I'm hesitant to leave a bad review because it's a local business, but I'm very frustrated. Every single time I or my bf get film developed here, there is a problem. The first time, we ordered our pictures on discs. The discs were missing some of our rolls! Like over 60 pictures. When we contacted them they sent us an email with a link to a Dropbox with all the missing pictures. So that was nice... But still avoidable. The next time they never contacted me when my roll was done. Then they scanned my bf's photos out of focus (negs were in focus). That same time they emailed my bf SOME ONE ELSE'S Dropbox pictures instead of his, so we had access to some stranger's pictures. Another time bf's prints were cropped strangely. Then they filed my prints in the wrong place (alphabetically under my first name instead of last) and couldn't find them when I came to pick them up. Then when I was trying to buy lomo film, the guy behind the counter said it comes in a pack of three or single. He didn't differentiate that those two are two different kinds of film. Maybe he didn't know? I can understand each of these mistakes as a one off thing, but when stuff like this happens every time, it's really disheartening. And I think there were a couple of other issues we had that I can't recall now. Oh well. Sorry to be so harsh. At least the people aren't rude and I'm happy with the prints that I got. read more

Ordered a print online, and was disappointed when I picked it up because there was a bar at the bottom which did not show up on my original image and the online preview. When I pointed it out, it seemed like they assumed it was bc of something on my end. I think that if I hadn't asked them help fix it, they would not have done something about it. They ended up cutting my print smaller to remove the bar, which isn't ideal but I'm appreciative they did that for me. Overall, the lack of attention to detail (selling a print with a bar on the bottom) and apathy of the staff towards my issue wasn't great, but what remained of the print itself was very nice. read more

I have been going to Color Services for several decades, particularly when I had special film images to print, crop or custom print. It was always a cool place staffed by creative friendly folks, many of whom were graduates or current students of Brooks Institute. I returned recently after many years sabbatical with a few special digital images that I wanted to get "enhanced" and cropped. Initially, I had a pretty negative experience (no one seemed to know anything about image manipulation, etc), but upon voicing my concerns, one of the owners (Glen) went way out of his way to put things to right. He addressed my concerns with the printed images, and and I am now back to believing this is a great asset for our community. When you have special images that require special attention, go here. I live in Los Angeles, but send my film to be processed and printed by mail order here because they offer the absolute best service. Turn around time is a week: Dropped my film in the mail Monday night; Wednesday my film was processed, scanned, and uploaded to their website where I could view, download, and order prints if I want; UPS delivered my prints Saturday! Processing is inexpensive and the print quality is just great. I am super happy with my results. Will continue to mail off to SB and wish that we get some better services in LA (cheaper, faster, friendlier). For reference: I've also tried A&I Hollywood, Swan Photo Labs, and Fromex Photo Labs in Long Beach. read more

Unfortunately this is the only place in Santa Barbara that I know of that develops disposable cameras and film, otherwise after my first experience with I would have gone somewhere else. They're very quick with developing your negatives which is great, however there are a few things I'm super unsatisfied with. I asked some semi technical questions about their enlarging process and and the first guy straight up didn't know, and the second gave me a technical answer that wasn't an answer to the question I asked. I asked about ordering film and it was such a difficult conversation for no reason... like I was uncomfortable bc the guy was so sus about it. I ordered standard prints, no border, no crop, and yet some photos were cropped or their orientation was off. I only know that because I got scans. Normally o wouldn't care but I shoot on film they charge extra to develop and print so it's like... at what cost? Well actually 1.25 per print + scans lol. read more
