We selected a paint color for our bedroom that was in the bedding, sort of a greenish blue. The paint chip was a good match/complement to the bedding. However, when we painted a patch on the wall, the paint was too bright and we knew we couldn't sleep with the color that bright in the room. We took the paint back to Valu Home Center in North Tonawanda, NY, fully expecting that we'd have to find another color. First, however, we asked if the store clerk could try to darken the paint. He helped us select a new color closer to what we wanted, compared the formulas on the two, and darkened the paint for us. He was very cautious to add only a little of each color so as not to make it too dark, so experimented with it and did 3 rounds of color adding to get it just right. He mixed it in the same can and printed a label for the new formula for us. He really went above and beyond to help us.
Mitch is the Valu individual who helped us. He was incredibly patient, kind, talkative and professional. I'd be willing to bet he's only about 20-22 years old and he's worked there 3-4 years so has learned a lot along the way. Mitch's parents can be proud of the son they raised and Valu should recognize what an asset Mitch is to the store.
We love Valu - I saw someone's review and they said Valu won't have everything that a Home Depot or Lowe's does but what they do have is excellent customer service and I concur!
Thanks again, Mitch! read more
