We had a system installed with 2nd Energy Solar in 2018. The system worked great. We were seeing electricity bills go down. And I was given a link to monitor how much power my panels were bringing in. In 2019 I asked for a new link because I lost it. Jared, the owner, was fast and responded quickly, which I appreciated greatly since 2019 was a rough year. The pandemic starts, and suddenly my entire family is working and learning from home. Our energy usage changed. Or at least, I figured our usage went up since we were staying at home 100% of the time. I don't believe I checked the link. I was busy remote teaching, helping my daughter learn online, and later changing jobs to keep my family safe. June of this year I finally had the mental bandwidth to figure out what's going on with my electricity bill. We're paying about $150 in electricity and $150 in the solar panel loan so I figured something was up. Or maybe our higher usage meant we needed more panels. But the link to monitor my solar panels doesn't work. I emailed different people at 2nd Energy Solar where we originally got the panels installed: Jared and Dana, both of those emails were sent back to me. At first I thought maybe Jared and Dana didn't work there anymore. I went to the 2nd Energy site, and it's still there, but links are broken. But I try the info email anyway. It was also sent back to me too. Maybe the company went out of business? July, I did some digging and found out that, no, they changed their name to Value Solar Power. But when I went to the new site, it was down. And the new info email bounced back to me. I called and didn't get anyone. My husband left a message, and no one got back to him. By August I'm distraught because I'm paying for solar panels that I don't believe are working, so not knowing what to do next, I filed with the BBB (August 1st). August 3rd, Louisa (their customer service person) responded asking for info on my system, but because the site was still down, I wasn't sure whether or not I could trust what was going on. I ask some clarifying questions about why the site is parked and hesitantly share some info on my system. I did not get a response back. Aug. 6th I called the number listed under Louisa's signature to find out where the progress was and happened to get Louisa. She told me she was working on getting a technician to me but couldn't give me a date. I explained that everyday my system doesn't work, I'm losing money. She said she'd call to get me a tech and get back to me. As I started sharing my phone number with her so she could call me back, she hung up. Maybe she thought the conversation was over? Maybe she's dodging me? The BBB assumes that all complaints are handled if the concerned party (me) doesn't have a response in negative or positive after six days. August 10th came around, which passed the window and meant my complaint would be filed as resolved. I worried that perhaps Value Solar Power hadn't gotten back to me on purpose so the complaint would be filed as resolved. I hated the idea of my solar panels not getting fixed and the complaint being filed as resolved when I still didn't have the panels fixed or the link to prove they're working. So I called again, but this time the phone said they were closed (at 10am--weird). So I did the only thing I could think of and filed a negative response with the BBB. I brainstorm all the different ways Value Solar Power likely writes email addresses and put in various combinations of Jared, who I hoped was still the owner, letting them know that I still haven't gotten this resolved and giving a deadline of the end of the week. And because complaints seemed to have gotten attention before and I didn't know if the BBB had logged my complaint as resolved, I put reviews on a few sites. I assumed I wouldn't get any response and started calling other solar panel companies. One made an appointment with me to send out a technician the next day. Then Fernanda emailed me back, sharing that Value Solar Power is short staffed because of Covid and the website's been hacked, which is why it was down. She told me she was going to schedule a technician to come out and look at my system. August 11th - the other company's technician came out and told me I have two blown fuses but he would have to return to fix them. Fernanda emailed me again to let me know she's scheduled a technician to come to me tomorrow, so I shared that the fuses are blown, and it would be great if their guy brings that with him so it can get back online. I would stay far away from this company. Decent product but their CEO was incredibly unpleasant to talk with and constantly talked over me during our conversations. Poor interpersonal skills, to say the least. Furthermore, I was offended once I learned how they treated their employees. I would suggest going with ION Solar. read more
