Old, fried junction. We thought it was rust. But it was scorch from arc'ing

I looked on Yelp for help in finding someone to repair our solar which is 13+ years old (we've lost the paperwork). It looks like our system failed May 2024 and hadn't been generating any electric from our solar panels and we didn't notice until recently. They came over for a non-refundable fee and diagnosed the issue: fried junction box and 1 or 2 inverters dead. The impressive thing about Lighthouse was they didn't jump immediately into "upselling" us. They didn't offer to replace/improve/add to our existing solar setup. In fact they started asking for serial numbers to see if the dead inverters were still under warranty. And when we figured they weren't, they offered two choices. One where they fixed the junction and provided 2 brand new inverters. And the second choice was the junction fix and two USED inverters - literally cutting the price in half. And then they said that once they fixed the junction, they would bring out two (used) inverters and if only one was dead, they would only replace that dead inverter with a used inverter. Turns out that's exactly what happened. So the original price went from $4800(new) to $2400(used) to $1800(one replaced). Very happy with the interaction with Alexis. Knowledgeable about the technical questions to ask me over the phone before and during the fix. Pictures are of the fried junction box and their fix.

Great Follow-Up Service - After two years I had some of my panels quit reporting. I reached out and they sent someone out the next day. Brad spent 2 hours on my roof and said it would be covered under their workmanship warranty. I will continue to refer these guys out as they seem to stand by their work!

Had a great experience with Lighthouse. They were extremely responsive to all my questions and did a great job adjusting the bid to all of my change requests. Once we decided on a system, the process moved very quickly. We secured financing at 2.9 percent. The installation was seamless. They kept me informed throughout the entire process. There were a couple of minor glitches, mostly due to miscommunication and my lack of understanding. When I raised my concerns, they were immediately addressed. The system has been running since October my electric bills are 1/3 of what they used to be. This was my second time purchasing Solar panels. I purchased a 9.5KW system 5 years ago and loved it. My system this time is nearly 15Kw. I went with a different company last time and was very happy with them. But this time I no longer live in Austin and there no incentives from the City, so price became a much bigger factor. Last time nearly 1/3 of the system cost was subsidized by Austin Energy. I think the other guys may have a slightly better product, but for a 22% price premium, I couldn't justify the additional expense for marginally better technology. I have lots of roof space, so slightly smaller panels were not a big selling point. Both systems came with a 25-year warranty. I Loved Lighthouse and highly recommend them.

Upgraded electrical panel installed by Mater Electrician (for record to show before/after once solar is integrated).

Spoke directly with the CEO, Stan Pipkin, and had one of the best conversations encompassing my project and the industry at large. While there was a communication lapse, overall, I'm extremely pleased with Lighthouse Solar. They stand behind their work, extremely transparent, and unabashedly open to critique on where they can improve their process with regard to customer relations. You would be doing yourself a huge disfavor if you don't at the very least get an estimate from Lighthouse for your solar project.

Ask the Community - Lighthouse Solar

Can you tell me what country manufacturers the panels? we live in Hutto. Williamson co. what credits are still available?

Randall, Thanks for the question. We source panels that are made in the US. LG, QCells, Mission and Lumos all have manufacturing facilities in the US that provide our products. Stan Pipkin, Owner.

Since my system is aprox 5 years old should I have y'all come out to inspect it and make sure everything is running optimally?

We did our installation in 2022 and have seen our energy bills lower than ever before! (We have some shade on our roof so we didn't do the full roof, ~20 panels or so, but it worked out well.) They did the rebate work with the city so our out-of-pocket cost wasn't exorbitant at all. Our household also recently purchased a second electric vehicle so we contacted 512 Solar again, this time for a level 2 charger installation. Once again, 512 Solar was excellent at getting our quote together, suggesting two hardwired chargers that the city does rebates on, and actually getting the work done as well. We have to do the final step with submitting the rebate paperwork to the city, I believe, but that's small beans compared to all the work that JP and Huiyun did for us at the outset. Really happy we went with these folks and will continue to recommend their business!

Freedom Power team --…read more THANK YOU! Our system is the best advertisement you -- and Tesla -- could ask for. Our propane-generator neighbors are genuinely envious. There is no comparison. STORM TEST. Tesla installed our original Powerwall last March and Freedom Power added the extension battery this week -- two batteries now. Within hours of finishing, an electrical storm subjected the neighborhood to several hours of brownouts and blackouts. A few grow-lights flickered briefly. None of the clocks needed resetting. No noticeable latency -- Wi-Fi and everything else just stayed up. Except for the lightning and thunderclaps, we hardly noticed the storm. Rate math (FPL RTR-1 Time-of-Use). On-peak grid power runs about 29¢/kWh. Off-peak is about 6-8¢/kWh, and off-peak includes a real credit, not just a smaller charge. PRE-EXTENSION PACK. On our latest bill (1,671 kWh): only 61 kWh on-peak (3.7%) and 1,610 off-peak. The TOU structure saved us roughly $67 (July) versus the same usage with no off-peak credit. Every peak kWh we avoid is worth about 21¢ against off-peak. YESTERDAY'S LOAD TEST. Stove, hairdryer, showers, Instant Pot, TVs, computers, and air conditioning at 77°F -- and we still had 31% battery left at 9 PM, the end of the summer peak window. Under the single Powerwall we often scraped the last two hours and leaked expensive peak kWh. With the second battery, we held the whole peak on reserve with room to spare. When Elon offers vehicle-to-home (V2H) power-sharing in something nicer than the Cybertruck (wife hates the look), we'll add that to the backup stack. Solar roof tiles still feel like overkill for us -- but you've earned enough trust that we might change our minds. I already have one referral in the tunnel. I'll let you know when it lands. Our thanks to Joshua Leathers and the entire team at Freedom Solar Power for their performance and professionalism. Despite reaching out to him numerous times via email and phone, I have yet to receive a single response to my inquiries. This marks the fifth email I've sent, and my attempts to reach him by phone have also gone without any acknowledgment. It's difficult to comprehend how someone like Alfredo could be employed in a position that requires customer interaction. His behavior reflects poorly on the company, as it comes across as unprofessional and neglectful. As a new homeowner, I have several important questions, particularly regarding the usage of the mobile app and other related topics. However, Alfredo has failed to address any of these queries. When he does finally respond, his answers are unrelated to my original questions, which only adds to my frustration. Given this ongoing issue, I feel compelled to share my experience and will continue to post reviews on platforms like Google and Yelp to ensure that upper management is aware of the lack of support and professionalism I have encountered. When I checked the App it was showing that no electricity was being produced. I called them and they said to stop the system and restart, which I did. But this kept happening day after day. It would power up in the morning, but after an hour or so it would go back to GFC error with no power being produced. They went ahead and opened a Jira Ticket. I called back several times over the next couple of months asking for an update. Each time they said they're still waiting for a local technician to look at it. Then I called again and they said they closed the ticket because it was solved. Maybe to them, but not to me. But at least I could still see on the app that it was or was not producing power until I couldn't. So I went ahead and called them back and they had me open the box that contained the internet device and it had no power. So I had the outdoor GFC outlet replaced (that the original contractor had installed). This not only fixed the no power to the internet device issue, but also the GFC error, until about two weeks ago (June 2026). I'm back to the system powering up in the morning, then logging a GFC error within an hour or so. So I called Sunstrong and they said I need to monitor the system multiple times every day in the morning to see if it powers up and later on to see if it errors out. I asked "Chris" at what point does Sunstrong "own" the system since I lease it, because I had to have the GFC replaced, he said I shouldn't have had that done. All I can say is there's no hope except in about 6 more years my lease is over. I wish Sunpower would have gone completely bankrupt so that my system would either be mine or non-existent. Either is a better solution than this "management" company. If you're considering getting a new system through this company, look elsewhere. Update: happened again today. While SunStrong is made whole as they get paid no matter what, I can't even leave my home. Added pics.
