"You c'ain't keep doin' that!" said VANESSA. Sigh, here's my run in with the mean lady at the Hampden post office. I went to the Hampden location to pick up my held mail, and informed Vanessa that I would need to submit another hold mail request within the next few days. Vanessa's head spun, she did some kind of magical wave with her hand and shouted, "You c'ain't keep doin' that!" I was as at a loss for words. I was floored...this woman took rude, ignorant and unprofessional to another level. I asked to speak to the supervisor who concurred that..."you cain't keep doin' that" because they are in the business to make money and that I would need to purchase a PO box. Huh? However, when I explained that I was on an emergency deployment, she agreed to hold my mail as a courtesy. I opted not to because I was extremely upset, and I hightailed it out of crazy-land. I called customer service for clarification of the USPS mail hold policy and he...wait for it...agreed with Vanessa and her supervisor that "you c'ain't keep doin' that." So, apparently it's totally left to the discretion of the post master how often one can request a mail hold. How will I know when I've reached my mail hold limit? Why isn't there a written policy? One star is for the packages that have all arrived at their destination & the other is for them arriving on time. However, this location is not for the tender-hearted as the staff generally does not seem to like humans( or is deeply depressed/ jaded/grieving... Or have personality disorders) I'm always looking for hidden cameras because the misery with which I have witnessed people get dealt with is like a blooper show or the Dave Chappelle Show Kinko's sketch of the Key & Perle flight attendant sketches. Apparently the whole place closes for lunch in the afternoon. Stopped by at around 1:30 to mail a package...lights out, nobody home. A sign on the door woulda been nice. No signage anywhere that would indicate they shut the whole place down in the afternoon. read more

I cannot outright say they steal my stuff there but we only get about 4 out of 5 of our packages. They will do nothing to help. The Postmaster will promise to look into a complaint and take your phone number and never call. Definitely a fishy operation. I try to get all my deliveries UPS or FedEx. Some shippers just can't comply. read more

0 star for sure!! One of my German friend said that they are completely unfriendly. I went there for picking up a package which was not delivered on time. One of the staff members was extremely rude and just simply not willing to look for my package. In my opinion, this place definitely needs to be improved tremendously in order to fit into our nice Hampden Neighborhood. read more

Is it possible to give zero or negative stars? Cause that's what this place deserves. The older woman in there is one of the most unfriendly, nasty, viciously rude people I have ever met. To the point where I am so uncomfortable going there, and I leave wondering if she is going to throw out my packages or not. I have no clue how she is still employed. I believe her name is Vanessa. If I could give them zero stars I would. I got there at 1 o'clock - just before they closed for lunch. I tried asking a question and the lady was incredible rude. She proceeded to close the door in my face. It doesnt take anything to stop and acknowledge a simple question. She said one word to me and proceeded to close the door while I was still talking. I'm shocked at the basic lack of customer service training that Baltimore city postal workers possess. Apparently, I am not alone after seeing these other reviews. The Hampden PO is conveniently located, offers parking, and has a number of pleasant representatives. Unfortunately, as many of the other reviewers note, Ms. Vanessa tends to be impatient, unpleasant, and in large measure simply rude. She may not intend to be so, but she tends to be dismissive if a question falls outside her purview and seems unwilling to offer additional guidance or assistance. It must be tiresome to interact with so many individuals who themselves may not always be in a pleasant mood. Nonetheless, Ms. Vanessa is a representative of the Federal Government, and as a visible part of her position is to provide a service and a face for a larger institution, her discourteous and at times careless attitude places a negative shadow across the Hampden Post Office. read more

Even though I am certain no one at the Hampden office will ever read this, I am using this review as a method of catharsis. Ms. Vanessa makes me miserable. Literally makes me depressed. I walk out of there feeling sad and as if I've been slapped in the face. Ms Vanessa is rude, curt, purposefully unhelpful, and generally treats me (and others) as if we are the scum of the earth not deserving of any help or courtesy. I try sometimes to be kind to her, to smile, to make a joke. Today I said, "Oh boy, you are always so serious" and she shot back at me, "THIS IS A BUSINESS." I really wish I had a flip response to that, but instead I meekly left, totally intimidated. I also asked her when the PO Box clerk would be there to help me, and she said "How would I know?" Ok, do you or do you not work here? Can you really not just ASK SOMEONE? Another time I had a problem with my mail, and asked her a pretty simple question about mail forwarding. She basically flipped me off for that. I countered with a plaintive "But you're the post office! You're supposed to know how to help me with this!" The result was essentially "Yeah you're out of luck." Ugh. She ruins my day every time. Every. Time. Always. read more

"Eek! Methinks not." is not exactly how I'd describe the sentiment. USPS has failed to deliver the last 5 packages shipped to our house in Hampden. The tracking always describes these packages as "Delivered", but I've been at the house at all of the recorded delivery times and not only were they not delivered, no postman ever came to the door during those times. After the first 3 went missing, I went to this post office to request that they hold all future packages there for pickup. Someone introducing themselves as the manager told me they'd send a pink slip to our house when they received the package so I would know to come and get it. After 2 additional packages were marked delivered, with no pink slip or notification of any kind, I returned to the office to inquire about where my items were. They had no record of my request, and the person I originally spoke to was apparently A) not a manager and B) no longer employed by this office. They told me there was no paperwork to fill out to request packages be held on the premises, that the whole system was conducted via "word of mouth" between the people at the office and the carrier. If this is true, which I doubt, it would explain why the system doesn't work. They could not locate my items despite having a "tracking system that could locate them by coordinates" in the back, and again promised to tell the carrier not to deliver packages to our house but offered no way to record that I'd made this request. I insisted on writing out these instructions, getting a copy, and having all this so-called documentation stamped with their official seal, but we'll how well this holds up on Tuesday when I have to return to talk to the actual manager. Of course, since the items were marked "Delivered", the USPS does not hold itself accountable for these items, even though it's clear they weren't really delivered and probably never will be. This also makes it impossible to be compensated for the items by the senders since all records indicate they were delivered. Since there's no record of my original request to not have packages brought to the house, there's no way to show they ignored my instructions and lost my items anyway. So, there's a few hundred dollars lost. I'd say use UPS or FedEx, but obviously if someone is sending you something that's at their discretion. Reviewing a post office is inherently futile since it's not like everyone living in 21211 can just switch offices. Maybe just stop trying to receive mail, since it'll never be delivered anyway. read more

I don't think that I've ever gone to this post office and had a pleasant experience. Vanessa was SO rude today and was not helpful at all. The customer service is terrible and the staff always look miserable and avoidant of any pleasant interaction. A little customer service could go a really long way. This is the most chronically understaffed post office in the nation, I am sure of it. They also are open at the weirdest hours and are closed for 1 hour and 45 minutes for lunch. There is always a massive line. The staff are surly, and I would be too if I were in their shoes-- because every person in line is a total d*ck by the time they get to the counter after a 25-30 minute wait. I am a college student without a car, so I scheduled a passport appointment at his facility because it was in the safest neighborhood and I thought I could walk there. So I made the appointment and took off work to go, and walked the 1.4 miles in the Baltimore heat to get there, and when I showed up right on time I was told quite rudely that there was "nobody there to assist me" and that I should just "go to the Columbia office if I don't like it." Horribly disappointed by how inconsiderate the people who work there are. Just thankful I'm not one of them. read more

I pay 2 day shipping for a package that gets in after a week. The shipping status says my package is waiting in the post office, I pay another $12 so I can intercept the package at the post office and not have to wait another 4 days to get it. I go there they say it is there but they said it would be to difficult to look through the 300 packages that came in (isn't that what the $12 fee was for?). They also say that they don't do intercept (then why let me pay the $12) after they provide no help, I ask for a refund on the fee I paid, to which they respond they don't know how and I have to figure that out on my own. I wanted to hand over a prepaid package and they yelled that they were on lunch break. One of the employees came out, and I thought she was going to take my package. She turned her back to me, locked the door, and told me, again, that they were closed for lunch. The lack of civility was startling; it showed a lack of graciousness and/or generosity of spirit. read more

Absolutely appalling service. An older woman working the front desk was unbelievably rude to everyone especially two young Asians. She outright told them to learn English when they didn't know where a customs form was. Very sad to see this happen to someone that is just asking for help. read more

They're all lazy misinformed and not willing to help customers. I came in to the store with a peach slip on 2/20/2018 which means that I have a package that I need to either pick up or have redelivered. The slip said that I owed $10. I went into the post office. First they said that they did not find any package for me. Then they said that the tracking number on my package was from January. Then they said that they don't know why I was being charged. Finally, they came back and said that the peach slip was delivered to the wrong address. The girl said that I could keep the slip if I wanted to but that it was not meant to be sent to me. Which doesn't make sense because my whole name was on the peach slip, so how is it going to be the wrong address? Did you ladies just not want to be bothered? Because it is 2/23/2018 and I have received another peach slip, this one is a final notice. Same tracking number. This is unprofessional and a waste of my time. This post office is a joke. Honestly if I go to a Burger King and the service is horrible EVERY time I go, I would not go back to the location. It's the same with the post office. There are SEVERAL.If for any reason, you are forced to use this location only please complain to the right people. No one is expected to know everything about mailing before you go in but certain things are common sense and yes you do have to READ to understand some things! To complain about not having pens or free tape is absurd!! USPS is a business that makes money through mailing service and products. If you are not using the service for the free tape you CANNOT USE THE FREE TAPE. If you know you are coming in to mail something, you should have a pen or have your items addressed!! Do not expect postal workers to do EVERYTHING you could have done ahead of time because then you will really complain about the wait in line. Aside from the unprofessional attitude from one lady, these ladies are doing the job they were trained to do. If you like another post office better, go there.
