Closed for an hour and a half for "lunch" with no shame whatsoever. Might as well close the location and pay the workers to chill at home.

The staff has always been helpful and even assisted me in tracking a package that was out for delivery.

Even for those of us who love cities, I think many of us still search for some sign of old world civility and small town charm amidst the hustle and bustle. The staff at this two-window old-timey seeming post office is friendly and personable. If you're a regular, they get to know you by name. They're patient too, especially with folks like me who want to see all the new stamps before deciding on which ones I'm going to buy. They get it that wanting a cool stamp isn't necessarily a frivoulous thing. Those envelopes have to look interesting, don't they? They're also nice enough to have tape dispensers on the counters for packages if you need it a little extra. While my hometown post office in Hingham is also friendly and accommodating, this Beacon Hill branch has the added charm of it's architecture and history. And frankly, it's just so darn cute! The venerable U.S. Post Office struggling. Stop in this branch, buy some stamps, mail someone you know a card or a gift and have a neighborly chat with the nice people who work these counters. It just might make your day in an unexpected way and might change the way you view government employees for the better.

I have been getting my annual holiday stamps from this post office for the last 8-10 years. It has…read morealways been a great experience. The lines move quickly (there are 4 windows) and the staff is attentive and helpful. They also have a wide variety of tape, envelops and stamp options. In picking my holiday stamps this year, I had a choice between snowglobes, snowflakes, a Christmas tree variety and a mother/baby jesus. Snowflakes are new this year so I got some of those, some Christmas and then a baby animals set (not holiday themed in case I have some left over). I also bought 10 international forever stamps which had a poinsettia design. I believe this location offers self checkout where you can weigh your package, pay postage and drop off your package in a box but I haven't tried this before. Lastly, this location offers a number of greeting cards and gift cards as well for purchase..

Shipping via the USPS is loads cheaper than FedEx…read more I was trying to ship a pie cross country and the quote at FedEx for overnight was outrageous. No wonder I prefer to send money or to buy online with free shipping! Need a box? It would be $5.99 or more, depending on size. Overnight to Cali would be nearly $190 for 8lbs. Even the cheaper options were pretty pricey, and it was pie, so I couldn't go with the cheapest next week delivery option. I was about to give up, then I remembered that the USPS did offer some quickish delivery options and ran over before their door locked at 6pm. Good news - if you make it in, they will take care of you. Relief! The two pies didn't fit into their large priority box with 2-3 day delivery. Given the risk to the pie quality, I ended up shipping one pie in a medium flat rate box (11-7/8x3-3/8x13-5/8 inch) for $13.65 (one rate, any weight! box included, and with a tracking #), which would have cost $56.99 for 2 day ship at FedEx (about 4 lb, and the price doesn't include a box). The other pie? I'll probably eat it. PS - the pie arrived still cold to the touch - yay!

He (post worker) is very friendly and polite. Then there's a day with a women whose probably in her 30s or 40s not really sure but you don't want to be there when she's working. She isn't very personable at all, she usually has an attitude and isn't very helpful. And it's not just me I've sat back and watched the way she deals with other customers and it isn't friendly, she's very cute and dry, never smiles. To me it seems like she doesn't enjoy her work at all and takes it out on everyone who is around her. The wait here is usually really short. I've never had more than 1 person 2 tops in front of me. As far as supplies go there are usually plenty of boxes, there are a small selection of cards and gift cards, bubble wrap and tape are usually harder to find here so if you need to tape a box BE SURE TO BRING YOUR OWN TAPE AND BLACK MARKER FOR WEITING THE ADDRESS ON PACKAGES! They have a very small area with P. O. Boxes but remember this is a Boston Post Office not Brookline. (I made that mistake once when trying to pick up an undeliverable piece of mail, LOL)

That clerk appears to work slowly, possessing poor eyesight and limited language skills. I arrived at 3:30pm and there were 12 people ahead of me. As of 5pm there were still 6 people in front of me - it was 8 but two of them gave up and left. When I finally gave up, the clerk was still with the same customer (who had just one package) for over 30 minutes. She had to read, re-read, repeat, re-read, re-input, and re-input everything on the customer's forms ONE CHARACTER AT A TIME. Since it was getting close to 5:30 (closing time) it was safe to assume I wasn't going to get to mail my packages that day. I hope UPS thanks USPS for sending business their way.
