This is our favorite Thai in the East Bay! We sometimes get takeout, but this time we dined in. We arrived at 5:30. We were very unfortunate in that we had the table with the sun right in our face. We should've had the table ball against the wall to the right as you walk in. Will make sure we get that table next time. There was already a group sitting there only got here. Services, friendly and prompt. They took our order quickly, and food started coming out quickly. We had a few dishes where the spice levels were 4, but I myself prefer 3 or even 2. We had a really disappointing experience tonight. I ordered the drunken noodles and my husband ordered soup. My dish came out right away, but his never came at all. We waited long enough that my food got completely cold, and there was no communication or update from the staff about the delay. Eventually we just asked for the check and left without him ever receiving his meal. To make matters worse, the response from our server felt dismissive rather than apologetic. This could have been handled much better with basic communication and coordination. Really frustrating experience. read more

We like to have dinner here after cycling on the Iron Horse Trail. The service is fast and welcoming. The food is fresh and beautifully prepared. We had Pad Thai with pork. (I want to try the duck next time). Nice big pieces of tofu and lots of meat. We also had the Chili Basil Fish medium spicy (3 in a scale of 5) and it was very nice (a little heat). I think we will be trying level 4 next time. The fish was deep fried and very tasty. The sauce had great spice flavor. We finished off our meal with the mango with sticky rice. It was SO good!! I have been coming here for years. The food has always been amazing and still is. However, the service really does need work. My last 3 visits have been really hectic. (Within 1 Month) The person taking my order charged me my items and when the food came out it was tofu version. They admitted their mistake and remade it. I did have to wait a significant time due to it being busy. I was late for work etc. annoying but food was good. It seemed like the young man was new to the job so I didn't make a big deal. 2nd time I ordered with my two coworkers and 2/3 orders were incorrect . Our mistake for not checking before we left. We literally just ate it because we didn't have time to go back. Again, bc the food was good I decided to give it another try. 3rd time to avoid a mishap and long wait I called ahead to place my order. When I show up someone that was also waiting for a p/u order was handed a bag by the same young man . He looked so confused. I let them know that I'm here for a pick up as well and it seems they gave the other person my order. He quietly called the other person. They did drive back about 10 minutes later. The same young man directly handed it to me like it was OK... absolutely not!!!!I really do love this place but I probably won't be returning for a while. I'm quite disappointed. So good! Great prices with great flavors. My new go to for Thai food in WC. They have very friendly staff! I haven't sat in before, only doing takeouts, but the service is quick and efficient (less than 15 minutes for my meal). They had cute decor inside! The food is really good and a bang for your buck. I was a big surprised to see that at dinner time on a Saturday night there were two people seated in the restaurant. But maybe it's mostly take out and delivery- the ambience certainly is not inviting. We found the food to be average and would not eat there again. The Pad Se Ew noodles were gummy, with few vegetables and the dish was very sweet. Massaman Curry was ok, but again very sweet compared to the many versions we've consumed previously. The Chicken Laarb Salad had almost no vegetables. It was basically a pile of seasoned ground chicken. The Fried Chicken with Fried Rice was good and the best dish of the evening. I live very close to this place and used to come here all the time. Unfortunately I'm never going back. My girlfriend and I ordered from here last night and she was eating her fried rice and found a cockroach in her food. She was throwing up all night and I've also been sick knowing I was eating the same food. I went back and showed them what was in the food and they offered to make another one for me. Are you seriously going to ask me if I want another fried rice that we just found a dead roach in. They should have thrown away the whole batch they had and cleaned everything. It took multiple attempts for them to finally give me my money back, very unprofessional. Earlier today I ordered takeout from Vanda Thai in Walnut Creek and was extremely disappointed. I ordered the Som Tum (green papaya salad with added shrimp) and the Drunken Noodles, and both dishes were frankly awful. The Som Tum tasted anything but fresh. The shredded papaya was wilted, limp, and tasted stale--more like something that had been sitting around than freshly prepared. I paid extra to add shrimp, and those were equally disappointing with poor texture and an off taste. The Drunken Noodles were just as bad. The flat rice noodles were severely overcooked and had fused into one giant sticky clump. Every time I tried to lift noodles with my fork, the entire mass came up in one glued-together lump. The beef tasted stale as well, not freshly cooked. For the prices being charged, this was completely unacceptable and honestly one of the most disappointing takeout meals I've had in a long time. As someone who does not even like pad Thai, I was impressed with theirs. Even fried, the noodles remained bouncy, chewy and tasted like the noodles did NOT sit out and break apart easily. They also provided a GENEROUS portion of shrimp - Vanda Thai does NOT skimp. I was most impressed with their Kao Soy (Khao Soi). A lot of non Thai people living in this area probably aren't acquainted with northern Thai food but this noodle soup dish is fragrant creamy and the star of everything I tried. Very unique dish that is hard to find and Vanda Thai's take on it was better than the ones I've had in Chiang Mai, Thailand! I was concerned that they would combine the soup and noodles together when delivering it to us. However, upon calling they assured me their default is to serve noodles and soup separately. They read my mind :) This is such a great spot for take out or dining in. Walnut Creek is so lucky to have this Thai spot - better than all the other south east, overly commercialized and hyped spots honestly speaking. (You know what restaurants I'm talking about). This is my favorite Thai place. It's close to my work so I eat there frequently. My favorite dishes are the spicy green bean chicken (it is very spicy), pad Thai (it's on the sweeter side), Tom Kha soup, Beef Salad (spicy) and Pineapple Fried Rice. I usually add a steamed veggie and side of peanut sauce to go. I bring the peanut sauce home and used it to make other dishes. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. read more

It looked like there were also numerous DoorDash drivers waiting as well. When I checked again at 6:45, I was told it would be another 15 minutes. This place was very good and I can't wait to go back. I ordered the pumpkin curry w chicken, and roti with curry, both were very flavorful! The pumpkin curry was spicy but still good. The roti was flaky and oily and absolute perfection with the yellow curry. My husband liked his pad Thai. I will definitely go back. Really appreciate some authentic wall art pictures and canvases of Phuket. There's only one person taking orders and running the entire place. Sometimes when the phone rings, customer may get unnoticed. Overall service is relatively good, once you get an attention. Food served timely, however, the quality might use some improvements. Tom Kha was a bit over-salted and came on the lower bottom of a bowl. Fresh roll is all unevenly cut and came in different sizes. Kia noodles were very tasty. Tried Vanda Thai for first time with 4 others. 5 thumbs up! My wife and I are tough food graders and we both were extremely happy with our meals and that we have found a place we will happily return to frequently. Prices very reasonable also. Decor is plain and seating limited. However, menu is extensive. I had massamun curry with fish filets. Wife had Kua Noodles with tofu. I used to work close by this restaurant . My friends and I would frequent this spot. Loved their house fried rice and samosas! So bomb!! Honestly haven't been there since before Covid but recently, I was working nearby and it was one of my bestie's birthdays. I thought it'd be nice to bring her dinner from this spot since we used to eat there often. I ordered: pad Thai, samosas, potstickers, chicken satay, house fried rice, yellow curry & Thai teas. Didn't like the food. I ordered egg rolls, Basil fried rice and green curry. The rolls were fried in a stale oil and tasted like horrible. I finished my food but will be trying other places before coming back. I'm rating the food based on quality, presentation, and taste. The pad se ew was decent with mild flavor. Ordered takeout from Door Dash, so this is a skewed review for takeout only experience. This was the best Thai flavor I've had since moving to the Bay. They definitely are cooking for authentic flavor. The prices are some of the most affordable I've seen for Thai nearby, but they don't skimp on the extras- the Basil chicken came with a side of rice, the pad Thai was full of veggies. The down star is because I asked for very spicy and received zero spice. Will try again when I'm in Walnut Creek and can go in person and ensure my spice needs are met! ;) read more

We've been looking to come here for a few weeks. Vanda is located in a strip mall near Broadway Plaza. There is a roomy parking lot with plenty of spaces. It was pretty early so the place was empty. We received a friendly greeting and were seated quickly. We started with the chicken satay app, then ordered pad Thai, pad see ew, bbq beef, sizzling beef, and ginger chicken. Food came out quickly; portions were large and had lots of flavor. Prices were reasonable as well. We'll definitely be back! read more

The family has been huge fans of Similan Thai in Danville for years...but for some inexplicable reason, we decided to try out Vanda Thai. The gentleman we ordered from was not unfriendly, but definitely not overly welcoming. For the four of us we ordered four entrees, two with chicken, one pork, one beef in the Massaman Curry. To the latter, being a true favorite and having enjoyed the dish many times locally and in Thailand, the tender, slow cooked cubes of beef seem to always be a distinct and defining part of the dish. In this case, the dish was composed a several yellow onion pieces, fewer bits of potato, and literally two small slices of carrot. Perhaps most disappointing was the beef. While I'm not sure of the particular cut, it was similar if not the same to the thinly sliced beef one gets in a cheap Chinese American stir fry. Taste was non distinct. Ironically, while all four dishes were vastly different, seeing them on the plates all at once, it was challenging to distinguish one from the other both visually...and again disappointingly, from a taste perspective. All dishes were almost void of any vegetables other than the odd slice of yellow onion. The Pra Ram, known for it's peanut buttery sauce, broccoli and spinach consisted of one tiny piece of broccoli (the only green thing in all four dishes) and rather than spinach, cheap steamed cabbage was used instead. Not clear where all the glowing reviews come from especially so when there are multiple great alternatives nearby. Glad we tried, but would not return. read more
