It's not fried entirely in oil like some other restaurants do, which isn't bad, it's just a different style of making it, but I loved Molcajete's way!! The mild green salsa's were also fantastic. Food: I had the fajitas al camaron. The rice and beans were pretty good. The shrimp, peppers, and onions were good but a little under seasoned. I liked the green sauce they gave, but it was such a tiny container, I wish they gave more. Service: The cashier spoke solely Spanish so it was difficult to try and order food, but the waiter was nice. Ambience: It's a little sketchy looking, but the food was better than the outside so I guess that's good. I did have to go outside to go to the bathroom outside though, and it was smelly. Food was delicious and came out relatively quite. The staff was incredibly friendly and was a pleasure to meet. My boyfriend and I shared one meal and it was plenty for both of us, we even took some of the meat home. Using the "Diners, Drive-ins & Dives" definition, by all accounts, Tacos Al Molcajete could be considered a "Dive," and after 5+ years of going here, it's one of my favorite Mexican dives in Longmont. Sure, it's a bit shabby looking for a gringo like me, but it's nice & clean. Honestly, I could care less what it looks like, because the owner & staff are welcoming & friendly, and the food is always super-muy-delicioso! I love both the carnitas & barbacoa smothered burritos. Savory juicy meats are wrapped in a never dried-out tortilla, generously smothered in a mild spicy green chille, then freshly-chopped lettuce & tomatoes are tossed on top. Sides of red & green salsas add some serious kick if that's your jam. On cold days, the inner dining room is fine, but I prefer eating outside on nice days. The covered patio is basically just a concrete pad with a bunch of brown plastic picnic tables under a rickety-looking metal structure. And while Longmont's Main St. can get a bit loud from time to time, it gets you out in the fresh air, while also shaded from our intense noon-time summer sun so you can take your time to enjoy the tasty dishes. BTW: no margaritas or cervezas here, so grab a large ice cold glass bottle of sweet Mexican Coke made with real non-gmo caña de azúcar (sugar cane) with your savory burrito... a perfect pairing! read more

On the way to see friends, my husband and I stopped at this local gem for some lunch and why a flavorful delight! While the place doesn't look like much from the street, the food will not disappoint. There are plenty of picnic tables outside and some seating inside as well. The staff is super friendly and welcoming! We ordered a smothered Al pastor burrito that was flavorful, filled with rice, beans and plenty of marinated pork! The green Chile is super mild so I put their hot sauce over everything and enjoyed every bite. My husband order the Chile rellanos plate and the chiles tasted fresh and delicious. The breading was a bit too soggy for me but that's a personal preference thing. My husband also ordered a taco Al pastor and a lengua taco. I had never eaten lengua so I decided to give it a try and I must say it was delicious. We will be back. I always appreciate a locally owned business with great food and a friendly staff. I've been here numerous times already and I have to say that this taco joint is top notch. The entire menu is in Spanish, so you can definitely tell that this is not any Americanized abomination, but actual Mexican food. The street tacos are very authentic and practically all of the dishes here are good. I haven't had anything I dislike. In particular, I highly recommend the street tacos with the barbacoa. Slather on some pico de gallo and salsa, spritz some lime, and this is going to be one of the most delicious (and reasonably cheap) meals you've ever had. Fair word of warning - for people who can't handle spicy food, I recommend you stay away from the orange and red salsas. They will destroy you. To finish off your meal, you can always order their churros. To be honest, they're not the best churros I've ever had, but I've never had "authentic" churros before so I don't have a point of reference to give you. This restaurant is a favorite place for my coworkers and I. We frequent at least 1x every few weeks. read more

If you can ignore the lack of decor and very plain dining area, you'll be rewarded with friendly service and good food. Tacos are $2 each and my favorite was the chorizo one. If needed you can help yourself to the salsa bar. They offer classic and simple Mexican food, nothing trendy but looking at my neighbors plates everything looked good. Very accurate reviews the Al pastor taco is fantastic. Not sure about the complaints on price. I ordered 10 al pastor, 2 carne asada, and 2 pollo tacos to go and it was ~$46. My husband and I have an addiction to their breakfast burritos. They're nice if you want to combo meat or make any small edits. Great street tacos too! I know all the rest of their food is amazing but we can't stop getting their breakfast burritos weekly the last 6+ months.. multiple days a week sometimes. Service is great! I was wavering between 2 and 3 stars, but the employee who helped me was nice, so I'm going with the high end. This seems like a really authentic place, but the food was not so good. I had a torta with carnitas. The pork was red, which I had not seen in carnitas before, and the flavor was not right. Salsas were good though. This place has kind of a fast food vibe, but the prices are in the 10-$15 range. I would probably try something else on the menu, but this will not be my stop for tortas. read more

Came here for their tacos ($1.79). Got al pastor (a little dry), asada (super tasty), pollo (shredded chicken with good flavor and not dry), and carnitas (my least favorite which was a disappointment because it's normally my favorite; flavor was meh and texture wasn't as soft or shredded as I'm used to). The tacos are slightly larger than usual and they give a reasonable amount of meat. There's a sauce bar you can use to top your tacos but unfortunately they don't give complimentary chips (maybe that's just a California thing). Either way, the tacos were pretty good but I wouldn't say they were out of this world mind blowing. Also, like some people have said, avoid the red sauce unless you like crazy spicy cause it's really hot. read more

Very good, authentic street tacos. We tried asada, buche, barbacoa, chorizo and chicharrones. Our favorite was barbacoa, it was tensor and had great flavor. Buche came in number 2, in the past I've had this crispy or greasy (buche = pork stomach) but this one was very meaty and flavor almost reminded me of a rich deli meat. Asada was next, standard flavor and not too dry. The only taco I'd actually avoid was chicharrones. Most authentic tacos and in general, Mexican food in the greater Boulder area. This is the perfect lunch spot for those who work in Longmont and tacos are only $1.79 compared to the overpriced $3 street tacos in Boulder. And let me tell you, the flavor of the meat is unparalleled. The carne asada is so fresh and tasty and the carnitas are so juicy. I'm never disappointed by whatever I get here. The owner is super friendly and a great local spot. They have a lovely array of different types of salsas from mild to extremely hot. I thought I might get tired of tacos after going will my co-workers 3 Fridays in a row but I always seem to find myself craving more by the next Thursday. Hopefully I can get my fix soon!! read more
