Routinely long waits. Employees are unprofessional and discourteous. Would never go here if it wasn't the only one in town.

It's rare to have a great experience at the post office, but I was just mailing a fragile tea set…read moreto a friend in another state and none of the boxes they had would fit well, but Michael suggested cutting down one box and reforming it to fit the tea set. Five stars for a Post Office?…read more Yes. Do they mess things up? Sure. Are they highly efficient for what they do? Absolutely. Most of my experiences in Post Offices involve huge lines and dawdling employees. The folks here seem to actually want to get through the line quickly. Whenever I come to ship something out they're helpful, friendly, and if treated with respect give it back in return. (Though I'd imagine they wouldn't hesitate to put the smack down if you step up. This is East Cambridge after all) The hours are a bit wonky but they open early enough (7:30) that I have plenty of time to stop in before work to pick up packages/stamps/whatever. In this neighborhood I think USPS is the best shipping option. Apparently in a past life East Cambridge was a bit shady so UPS/FEDEX refuse to leave packages at the door. This means a trip out to Somerville ($45 cab ride) or several days in rerouting (UPS sends it through Rhode Island, natch) to get your package. But the Post Office will hold it for you in the convenient office. Works for me! Sadly it seems like the Postal Service is slowly dying. I know many people could care less but it's a part of our history and really, you get a lot for your 42 cents. Until such time they will get my business.

Acme Bookbinding Co

I work for a school and every year for at least 16 or so years we have used Acme Bookbinding Co. to…read morerebind damaged books. Students are so tough on their books!! Every year when we receive the rebound books back I am ALWAYS amazed at how wonderful they look. Also, they have even gotten better over time with technology. The books always return in pristine condition.

Without question this was the absolute worst customer service experience I've had with any company…read morein any industry. I can't comment on the quality of their work as I was never able to even get a simple a price quote for a book binding service. Here is a quick summary of my experience with the company: November 25th - I sent a detailed email to Manny, who is listed as the 'customer service' contact, in which the project I needed done was described. I specifically asked if this was something ACME Bookbinding could do? No response back, not even a simple 'No' we don't handle projects like this. Okay. December 16th - After letting a couple of weeks pass, I decide to PERSONALLY go into the ACME office since I live only a few miles away. I thought that maybe my email just got lost or forgotten. Not a big deal since I live close and it would be better to speak in detail (in person) about what I wanted done. I met with Manny, who seemed a genuinely good guy, and went over what I was looking to do. We talked about cover, page layout and printing options. After about 20 minutes he said great, I have everything I need regarding the project, I'll have a price quote emailed out to you in a day or two. I never received any email. December 23rd - I made a follow-up phone call to Manny and left a voicemail. I basically just reconfirmed my email address to ensure he hadn't written it down incorrectly and reminded him that it had been a week and still no price quote had been sent. No response or call back. December 30th - I made another follow-up call to Manny and actually got him on the line! Even though I was losing patience at this point, I remained extremely polite saying that 'I know you guys are probably crazy busy with the holidays, and my project is small, but I just haven't received the price quote we spoke about'. He seemed somewhat apologetic and said 'I can definitely get that to you later today'. Great! Finally making some progress. Well it turned out not so great because again no price quote was ever emailed. January 6th - I made another follow-up call. I was told by the secretary that Manny was not available to take a call. I told her I would try back again. January 9th - At this point I basically knew that this project was never going to get done by ACME and I had just wasted a lot of time with this place. I made one last call to Manny and again got a secretary who said, oh he is just going into a meeting. I could almost visualize in my mind Manny standing there shaking his head and saying 'Oh no not this guy again! There is no way I'm taking that call'. I left a voicemail basically saying how I was failing to understand why I couldn't get a simple communication back from the company. And guess what happened next? No response back. So in summary, over the span of seven weeks I sent two emails (never a response), I made one 20 minute personal visit to the office in which I met with Manny, I had one follow-up phone conversation Manny and I left three voicemails (which never received acknowledgement or a call back). And still I couldn't get a simple price quote. Pretty amazing!! At the end of the day, I'm most annoyed by the fact that this company had zero regard for my time. Absolutely zero regard. Honestly, it's okay if you don't want my business (which I was expecting to cost anywhere from $500-$1000), but why wouldn't that just be communicated to me from the very beginning? A simple, 'No we don't handle that kind of work' at the start would have sufficed. Instead, I waste time and energy thinking that ACME is going to handle this project (I had a personal meeting and follow-up phone call with Manny going over the project in detail!!!!) and then there is no follow thru week after week after week. It was absolutely infuriating. I would say if you have a small retail project don't even bother checking with these guys. They obviously don't care about that type of business and you'll likely waste your time believing they do (cause they won't tell you!)

I suppose part of my hesitation to give them more than three stars is because when I first moved to the area, I went in asking for a box for package delivery only. The guy behind the counter charged me $350, which I thought was excessive, but paid because I needed somewhere to receive packages. Unfortunately, once you pay, they won't reimburse you, and as I found out later, he had signed me up for package pickup AND mail services. On the plus side, I haven't seen him in there since. Every other time I've been in there, the service has been great. I often get extremely large and bulky packages shipped and the staff is always willing to let me hold them there in case I want to find help carrying them. The last time I renewed my services, I changed to a $99/year package pickup only service, which is MUCH better than my previous service. Mailing through their center is also very expensive, so watch out for added fees. I'd rather not pay the money to have a box here, but there's not much I can do since I don't have another alternative. However, I've always been pleased with the staff. They're excellent!

But i was pretty sure coming to this location I wouldn't have problems. Boy was I WRONG!!!!!!! First off I like to support the postal services. My patriotic duty. But when you need something asap FedEx is the way to go. I went to the post office and they couldn't help me due to the size of my package. No problem. So she told me to go to MY.I.T. And then FedEx. When I went to M.I.T. They had no boxes the size I needed. So I flat out said no problem. Arriving at FedEx I literally waited about 15 minutes for services. Then the young lady couldn't concentrate on the customers for trying to be on her phone and hide it. Not professional. So when she quoted me the price of the items she said the box would cost $15.00 bucks and then to ship the product $59-$60.00 bucks. Then she tried to balance between me and the same guest she were with when i came. I went into shock. I asked her why so much? She said that the box alone costs 15 bucks. And the rest which were clothes and a child's guitar added. I laughed and asked her was she sure. And she said yes and i left. I went into U Haul bouh yt? A box and popcorn for ...get this..... (9.00)bucks. Yes I was happy but not at the fact I had to haul everything to and from my home to FedEx. So the next week I went back and said I'll have to bite the bullet and send it. So the two guys were very helpful. And we had a laugh and i was in and out within 10minutes. I looked at my receipts and it only cost me $17.44 to ship it out. I was furious that she would charge me so much. I wanted to tell her who I knew at the FedEx headquarters in Tennessee. But I simply am taking these steps to warn people about overpriced places. I am still shocked but happy I have my gifts off finally. Due to work and time I had no time to breath let alone send gifts. The two guys were awesome. Thank you. But this will be sent to corporate after I get at my desk and settled.
