted transferred! The guy in charge of helping me acted like he was the King Techie in the place, and he couldn't figure out where my photos were in my phone! In sum, I have had excellent experiences on several occasions at Best Buy, purchasing a cell phone and a digital camera, and next time I want to upgrad my phone, that's where I'm going... The guys at the El Cerrito Plaza Berizon store were so snooty, so lame, and so UNhelpful, I will not go there again, and will recommend against them to anyone who asks. read more

Okay first of all, I want to really express that the service at the store is outstanding. The people that work at the store are really nice especially Maria, Brett and Edward. They can't help the fact that they work for a corporation without a soul. I went there yesterday with my friend because he had an issue with his phone, the situation escalated to the point where it had to be handled by a person over the phone in a call center far away in a remote call center. A person who shall remain nameless, faceless (because she was), without a soul (because she surely was), and without manners (darn!!! her mother and father messed up.) Anyhow, after being passed around like a hot dish in busy kitchen by a bunch of inexperienced cooks, I was dropped on the ground with that line (I am sorry you feel this way!!!) This is not the first time that I ran into a situation like this one. Two months ago, one of my other coworkers had an issue with them. She pays her bills right on time, never had any issues but one month one of her kids went and made too many calls. She called and there was no love. Forget the fact that both these people are working in an inner-city school and underpaid employees, that they always pay their bills and that comparatively to people who make high figure income they actually pay more in phone cost than someone else. Yes, verizon and phone companies rewards the wealthy (nothing usual here because that is the way most organization works) and also does not give a damn about faithfulness. One could pay three years straight without a problem but the robots that answer the phone are scripted to escalate the call to the devil who does not give a flying rat's ass about the paying sucker. Well this is what I think of Verizon: Verizon, your map of call coverage looks like a disease taking over the USA. Your costs are not commensurate with the numbers of users! By now not only VERIZON but all CELL PHONE COMPANY including ATT, SPRINT, TMOBILE should be lowering their cost to pass on the saving to the customers but no, you are greedy and you don't care. They obviously were only interested in selling 'family plans' and not interested in single persons looking for a plan. Very unfriendly. A week ago, my pixel 2 phone had a problem when using the headphone. When the earbud was connected to the phone, either the power was automatically turned off or there was no sound from the headphone. So, on 11/27, I went to the Verizon store for advice. An agent told me that it might be a hardware issue and asked me to call Asurion, the insurance company, to see what they can do. I called and the Asurion rep believed that the phone should be damaged and recommended a replacement. I later received a replacement, refurbished, phone in a very short time (awesome service). However, the headphone problem still existed on the new phone. On 11/29, I decided to go back to the store for more advice. Vanessa, the agent available during that time, warmly welcomed me. After patiently listening to my problem, she pointed out that the potential problem might be from my connectors instead of the phone. I told her I don't believe it since these two connectors were very new and one was made by Google. To prove her point, Vanessa used a borrowed earbud on my phone and, to my surprise, the problem was solved. I was a little bit embarrassed in the beginning, but shortly after, felt very happy for knowing that the phone is good. Vanessa subsequently helped me clean up (erase) all apps etc on the replacement phone since I decided to keep the original phone. She was very patient and friendly. No one that I had consulted with over the past three days found the problem except Vanessa. She was not only so professional, but also very eager to help the customers solve the problems. I really appreciate Vanessa's service and want to give her a five stars and a big thumb up ( Excellent). With this good experience, I will visit this store more and will let my friends know. Boo. I went in today hoping to do an early upgrade on my phone. My contract is up on 6/26 so I was only two weeks early -- in my opinion that is pretty close. The front line person had me speak with a manager. Rob was his name I think. He was distracted, curt and clearly not interested in speaking with me. Yes I was early and I don't mind being told so but I do mind the bored, irritated manner in which he spoke to me. Eventually I asked him if we got off to the wrong foot because he seemed upset. To which he became very interested in his tablet, mumbled a few words and I walked out really disappointed by our interaction. It makes me feel like switching to another carrier. And for the record, I have had great experiences with others in the store. The old manager, Tom, was fabulous. read more

I hate the fact that my first review from a self-imposed Yelp hiatus is going to be a bad one. But it is what it is. Let me paint the picture for you: My blackberry (I know, I know... but I say this speaks something of my loyalty to VZ) had been having problems for about two weeks. Network sporadically shutting on and off with no warning - me, missing important calls from work and getting emails hours too late. I did nothing, NOTHING to this phone. In fact, I'd say me and BB had some amazing times together - I always left him on top of the restaurant table against all social mores, so that I could keep a loving eye him. I stayed up all night with him furiously wikipediaing in bed until I fell asleep with him cradled in my arms. And besides the occasional leaving him on top of a toilet paper dispenser in a public restroom, I'd like to think I treated him pretty well. So while others would have given up and gotten Droid, I stuck by my blackberry's side, in hopes that Verizon El Cerrito would help me bring him back. The first day I went in, Elmery gave me fantastic service. After running a full diagnostic, she agreed that there was nothing visibly wrong with it, so it wasn't fixable. Bad news for BB but lucky for me, she said she would replace and waive the $50 fee given the special nature of my problem. Granted, I was out of warranty so I thought it was of incredibly good customer service for her to work something out, without me having to solicit it. Unfortunately, my model was not in stock, so she had to order it, and said it would be in the store in a couple of days. Elmery wasn't working the day I got back into town. I had already gone another weekend, where BB stopped delivering any sort of connection for 2 days straight. I called VZ and found out Elmery was not going to be in for another 2 days BUT the nice lady helping me said the phone she had ordered had already come in, so I could come by and pick it up anytime. Here's where it starts going downhill. Look for the big, douche-y-looking blond guy with a very small amount of hair on his head. I think his name might have been John(?). Can't guarantee the one who helped me is the only big, douche-y blond guy, but given the rest of the store consists of pleasant-mannered Asian boys, let's just assume he is. I don't know his name for sure because he wasn't wearing a name tag (red flag?). Upon telling him my story, he goes in the back to find my phone, comes out, messes around on the computer a bit, then says to me "I'm sorry but there aren't any notes here. If you want the phone, I'm going to have to charge you $50 for it. If you want the fee waived, you've gotta wait for Elmery" OK - this guy is just trying to do his job, I understand. Since I was told from a previous store, that it's really just up to each rep's discretion, I ask him if there's anything he can do for me, given I did not think I could go another 2 working days without the use of my phone. His answer was that he couldn't. That's fine, he clearly was not in a position to do it so I ask to speak with his manager. There's one standing right next to him, but he goes in the back and calls someone else in with him. My boyfriend, at this point, is getting pissed that they're wasting our time. He pulls the nearest manager over, (Asian) John and tells him the situation. Now, Asian John seems like a nice enough guy- he just wants to find out what's going on. Douchey John comes out with a different manager who tells me, they can't give me the phone because they don't have it in stock. Really? I just called in and it was here a couple hours ago, so it's now gone? And even if they weren't baldfaced lying to me, did they just give it away? Why didn't douchey John say something about not having the phone the first time he went back to check? What the hell was he going to give me for $50? I suspect they lied to be perfectly honest, because Asian John (the manager) says "actually, I do think we have one - I think I saw it back there but let me check again." He is barred and pretty much manhandled at the door by the other two, who adamantly insist that it's not there. He goes in anyway, with the other two scampering behind him. I can't imagine what kind of conspiratol conversation happened behind those doors, but when he came out (looking dejected) he let me know that there was no phone for me. I've spent almost a decade with the company, paid thousands in overage charges, endured countless iPhone rebuffs, and this is how you repay me? By treating me like I was trying to scam you guys? I can't even explain how I felt - I was in tears. VZ you have screwed me for the last time (with a very big assist from your El Cerrito store). I promptly went across El Cerrito Plaza to the nearest AT&T store and signed up with them. Just want to clarify that I appreciate Elmery and Asian John's attempt to help me - thus the extra star. But it wasn't enough to keep my business. read more

My wife and I have spent a good $1000 at this place over the last few years. So the horrible, unfriendly, smileless customer service I received today when trying to return an UNOPENED Droid Incredible Battery a few days after the 14-day return limit was downright wrong. Look guys, the Droid Incredible battery that came with my phone SUCKS -- it makes an otherwise great phone borderline useless for many users. I only purchased this extra 1300 ah battery because the Verizon salespeople gave me what turned out to be wrong information on the availability and pricing of alternative batteries (there is, in fact, a 1500ah HTC battery for the Evo that fits and helps - and I can get it for cheaper elsewhere), and the price of a separate charger (they said it was much cheaper than I've been able to find it anywhere). Yet they just give me the standard, impersonal, robotic "policy and procedure" line that there's nothing they can do 21 days after I received the battery -- just 7 days after the deadline. I manage a company's FaceBook and Twitter accounts where I handle customer service issues. The customer "service" I got from these guys today was embarrassingly bad. One was an effeminate skinny guy who seemed downright miserable to be working there. The other -- his supervisor who I asked to speak with once it became clear this guy was useless -- came over without offering a smile or the least bit of effort to figure out a solution. If this guy expended the effort to solve my issue that he applies to his hair gel, we'd have been fine (he was wearing quite the slathering of sticky hair chemicals). Bottom line: choose a different Verizon store -- these nimrods don't deserve your business. read more

It's a good thing that I really like my Verizon plan. If this was my first experience, I would have switched to AT&T. I signed in just like directed. After waiting for almost 30 minutes, I finally was waited on. My problem was that my phone (that I just bought) was not holding a charge. I called Verizon tech service, they said I could take it to ANY Verizon store. Not so... I have to take it back to the store where I bought it. Diego (the salesperson) told me that it was not a Verizon phone. I even showed him that box that clearly had Verizon printed on it. Then he went on to tell me that it was phone only sold at particular stores. Oh come on! tried to tell me a bunch of technical garbage as to why the phone would die so quickly. After getting totally irritated at his lack of knowledge and basically giving me a BS story, I stormed out and will never return. I have also told several of my Verizon friends and family to NEVER go to the El Cerrito store. I don't want to sound like sour grapes, but this was really frustrating. I bought the phone out of the area when my current phone died. I was thrilled that we found a local Verizon store. Had I known that if I were to have problems, I would have to go all the way back to that store, I would have waited to get a phone closer to home. If you go to Verizon in El Cerrito, you had better take a bucket of patience with you, because you will definitely need it! read more

Maria at Verizon, was wonderful. My phone was broken and she assisted me with a new upgrade. I was having a very difficult day with family issues regarding a loved one who is very ill with cancer. I had his voicemail on my phone and really wanted to get those messages. She found a way to get in there and help me record them. I didn't expect kindness from anyone there, but I sure got it from just about everyone who works there. Don't know all their names, but the staff/associates at this location are not only efficient, but stellar human beings. read more

I have been a Verizon customer for about 10 years and have had good customer service experiences. There have been the occasional "salesmen" that wanted to make a buck off of me but I've been very happy with most. So when my Mom said her 7 year old AT&T phone wouldn't power on anymore and she had bad reception at home anyway I recommended to her that she try VZW since I get good reception at her house. I called customer service to ask to add her to my plan thinking it would be just a few bucks more. They informed me that it just saves her about $10/month from having her own plan so I wasn't too excited that she was going to pay for 400+ minutes a month she wasn't going to use. She had done research at Best Buy and they quoted her the same for a pre-paid plan. My Mom never uses the phone. She's one of those "emergency" users so she doesn't need much, just good reception. When we walked into the store we were immediately greeted and placed on the wait list. A few minutes later Tom Weeks introduced himself and immediately recommended a great low cost pre-paid plan for light users. He took his time answering all of my Mom's questions and never tried to up-sell her to something she didn't need. He gave her the option of going to a higher-end phone or plan but told her that he didn't think she needed it. He demonstrated to her how to use the phone he recommended and even taught her how to use text messaging since she had seen her friends and kids text and thought she'd like to start. He never rushed her in order to get to the next customer even though she wasn't going to be a big bucks 4g lte sale. Tom happens to be a neighbor of my Mom's and took the time to shoot the breeze and get to know her. He took the extra steps to make sure she would be comfortable with her new phone and wrote down some instructions for her since she isn't internet savvy and would have a hard time getting the information herself. She and I both trust him and thank him for his great patience and service to someone who doesn't know a lot about technology! read more

ok I went to this Verizon wireless El cerrito and I told the guy that my razor has this screen damage on the side. And he said that nothing all new phone does that. I'm thinking to myself do I look stupid to you that all new phone has mild damage and should be ignored. So as a nice guy I let him talk and he said he would exchange my phone with a refurbished phone. And I'm like what the fuck my new phone to a crappy phone who the fuck do you think you are. So I said fuck it I told him I will let him know and decided to leave. As you can see even managers has no customer service what so ever and he didn't even ask me if I want to exchange with a new one but a crappy one. I will leave it a that if I want better service I would go straight to the Verizon headquarters and have them deal with this if not since my phone is insured I can just get a new one. read more

TOM at the El Cerrito store is friendly, helpful and went out of his ay to make sure I understood what I was getting. Even after I had left the store and came back in and he was with another customer, he helped me when he could while the other customer kept busy with paper work. I had AT&T and they were the worst. My new 3g Iphone works EVERYWHERE my 3g iphone by AT&T did not. I will be returning to this store. read more

They have changed the way they process customers in the store. You are basically ignored when you come into the store. The staff are very poorly trained and don't seem to be interested in serving you. I have come in here twice and both times there is at least an hour wait to have a billing question answered. They are trying to emulate an Apple store and if they could go back to the old way of doing business which is to greet you when you walk in the store and help you, they process more business. read more

Everyone from the store manager to security was so nice! I have been to several stores in the San Jose area but I had an emergency and went into this store and was immediately impressed. The store manager who greeted me, Sherman never made me feel dumb for not knowing certain things and for wanting to save money. He asked Carlos to help me who was most patient and went into detail, even repeating himself when asked. During my time there, Scott was helping an elderly couple. Teaching them how to send emails and use their tablet. Never once looking annoyed or frustrated. If I ever need to make a trip to a Verizon store I will hold my questions for.the next time I'm in town just to visit these folks. Thank you!! read more

I have been going to this Verizon store for years because its close to where I grocery shop. Yesterday I was completely out of town traveling to my Uncles funeral and I dropped my Droid in a gas station toilet....Could the day get any worse??? I stopped at a Verizon franchise in the town I was in and the gentleman informed me that I did not have insurance and would have to cough up $550 for a new phone. OUCH. Can you say bad day getting even worse? I decided to wait to see if the folks at the place I regularly go to (El Cerrito) had any other options. Thank god I waited! To be clear, this is a 5 star review for a mobile phone provider, but in 15 years of going into these retail stores (AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile) it was the best one yet. After having spent over 3 hours trying to obtain some type of credible and helpful assistance from Yahoo yesterday I came into the Verizon store with my Smartphone not getting any e-mails. If I could give a zero stars I would. This message probably won't even transcribe right because my iPhone 8s that I was strong armed into buying six months ago it hasn't worked properly sense. Don't call them if you need customer service they don't help they just want to get you and sign you up lied to you and charge you an arm and a leg for service that doesn't work. Don't do it it's not the Verizon that used to be I guess I could go to Metro and get better service than this damn what happened to Verizon that used to be the best. The guy that answered the phone couldn't even tell me that he would be willing to look at my phone or help me he was interrogating me And making me repeat myself 16 different ways. Wow really Verizon and you charge what you charge per month for a single line? Unbelievable. Don't go here you've been warned!! They make you jump through ridiculous hoops take your phone all over town to the Apple Store to Best Buy anywhere they can think of but they take zero accountability but you better pay your bill on time. Sure Verizon. Sounds like a great deal to me. What a bargain pay hundred dollars for a phone that doesn't even work and $130 a month for a single line to be terrorized by a bunch of rude And hostel employees really? If you don't wish/ or need a computer in your pocket, then this isn't the best outlet for you. This is a difficult review, as there is the Verizon Corporate (4 star, while ALL other purveyors are 3 except for AT&T: 1 star); and this outlet in particular, -which used to be GREAT, except now, with a manager who only deals with customers that have the word "COMMISSION" stamped on their forehead (Alex: a 1 star); and their best employee: Monica, who gets a whopping 5-star. The stores' inventory slowly changed also over the past year, to reflect Alex's goals (read: high-end/ high commish) and makes almost zero attempt to stock lower-end Verizon phones; it is ironic that the radio-shack just a block a way now offers a much more candid-appraisal of your needs and a down-to-earth spectrum of Verizon phones. If I cannot reach Monica, I know I'll be ensconced by either ignorance, or of a cold push towards a new phone (& commish). read more

I went in Verizon to ask for assistance with uploading my contacts & transfering sms messaging to my replacement phone and received the most incredible experience at Verizon. I've been a customer for 10+ years and thought it couldn't get better. To my amazement Sabrina took customer service & tech support to whole level above the rest and continue to increase it with the assistance of Garfield. 2 Upgrades and 2 New lines of services plus 12 accessories. I'd say that was a healthy transaction for a sales rep. 5 stars for Sean and Cameron that have really great customer service skills and friendly personalities and we really enjoyed working with them. However, I had to deal with Wilnesha that was not very competent and has zero personality. She was trying to rush us out the door and not genuine at all. She left me with a bad impression of the store in why they would hire her, but if I have to go back I will not be dealing with her. If you hire well, you get great employees, great moral, great customer feedback, great sales. If you hire out of desperation, you get Wilnesha. I will rate her at 0 stars. Long wait times in the store doesn't help the customer experience. read more
