It was a different mexican restaurant many years ago the last time I was here. Ordered the carne asada wet burrito, and the baja fish tacos. The burrito was good and just needed a bit more smothering sauce. The plates come with black beans and red rice. The fish tacos were a bit fishy so that was the only miss. What a neighborhood gem! Not only is this close to our house, the food, service and outdoor seating is amazing. I always order the Chicken Tinga burrito and after tasting my husband's poblano enchiladas I may have to trade off. There is so much in the burrito that I take some home and the chicken is tender and not dried out. The sauce is nice with just a bit of a kick. The poblano enchiladas are fire! A bit spicy and so fresh tasting. I highly recommend this place and sitting on the patio which has plenty of seating. Still a favorite! read more

Carne itself had so-so flavor, nothing spectacular (its half-inch beef squares... looks like it came pre-made from a food service) ... for $16 it should have been FAR better The sauce was decent but that was the only thing on the dish with flavor. Duck Tacos ($16 for 2)... not good. could be decent if they didnt drown it in some overly sweet sauce that was more Asian inspired than Mexican. You could not taste the meat itself. Pork Belly Tacos ($16 for 2)... decent but its bacon... super hard to mess up. about a $10 dish at most. Overall this is Expensive "meh" food. Black beans - yes, please. Pica's is quite competent Mexican (authentic? Dunno/don't care). Think Chipotle, but elevated a notch or two. Pro tip: Parking during rush hours is impossible. Don't do it. NO MASKS. I get it, we are all tired of wearing masks. But when the county has a mandate we, as residents should adhere and businesses- especially restaurants? Having seen this cute place tucked in a strip center I would have not guessed how good it was. Until I saw an order of their food get brought into the cycling shop next door. As a visitor to town only and so many places to choose from we selected this before heading to DIA Vanessa who greeted us promptly provided several top recos. I went with the beet tacos and pastuer. Served with rice and black beans. Amazing! Beets were grilled perfectly cubed with onion and cojoti (cheese). My boyfriend had the carne asada wet burrito. Which had a Mexican tangy BBQ sauce. Sure, the taste of their al pastor meat is smoking good, their veggie tacos had the perfectly grilled taste and texture, and spicy shrimp were crunchy (not mealy). Their sourcing is high-brow (not standard issue cheap quality USDA meats and seafood) and the difference in taste is obvious. Overall, their presentation was on point with solid flavor. Not tex-mex and smothered in cheese and iceberg lettuce!! However, I feel compelled to knock this spot on other issues: (1) Provide full service after customers stand in line to order food at the counter. Don't leave customers seated at tables for their food to be brought out, but force them to have to get up and search around the room for silverware and napkins. It's annoying especially while navigating doors to sit outside. Make servers bring out napkins/silverware with food and you'll probably save money on your supplies too. (2) Make sure that counter servers are not distracted in ten different directions. I had the unfortunate experience of a teenage(ish) girl taking my order, asking if I wanted salt on my margarita, hearing me say clearly "No", and then moving on auto-pilot to salt my glass. (3) Don't cut corners by not providing pico-de-gallo with your taco platter. It's ridiculous and not authentic to the Mexican cuisine experience to not provide a large vat of pico-de-gallo that people can serve themselves from. Even the most humble taqueria can provide a self-serve bowl of pico-de-gallo but here you don't provide it. I had to flag down a server and request a side. I wondered if I had to go back and stand in line to pay for a quarter cup of salsa. (4) Don't cut corners with lime! Geez. The lime was cut so small as to insult anyone who wanted to squeeze some over their food. It was clearly a cost-cutting measure and I didn't appreciate it. Again, humble taquerias serve properly-sized limes to ensure diners can squeeze it! (5) The taco platter at most places is three full tacos. Here for the same price you get two tacos and have to fork out extra $$ for a third. I felt the pricing is just jacked up inappropriately. I would come back more willingly if the pricing didn't come across as rather high. (6) A tip jar at the order counter is confusing because its insulting to tip servers when after all, the customer is getting their own fountain drinks and silverware. Just make the servers do the work, then leave the tip jar at the EXIT point with some jolly directions to tip the servers. read more

Very pleased with my choice. Food starting there so I don't forget. I got the grilled fish taco a la carte and the carne asada quesadilla plater. The grilled fish tacos were not the star of my meal. They were not bad, I did enjoy that they used corn taco shells and the fish was seasoned perfectly and had a good grill effect the toppings besides that were pretty good gave it a crunch and different textures down side was that the toppings and fish made taco soggy and fall apart. Now the carne asada quesadilla was BOMB seasoned perfect and grilled perfectly. Simple beans and rice were done perfectly. However, this is where the positives end. My burrito had very little meat and the sauce that said burrito was smothered in was bland and had little to no spice. The chili rellenos left much to be desired as they were soggy and had little flavor. The margarita also was not the best, but not the worst. I would consider it average but the alcohol taste was a little strong. All of this being said, the staff was fantastic! This place is complete garbage. They have a giant menu which they give you to make your order and withhold the fact that they are going to charge you more than the price listed. After being overcharged by 20% from the menu they point out a plastic menu that they are holding off to the side, which isn't even on the damn counter. They say "this is the real menu and price". When I asked why I was being charged from a menu that is held to the side and 10% the size of the giant board they have, they explained that the owner has left the old prices up for years and just charges you the higher rate. This place is a complete, purposeful rip off of the customers. Happy to have found another great, affordable and quick dinner spot in Boulder near the dance venue I attend (The Avalon - check out the swing dancing there!). I was overwhelmed by choices but the employee at the counter helped me by suggesting I try two different tacos. I went for Al Pastor (her recommendation) and the special beet taco. Minutes later I was enjoying both. The beet taco had soft and really flavorful beet chunks and a chewy, tangy Mexican cheese that rocked my mouth. The Al Pastor is not my style, but I did enjoy the tiny pineapple chunks mixed in. I'll be back on my next visit to the area and might have to try this wet burrito everyone speaks of. read more

We decided to try some tacos and the sort on a late Tuesday night, just before closing due to the hours not being updated on Yelp, I fixed that though. Anyways, the cashier provided a great service with suggestions and tips. We ordered the Al Pastor tacos and Shrimp burrito and a side of guacamole. The tacos we're good, maybe not fantastic but they had good flavor and a fair amount of spicing, pineapple was definitely noticeable unlike some other Al Pastor beef we've had. I was expecting at least one more than just two tacos but oh well, the simple beans (kind of bland), bland Mexican rice and a good helping of guac helped me out in filling up. I poured on the hot sauce as well. My wife had the burrito and OMG was this good. I'm serious the tacos pale in comparison to this omazing(I said it, O) tortilla wrapped concoction. The Shrimp were plenty and cooked to perfection, plump, somewhat crisp and juicy. The simple bland beans and rice didn't over power the shrimp either, how could it. The kicker that made this even better was the creamy lime cabbage and red onion chile de arbole salsa, as stated on their website. This salsa was very spicy for us as we're hot food wussies, but didn't stop us from enjoying it. There was probably some cilantro and other things in there but I couldn't identify them. On a return trip we'll definitely get something else smothered in the lime cabbage.....salsa and imbibe in some great craft been in a can for $3.50 5 Stars for the burrito and service but 4 due to the bland beans and rice. read more
