This review is for the staff in their customer reception area. I have my own averse feelings on the postal carriers, but today's review will skip that. When I think of going into a post office to ship a package, I dread the possible reality that I will be graced by a long line and an unhappy customer rep. Sort of like the DMV, if you catch my drift. Not at this location. The staff are personable and professional, and seem to keep the lines moving swiftly. I came in on my lunch break today to ship a package, and the gentleman whom had assisted me was great. He had a positive attitude and was able to quickly answer the questions I had. I was in and out in a matter of minutes. I haven't encountered such an easy experience at other post offices, so this came as a welcome change. Not sure why the low rating... the staff is above and beyond helpful, kind, and informative. I've noticed this with observing the interactions with other customers and myself. My dad especially loves this one man named Doug! He will go to ship some packages for me and return in the best mood ever saying that he just loves this guy Doug! He will offer to take stuff for me all the time because he enjoys the interactions with his pal Doug and the other people. Anyways customer service is key. This post office has a wonderful team. I called their passport office today to get some information for my boss. The woman, Lisa or Linda, I spoke with was by far the rudest, most disrespectful person I have ever spoken to. As I was explaining my boss' passport situation, she actually said to me "I'm holding up my hand in the air. You need to stop talking." There were other things she said, which were also very rude, that I won't repeat here. My jaw was literally hanging open after I ended the call. I was in utter disbelief that someone could be so horribly rude. I was tempted to call back and ask for her supervisor's name and number, so I could report her, but then I remembered that would be useless. I wish U.S. Government employees didn't have such good job security. Otherwise, they might actually have to do their job and be kind people. Needless to say, I got nowhere with this woman. She was completely unhelpful. If you have to come here for passport services, please be aware of their horrendous "customer service." read more

Not only was the guy rude when he spoke to me on the phone, it took 20 minutes of constant dialing just for someone to finally pick up the phone. The main reason I kept calling was because a package said it was delivered but never did I receive it. I called usps main contact line and they said they will do a research case which can take up to three days. Which then lead me to calling them directly at this location which was a horrible experience. Not only did they not help me yesterday, I finally got someone willing to help me today and they said there is nothing they can do until tomorrow. When I first came to this post office during college, I thought this place was pretty miraculous. What's with the low reviews? Every visit I'm nearly in and out! You can't say that of other post offices in other cities. I also really like how their space is large and it's easy peasy to drive up and drop off prepared mail from your car. Great spot. read more

This, along with the Patterson branch, has to be the worst post office in the state of California. I have sent three letters on separate occasions to the Postmaster General in Washington, D.C., about this and the Patterson location, particularly because of the phone issue. I literally called for an entire business week, a half-dozen calls per day, as other callers have noted, and no one answers the phone. I have filed multiple grievances about these two locations, and because the employees are unionized (one of them even told me!), they can't be disciplined or fired. I have considered filing a civil lawsuit against this facility because they lost packages and legal documents, which could have severely affected ongoing litigation, and for incompetency which resulted in lost and late-delivered (by MONTHS!) mail. If you're in Santa Barbara, I would say avoid these two post offices at all costs, but, if you reside in their service area, you really have no choice. I let the phone ring up to 30 minutes once; they have since initiated some type of system that simply disconnects after about a half-dozen rings, so they don't even have to listen to the phone ringing; they can just ignore callers for weeks at a time. Complaints don't help, and that's because there is no accountability. I have spoken to the postmaster for this particular district, his supervisor, and just about everyone else with any pretense of managerial authority and nothing has ever changed. On one occasion, I was in line at the Ellwood branch, and overheard (at the counter) a postal employee and a customer informally chatting: the customer remarked that the employee was now at the Ellwood branch and not the Patterson one, and the (male) employee stated, scoffing, "yeah, I escaped from Patterson." That was the word he used: ESCAPED. Apparently, morale at these branches isn't anything to brag about. I related this experience to one of the managers I spoke to on the phone, who replied, "well, I'm sorry that this employee seems to have had a bad experience, but that hasn't been my experience." Enough said. Or, perhaps not; morale is a serious problem. This facility was the site of a spree killing whereby a formal postal employee shot up the place, killing FIVE of her former coworkers and then herself, in 2006, just a couple of months before I moved just down the street from this location. One would think that they would clean up their act and take care of their own people, but, that hasn't been the case so far. IF YOU HAVE HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH THIS POST OFFICE, or the one at Patterson, PLEASE CONTINUE TO FILE FORMAL COMPLAINTS AND TO SEND LETTERS TO THE POSTMASTER. A volume of complaints and calls, which takes time and effort for them (hence costing them money) will be the only thing which POSSIBLY will bring about change. The worst customer service experience I've ever had. I come here often and don't expect much from the service. Today was a new low. The lead employee handed me the wrong customs form, told me to fill it out, forgot to tell me to address the package, and then told me to press harder when filling out the form so it would show on all the layers. He went in the back and a woman helped me. While she was sick, she did far better than the idiot before her. She said it was the wrong form I filled out and then gave me the correct one, which was much smaller. In addition to all his errors, the lead employee seemed very disgruntled about helping me at all. I came in to drop off my absentee ballot on election day and the line did not seem too long. I needed a stamp and there were only a couple people ahead of me. I thought I would be in and out. Unfortunately this was not the case. One of the two employees hit a snag with the machine regarding a money order and could not for the life of him figure it out. After fiddling with his terminal for a good five minutes he called over the only other employee working with him. She spent another good five minutes fiddling with the computer. She did eventually diagnose the problem but it would've been nice if she just took over and the gentleman can get the line moving as another eight people lined up behind me. The lady who helped me was very nice and thanked me for doing my civic duty. The location is a bit funky as you have to drive way in. I went through their mail drop off loop the first time around and then I tried to go through their employee parking that is attached to the loop. I had to back up and I almost gave up thinking it was just a drop off location. I checked yelp and noticed that people did leave reviews for coming in and I checked google maps and noticed there was a long driveway. I almost did not vote because of this. read more

I'm surprised this post office has such a low rating. My experience here was great. There was an elderly lady who helped me figure out which packaging was best for my needs. She was helpful and sweet. I also told her it was very important that my package was postmarked that day, and she didn't fuss about it at all. She smiled and made sure it got done. She postmarked right in front of me! The only problem with this place is that it's tucked away and kind of hidden haha. But great service! read more

Not a super fun place to visit. For a large mail facility they don't have a very large space for passports and services. The ladies at this location give no regard for anyone else's time, they move in slow motion and it is very apparent they try to spend more time than necessary, chit chatting and carrying on about unrelated subjects while people are patiently waiting. They also discriminate who they help and how they help them, they better pray that competition never comes along, they would never make it in the real world. When I've filed claims to get them to investigate to find the packages that I never received they respond "our records state it's been delivered." I've lived many places and never had such a horrible experience with USPS. I have been hearing USPS is going down because of email and so on and so fort. But the actual reason is that their services are horrible. I sent a package via priority mail using the office on Storke in Goleta, CA on a Tuesday. The package was supposed to arrive at the destination address on that Friday. I paid about $9 for the service. The package never arrived the destination. Instead it was returned back to me on the next Tuesday with a label that said insufficient address. I took the package back to the same post office. The attendee or whoever that person is that stands behind the counter checked the address and said that there was nothing wrong with the address. So, I asked if I could get my money back and he said no. So, here I was. I paid $9 for a package to be delivered to an address. Post office made a mistake and returned it back to me yet they didn't want to refund me. Am I missing something here? So, I asked the guy to let me to speak to a supervisor. He said there are only two people there and there aren't any supervisors there. Note that this is a huge office and it seems to be a distribution center. I asked where do I go to speak to a supervisor. He said I had to go to the office on Paterson in Goleta. I asked if he could call them. He said no. So notice, up to now this guy is absolutely not helpful at all. He said no to every one of my requests for help. I ended up calling the paterson office myself and spoke to someone over there and explained the whole story and I gave the name of the person who confirmed that there was nothing wrong with the address. The supervisor or the guy in paterson office confirmed that he knows the attendee in Storke office. So, I asked if he can call and confirm that the address was ok. He said no. Then he said he will not refund me and I have to go to the Paterson office, fill out a claim, the claim is going to go to complaints something something and I might or might not get refunded. Oh and he differently had an attitude. All that for $9 and their own mistake. At that point I didn't see a reason to continue. Once you pay them you are done I guess. I ended up going to Fed ex and paying only $14.67 for over night delivery. So, with this kind of a service I see why USPS is on it's way out. I feel bad for the mail men because most of them are really good guys and work so hard. read more

I had to get my 50 newsletters out by the end of the day and the service woman said to hurry and she would stop by to pick them up if I knocked on the door. She was good for her word and my newsletters were delivered by the end of the day and posted the next day. read more

When you drop off a package, be sure to be over six feet tall and have long arms because the bin you throw your boxes into is not visible as it's tucked behind the counter.
