We stopped by and ordered take out from Veltre's when we were passing through the Braddock Hills area near Pittsburgh. We did an Italian Hoagie, Steak and Cheese Hoagie, and a pizza. Everything was really good. Pizza is on the thicker side with a lot of cheese and flavor. Hoagies were packed with meat and the flavor was great. This location does not have a dining area. Got pizza & a salad delivered last night. While the pizza didn't knock our socks off, my husband and I both thought it was good. I got a small white pizza & the husband tried the long, thick, rectangular "Grandma's Pie" pizza (his small was GINORMOUS, btw). My white pizza was good - though I was hard-pressed to tell which 3 cheeses were on it. I like a "white" that includes ricotta - it gives the pizza such nice texture & flavor. This one just ended up with a thick layer of melted cheese, but the spices and tomatoes were good. My husband's pie was so thick (I'm not a fan); he said it was "pretty good" but wouldn't order it again. The large tossed salad was a slight cut above a typical pub salad - head lettuce mixed w/ some better greens, slivered red onion, toms, & croutons that seemed homemade. The balsamic dressing was just a packet of Ken's - which is pretty good. All in all - not bad. We'd probably order again if we wanted pizza on a Monday, because our usual places are closed. read more

A solid pizza choice! This is a take out only place, but they do have some room inside to wait if you needed. It's always clean inside and everyone is very friendly. They do get some busy times though - sometimes a pizza could take 45 minutes to an hour if you call when they're busy, so just plan accordingly if you are ordering for a specific time. I almost always get their pizza from here but I've had sandwiches too which were also great! I also like that they serve pizza by the slice too if you are driving by and want something quick that's not fast food. They also have wedding soup that is seasonal that you can tell is freshly homemade! It has big chunks of food in it, like big carrots and big chunks of meatballs, so if that's your style you will love it! read more

When I lived in Regent Square and Veltre's was still in Swissvale, we ate there 3-4 times a month if not more. Several years later and this is still our go to pizza spot. We have ordered a ton off their menu. If we want pizza we order cheese with banana pepper or a white pizza. Both are amazing. Speaking of amazing- hot pepper cheese balls. You need to eat them! They are seriously so good. We order the chicken fingers for my daughter and she loves them. Believe it or not Veltre's actually makes my favorite burger. The mushroom swiss- it's mouth watering and...now I want one! We order delivery and pay over the phone which really works out during this Covid time. Delivery is always faster than the time they say. 1st time ever trying this place and was completely disappointed!!! Ordered a Sicilian pizza with hot sausage, a cheese burger, and onion rings........The pizza is lacking sause! (Thick bread pizza should have ample amount of sause, and it looks as if they cut up (1) hot sausage for a large pizza). The cheese burger was just that, a burger on a bun with cheese! I have been on the lookout for a decent NY style pizza here and Pittsburgh and I stumbled upon Veltre's Pizza. We ordered a large pepperoni pie, steak & Cheese wedgie, and bread sticks. Everything tasted amazing and it was ready in 20 minutes. The pizza was thinner than most (which I like) and it had good ratio of cheese and sauce. It wasn't too greasy and the crust was crispy. I have ordered from Veltres for years but my last 3 experienced have made me say, "It's one, two, three strikes your out in the old ball game!" First, bad experience, they burnt my pizza-strike one, Second bad experience I was waiting for delivery they listed it as pickup-strike two and my experience today-I call. for pickup-they take my order-tell me when I arrived they don't have an order for me. Not sympathetic, I don't know I just came in the clerk says! That's it, I don't have to pay for bad service. When there are other Pizza places in the area. You lost a long time customer and you clearly charged me $20 dollars for something the website says is $15! read more

Good family-owned business. We have been ordering Veltre's since the early 80s. It used to be great, but over the years it seems to be losing its charm. The pizza, burgers, and the hoagies are good at best. It just hasn't been consistent for my liking. There is nothing overly exciting any longer. There is something just off with the cheese blend on the pizza, It leaves an after taste that I can't explain. It just might be me also. The sauce has changed over the years as well. The competition in the area is fears. For our family over the years, we have nothing overly negative to say, but nothing spectacular to say either. The employees and delivery drivers are always very friendly. Pick up and delivery have always been on time. We plan on loosing the number for a bit. We will be back. Been eating at and getting delivery from Veltre's for over 15 years. Never disappointed. The Italian Dogs are amazing (get meatball sauce if possible, marinara is just as good though!) The Wedding Soup is phenomenal. The pizza has a great crust, good sauce and the toppings are reasonably priced. I love the cheesesteaks, also. Portions are great, service is quick and the employees are all nice and personable. **update**1/22/17 We've switched up our ordering recently. The meatball calzone is excellent (literally just paused to take a bite) and the Cajun wings are reasonably priced, full of meat and have a really good amount of seasoning (we've had the cajun ones the most, but the garlic-butter dipping sauce is darn good with the wings and the calzone!) Chicken and steak salads are sooo good. Wish it was "real" steak, but hey, it's a pizza shop and in no way takes away from the goodness. read more

I've been to a lot of pizzeria's in Pittsburgh. Every Yinzer has a place they recommend. And every time, I am disappointed because they all taste, smell, and look the same. This place is a decent pizzeria. You can walk in and order. That's about it. No place to sit and eat. But its a small shop and they do it right. The pizza I tasted, reminded me of a few spots in Manhattan. I took a bite, and felt like I was back in uptown. Its that pulling a slice off, and the toppings come right with it. That's not a bad thing, IMO. That means, they load your pizza. So you are getting what you pay for. Look, pizza is pizza. And everyone will have an opinion. 40 years ago, my parents took a trip to Italy. During their adventures through a small town, they came upon small pizza cart. My Mother, who's Italian, rejoiced at the site of some truly authentic pizza. My German/English Father, on the other hand, was sure that pizza was just a fad. Well, all these years later, pizza keeps gaining momentum. There are so many verities now, that it's difficult to keep track- thin crust, thick crust...crust with cheese in it, etc. Sauce is also important... is it spicy or sweet? Does the sauce compliment the cheese and topping, or is it overwhelming? I had to opportunity to order a pie from Veltree's Pizza in Swissvale last evening. We got a standard medium pizza with extra cheese, banana peppers, black olives, and anchovies (on the side). In 20 minutes the delivery boy arrived, "that will be $21.12." That seems a bit much for a medium pizza, but this wasn't a small pie by any means. As I grabbed the box, I noticed the heft- always a good sign... that means they didn't skimp on the extra cheese. As we opened the container, a rich scent permeated the air... cooked dough, combined with rich cheese and fresh tomato sauce... mmmmm. We quickly grabbed our plates, extra napkins, and forks (the first piece is always too hot to eat with your hands). As I bit into the pizza, I noticed the saltiness of the cheese... probably a provolone, and mozzarella mixture. The sauce was tangy, and slightly sweet. The crust was thicker than most of the regular pizzas I had eaten over the past year. The dough was chewy and sweet, but could have definitely used MORE salt. The veggies were all fresh; a perfect accompaniment to the rest of the pie. Take an opportunity to try a pizza at Veltree's is you have a chance. I'm picky about my pizzerias. I grew up with one place right around the corner from me and had to learn to love another place when I moved out of Pittsburgh. So when I returned to the 'burgh too far away from my favorite, I was anxious to find a good delivery place close by. Veltre's has proven themselves to me over and over again. Their pizza sauce is better than the place I grew up with and the crust is always nice and chewy. As to the calzone - it's now a staple in my home. Lots of filling, excellent cheeses and the sauce is just about the tastiest I've ever had. Also, I'm vegetarian and my mother can't eat red sauce. No problem - Veltre's makes it for me with no sauce inside and a container of marinara sauce on the side. The people there are always very accommodating. A large is big enough for three people with leftovers for one more serving. Some friends came over one night and we ordered four large - two meatball, one chicken and one of my favorite - spinach and mushroom. My friends only managed to finish one out of the three they'd ordered (the meatball) and decided it was better than the calzone at Monte Cello's - a restaurant they'd been going to for over fifteen years. As to delivery time, I generally order a little later than standard dinner time and I've rarely waited more than 45 minutes for my order. The one time they forgot something, it took only about ten minutes for the driver to pick it up and drop it off. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that I've only ordered pizza and calzone so I'm not familiar enough with the rest of the menu to go full out. Pizza toppings are generous, the sauce is spicy without being overwhelming, and crust is crispy without being burnt. The calzones, sides, burgers, and salads, especially the steak salad, are all also very, very good - I've literally had every single item on the menu and never been disappointed ! Worth noting that the employees there and delivery drivers are always very helpful and friendly, and when you call an order in they're always willing to help with suggestions or substitutions. You can also make special requests that they never shy away from - I've asked for garlic butter on my pizza crust, extra this-or-that, and for a few absolutely crazy pizzas and I've never been disappointed. Bonus Points: They use Mancini's rolls. As a Pittsburgher that's all I needed to hear. read more
