Great service here! Never had an issue! The place may be a bit small, but there may be a line even on the weekdays. But, honestly it is not too bad. It goes by pretty quickly. The staff here are always nice and friendly, and the whole process is smooth from start to finish. They don't try to rush you or have you step aside to finish filling out any forms. I do appreciate that because sometimes you just forget what forms you need to fill out or you just don't know. And the staff are helpful in assisting you with that. Can't say enough bad things about my visit, there,1 young female employee waiting on a person, 1 person waiting to be next,1 person at far end of counter filling out forms, 1 person standing behind that person, and not moving past her even though there was at least 8-10 feet away and lots of space,so i went by to get in line.When lady just standing yells out I cut the line,I made sure I heard right and said what did you say,you heard me she said,she was far away,remember,so we were shouting,i said when i fill out forms at counter I don't expect people to wait,I expect them to move on past me,besides she wasn;t the one filling out the form just decided she were stir up trouble, then employee yells at me w/ so much hate I had never seen to SHUT UP really loud? the other lady smirking at me,and I said are you happy lady?She said ok lady, The employee then yelled and pointed at me and said GET OUT W/ hate in her eyes, I asked why she was envolved I was not talking to her, she said because the lady was is elderly, I exploded and said I am 70,..I walked out but the way she screamed at me was uncalled for and rude, before i left I asked her name, she would not give it, I asked to speak to her manager, she would not get him/her..The worst experience from USPS for me and my age which I must not have looked because she did not consider me elderly,too. read more

Small post office in the middle of the cute downtown area. Parking can be limited due to all of the shops nearby. 2 hour parking max if you do snag a spot. I dropped by on a weekday at 9:50 am and was in and out. Very clean inside space and all employees were masked and organizing during their down time. read more

I've never reviewed a post office before, but the US Post Office in Los Altos needs some love. The folks that work here are kind, friendly, and always helping their customers get their packages to their loved ones or businesses. When I go to the post office, even when the line is long, I look forward to the conversation with employees. At other post offices, I can feel the tension between employees and customers. I love the staff here and wanted to put a few things in perspective. I like to think of the saying "treat people how you want to be treated." Whenever I'm here I remember to be polite and kind to the staff because they are doing their best and they have always been kind to me because we share mutual respect for each other. Lines are slow but this is a post office and most of the people who don't come often have a lot of questions. The staff takes time with every individual. You can always tell when there are people who come all the time because we are super efficient which makes the staff efficient. Still, the staff is always very explanatory and helpful to everyone. Honestly, I've seen a lot of customers take their day out on the staff here which is never warranted. Please take the time to be kind. This place is three stars, if you've plenty of time to kill; it's two stars, if you're wanting a more brisk-paced experience. I suspect the woman helping me might not be used to folk being friendly and seemed a bit wary as I approached, smile on face. I wanted to buy a book of stamps & she apologised for not having 'enough' Forever stamps in stock. I thought she meant she was completely sold out, but actually she meant she only had four different motifs to choose from. From sports figures to exotic blooms, the selection was more than I expected. Apropos stamps, they were out of another stamp I'd requested, but, she told me, that they expected the shipment to arrive later in the day. I thought that that was helpful of her to mention it. As mentioned in previous reviews, the pace of this post office is super leisurely. There are scads of retirees with packages to mail in this town! read more

They always have postcard stamps when I need them, which is often because I write GOTV postcards via postcardstovoters.org a lot. They are friendly and helpful. Only downside is sometimes longer lines but that could be any post office. read more

I found the post office people helpful and personable. The mail delivery person is questionable. Today, the mail truck came in at 6pm with the radio in full capacity and the truck was backing up and going forward at high speed in our front yard. For being smack dab in the center of downtown Los Altos I don't think there's ever been more than 2 people in line anytime I've gone here. Super friendly staff, large selection of shipping supplies for such a small location. Maybe I just have great timing because I have not encountered most of the problems other people have mentioned in other reviews, or maybe I'm more patient. I brought a box to them to ship on a Friday. The box used to contain alcohol, but I brought it in unsealed to show them it didn't, specifically saying that to the employee. I then sealed it in front of them, they accepted it, and took my $29.11. It was returned it to me the next day with a sticker saying that the alcohol labelling made it ineligible to send. Unfortunately, I was about to leave town, and they were closed on Saturday, so I repacked it and sent it via UPS. Today, after my trip, I brought the box in to get a refund, since they knowingly accepted a box labeled alcohol, and that was their mistake. They refused to refund my money. This post office is not my favorite, but is the closest. This one needs a Self Mailing machine like Mt. View so you do not have to get stuck in line. If you have a large package (cannot fit in standard blue PO that are in the streets) and it is after hours there are no slots to accomodate your package. Don't bother calling the PO for any kind of help bc no one ever picks up. Even if I need help I've learned not to call. One time I needed help locating a signed letter and they said they would call me and never did. First time I came here there was only one worker, clearly stressed, and it was horrible service, but recently it's improving and now there are 2 new guys. Sometimes the workers are selective to how super friendly they are, but usually cordial to all. The lines can get long so I recommend coming at different times to find sweet spot bc there may be no line! read more

I didn't think I could find a post office that's more inefficient and slow-moving than the Marina one on Lombard, but clearly I was wrong. Mostly there's just 1 person working. If you're lucky, there will be two people staffing it (usually during the lunch rush). HOWEVER, both of them aren't super efficient, and they take their time letting customers decide what they want (DO YOU WANT STAMPS OR NOT?!). Please, by all means, joke with the people around you about how cool the brand new $100 bill is. None of us need to be anywhere or do anything. Clearly the people who go to this branch are either retired or have lax jobs where they can take their sweet time. They like to chat with the postal workers, spend 15 minutes trying to decide which way they want to ship, and what design of stamps they want. Like, yes, it's nice that they don't rush you, but when there are 8 people in line, you need to tell your customers to step aside to decide, and help the people who are ready to go. PLEASE install one of those self-service kiosks so we can all just mail our packages in peace? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE. Awful. AWFUL. read more

Another epic fail for the post office. It is hard to rally for USPS when they keep losing my packages. Sent a package via Fed Ex to the post office to deliver to a PO box. Confirmed that they would accepts it and confirmed the correct address. Per Fed Ex it was delivered. Post office does not have it. read more

I like this post office. Everyone is very cordial and helpful. I have never had a bad experience and the wait isn't ever too long when the employees are so pleasant. I come here almost monthly to send packages and mail. I'm not that popular, it's the same people I send stuff to every time. The place is quite small overall and not more than 10 people can wait in line without having to wait outside the door. It's clean and always well stocked with boxes and packing materials though, which is extra nice during holidays. Seriously though, the service here is great. I love all the employees here. In comparison to the monstrosity that is the Mountain View Post Office in downtown, this is a polar opposite. Even though the Mountain View one is closer to me, I would drive here for all my postal needs. Parking can be terrible depending on the time you arrive in downtown Los Altos, but it's a small price to pay for excellent postal service. read more

A post office is a post office. Line was pretty long, and there were only two people working the counter, but they moved the line pretty fast. This site no longer provides drop off receipts for pre-labeled packages. Given the rate that USPS loses items, I will no longer be using this location as I can't guarantee they won't lose my package and claim I never dropped it off. Also, they won't let you take a photo of your package label so you can reference the tracking number (since they no longer give you a receipt) in the post office so be prepared before you wait in line. read more

good post office, centrally located in downtown los altos. i like the fact that the main door is open before and after hours so that i can always drop off a letter in the letter chutes. this location is never crowded and i'm always in and out in a matter of minutes. street parking only, but most of the time, it's easy to find a space along main st. otherwise, there are plenty of lots behind main st where i've never had a problem finding a space. read more

stopped by before heading to work around 10 am. i was fortunate enough to find a parking spot right outside the usps; however, i could see how parking here can be hard since there are limited spaces. one of the workers (vincent) was very friendly and willing to help me and made my transaction really enjoyable. it was also felt good in there with the AC blasting on such a hot day...well at least now we know why the usps is not as profitable anymore. overall good experience and excellent customer service read more

I don't usually need to go post office much now a days. Personal service is very polite. Store is clean. But what I really unhappy is that they don't offer USPS envelops. Usually this post office is pretty efficient but during the holiday seasons, there are only 2 staff on duty. Was there and waited a good half hour and 16 customers later, before being attended to. Perhaps they should staff more people during lunch hours since that's the only time to escape from the office to run errands. read more

I've been to this post office serveral times. Each time I went it was not too crowded. Just a few people waiting in line at most. The service was fine. I like to park in the parking lot behind the post office rather than trying to park in the street in front. It's a little easier to access and there's a door you can enter through on the back side. read more

The staff is much more competent and friendly than in other USPS offices. The office is clean and bright, I loved it. Public parking is adjacent to the building from both doors (check the back door, there might be easy to find a spot).
