Critiques often focus on whether the department's training and accountability systems adequately prevent excessive force, especially in encounters with vulnerable populations such as the homeless or mentally ill. 2. Transparency and Accountability: There have been complaints that the department isn't always fully transparent with the public regarding internal investigations or disciplinary actions. This can create a perception that officers aren't held accountable for misconduct. 3. Relations with Marginalized Communities: Like many law enforcement agencies, SBPD has faced criticism for its interactions with marginalized groups. Issues cited include racial profiling, biased policing, or failure to engage meaningfully with the community in building trust. 4. Resource Allocation: Some critics argue that the SBPD prioritizes certain types of enforcement (like traffic citations or minor offenses) over community support, mental health intervention, and crime prevention programs. This can leave systemic problems unaddressed. 5. Staffing and Training Challenges: Santa Barbara is a tourist-heavy area with seasonal population spikes. Critics say that the department sometimes struggles with staffing and training to handle peak demands safely and fairly, leading to lapses in service or inconsistent enforcement. This isn't an attack on every officer or the whole department--many officers work hard and ethically--but it highlights structural and community concerns that have been raised over time.

Being a business owner as long as I can remember without any bad reputation, I rushed to call and find out what happened, No, some DON character, proceeded to tell me pricing about the BBB and I asked if it was a marketing call, or if he is asking for money because thats another department. he said no, and explained imporantce of bbb he said his prices, I said, whats your email? "I don't have an email I am a talker give me their number and I'll talk to them. I said, no, that department will email you, reluctantly gave me his email, then told me "I'm not going to be doing some email thing either you want it or you don't" Excuse me DON from BBB not sure who you think you are, but you are representing a trustworthy brand that people go to for professionalism and you should be a beacon of that. So once refusing to receive an email from our company not only will we not be joining your BBB we will also not allow our other businesses participate in your terrible representation thinking we can't complain because your the complaint department. Well DON the rest of us people working our ass off for a living, take pride in not being a poor representation of companies., I suggest @BetterBusinessBureau @BBB you take this serious as he's representing your firm, where us citizens go to complain, its a shame sir, you should be more fitting for a loan shark or collections department.

We really played tourist and had a great time! It's a great city for walking around! We stayed at the ocean front Harbor View Inn and we scored a partial ocean view room! Great place to stay! When in Santa Barbara, you must and probably will go to Stearns Wharf! We went three times during this visit! If you get the chance, eat at the Santa Barbara Shellfish Company. It's so good! We also visited the Santa Barbara Museum Of Natural History | Sea Center. Admission was $17 per adult. Be sure to go to the Train Station. There is a humongous tree there which I'm sure you've seen from afar! You need to see it in person. It's the Moreton Bay Fig Tree from Australia. It was was from a cutting and planted in 1877. I saw it in 2020 when it was not as overgrown as it is today. There was no chain link fence, just the smaller black one. We walked up State Street to Old Town (downtown) Santa Barbara. We used the State Street Undercrossing. Improvements made to it were finished last year. State Street in Old Town is closed off to vehicular traffic. It's mostly a safe place for pedestrians. Just be alert and wary of e-Bikes and cyclists. There's lots of restaurants and bars in this area. We also drove around Santa Barbara. We went to Hook & Press Donuts. Very good donuts! Give them a try! This shop is located in the La Arcada Plaza. While here, go explore! There are lots of sculptures and cute shops. If you like art, the Museum of Art is around the corner. We took The Land Shark Tour. It was a blast! I found it online and they still had reservations available, so I booked it. Our captain and tour guide were awesome! This tour will take you into town and into the Pacific Ocean! Just do it!! I want to take the Trolley next time I'm here. Yes, I will be back!

And the music was 10/10! Loved the 80s and classics when they weren't being remixed in with repetitive yelling and banging on cells from less mentally stable inmates. Otherwise the most grimy and unsanitary establishment to ever exist. No soap, hand sanitizer, face masks, or signs of being cleaned in the last century. The bologna sandwich lunch still haunts me. No matter how hungry you are, please don't give in. Best to use it as a pillow to sleep with (learned that from my cell mates after the damage was already done). The most valuable thing I gained from this experience is an appreciation for the little things in life, including basic essentials and comforts that I definitely did not receive here XD but that we take for granted everyday. I hope if you ever get yourself into a pickle that you stay positive and kind and remember that it probably can be worse. Unfortunately i failed the test and decided to hightail out of the place. I spent over a week in SB for holidays and family illness issues and so i came here on the 27th to take my test over. First of all everyone working here were still on the high of Christmas and treated us all few applicants like long lost family members. It scared me initially and then i got into it. I did ask if i could take my photo over and the nice lady replied: $35 to redo. Ok for that. I mean for 35 bucks i could have a few drinks sitting at the Tee Off bar, right? In any event i passed the test easily, missed 2 and received graciously, my 2024 renewal. The peeps that work here are the best: full of smiles and helpful and caring. Why can't all of the DMZ offices follow that trend? And why can't it be Christmas the whole year 'round? Cheers!
