Came by for dinner on a Thursday night and it was pretty crowded. That being said, the host was so great and was able to get us a table after a short wait! We used their online qr code ordering system which was extremely easy and made ordering as a group (and paying separately) extremely convenient. I ordered a small guacamole and chips and a margarita to start. The guac was flavorful and had the perfect amount of kick to it without being overwhelming and the margarita was very balanced and not overly sweet which I definitely prefer! For my tacos I ordered the carne asada, carnitas, and pork belly. They were all delicious but the pork belly was definitely a standout with a wonderfully glazed pork belly that was tender but crispy at the same time and the addition of some pickled red onions for an extra flavor and textural element. If ordering tacos, they recommend anywhere from 3-5 on average as they are on the smaller side around 3-4 bites each. Overall, this was a great experience and I would definitely come back for more of those pork belly tacos! read more

While the place is convenient, I wouldn't recommend this place if you're a die hard foodie. If you just want to hang and have drinks this place is great for that, however the food is rather a disappointment. The tacos are way overpriced for what they give you, there's barely any meat/filling in these tacos and I always leave hungry. I enjoyed the roasted duck, pork belly, and baja fish tacos here. Both were well spiced and crispy. I also tried the chicken verde, ahi tuna tatako, and seared chorizo tacos. All were pretty tasty but the pork belly and the fish were the standouts. I appreciate that the menu points out that these tacos are small (about 3 bites) which is great if you want to try a variety. But I do think for the price, the tacos were just a little too small. There also might've been some miscommunication between my party and the restaurant as we were told we could occupy the whole front patio space when the reservation was made. However on the day of, as my team arrived, we were told we can only stay where our tables were officially reserved and not block other customer tables. Totally valid and understandable, we did have about 11 people gathered around, but we would've never intentionally crowded around those tables if we had known so it was a bit of a mood killer. Wow, that was unbelievable and not in a good way. I have been a regular since they opened in the fall of 2017. According to my Yelp records, I have eaten at Bartaco 64 times. It's been a family favorite. Tonight most of the food had changed dramatically from the last time we were there, sometime last summer. The only thing recognizable was the guac and my ginger grapefruit agua fresca. Even the"chips" for the guac was unrecognizable. They have always been full round corn tortillas baked firm so you could snap a section off to use as a chip. It was their hallmark, tasty , crisp and the perfect lift for the guac. What we got tonight appeared to be a similar size and shape tortilla that looked fried with puffy fragile bubbles all over, delicate like a cookie. Crumbled as it hit the guac and hard to gather any on it. Our fingers ended up rescuing the corn crumb chunks from the guac. Moving on in disaster mode, our tamales arrived. They were new to the menu since we were last in. Yes, there was a corn husk involved but rather than steamed and soft they appeared fried and crispy. The tamale was open on the top and smothered in spicy but apparently raw jalapeño sauce. We tried to unwrap them to find the masa and pork. My husband found a fair amount of masa but I, the masa lover, had to scrape the inside of the husk. And when looking for it found 2 pieces of apparently grilled pork, that had been cut as for salad topping and tossed into the tamale cavity after the cooking process. My husband found none in his. I found one big chunk and one tiny. That is not a tamale. When I mentioned to a server I got a silent nod of agreement. I have made real tamales myself over the years having been taught by an AZ native of a Hispanic neighborhood . Yes, Bartaco has made some reinventions of the traditional food but this was tragic. The final insult was their key lime pie in a jar. A favorite in the past. Tonight's version was very sad. The graham cracker crumbs were not pressed into the bottom as a crust. They were deposited loose by the spoonful throughout the jar. The key lime custard itself tasted normal but there was hardly any at all, about a 1" layer. Formerly half the jar, so 2" at least. And then a shallow layer of whipped cream with scattered lime skin grating, regular taste but less. The jars seem smaller too. I had an email from them 2 days ago, announcing the key lime as the giveaway product until Jan 24, two days from now. We were told it was not free tonight, it was last night only. A plain cheese quesadilla was free tonight and of not interest to us. There were some highlights to mention. We both agreed the duck birria was tasty and a good size serving. They have finally expanded their beer offerings to include local craft beers including some from Avery. There were years that Modela stood alone. The wines and cocktails lists were similarly expanded. The servers were fine and sympathetic to our plight and we did not leave hungry but did leave sadly disappointed for the first time ever and maybe the last. The food was just ok. The pork belly was super spicy and no indication that it was when all the other food had marked by it to let you know what to expect. The guacamole was also spicy and again no indication that it was. Being from Cali and going to many Mexican restaurant we don't make it spicy, just not a common thing to do! Having been to several Bartaco locations in Miami, it was a pleasant surprise to see this location in Boulder. Our party of five was seated on the patio area, which provided an opportunity to enjoy the people watching and sunny weather. The margaritas were fresh and flavorful, and the cold beer selections were plentiful on a warm day. The tri-dips and chips offer a nice variety of flavors, and the street corn is always my favorite along with the fresh guacamole. Plenty of taco options, but my favorites are the pork belly and fish tacos. Overall, the experience at Bartaco in Boulder was wonderful. I was between 3 and 4 stars so call this 3.5. Food was a 3 but service was a 5. Totally fast and efficient. We loved the pork belly taco the best and we crushed two large guacamoles. Ahi taco was a drippy mess on a bib lettuce leaf and the steak and shrimp were dry and hard to chew. Not much food for the price so be prepared to spend a bunch and still be hungry. The duck birria with broth was too salty and honestly couldn't taste the duck at all. The fish taco is pretty small but had good crunch. I really enjoyed the sesame ribeye taco with the kimchi on top, it was a perfect blend of flavors and they gave a generous amount of filling on the taco. The limes are super tiny and the order placement system they have (ordering through your phone) is so glitchy and annoying. This is a modern Mexican restaurant, but feels geared towards the college crowd. We didn't love the phone mobile ordering, though I see how it can be useful for large groups. I would have much rather been offered the options to order with the waitress or use our phones. I prefer paper menus rather than having to navigate through an unfamiliar website/app. Our waitress really only came only after we placed an order on our phone. Came for dinner. Place was busy which is always a good sign. Had to wait 30-40 minutes for a table, but that was no big deal. There were 4 of us in our party. There was a single menu on the table. Apparently, if you move the silverware container, there is a QR code on the table. Ok The app was not quick and easy to use. The person paying the bill had to provide a phone number, enter a security code and credit card before displaying a menu. Not happy about that because I am already receiving text from them to rate the restaurant. No. I use Yelp! We finally got our order in. We ordered the larger size tri dip and chips, They gave us 5 4-5 inch round chips. With 4 of us at the table, that didn't work. They provided no napkins, and no plates. When they brought the drinks, my Diet Coke came in a can. No glass, no straw. We asked for more chips and a straw for my can of Coke The children's meals came out fast. But the taco was very small. Much smaller than anticipated. The adult meals took a long time. I personally do not like children's meals to arrive 15 minutes before the adults. We finally were served our tacos, but all came on a single tray. Tacos are messy, we can't all eat off the same tray. So we had to wait for our server to bring more trays. Food was ordered using a QR code. One of the managers named Yanni seated us on the huge shaded patio which was full at lunchtime. Other than that we had little staff interaction aside from an explanation of the menu. We ordered guac and red salsa and a stack of crispy tortillas that came out right away. The rojo salsa was spicy and sour, but I didn't love the flavor or texture, however the guacamole was fresh and delicious and the tostadas were crispy and a fun novelty. My husband loved his fresh made margarita. A rice bowl with Korean ribeye was good, but 90% rice, a little disappointing. We also had pork belly, duck, verde chicken, shrimp and ribeye tacos, lots of Asian and Mexican flavors, all tasty, but heavy on the acid and garlic. We enjoyed a pleasant lunch on Pearl Street in Boulder with our "CU Buff" daughter and her boyfriend. The atmosphere is beautiful inside and out and the food tastes fresh. read more

Love Bartaco! This was the best place I visited in Boulder. After a disappointing walk down Pearl Street being accosted by homeless people and witnessing a dude speaking to himself as he shook uncontrollably, I ended up here. This saved the trip. Don't let the randos frighten you away. This place is awesome. First, I have to give a shout out to the staff. From the hostess to the server to the manager. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and great representatives of this restaurant Ordering is done via scanning a QR code at the table. This is incredibly easy and something I wish more restaurants would go to. You can close your tab or keep it open once you make your first order. I strongly recommend keeping it open as you will want more after your first bite. Easy ordering and paying the tab is great but not at the expense of poor food. Well, the food here is even better than the ordering experience. Extra points for being able to make everything a lettuce wrap if you are trying to cut carbs. It justifies the street corn carbs that you absolutely, without a doubt, must order. Get out of your comfort zone when you order. You will not be disappointed. Duck tacos? Never had it but damn it was good. Pork tacos? Yes, please. There was nothing that was not absolutely amazing. Pro tip: Buy some rocks glasses with their logo. This is a fun and lively taco bar located in Downtown Boulder. It's definitely a fun spot especially with the vibes. They offer a huge variety of tacos from vegetarian options to seafood and proteins. I like that they have different sauces at the table with different spice levels. You also order via QR code here which is very efficient. We got the chips and guac and a large variety of tacos. The chips and guac were tasty as all the ingredients were fresh. The chips came out in tortilla rounds. I would say all their tacos are pretty good, some have more of a spicier kick than others. I remember their shrimp being really spicy like my mouth was burning for a good ten minutes after, LOL. I also enjoyed the pork belly. The service here was good, and the servers were friendly. They checked up on us often and always had a huge smile on their faces. I would definitely come back here especially for Happy Hour. The staff was great. The food was good. The logistics of bringing out the food is where things got weird. We had a group of 7 and everyone ordered the lunch trays, which was 3 tacos and a salad or soup served on a tray. They started bringing out the first ones with a salad and two tacos on a tray then the third taco on a tray of its own. The table was not big enough for that. Then they start bringing out random salads and tacos one at a time and everyone gets confused. It was chaos. If everyone had just got a single tray with all their items it would have been much better. The app was a nice to have so everyone could order separately. Bartaco corporate should make the app have a better user experience but that isn't Boulder's fault. read more

My boyfriend and I went to this location tonight. There was no wait and when we requested an outdoor table, we were accommodated quickly. After being seated, we saw multiple tables seated around us. As we waited for attention, we saw that the other tables were being brought water and had orders taken. My boyfriend went up and asked if we could have some water, in fact his words were, "I'm not sure if anyone can see us". Water was brought promptly after that and our order was taken. We sat for another 10-15 minutes as we watched all of the other tables being served. We also saw a lot of confusion within the serving staff. It seemed as though they weren't sure which drinks and food went to which table. This place was amazing. I had a taco craving that was sadly unfulfilled in Denver and our Uber driver recommended this joint. It did not disappoint!
