In the last couple years we have had several extended power outages from hours to days and wanted a whole house backup solar solution. In 2022 Lighthouse sales was the most upfront of the companies we contacted. The location of our electrical panels on opposite sides of the house and the Austin Fire Dept rules (sadly they don't recognize that Li ion iron phosphate batteries (Enphase...) are safe indoors unlike Li ion NMC (Tesla...) which are prone to thermal runaway fires) made an installation that would meet our goals and Austin Fire rules difficult. A year later in 2023, Corey at lighthouse called us back and informed us that the new Enphase products allowed a reliable solution for us that fit with AFDs rules. This time we limited our bids to Enphase solutions. Once again Corey was the most professional of the sales people we delt with. Lighthouse's bid was competitive and we were given a substantial completion estimate of 6 to 8 weeks. I found our project manager Dale to be very responsive and the installation crew to be professional and on time. Our system was complete, producing power, and connected to PEC, exactly 8 weeks from the day our contract was signed. Kudos to Lighthouse and PEC for getting the whole job done in less time than I've heard just the utility permission to connect taking after the installation was completed. In the month since our system was commissioned we have had sunny and cloudy days, weather alerts, and even a brief grid outage. Our system has performed just as we were lead to expect. Prompt service and clear explanation as to why we had an electric arc message in our inverter. Problem was repaired within two hours.

I looked on Yelp for help in finding someone to repair our solar which is 13+ years old (we've lost the paperwork). It looks like our system failed May 2024 and hadn't been generating any electric from our solar panels and we didn't notice until recently. They came over for a non-refundable fee and diagnosed the issue: fried junction box and 1 or 2 inverters dead. The impressive thing about Lighthouse was they didn't jump immediately into "upselling" us. They didn't offer to replace/improve/add to our existing solar setup. In fact they started asking for serial numbers to see if the dead inverters were still under warranty. And when we figured they weren't, they offered two choices. One where they fixed the junction and provided 2 brand new inverters. And the second choice was the junction fix and two USED inverters - literally cutting the price in half. And then they said that once they fixed the junction, they would bring out two (used) inverters and if only one was dead, they would only replace that dead inverter with a used inverter. Turns out that's exactly what happened. So the original price went from $4800(new) to $2400(used) to $1800(one replaced). Very happy with the interaction with Alexis. We moved in to this house back in late 2021; while the location and features in the house checked off all our boxes, the solar array was icing on the cake. After transferring ownership from the previous owners, we found that we would need a technician to check on the Envoy, which would not activate. Chris was very professional, helpful, and respectful. He diagnosed the issue as faulty fuses. Oh great, I thought. A $200 service call over some $20 fuses! However, Chris decided to change the settings to go fuse-less, and returned to Austin. They installed my solar panels a couple of years ago. Recently, one of the optimizers failed and my inverter reported that only 18 of the 19 panels were generating electricity. I called the lighthouse folks and they came out a week later and isolated the problem. Another week later, they popped round and in about an hour had the optimizer replaced and the system is humming along great. So nice that they stand behind their work. thanks guys! Update. Had a great experience with Lighthouse. They were extremely responsive to all my questions and did a great job adjusting the bid to all of my change requests. Once we decided on a system, the process moved very quickly. We secured financing at 2.9 percent. The installation was seamless. They kept me informed throughout the entire process. There were a couple of minor glitches, mostly due to miscommunication and my lack of understanding. When I raised my concerns, they were immediately addressed. The system has been running since October my electric bills are 1/3 of what they used to be. This was my second time purchasing Solar panels. I purchased a 9.5KW system 5 years ago and loved it. My system this time is nearly 15Kw. I went with a different company last time and was very happy with them. But this time I no longer live in Austin and there no incentives from the City, so price became a much bigger factor. Last time nearly 1/3 of the system cost was subsidized by Austin Energy. I think the other guys may have a slightly better product, but for a 22% price premium, I couldn't justify the additional expense for marginally better technology. I have lots of roof space, so slightly smaller panels were not a big selling point. Both systems came with a 25-year warranty. I Loved Lighthouse and highly recommend them. read more

I'm very disappointed at the interaction I just had with a Lighthouse sales person this morning. I called them since Tesla has them listed as a Certified Installer of their Powerwall products on their website. When I told the salesman I wanted a Powerwall installed without solar as a home backup battery only, he said that wasn't possible. "You have to have solar installed with it." I told him it was possible per Tesla's website (https://www.tesla.com/support/energy/powerwall/learn/how-powerwall-works) and he immediately got defensive and stated they, nor "any other company in Austin would install a Tesla Powerwall without solar." He then hung up on me. Hmm, I guess we'll see. Maybe someone didn't take their meds this morning but I was expecting a far better interaction with a company rated this highly on Yelp. So, if you're looking for a Tesla Powerwall WITHOUT SOLAR, the fine folks at Lighthouse are a bit sensitive they won't get to sell you a solar array with it. read more

If you're shopping around for solar panels, let me save you a lot of time and just recommend you go with Lighthouse Solar. My wife and I have always known solar panels were for us and we've went to the Pedernales Electric Cooperative's solar tour for the past 3 years. We definitely wanted to take advantage of the 30% federal tax rebate so in late 2017 we decided to have 5 different companies come out (again) and give proposals both for our roof, on the ground, and potentially building a large carport. We were shooting for 110% of our power being covered by panels. On a side note, Lighthouse Solar was the only company out of all the major names in Austin that would actually build the carport and do the solar panels. We thought about the carport option because we saw a house during the PEC solar tour that had a huge outdoor patio, made out of steel, with the roof being completely made of solar panels, that was put in place by Lighthouse Solar. It looked amazing. In the end, we were able to get the 110%+ generation from our roof and decided to spend extra money on newer panels and microinverters to have a cutting edge system and to go over 110% rather than spending the money on the carport structure. That's another great thing about Lighthouse Solar--they aren't tied into just one brand or technology. They will work to come up with the absolute best design and system for your house. We went back and forth with different options at least 4-5 times. From the installation crews, to master electricians, to people in the office, to handling all of the paperwork and process of Pedernales, everything was performed with professionalism and the quality is top-notch. The Pedernales electrician who came out to inspect the installation, prior to firing it up, even stated, "Lighthouse has been doing this a long time. They do a quality job." We can now monitor every single panel on our house, anytime, anywhere, and see how much power they're generating. So back to those quotes from different companies...no one came close to Lighthouse Solar. We could have honestly have paid $50k more with another company for the exact same system. The prices and quality of the systems (string inverters to microinverters, lesser-quality panels, etc) ranged dramatically among the 5 companies but no one was close to Lighthouse Solar. We got a top-of-the-line system for several grand cheaper than the next company, who was selling an inferior system for a higher price. Lighthouse says they can do it because they don't spend much on marketing and they also don't have a sales person come to your house with a big sales pitch, folders, and flyers. My husband and I had a great experience with Lighthouse. Firstly, they quoted us a great price with excellent panel quality. I was also happy to find out they install for TreeHouse, which typically uses high-quality installers. I also really liked their included monitoring software, which allows you to see both solar production and home consumption real time (an excellent tool for improving efficiency.) Lighthouse drafted a great design and was able to maximize my available roof space. In fact, Jay was willing to adjust the design and the number of panels multiple times until the power output vs. cost was exactly what I wanted. Jay is an excellent point person, in general. Doing large project management can be a real hassle. And I generally expect 1 million things to go wrong. If you add to that the fact that solar installation requires tight coordination with the city of Austin, then you can really have a nightmare. Having said that I don't think I've ever seen project completion and coordination as good as with these folks. First, they gave me a sane proposal. When I sat on it for months and months they revised it with newer equipment and actually a lower price since some of the equipment was now cheaper, and then installed it in just a few days. Really impressive. Dixie was the one who made up the plans and Dale was the project manager. Today was the hook up day, and when I called Dale to tell him I was home, he came in minutes to walk me through the system. Impressive group! I also got a quote from Momentum Solar which is a national outfit that sends a bit of a cheesy high-pressure salesman to your place. That was both annoying and uncomfortable. Also the prices were significantly higher than Lighthouse. Great example of where the local "little guy" (they're not that little actually) totally won over the national outfit with a bunch of local subcontractors, at least for me. read more

Did a large solar project on a standing seam metal roof. Lighthouse built trusses to get the proper angle to the sun and rebates from Austin Energy. Ran into a hiccup on the first day of installation where we had a miscommunication about which side of our house is the front (corner lot.) Lighthouse moved the trusses they installed for us to a place on the roof where they wouldn't be visible from our backyard (front yard... see, it is confusing.) The installation process used clamps to keep the integrity of our roof which was the number one concern. Solar has been up and running for half a month now and we've been through 60mph wind gusts with no problems. Lighthouse provides a website to monitor usage which is nice and so far we are getting great results. We use more than average due to being an all electric house with a pool and we generate 50% of our power from solar in total... and it has been a cloudy March. During a sunny day we make far more than we use and it tends to even up in mornings and afternoons, leaving night to get the deficit. Expecting to get around 70% of our power in summer and full payoff in 6 years. Most households with enough roof space could get 100%, but like I said, we use a lot so this helps. Total cost before rebates was very close to what we expected and with rebates and tax credits we feel like we robbed the taxpayers... sorry everyone. I'm against subsidies... but smoke em if you got em. Would recommend to anyone in Austin. Great to work with and we have room to add to this system so we might call them up again down the line. read more

We had our solar installation done about two years ago and it has worked fine. However the installation was done poorly and when the wind picked up it flipped the entire structure over ontop of my home. The company told me to call MY insurance company if there was any damages to the roof. They did come.out and reattach it with a different configuration, however the wind has picked up again and the structure is banging away because it was not attached properly AGAIN. if I move I will not use this company again. read more

Best offer out of 4 we received. And the most honest out of the 4. The other 3 added the 30% tax credit before all discounts and incentives (to make it look even more appealing), which is plain wrong and can get you in trouble with the IRS if you claim the 30% on the gross costs (before discounts and incentives). Lighthouse came out, took measurements and send me the design for approval by the HOA. They also helped me to actually get the most efficient system design approved (which included panels on the front side of the house, what the HOA try's to prevent). They took care of all licenses and were always quick in response for any questions I had. The other 3 quotes were $5k and more expensive than Lighthouse and the others included some fancy fantasy discounts to make it look like the most awesome deal... We have no regrets going with Lighthouse Solar as well as lots of my neighbors. Now a year after installation I can confirm that the promised system output is accurate, actually more than promised and we saved a lot the first year. I still had some questions about the monitoring system and got prompt support from their Engineer Jeff (on a Sunday! Sorry Jeff :-) ). I don't write many reviews and for this one I took my time (sorry Lighthouse) because I wanted to see how it goes after the one year and how the support is after buying the system. They installed 21 panels of solar in Feb 2013, we had a problem in 2017 with the Lightguage monitor which was resolved by replacing the Envoy unit. Another problem with two Enphase units was detected by our Enphase Enlighten monitor in August 2018. Jeff Bendall, Lighthouse service manager, worked the problem and determined the two Enphase units were faulty, ordered new units and had his crew(Cory) replace them. Good Job! We used Lighthouse for the installation of the initial 21 units and another 12 in 2015 and are satisfied overall with this company's service.
