Memon has experieced in the past few days some negative criticism by his shipping cost. The past 2 reviews in my humble opinion should be deleted for reasons why: * Hb Postal is located at an easy accesible cross streets * Provides 3rd party mail boxes * Accepts all reasonable packages * Has a 3D Creative art printing machine * Most shipping methods available These are just a few reasons why you should remove those 2 negative comments. After reading through some of these "5 star" reviews, I'm becoming more and more convinced this guy is outright scamming folks. The only reason I would give him 2 stars is simply because of the convenience of all different shipment methods in terms of USPS, UPS, Fedex, etc are provided. That being said, he was insisting that the cheapest way to ship an iPhone to a family member would have been $38. This would easily fit into a flat rate less than $10 USPS "if it fits it ships" box. I'm assuming that the 5 star reviews are left by folks that don't ship things very frequently who aren't familiar with typical shipping rates and he is taking severely taking advantage of these folks. It is disheartening to see popular reviews from a business taking advantage of people. Hopefully a BBB claim will course correct this. read more

Beware of scam. Quoted me prices triple what I paid online. Charged me 20$ for a small box and tape. He then started LOWERING the shipping price once I told him I wasn't interested and it seemed too high. This is probably illegal to resell shipping services at above the rates they're supposed to. He quoted me 130$ for a 15x15x9 3 pound box from San Jose to LA. I showed him it costs 15$ for usps priority mail on my phone and he said that online is "bulk rates" and if I want a better deal I should do it myself online. read more

Was looking for a PO box service in the area, so naturally I went onto Yelp to find some local providers. One had average and/or bad reviews for customer service but longer operating hours, and the other had better reviews but much shorter operating hours. So I faced the decision of being able to get my mail whenever I wanted, but facing potentially bad customer service, or getting great service but restricted mail access. I chose the latter, and a few days ago set out to drive down to pay for a box, and as luck would have it I noticed a small postal shop called HB Postal just around the corner from my house. On a whim I decided to pop in to see how they compared. After I parked I looked them up on Yelp first and found zero reviews, not off to a good start, by hey, I'm already here and parked so I may as well walk in to check them out. Walking inside was a bit of a surreal experience, almost like I had stepped back in time 20 years. A spartan lobby interior with a pass through "ticket counter" like opening where you can see into the back office, with a single person operating the entire operating. Much like the many "mom and pop" shops that used to exist before the dawn of chain stores dominating strip malls. The only thing that destroyed this image was the shiny new 3D printer sitting on a table in the lobby :) I was greeted by Memon, who was very eager to help me. He struck me as a very friendly yet humble person, and I quickly found myself engaged in conversation with him, something that I'm not used to doing with "sales" people. It was a very different experience than I'm used to do these days, typically dealing with fresh out of school employees that barely read the new employee manual and can only answer the most basic of questions. The best news, I was able to get a postal box with 24 hour access for a competitive price, from someone that I know will provide customer service that is above and beyond the call of duty should the need arise. I come here not just because it's the cheapest deal I could get on a private mailbox around here, but because the man who runs this establishment makes it all easy and pleasant. Additionally, I have trouble knowing the best and cheapest way to ship things, especially when it comes down to proper labeling and long-distance shipping. Just in case anyone was concerned or curious, I eventually compared the shipping prices I was charged elsewhere and found that they were either on par or cheaper. I've paid out the rear for similar service elsewhere. BEST OF ALL, I can SKIP the post office! Memon went ABOVE and beyond to help me when I had an endless amount of trouble trying to get everything together so i could sign up for a mailbox. I've visited HB Postal on a couple different occasions. I've mostly bought stamps and dropped off mail. There's actually a blue USPS drop box across the street, but I've noticed that the drop box is bent and doesn't look very secure. I feel much better dropping off mail with an actual person. So I met Memon who runs the mailing service. About two and a half months ago, I needed to drop off a parcel package to get shipped to Oregon. HB Postal gave me a really good rate and I didn't have to go searching for the nearest UPS or FedEx store. So I decided to go with HB Postal. They're right on the corner of Wolfe and Reed Ave. The shopping area is super easy to access from all four directions. Then about three weeks ago I needed to mail some letters. Memon helped me with my mailing service, and now I'm sold with the customer service and convenience with HB Postal. I was mailing Christmas cards within US & Canada. The man working there told me that US stamp is regular priced but Canada would be $3/stamp due to the ounce of the card. Which didn't make any sense. I had a bunch of cards so I'm glad I drove to USPS to see the actual price/card which turned out to be $1.25. I work pretty close by so stopping here would be closer for me than taking a package to the Fedex or UPS. I brought one in and the guy was fairly enthusiastic about mailing it for me- that is until I told him it was already stamped (I paid postage online) and ready to go. He instantly tells me that the Fedex truck only stops by to pick things up twice a week and that my package would be really delayed, then he directs me to the Fedex store on El Camino. When I tell him this is fine and that I wasn't in a rush he pretends like he doesn't hear and tells me the Fedex store is really close by. I feel weirded out so I end up leaving with my package. A few weeks later I come by because I need stamps and again this is the most convenient place to get them. I buy two books (worth 9.40 a book or 18.80 for two) and the same guy rings me up for 24 bucks. That's a pretty big markup but I needed them at the time so I bought them anyway. Now that I read the other reviews about how this guy used to be a scammer I'm not at all surprised. Stay away. read more

Memon managed to get my previous Yelp review deleted because "it did not appear to describe a firsthand customer experience at this location", so let me first make it clear that I was a customer for more than a decade total at both the old and new locations. HB Postal's owner Aktar Memon seems like a nice guy, so I hate to say this, but he's a crook. He was even arrested for defrauding an 87-year old customer with dementia. Every time the poor guy would come in, Memon would claim that rent was due and demand payment. Memon fleeced him $33,000 total as documented at http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_18937561. He would also regularly claim my rent was due earlier than it really was, so I had to track the renewal dates very carefully. I first rented a box at Memon's earlier location which was called Honey Bear Postal Express. You can still find it on Yelp with a miserable 1.5 star average. I came to check my mail one day and that whole store was gone! Then he resurfaced some weeks later as "HB Postal" at this new Wolfe location and I got new keys and continued as a customer there for a while. I see that he currently has fantastic reviews at his new store. It's possible that these are fake/shill reviews, but I really hope it means that Memon has turned over a new leaf and become an honest and service-oriented business man! If so, I hope he succeeds. But I'm still writing this review because people deserve to know that the proprietor was already arrested for defrauding customers. Mailbox providers require extra trust because it is so hard to change them once you start getting mail there. The U.S.P.S. doesn't allow mail forwarding from a personal mailbox like this to a new address. read more

The owner is scamming people. And based on the fact that he's been to jail for this type of activity before, I would assume this is just his standard business practice. I went to ship 2 items and needed boxes for them. He gave me boxes much larger than what I needed for my items and I had to keep going back and forth with him to get appropriate sized boxes for the items I was shipping. I asked for the most economical shipping rate and told him there was no hurry on either shipment and to use any of the shipping companies (FedEx/UPS/USPS). The costs to ship each package were outrageous ($40/each for small packages) but I agreed. I provided the shipping addresses and received tracking numbers. I asked why he wasn't putting the postage on the package (I wanted to confirm what he charged me for postage matched what was going on the package) and he said he doesn't do that, the mail carrier does it. So I questioned him again on the prices and said, "Shouldn't this be cheaper?" He then said USPS would save me about $5/package bringing the cost down to $35/package. Then I remembered the "If it fits it ships" flat rate shipping that USPS offered and I asked about that, and sure enough my google search showed that price for a similar sized box should be $13.64/package with no cost for packaging supplies, boxes are provided free. He then agreed to lower the price to $14 after I showed him the USPS website but couldn't ship both my packages because I needed a Flat Rate box size he didn't have on hand. So I left with one package in his possession and one in mine. 20 minutes later I returned to pick up my package and ship ivia USPS and he must have felt bad bc he refunded me (or scared that I was going to report him). He originally tried to charge me $80 + $10 for boxes + $5 for his packaging service = $95 to ship everything I needed when it would have been $17 TOTAL at the Post Office. He is charging customers a much higher rate than what FedEx/UPS/USPS is charging him at the end of the day. He is marking up prices on a federal service (United States Postal Service) and making a profit off them. read more

I have to update my previous review because Memon's service is so good that I just can't understand why anyone would use a faceless chain store for their mailbox needs. HB postal will accept and sign for your packages 7 days a week and likewise be there for you all the way to 7pm to pickup. It's great! Owner is on first name basis with his customers and talks with my son too when he comes in with me. It's nice to know my mail and valuable packages are safe and secure behind the counter with someone I can trust. But more than that, it's just so refreshing in today's world to do business with a real business owner who oversees the day to day and cares about the customer experience. Thanks Memon! read more
