They have such a hard job....you have no conception of their load and long hours, and yet they still manage to smile, and go way above and beyond to be courteous and helpful. Today, my fiancée had the pleasure of meeting EPHRAIN, who helped us navigate sending a registered parcel internationally. He was so kind....so patient and really demonstrated superior customer appreciation, attention-to-detail, and efficiency. He was genuinely warm and just an overall amazing guy. The most terrible,misinformed and ignorant staff I have ever had the misfortune to encounter!!! I presented a flat rate box that was bulged and they refused to ship it! I had researched the official USPS website prior to packaging it and it clearly met all the requirements and specifically said that bulges in the box are not a problem as long as it closes on the normal folds which it did! Even when presented with the written regulations from USPS website they dug in their heels a refused to ship my parcel. The postal service needs to either train its staff or at least have them learn the regulations!! They are absolutely the classic example of overpaid under qualified government employees. I would give zero stars if I could!! No wonder this post office has a 2.1 rating on Yelp! I added this edit later- I took the parcel to San Roque post office and they accepted it without blinking an eye. I am SO UPSET with our mail carrier, whoever it may be. He jammed this Amazon box in our mailbox so tight, neither my husband or so could get it out. The height of the box at the back, where the carrier puts things in, must be higher than the height at the front. There is a slight "lip" that runs across the width of the box at the front, that comes down from the top of the box. The lip is what's preventing us from removing the Amazon box. There are larger mailboxes at the bottom of our mailbox bank (condo complex), and we have received larger packages in those boxes. Or, the mail carrier has sometimes delivers to our front door. I have seen USPS carriers do that at our neighbors condos too. So here I sit, extremely irritated that I cannot retrieve my Amazon package. read more

You would think if he uses our HOA to take a massive s*** everyday in our bathroom, he would at least try to make sure he puts the correct mail in our mailboxes ( we know he takes a massive s*** in our bathroom because before he puts the mail in the mailboxes, he make a b-lines to our pool bathroom and stays in there for a couple minutes before coming out). I've also had issues with packages and gone in person to try and settle things but they weren't very helpful. I prefer going to the USPS Milpas or downtown because the employees are a lot friendlier, but they can't help me with my own personal delivered mail. I seldom (not never) have an issue with my postal delivery person. But today the delivery was "made" about 2 hours earlier than usual. I am assuming it was not my usual delivery postal person. I received a notice that a delivery was attempted but that since I was not at home the delivery could not be completed (I was expecting two small boxes). I watched, from my bedroom window, as the truck arrived, letters were placed in my mailbox and the truck drove off. I went out to retrieve what I believed included the packages for which I was waiting. Instead, I got a notice saying I was not at home so the attempted delivery was unable to be completed. It continued: I should either reschedule delivery (if anything like today, that would be an exercise in futility) or pick up my packages tomorrow at my local PO. This is a bold faced lie. I watched from HOME as the postal carrier drove up, took the time to make out the fraudulent excuse for non-delivery (which probably took as long as it would be required to simply walk up and ring my doorbell), and drive off. Of all usps locations in Santa Barbara why does this location have to be the one that delivers our mail?!? Since October our packages have not been delivered on time. What is the point of giving a time frame of delivery when it keeps changing throughout the day to sometimes not being delivered by the end of the day? I understand there are shortage of people but come on at least deliver the packages that were supposed to be delivered by the end of the day! And why in the world does these mail person not look at the damn address to make sure it's the correct address before putting it in the mailbox? It's not that hard to double check!!! I signed up of their informed delivery since its inception so that I can see what's coming each day. One time, I was expecting a very important mail so I checked my mailbox to find out that it was not there, luckily the mailman was there apparently finishing up. I asked him where my mail was because it was supposed to arrive that day he told me to call a number in the website but was nice enough to call his manager and the manager said to me that sometimes what is on the informed delivery email doesn't come on the exact day(I knew that was a total lie) the manager told me that it should come in a week and if it doesn't I would have to call the sender. I also told the manager and the mailman that our mail often gets mixed up with our address and this other house that has the same number but different street name and if there was a possibility that it went to that house's address. The mailman said he would go back to that house and check. Well the next day my important mail ended in my mailbox box so I can only presume it was at the other address. I occasionally use the option to specify where I want my packages delivered and it is completely useless because the mailman does whatever he wants like stuffing multiple packages in my small mailbox possibly damaging the products I paid for. I have never dealt with this problem when I lived in Glendale. This is one of the worst disorganized post office I've dealt with. read more

Horrible customer service. The clerk was rude and could not help me with my question getting frustrated whe I asked "what can I do to retrieve my package?" My package was supposed to arrive on Sunday but it was missent to another facility. Today I was notified that "Unfortunately, USPS couldn't complete your delivery and is holding it for you to pick up. We're very sorry for the inconvenience." I went to the facility and she said that it was not there that it had been sent out in the morning. I tried to explain that they tried to deliver and were not able to according to the records and naturally I wanted to know what I could do if I would have to call someone, go back another day, or wait and she could not for the sake of costumer service respond to the question. All she could have said to me was to wait because it might still be out there even though my tracking says it is at the facility but instead of answering my uncertainty she kept saying it was not there and that they had so many packages because of the students in a rude tone with a scrounge up face. With a lot of family and friends who couldn't travel here during these crazy COVID times I figured I would be spending lots of quality time at the local post office. I know the USPS is not quite the glamorous place for a Yelp review, but after going to the Patterson Avenue Branch for multiple visits I can actually say that it's not as bad as all those 1 star reviews say. Most my friends were saying to just order gifts on-line, but I am the kind of person who is touchy-feely with those gifts I buy, and I enjoy practicing my gift wrapping skills and special flair with the ribbons. First time I went to USPS Patterson the line went out the door and down the front steps. I set aside a couple hours on this day specifically for this. So with good planning it's possible not get aggravated with their long line. It's also a good time to catch up with e-mail, Sudoku, and texting those people who you haven't spoken to in years (make sure you have plenty of phone charge). Second visit to USPS line wasn't quite as long, but was slow going with some very unhappy people as they either did or did not get recent packages. One employee who was going above-and-beyond with his customer service skills is Brandon. It was nice to see him calm the wildest of beasts with his easy going attitude and his thorough knowledge of "the system." As I approached the service window I was hoping to have Brandon service me . . . and sure enough he helped me with numerous package mailing solutions, and helped me to prepare for my final visit to USPS (packaging supplies, etc.). Third visit was again with the long, long line, and this time I actually saw some high school friends that I haven't seen since that fateful graduation day. So much fun to catch up, and made the time fly by. I could see that Brandon was working again, so I knew it would be a good day. Also waiting in line I saw that they had a nice selection of Christmas cards, and actually found a fun Mickey Mouse ornament one. So of course I scooped all of them up and felt good that my card-less friends would at least get one from me. Also during these visits you get a good grip on how NOT to act in public while watching some people loose their brains over this or that. At one point I wanted to shout out GROUP HUG to everyone, but then remembered that masked hugs are not as special. So thanks to Brandon for helping us through Christmas 2021. I went in for my father because his passport got damaged due to the negligence of one the mail carriers and was hoping to get a new passport for him, free of charge. None of the workers or the managers were able to help me and only gave me false promises. Absolutely unfortunate that we have to jump through all these hoops in order to get him ANOTHER passport when he already ordered one. If you want your mail and parcels stolen, this is the place to be. I have had my mail and parcels stolen four times now. The first time it was my new credit card coming to me. The second time it was a certified letter to my bank. The third time it was my ballot for this last election! And the fourth time, which happened a week ago, it was a $530 cellphone I was returning. I had dropped it in the PO's indoor silver bin and it was never even logged in. A mail employee noticed that the seller's name was electronic-related and walked away with my item. I am going to post a picture of what I received from the post office. I could not be more disappointed in the lack of care my package experienced from LOS ANGELES to SANTA BARBARA. My envelop came in with 1/3 of it ripped open, with a bunch of stamps that said "received in damaged condition" (Thanks, Sherlock), with no contents inside. This was supposed to be a sentimental letter from a friend I haven't seen in a while, and it was crushing to see this. Now it may not necessarily be the fault of SB's USPS, but really? You're going to put the ripped up envelop that has nothing in it with a bag that says sorry? I could not be more infuriated. I hate writing bad reviews and I regret to write one for USPS, because it is such an honest job, but I was not going to go through the painstaking, pain in the ass process that is their claim filing. But this branch in particular features some of the most thoughtful, kind and caring workers I have ever encountered. They'll go out of their way to help, spend long minutes taking one through a complicated procedure and often shower one with warmth as well as efficiency. Received one notice of undeliverable mail, and it was a simple letter. I have a regular mail box and a parcel box, why they couldn't just put it in is beyond me. Anyway. The notice stated that I could come in after 2/27 to get the mail after they had tried to deliver it on 2/25. Thereafter they were going to return to sender on 3/7. I came in on 3/2 and was told that my letter had already been returned. When I asked why the most the teller could say was that it must've been a new person and that they've been told not to do that and I could call the sender. So here's a tip for you, Patterson USPS: Don't hire or promptly fire incompetent people who can't follow simple instructions or drop a letter in a mailbox. You are a government agency that millions depend on, your employees should reflect that. Pretty sure they act within illegal limits here when they target a person & or family. My brother got into a verbal altercation with our mail carrier because she lied and said she had put our mail in our mailbox & he checked (in front of her) & made sure it was NOT in the mailbox- she then, waved it in her hand & refused to give it to him. They argued, she LEFT WITH OUR MAIL. They then suspended our mail- not only MY BROTHERS MAIL, but my entire FAMILIES MAIL- without giving the rest of us notice. Doesn't sound legal to me. Then my brother gets into another argument with a "supervisor" at the actual postal annex. He PERMANENTLY suspends the mail to our address. He said he "couldn't ensure the mail carriers safety" with my brother there... Regardless of the fact that SHE started this by lying about placing our mail in our mailbox when confronted (verbally)- which is illegal for her to withhold our mail & leave with it after showing she still had it in her truck, right? But, whatever. Supervisor, or whoever he was, can't "ensure her safety" by having her deliver to the OTHER MEMBERS OF OUR FAMILY at our address, but she still drives the SAME route. Where my brother still resides, still comes in close contact with us & smirked at me a couple days after this incident... But she's scared? They're scared? What?! Switch carriers. Then they FORCE us to get a PO Box ( which we did) THREE WEEKS AGO & somehow still have gotten ZERO MAIL!!! So, my mother went to check yesterday & the address change forms "DISAPPEARED." They don't know what happened to them. DISAPPEARED EVEN THOUGH MY ENTIRE FAMILY WAS THERE WHEN WE HANDED THE FORMS OVER- as well as multiple customers/ other employees. Sounds suspicious. They dislike my brother, so they're trying to do whatever's in their power to make it hard on us- even THE REST OF US, WHO DID NOTHING & DID NOT EVEN RECEIVE NOTICE! Almost tempted to get a lawyer to investigate because this entire thing smells fishy. They targeted my brother & wound up screwing the rest of my family, as well. This, along with the Ellwood branch, has to be the worst post office in the state of California. I have sent three letters on separate occasions to the Postmaster General in Washington, D.C., about this and the Ellwood location. I have filed multiple grievances about these two locations, and because the employees are unionized (one of them even told me!), they can't be disciplined or fired. I have considered filing a civil lawsuit against this facility because they lost packages and legal documents, which could have severely affected ongoing litigation, and for incompetency which resulted in lost and late-delivered (by MONTHS!) mail. I stopped in to the office to discuss the phone issue with management, but the woman was very rude and condescending. When I told her that it was unacceptable not to answer a phone for a week at a government office, the manager very condescendingly told me that I "just didn't understand" and that when they were busy at the desk, they didn't have time to answer the phone. On another occasion, I was at the Patterson branch picking up a package and encountered the rudest postal employee I have ever dealt with at any post office, or any government office, for that matter. This middle-aged, Asian employee emerged from the back area and began asking people standing in line, very abruptly, what they needed while they were waiting. As each person responded, he would snap back at them: "I can't help you with that; you have to go to the desk.... I can't do anything with that... what do you need? No, I can't do that! You need to go to the desk..." etc. When he finally got to me, without saying a word, I simply held up a delivery notice, and he said "OK, that I can do!" grabbed it out of my hand, and disappeared through the door. He came back a few minutes later. While waiting to sign for the package, I asked one simple question regarding delivery, and he simply put, flipped out on me, ranting "Ok, Ok, I can only do one thing at a time, you're asking me all these questions and I'm trying to finish this. You have to wait until I'm done." I replied that I only asked a question, but that I could wait. He then said, rudely, "I need to see your ID: I can't give this package to you without ID! I need your ID!" I took out my driver's license, displayed it, and he snapped back at me, "OK, you can put that away now, I believe you, I don't need that anymore." At this point, I was livid, so I asked why he was being so rude to me, and why he was giving me attitude, which I didn't appreciate, as I had simply asked a question, to which his reply was... "No I'm not! I'm not giving you attitude... if you think this is bad, you should wait until Christmas!" I then asked: "Can I speak to your supervisor?" to which he said, flat-out, "No." I then repeatedly demanded his supervisor, (i.e., "get your supervisor out here"), and refused to interact with him any further, or sign for the package, until I spoke with a supervisor. When she finally emerged, and after I tried to explain what had just occurred, she just continued on with the process, business as usual, although I informed her of how this person was treating me and the other patrons. He continually protested "I'm not giving you attitude..." the whole time. I ignored him and continued to speak to the supervisor. I told her that I wanted to file a formal complaint, as I had had it with this branch, and she gave me her email, but said that it would be best to call Consumer Affairs. Additionally, the two male employees at the desk were snickering about this exchange the whole time. I was in the process of moving at the time, but I related these incidents to staff when I filed this latest case. The behavior at this postal branch is deteriorating even further, because it is clear that no one is being disciplined. As a former market research/business analyst, having performed many evaluations, in my experience, these types of problems almost always stem from incompetent management and build momentum until nearly every employee at a facility is complicit in the actions or behavior of their superiors, or is driven out and either quits, is fired, or transfers to another facility, if they are fortunate. IF YOU HAVE HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH THIS POST OFFICE, or the one at Patterson, PLEASE CONTINUE TO FILE FORMAL COMPLAINTS AND TO SEND LETTERS TO THE POSTMASTER. A volume of complaints and calls, which takes time and effort for them (hence costing them money) will be the only thing which POSSIBLY will bring about change. This office is usually kept clean and occasionally have someone clean up before the store opens. Items are usually kept stocked and when they've been busy and run out of something, they're more than happy to check the back for you. I can't say that I've had a bad experience mailing something out. I understand from previous reviews and working with USPS that we all make mistakes and are only human. It's always easier to blame the first person you see like the carrier or clerk, instead of asking questions. I've seen the UPS/FedEx mis-deliver a package and someone blamed USPS for the delivery. When shown the company name, they were like "oh" or a package missing a unit number that ended up getting sent back because the carrier is unsure where the person lives. I've had damaged product that came straight from Amazon from their warehouse, that it was no good and had to be sent back. If you have a certify mail or need someone to sign for a package, a carrier just can't live it in the box; that's why you get the peachy slip in the mail. If you physically can't pick up, it gets sent back from 10 days from when it was first attempted. USPS does care about their mail from the time they pick up until the item gets delivered. If for instance it's raining, of course some mail will get wet, as carriers don't walk around holding umbrellas. If it gets wet, goes to the plant and goes on the machines, it might tear because it's paper. So that's when they put the envelope in a bag and apologize. Lastly, if you order something international or sending something internationally, is once it is about to leave the U.S. it's now in the hands of Customs and Boarders and is up to them to release the item. USPS has no control over it. Lastly, I get that you may get some grumpy people, but some of us actually enjoyed/enjoy our time here take pride in what we do. If you have a problem, don't be afraid to tell someone and if that doesn't work, ask to speak to someone higher. Chances are they will have the answer you're looking for. read more

Worst costumer service Mr. Paul said they can't ship until we translate the address to English... He wasn't specific just said to translate... The address was spelled exactly how it's spelled at its destination so then he said street was the only thing that had to be translated even tho the street at its destination is 'calle' not street. Then when asked about insurance his response was "insurance for this!?" .. What does he care what's in there if I want insurance I'm allowed to get insurance jeez. Worst experience ever. The tracking number provided claimed that the item was delivered in my mail box but I checked and nothing was there. After two days of no delivery, I decided to call this location when they opened at 10AM. I called 15 times from 10-11AM and nobody ever answered! Yet, when I called the Santa Barbara location, they picked up the phone on the first ring. I can't believe this USPS location is so horrible!!!! I ran into the mail carrier outside my apartment complex and he had no recollection of delivering my package. He checked the other mailboxes and said he would check the nearby apartments but basically told me I'm screwed if he can't find it. I came home a few hours later, checked the mailbox, and he actually delivered me someone else's mail!! The address wasn't even the same complex as mine. This is the worst experience I have ever had from USPS. I cannot file a claim because they supposably "delivered" it and marked that on the tracking number. Now I don't have my item and I lost $60. I wish I could give them 0 stars. Do yourself a favor and use UPS or FedEx instead. read more
