The food was...okay. It seems like a chef opened this place and hasn't come back for their own food for several months. The mole was uninspired, the meat was bland, and the spice level was so light it made me want hot sauce. I mean at a Mexican restaurant all we want are bold spicy flavors. To save the day the guacamole was very good, the presentation was very pretty, and the prices are reasonable. finally, wow, what a LOUD restaurant. Recently dined at the Boulder location and sadly all missed the mark except for the tortilla chips & queso - they were amazing. We each ordered a margarita, mine coin and his spicy. He was sad his wasn't spicy and mine was bland compared to others I've had at nearby spots. We dove into the delicious queso and warm chips. Highlight of the visit. Staff was friendly tho stretched thin and doing double duty at the bar. Gotta feel for them. Family with kids also left a horrible mess with fries all under the tables next to us. Felt bad the wait staff had to clean that all up. My dish (enchilada, tamale, rice and beans) was bland I went up to the bar to ask for hot sauce (staff didn't check in with us who it our food tho did check on the table next to us which was curious). The tamale was also super disappointing as it was both gummy and lacking in flavor. The meat in my boyfriend's tacos was dry and lacking in flavor. Neither of us cared for the rice or beans. When the staff finally came round (to see if we wanted another round of drinks) I shared my findings about the tamale (there was def something wrong with it as it was nothing like the ones at their sister restaurant). They apologized and took a couple dollars off my meal which I appreciated tho left 90% of my plate uneaten. All in we still spent about $80 and left super disappointed. Decided to try a new place since our go-to Mexican restaurant is closed on Mondays, and our experience didn't fail or exceed any expectations. The service was good, very friendly staff, food was alright, and the atmosphere/ambiance was fun, yet quite noisy. The place was hopping when we arrived, but luckily we were able to snag a section of a shared table. Given the time we decided to eat, I'm not surprised at the noise level, but I'd definitely avoid prime dining hours next time. If I'm ever craving some birria tacos, I'd probably come here, but I'd pass on the other items we ordered. The enchilada was just okay and only 1 of my tacos tasted good (the chicken taco.) The Korean beef and al pastor tacos just didn't taste right, strange/wrong flavor profiles--ended up leaving them. Had to dock a few stars for that. This place isn't bad, but it also isn't great. Can't say I'd recommend or wouldn't recommend this restaurant. read more

I would say it's just average. That includes the drinks and the food. There are better options in Boulder and there are worse ones. Very personable and friendly staff. This is a place that I wouldn't mind coming back to after I've eaten somewhere else and then come here for additional drinkage and people watch. The bartenders are cool. The place had a lot of charm and lots of seating available inside and out. Parking was also largely available. Every staff member was so kind and welcoming. We ordered the birria taco plate which was not too greasy and really well portioned. We also tried the California burrito which tasted very fresh and packed with flavour. Only giving two stars because of their amazing manager (didn't catch his name!) but my mother and i stopped in for lunch and we had Ivory as our server. We told her there was an onion allergy and a preference of no tomato. Birria tacos came with onions cooked all throughout and so we wanted them re made and she told us if we didn't touch the first plate yet she wouldn't charge us for it?? charge us for an order you messed up because she said "she must've not been listening" when we mentioned the allergy. like?? okay whatever then i got a margarita w no straw and no lime. gave us water and no cups? manager said we could just keep the original order and take it home to someone who could eat it and then she proceeded to come over and take it from us which the manager then brought it back to our table and apologized. Once the bill came she avoided our table for 15 min closing out everyone around us who arrived after us. I had to track down another server who took the bill to her where she then added the messed up tacos to the bill!! i was over it and walked over to the kind manager who fixed the issues and apologized saying it looked like they were some how added back onto the bill after he had comped them off right away when the issue occurred.. strange. Food was good once correct and drink was okay. I think this place has good potential just maybe needs to re-evaluate their staff. Two stars for the manager and food. read more

Having a real expectation vs. reality moment with today's lunch from Verde. We've been coming here since they opened, and while the food has never been god-tier, it's been reliably good with excellent service. The ahi tuna bowl is a personal favorite. Or at least it used to be. They've changed the dish quite a lot since the last time I ordered, although the menu description is the same. Instead of seared rare ahi, don't be surprised if you get this wholly unappetizing presentation of well-browned fish that's somehow gelatinous in the center. Also ordered a bag of chips because they used to be delicious, but these were stale. I truly hate to leave anything less than a great review for any restaurant these days, but nobody should have to pay this much for an inedible take-out lunch. read more

I've eaten here a lot and tonight it was bad. They dumped a bunch of oil in the food especially the cream corn and kale taco and in the riceand my taco had a nasty bay leave in it which is only meant to cook with and stay in the pan it's not supposed to be served with the food! When they sent the manager (Adam) out ( a shorter man with shaggy brown hair and a gothic rock t shirt) so I could tell him he was argumentative and on the defense claiming I was just imagining it. He was extremely rude. And also claimed they don't use any oil in their food? Ok so how do they make tortilla chips? Whatever! Train your cooks or I'm not eating here anymore. My Pup, Millie, joined me for lunch today ~ not only did Erica (properly) ask to see Millie's "paperwork," she took time to actually READ it!!! That NEVER happens, ever! (~ and, as a responsible Dog Owner, one of my pet peeves is providing the proper documentation, only to have the requestor give it a mere cursory glance!) Bonus points awarded because all three of my idiosyncratic menu requests were carried out with ease and without having to repeat requests. Friendly, casual, fun, easy going ambiance. Tables were timely and quietly bussed. Food was nicely but simply presented, clean and delicious! Made-from- scratch and seasoned perfectly. Not overly spicy but solid and flavorful. Generously portioned. The Cilantro Rice only has a bit of cilantro atop white rice; it'd be better if the cilantro was infused into and/or mixed with the rice. And, you either LOVE cilantro or you don't order it ~ ergo, heap it on! Refried beans were sprinkled with cotijo. Yummm! Ramekin of guacamole was perfect. PERFECT. Their House Margarita was smooth and "just-right strong." All three of the front staff stopped by my table, at some point and ensured both my food, drink(s) and dining experience was enjoyable. Verde is a decent little restaurant tucked into a strip mall in Boulder. Their prices are slightly high, which is typical of the town. If you order a soda, like my Diet Coke, they bring you a single can with a glass of ice for $3. I have been in twice and both times have underwhelmed. I got the carnitas nachos on my last visit. The meat itself was good but the chips and cheese were over cooked, nearing burnt. I probably won't be back but if you're nearby, you could do worse. read more

After all of the rave reviews we decided to go there for Mother's Day. What a disappointment. The fajitas meat (both the steak and chicken) was dry and over cooked. One order of tacos (al pastor, carne asada, carnitas) arrived and the carne asada taco was about as sparse of a taco as you can get. Had to request to get some steak put on the taco (it maybe had a half dozen tiny little nuggets of steak). The Al pastor was mostly grizzle and fatty. The order of 3 chicken tacos was quite good. And lastly, the margarita (again, raved about online) tasted good but was mostly ice...a couple of sips and it was gone. The staff and service was great, so that's a plus, but save your money - go elsewhere...there's better in Boulder and area. read more

I liked the jackfruit texture in the vegetarian option, because it was a great substitute to meat, but was just off the heatness radar. Too spicy to even appreciate any type of flavor. I traveled Here to assist a family member, so this is my first visit. First, the waiter/greeter was friendly as I walked into the restaurant. He made me feel comfortable and quickly brought out a glass filled with water and a menu. Then, another waiter took my order and was helpful in explaining the meat and dairy free tacos! Recently got takeout from Verde through DoorDash. We got 2 California burritos (one chicken, one carne asada- both smothered) and were very happy with them! Wow, I really used to love Verde. They have had really good food and I have been here many times both the Boulder and Louisville restaurants. Except during my last visit I chipped a tooth on a rock that was in my nachos. Which has made us re-evaluate whether or not we will continue to visit Verde in the future. I mean come on. Soak the beans in a thing of water and skim them out. Rocks don't float but beans do. This really makes me frustrated because this rock literally damaged my teeth. There are so many other alternative Mexican restaurants in Boulder and I think we will start going to those instead. Margarita's were very watered down, don't bother. Carnitas were giant chunks instead of shredded and not good. The sides were actually quite good. It was a sad experience because I feel like there's potential but a total fail on the basics. It's also annoying to have to pay for chips and salsa but at least they were pretty good. read more
