Once again I have had a stellar experience at this AAA location. Our Mazda had a recall earlier this year for a fuel pump defect and I had the work done. When it came time to renew the license I copied the receipt from Marin Mazda, which detailed the work that had been done and sent it, along w/ a check, a few weeks ago. Yesterday I received a notice from DMV that I needed to provide proof that the recall work had been done. Puzzled, since I couldn't imagine what further proof they would need, I went to AAA, where a very nice man at the door looked through my paperwork and said I needed a certificate from the dealer. I went home and called Marin Mazda, where I spoke w/ Mike, who said I should have been given a certificate, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't. I wondered whether it would be sufficient for them to email me the certificate so I called AAA, where I spoke w/ (I think) the same helpful man, who told me DMV wouldn't accept that, so I drove over to Marin and got a certificate. Not a state issued one, but a slip of paper they filled out w/ the car's VIN, etc. I went back to AAA from Marin and was greeted again by the same nice man. He logged me in and invited me to sit in their waiting area until I was called to the window by Ginger, who was careful, thorough and wonderful. She processed the transaction, cautioned me to save the certificate in case there's a problem and gave me the new registration and tag. It was, again, an excellent experience. I'm so glad to have AAA as an alternative to spending time at the DMV. read more

This is also a partial review of the San Rafael AAA also. the point is these people are lovely to deal with. They are very helpful and when I go into the offices ,I am greeted by a nice human being. I was at the San Rafael AAA monday, and was greeted like I was a human, and although I needed another signature, I didn't feel bewildered or abused. Today I went to Berkeley with the proper signature -from previous owner, and went to the Berkeley office. Again greeted by a nice polite individual, and had Marvin help Me. He was fantastic , and explained everything I needed to do. I left with my new registration and a happy face. this is the complete opposite of the DMV. Where one is treated as the enemy and the attitude is one of ' who the fuck are you?'. Anyway, thanks Marvin . read more

The person I spoke with was useless in helping. I had encountered trouble with getting a document due to not having my DL (because I was ROBBED 4 days ago) but have my physical passport and DMV issued temporary license. I asked to speak with the supervisor for further support, she said she IS the supervisor and when asked how might someone in my situation move forward with this, she mentioned "Nothing I can do, that's just life." This is one of the perks of having AAA--I can go here instead of the Oakland DMV--which can take hours and hours. The purpose of my trip yesterday was to get an International Driver's Permit. The whole thing took less than a half hour including waiting in line (no one was before me), and taking my pic for the permit. This was my first time at this office in Berkeley. So, I have options because there are 25 offices in the Bay Area. That's what I call convenience!!! read more

Had a GREAT experience at this AAA Berkeley branch just before our 3 day wkd. They were open until 6 pm which was a help. We were trying to orchestrate the purchase of a vehicle from a private seller. The people at AAA were really friendly and knowledgeable. We were a bit anxious - both seller and buyer were new to conducting a private sale/purchase. AAA made it so easy for us. Answered all of our questions. Got all the paperwork signed off and they filed the sale with the DMV. Really liked the people there too! I will go there again for my next private car sale transaction!!! read more

Everyone here was super friendly and helpful. They seem to have a streamlined process for how to service each member that comes in. I've come here a few times to use DMV services and also get an international driver's license and I was in and out in 20 minutes. They have a small parking lot that I've not seen filled ever, so this seems to be an easily accessible branch :) read more

Let me make straight. AAA is great. My local agent Christina Liang at this branch ruined their fame. (1) She changed my quoted policy terms without my consent. (2) The quote DOES NOT include your mileage and she never asked. The bait price is to lure you in and my actual premium ended up to be ~$500 more expensive. (Even if she explained this is the reason, she never gave me a cost breakdown; I highly doubt this is just her excuse because she did not know my mileage even at the time of setting up my policies) (3) She was so rude not answering my phone, or used the same excuse of her being too busy, hanging up my phone after a few seconds of impatient conversation. (4) She promised a $100 gift card at signup. Forget about it. Every time she promised to check the reward progress, but never did. Avoid this agent if you can. I made an appt to renew my car registration but arrived about an hour early. No problem! I was immediately checked in by a friendly staff member who suggested the wait would be just a few min. In less than 5 minutes I was called over to Ginger's desk to complete the process. She was knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. We shared a few laughed while she entered all my info into the system. While I was there, I decided to renew my membership which was going to happen anyway later this month. Great service at AAA! We went in and someone greeted us and asked what we needed and we were helped quickly. Truly excellent service, the staff made the whole experience quick and easy. It was our sons first passport photo and the set up was very professional, and the quality of the photos were excellent. I had gotten my passport photos done elsewhere a month ago before I knew AAA did passsport photos, and the photos came out terribly and were much more expensive, I wish I had gotten it done at AAA! I've been a member of AAA in the past, but it was the fact that you can avoid the DMV when it comes to registration issues that pushed me to join AAA instead of any other autmobile service. I've been a member for the last two years and feel that the benefits outweigh the cost. I've been able to use them for discounts, towing and the office always easy to get in and out of. Friendly, helpful staff; clean and neat facility; super easy and convenient to make on-line appointments (many times and dates to choose from); text follow-up confirmation of appt and reminders; convenient and central location with a parking lot; efficient and helpful staff. Okay, my reason for going in and getting an agent finally was that I got a notice of non renewal of my homeowners. I made an appointment to go in in person and got one for that same day. I blew it and missed it and made another appointment, again, same day! My new agent was so reassuring and clearly could do this in her sleep. She talked me through it, made sure I understood, her hands flying on the computer and after an hour I walked out astonished that I was going to have coverage again at only a slightly higher cost that what I had been paying for homeowners for all these years. Lai Saephanh was on the ball and a pleasure to work with. I had spent 6 awful weeks watching webinars and contacting lots of dead ends, many unreturned calls, tried to sign up for USAA and heard from mostly out of state brokers who were very earnest but out of state, learning the lingo of insurance like "admitted". Lai was a breath of fresh air and I am so grateful. I got to sign things today and a huge burden is lifted. I know others are annoyed at being cancelled but I think there is a gap between whomever sent the letter and your local agent who works to keep you. And I'm trying to see this as temporary because the State of California cannot have this many angry homeowners. So loyalty worked for me. read more

Review of passport photo service, no longer free for members: cost is $9+tax. The person who took the photo policed my facial expression to a picky extreme, and took shots of me I wasn't allowed to see before printing. I should have walked out without the photos because the experience was so unpleasant I question my 30 year AAA membership. Alas, I did pay in a daze of wtf just happened here, then cut up and chucked the pics afterwards. 3 stars are for the nice person who checked me in. Try ups store for passport photos instead, they're nicer! read more

Loved AAA, up until I visited this location. I have visited this location at least twice annually and it is perpetually understaffed- with long wait times even at odd hours (such as a Wednesday afternoon at 2pm when I visited). My visit today left me very uncomfortable and I am now strongly considering changing my auto insurance provider. I will preface by saying that I do believe the employees were trying their best to provide good customer service, unfortunately the ethics used are out of alignment with my personal values. I am fortunate to qualify for a "low-mileage" rate that requires my odometer to be reviewed by a AAA agent annually. Typically, the order of operations is as follows: my annual rate is sent to me by mail, I bring it into the AAA office, an agent reviews my odometer, I pay my bill and am good for another year. This time went like this: I bring my annual rate into the AAA office, wait 10 minutes to be attended, agent reviews my odometer, estimate cost suddenly reflects a multi-hundred dollar increase on my now 14 year old car.... Agent and I are both confused, then the agent proceeds to tell me how I can save save money by removing my medical and comprehensive coverage. I tell him I am not comfortable doing that, but he proceeds to explain how it's a better option for me because it will reduce my overall rate. We go back and forth for awhile, before he moves on to another tactic. He goes into my account and changes my mileage so it appears as though my car has not been driven AT ALL within the past year. He tells me this way I will pay closer to my original estimate. I tell him I am not comfortable lying about my mileage, especially considering that it would negatively impact my following year's renewal. He again tries to mansplain as to why this is the best option. Eventually I get him to reset my mileage to its actual amount and the price jumps back to well above my annual estimate. After nearly 50 minutes spent in the office, I leave completely frustrated and without successfully renewing my insurance. read more

One reason why I went abnormally above the average rating was because of the exceptional customer service. GINGER, you are an amazing woman. She deserves recognition because she went above and beyond the call of duty. She was at the front much like where a hostess might be when you walk into a restaurant. I walked in and she greeted me with a warm smile and gave me some serious motherly vibes. It was like she was an old friend or hospitable aunt who invited me over for tea. She called me sweet pea for crying out loud. It was nice. I came in to see if I was covered under my bf's membership, so that I could get FREE passport photos. I kid you not, they are free for members. This is awesome considering I paid $14.99 for 2 passport photos at CVS before I left for Tokyo earlier this month. But thinking about it, how often do you need passport photos taken? So in a sense you really don't pay much over a lifetime. I digress. It turned out that I wasn't under my boyfriend's membership but I could be added for $33, which was a steal (it was prorated; for the whole year, it would be ~$50). They charged $20 for passport photos without a membership. So I knew I was getting a good deal. The main reason anyone would get a AAA membership is for their roadside assistance services. This included towing services which alone can cost you a lot. Plus, I heard they offer movie tickets and amusement park tickets at a discount. Take advantage of these other perks if you decide to become a member. Aside from the perks of being a member, if Ginger is around, you will also most likely get great customer service. Had to change financial account, phone numbers, and then update friends, online accounts, and insurance companies. I looked into identity protection and while standing in line for DMV services at AAA, I found a brochure. I could get free coverage with my membership. Tried to schedule a AAA appointment for a car seat inspection. 1. From website, directed to schedule the appointment online. After entering all needed information, could not find a appointment available going months into the future ... 2. Tried next to phone the AAA Berkeley office, using the number listed on the Web site. After navigating through the automated directory followed by a long wait, got some one to answer the phone. However the person was from a centralized answering service that told me to call the Berkeley Office. When I told her that I thought I called Berkeley AAA but still got transferred to her, she told me ignore and bypass all the numeral options on the answering system, and just dial 0. 3. When I finally talked to real person at the Berkeley office, she told me that the Berkeley AAA does not do car seat inspection. ... half an hour wasted. read more

I walked in there for an international driving permit with a temporary license and a passport. Leaving for New Zealand the next day I ended up with a couple laughs with dome nice ladies and walked out 20 minutes later with the permit. Can't ask for anything more. read more

Can't believe I'm writing a review for a AAA....... Covid has made every business navigate, pivot and adjust. My experience this week was one of surprise if I'm telling the truth..... a knowledgeable person out front keeping the line properly distanced and organized asking peoples needs and giving guidance to streamline the experience. She brought me the proper DMV form to fill out while I'm in line. Christian comes out and greets me and escorts me to his counter. Christian could not have been any more pleasant, knowledgable and helpful. As a many year business owner I can recognize a great employee that not only represents the business, but him/herself in a professional and personal manor. 5 Stars for AAA and Christian for a "Top Notch" experience !!! read more
