I was in the area and this USPS location was a short 7 minute walk. It's right at the top of Hanover street and was very easy to find. They have plenty of material and supplies for shipping needs. The line wasn't long. I was in and out in under 15 minutes. Shout out to Joe at the front desk who assisted with package details and confirmed when my package would be delivered. NO LINES/SHORT WAIT & NICE STAFF. I've gone here during the week in the morning/afternoon and after work as well as Saturdays and DON'T HAVE TO WAIT LONG. The longest I've had to wait in line is like 5 minutes. Obviously everyone's visit is going to be different but compare this post office to the Pru and Kenmore Square, this one is GREAT - hardly any line! At Kenmore, no matter what time you go, that place is always packed and plan to be in line for at least 15-20 mins. Also want to throw this out there: The gentleman with the glasses that works here has the COOLEST VOICE. He sounds like he should be a tv announcer. He gives you the spheel asking if you need any postage, packages, etc and I don't mind listening because his voice is so interesting! I just went today to buy stamps and the guy wasn't there so I was bummed :( I shipped a few packages here and the guy was really HELPFUL with all my questions: Which box is the cheapest to send? When will it get there? USPS priority flat rate boxes are already taped for your convenience. From what I've seen, there are usually a few PO Boxes of various sizes available for rent. All of the employees on Hanover Street are great except Mike who has a problem doing his job and frequently makes snide remarks like, "I hate these things" in reference to poster tubes (which his coworkers have no problem mailing) or telling customers at 5:45pm that he can't mail their packages because "international packages take 15 minutes to process [and the post office closes at 6pm]," which is particularly funny because I walked to the South Station post office, which is open until midnight every day of the week, and including my wait in line and mailing an international package, I was in and out of there in seven minutes. Mike, I hope that every customer interaction you have fills you with the type of loathing I feel whenever I go into the Hanover Street post office and see that you're there. I would sooner pay extra to have someone else wait on me. read more

I have never made a negative comment on Yelp however this situation was just too annoying not to let others know. About 30 minutes ago, 7 minutes before the post office was closing, I was met at the door who was already not allowing people into the post office. I told him all I needed to do was give the pre-packaged HUGE box to the people at the desk or set it in a crate for boxes like I have done many times before. He told me I couldn't because they needed to ask me questions and I needed to go to south station. This box can be picked up at my house. I was trying to do them a favor since it was huge. He refused to let me in even after I reminded him of the time. He says the works need to be done exactly at 2. Besides the huge box, I had 3 big bags around my arms to return items to stores. I couldn't believe the guy wouldn't let me in. It was so ridiculous and people could see I was struggling to hold everything that people on the street (men and women) were trying to help me and told the guy this was nuts too. There are some really great people behind the counter at this location; at times, it feels a bit like a neighborhood hangout. During the busy Christmas season, it feels like the airport with its endless line. Only once did I have a frustrating experience; it seemed like the person took his time with my packages because he didn't like me personally. Advice: test the waters with some simple postal needs & get to know who the breakout stars of this location are, then try to stick to them. read more

This is the best post office location I've ever been to, and I'm so happy that it's the one in my neighborhood!! It's really a community place, like most of the establishments in the North End. Let me tell you a little about the people who work there. They are awesome! I don't remember all of their names so I'll just list the ones I do know. Joe is efficient, hardworking, and "parsimonious" (his own word). He has a great sense of humor but above all strives to do his job well. He curates playlists of historical Billboard hits lists that he plays while he's working and he will put up a sign with the list of songs so you can see what you're listening to. Will gave me some great movie recommendations and is also super nice. Cheryl is as nice as everyone here says and knows her stuff and is funny and smart. I really love this post office and literally would just hang out here and chat with the clerks if that wouldn't be interfering with their work. Thanks for everything, guys! read more

Though there are some nice people that work at this post office - Mike is not one of them. I shipped a package "priority" to my elderly parents 6 days before Christmas with him and it didn't arrive in time. Why? Because Mike took my money and DID NOT SHIP IT PRIORITY. This man absolutely ruined my Christmas. Not only do I want my money back, I want a personal apology from this horrible human being. I am trying to file a complaint with his supervisor but the number is always busy. Avoid MIKE at all costs - you'll know who he is just by looking at his mean, nasty demeanor. read more

Man I wish that I had some sort of snappy slogan to start this review out with. The USPS really needs to get on it. Something simple would do. Perhaps something that embodies the spirit of the post office leke "When you've got some mail. Have some fun. US Post Office we're the one". When I went in I timed it just right. There was a woman standing in front of me that had about 50 letters for some special occasion that she needed to send to Italy. Needless to say I had quite a wait ahead of me. After round bout 10 minutes another employee graciously appeared from the back and helped me out. While not speedy or polite per se, the service got the job done and was not rude. Given the job that they do you can hardly fault the employees for taking their breaks when they are due. The location is laid out well for the size of the location and the needs of the customers. It tends to be clean and efficient. The straight-it's a post office. you bring things in and they send them out. What's good-Nice layout and they keep it clean. The Slap-It can be a wait to get to the register and to get your items processed. This is largely because you need to wait for the bread to bake......I mean because it's a post office. read more

The negative reviews seemed so unfair to me that I signed up so that I could post this. I have used this post office since 1986. I have experienced nothing but courtesy, helpfulness. and efficiency.. Pretty remarkable, given the unfair burdens being put on the Post Office by both political parties in Washington, D.C., who want to privatize the U.S. Post Office. Sometimes there is no line; sometimes there is a line. At times, like the winter holidays, lines are longer than at other times. That's life at anywhere, supermarkets, banks, department store cashiers--wherever. And, this is a small branch. Expecting anything else seem unrealistic, in my opinion. But personnel quietly keep things moving along as steadily as reasonably possible. I don't know what more anyone can ask. read more
