I purchased my solar system from Longhorn Solar in April 2022. Unfortunately, my experience after the installation has been very disappointing. In August 2023, I needed a new roof and paid over $13,000 to have Longhorn Solar remove and reinstall my 37 solar panels. The panels were supposed to be cleaned before being reinstalled, but they were not. They were also reinstalled with the dirty side facing my front porch, which was very noticeable. On top of that, I had to wait approximately four weeks after my roof was completed before the panels were put back on. In May 2025, a connection issue caused my entire system to stop producing power. Because my system uses a single inverter, when one issue occurred, none of the panels worked. It took nearly two months to get the problem resolved, leaving me without solar production during that time. Now, in May 2026, the system has stopped working again. It has been almost three weeks, and I still do not have an appointment scheduled for repairs. It feels like customer service and system maintenance are not a priority once the sale is complete. I purchased 37 panels with the expectation that they would offset approximately 80% of my electric usage. That has never happened. I had previously been trying to go through the company who originally installed it, but they were not responsive at all. Living in Jarrell, we've experienced high winds and hail, and after a roofer noticed potential damage near our solar panel's penetration point, we called Longhorn Solar. I've been on edge since the Texas Icepocalypse of 2021, worried that another power grid failure was going to leave us without heat in the winter or without AC in the summer. I knew solar was an option back then, but I didn't learn about batteries until last year. Then it took months of research and coming to terms with buying a Tesla product to finally decide my house needed a solar solution. Longhorn Solar was one of five companies I spoke to and one of only two that I seriously considered going with. It was just luck that I spoke with Jameson at Longhorn Solar first because it set the bar high for the conversations with other vendors. Ultimately, I ordered some panels and Tesla Powerwalls, and after waiting a few weeks for the HOA to approve the install, the team was at my house putting the gear on the roof. Jameson went over the design with me and allowed me to tweak the placement of the panels and the batteries. Install took a day, and then it was more waiting on inspectors before the system could finally be turned on. Longhorn Solar took care of pretty much everything. They sent me documents to sign and submitted them on my behalf. Once the system was up and running, we went through a debrief and they helped me configure the app so I could see what the system was generating. I signed the installation contract with Longhorn Solar on June 28. It took only 43 days to get to a finished and working solution. During that time, the staff was communicative and friendly, and always let me know when the next event was. Now I'm watching my system sell energy back to the electric company while simultaneously feeding the house power from a giant ball of plasma 93 million miles away. It's a good feeling. I've already recommended Longhorn Solar to my neighbors, and though you should always reach out to multiple companies for an investment this large, you really can't go wrong with Longhorn. Anybody wanting to go Solar, do your homework. I got five quotes and did extensive research. I ended up going with Longhorn Solar and was really happy with the service they gave me. Once I got the Solar Panels in that was the extent of their customer service. The communication and customer service went downhill from there. When I got access to looking at the app and seeing what my Solar panels can do I found out they only gave me access to what my panels are producing and did not include what was being sent back to the grid vs what I was actually using. They wanted $550 more after already spending $51k to get access to that function. In addition to that, I found out I needed a new roof after some of the major storm we had this year. They gave me a quote pretty quickly and after I signed the contract the communication was sporadic at best. They did not communicate with the roofer and it was like pulling teeth to get any response. I finally got an appointment to get them removed and it took about 4 weeks for them to be reinstalled. The entire time there was no communication. I had to reach out to them to make sure they put me on the scheduled and still planned on coming. They charged $13k to remove and reinstall which included cleaning the panels. Once reinstalled I noticed some of my panels still had dirt on them. I called to have them come out to complete the job. It has been four weeks and I have still not heard back from them. Needless to say, I thought I had made a good choice, but now I am not so sure. I am beginning to wonder if they just get your business up front and that is where the customer service ends. As mentioned in other reviews, they have a major issue with communication, keeping commitments, and lack of professionalism. About a year and a half ago, I wanted to invest in batteries for my house. I reached out to them because they installed solar panels for me over 10 years ago, and I had a really good experience with them during the installation. After reviewing multiple quotes from different vendors, I decided to go with them, even though their quote was not the cheapest, thinking that I would get the same type of customer service as I did 10 years ago. Unfortunately, I was wrong in making that assumption. In the beginning, when sizing the batteries, I asked them to come out and assess the location for any potential issues with the battery installation and coding issues with the city since the house is on a hill. They assured me there would be no problems. I then waited for about a year before I received the batteries, which was probably due to supply and demand. However, I received no proactive communication from them during the process, and I had to reach out to them for a status update. The batteries finally arrived, but we ran into some sort of coding issue with the installation of meter panels between us and the city. Their crew looked at it multiple times and eventually decided to go with the original configuration, assuring me it would be code compliant. On inspection day, we found out their assumptions were wrong, and we did not pass inspection. Over the last several months, we came to an agreement that they believed would make the installation pass inspection, and they promised me they would schedule the re-inspection with the city, and the final move would be free of charge. This week, I received communication from them that not only had they not scheduled the re-inspection (it has been many months), but they are also going back on their promise. They specifically told me that the binding agreement is only the contract we signed initially, and I should forget about all commitments they made in other emails and texts, and they will now charge me for the work they told me would be free before. They refuse to work with me at all at this point. At this point, I cannot recommend them in good conscience. The reason I went with them initially is that I had a good experience with them 10+ years ago, but this time, the communication was disastrous, and the emails I am now receiving from them are arrogant and rude. Their sales team is pretty good in managing expectations, but their operations team is horrible. If anyone has a need for solar panels or batteries, you need to look elsewhere. Otherwise, you might end up spending more money than other vendors in town and not get the customer service you deserve. read more

They called me, quoted a reasonable price and said it would take about 2 weeks to get to me. They didn't call back for about 4 weeks. I had emailed, texted and called them in that time, never got a word back. After about 4 weeks, the called and set a date, but no one showed up, texted or called me, so I wasted the whole day waiting on them. The next day they called me back and said their truck had broken down, set another day. Again, stayed at home all day, no call, no text, no show. They called a couple of days later, no apology for wasting my time and I just told them to forget it. Terrible service. read more

Longhorn solar installed solar panels about 10 years ago. When stuff was working, it was working. They recently had to replace the inverter, which they did for free, as it was still in the first 10 years. I understand that stuff breaks, and appreciate that they replaced this thing. Here's where Longhorn Solar is so frustrating: communication. Emails are not answered, calls not returned. When they do reply, it can be slow, but once they are actively replying, they are quick to send someone out and follow up. Seems like a bad yelp review can speed up this process. :-/ read more

When we first started this process, we had gotten a few bids for our potential system and Longhorn had the lowest bid out of any of the other companies. The people at Longhorn are great. However, I do not recommend SolarEdge. I have a $300 water flow meter that informs me when it has lost power. SolarEdge has no notifications when the system is down and is quite a bit more expensive. Before you buy, ask how you will know if your system goes down. We had our solar panels installed and it went very well. We ordered the batteries at the same time and it has not gone as smooth. They installed the batteries 30+ days ago and attached them to the house which is step 1 of 3 steps before they will will work. The account manager for me never calls me. She committed to call me on Fridays with an update. I call every week for an update and she tells me she will call me on the following Friday. She never follows up and never remembers what stage my project is in. We were so excited to work with a local company and it has been very frustrating. read more

My initial installation went well. I felt like they were knowledgeable and honest. Ever since then, the communication and reliability has been terrible. A simple email or call rarely gets a response when I need service. I usually wait several days and email or call again. Usually I give up or wait several weeks to get a reply. Often they will not show up for appointments and do not bother to call to say they need to reschedule or will be late. Today, I even called to ask if they were still coming for an appointment after waiting 2 hours, I was told I would get a call back. They never got back to me. Unfortunately, the system that Longhorn Solar originally installed for me was made by SolarBridge. SolarBridge was bought out by another company. Soon afterwards my main inverter and control panel went bad, and the new Solar component manufacturer did not honor the 25 year warranty that I had with Solar Bridge. So, I had to replace 32 micro-inverters and the main unit at my own cost to keep my system going after just a few years. Longhorn Solar honored their 10 year labor warranty and installed the new components without charging me labor. I don't blame them for the loss, and I appreciate that they did install the new components without charging me labor. I guess I assumed that based on what happened to me, they would at the very least respond promptly to my issues, since good service was all they had left to offer. I have had other issues with them too. This includes their service crew incorrectly installing my system. I had them remove my system so I could redo my entire roof. We discussed having them reinstall the panels using a ballast system so that I would not need to drill holes in my new roof. The crew showed up and started working, I left for work and returned as they were finishing up. Even though they showed up with a huge pile of the ballast mounts, they just drilled into the roof instead and did not use the mounts. Both their internal communication and their communication with customers really needs to improve. I recommend you look elsewhere for solar installation and service. read more

Worst decision I have ever made. Not only do I still have an electric bill every month but this is now my 3rd or 4th system failure. And EVERY SINGLE TIME, I am the one who notices it and not them. I was told when I purchased that if it ever went out, they would be notified and would contact me to take care of things. Rarely can you reach anyone. I bought a new house with an existing solar array. They helped me figure out the brand and specs so that I could send those details to my energy company in order to start selling back the excess energy our house didn't use. No other company even responded to my requests since I was not trying to buy a new system. Our experience was overall fine. We got more information about available rebates than the other company we got a bid from, but the prices were comparable. We had a ground mount system installed and it seems to be working as expected. We did have to call them back for not filling in the trench properly. After a rain, we had a 200' ditch of almost a foot, where human or cattle could be injured. They came back out to fill it...filled half and wanted to be done. I had to point out the other half beyond the fence. They initially were going to install a "Sense" monitor, but said we did not have space on our box so put one on the array that we could not even read from the house. We got a new box and asked for the Sense. It took them weeks, poor communication, and then they installed and left without making sure it was functional. Basically the breakdown seems to be in the coordination/communication department. People would show up to work without notice. They would try to move up work dates without regard to other issues we were coordinating. There were just a number of annoyances that didn't have to exist if they had better management and communication. So while the work seems solid (time will tell), the overall experience was not great. I felt like once we wrote that last check, I could expect the bare minimum. read more

Had a great experience with those guys from start to finish. Logan was very thorough at explaining what could be done, gave us a lot of options. He was not pushy but kept answering all my questions (I had a lot...). Their team was also able to relocate a few vents in our roof so that we could get a full array of panels- looks way better than when some panels are missing due to vents. I contacted them about a problem with an inverter and was told to wait 48 hours for them to determine whether they or manufacturer can fix it remotely or to send someone to look at it in person. No follow up. 5 days later, I call again and they have no record of my case. This time they promised to get back to me in 24 hours. Another 4 days passed and now they don't even respond to my voicemail. It's been 2+ weeks with no power going to the house/grid and 10 days with no action on Longhorn Solar's part. Highly recommend longhorn solar! We were choosing between a couple different companies and they were the most responsive and had a really good working relationship with the city of Austin. They made the installation and financing processes smooth and easy. We've had our panels for about 4 years now and haven't had any issues with them. Purchase a solar system form this company toward the end of 2017. Since the middle of November of 2019 no electricity has been generated by the system, called Longhorn solar and they stated that the inverter needed to be replaced, they contact SolarEdge in California for a replacement. No further notification received until I called Jessica McNeal in Dec. 31st 2019 and she apologized for the delay due to holiday issues but no inverter was received. Finally I personally called SolarEdge and to my surprise the Inverted was received by Longhorn solar on 12/16/19 and they gave me the track number for verification which I did with Fedex. As of today January 11th they are not returning phone calls or e-mail, the manager Jeremy is always on a meeting. Ronnie answer the phone and her suggestion is to keep calling until someone call back. I encourage potential customer to keep this poor customer service experience in mind if they are in the market for a solar system. There are other customers with similar problems in Yelp and with complaints at the BBB. read more

Jimmy Hodges talked to me at Earth Day about getting solar, and I asked a few other companies to come out and give me quotes as well. After reviewing my site, not only did Jimmy respond first, but he let me know that I have too much shade over my roof and it wouldn't be worth it to install the panels. So, if they didn't actually do any work for me, why am I writing an excellent review? 1) When we talked, he completely explained the process, normal costs, type of evaluation they would do, types of panels, limitations set by the city, etc. I didn't think I needed that much information, but it turns out that all of that was relevant. 2) They set up a very prompt evaluation and I didn't even need to be at home. They responded days before anyone else, and he remembered me and my questions at Earth Day. That shows that he really cares about each person. 3) He gave me a totally honest evaluation (ie- it would take too many panels and be too expensive to make up my losses due to shade). Even though that means that he didn't make a profit, he saved ME a ton of time and money in the long run. TL;DR - Jimmy is a good dude. 10/10, would recommend. read more

We've had our new system for about a year, and so far we have produced about 15% more than expected, and our average electric bill has been -$15 per month (yes, that's negative). The sense monitor is working great, I love seeing how much energy each of our devices is using! Also, I didn't mention before that when we sold our previous home, according to our realtor we were able to get about a $10-15k premium on the home with the solar panels (the appraiser gave us $12k in value for the system), so even though we sold only 2 years after getting solar, we got our money back and more! read more

I started working with Longhorn Solar in December of 2014. I had selected three companies who install in San Antonio, TX and asked for quotes. Through this part of the process the salesman, Ian Smith, was always prompt to answer my questions and address any of my concerns. Although all three companies presented excellent information and competitive quotes, I selected Longhorn Solar because I felt they had my best interests at heart. Longhorn took care of all the paperwork with the electrical company. About the only thing I did was submit an architectural request to my Homeowner's Association. Installation began in mid-February of 2015 and was done in four days, two of which were rainy, so actual installation took two days. During this time, the workers took great care to answer any questions we had about placement of panels, operation of the breakers for the invertors, etc. They were also very diligent in cleaning up any work residue from the area when they finished. On the first week of March, the electric company finally commissioned the system and we were up and running! The lead installer and the salesman came back and made sure we understood how everything worked. About the only problem we've had is that one of the sensors that monitors power usage had been installed backwards, resulting in erroneous readings. One call to the company and an installer, who had been installing another system nearby, quickly came by and corrected the problem. Everything has been flawless ever since! read more
