I have been getting my annual holiday stamps from this post office for the last 8-10 years. It has always been a great experience. The lines move quickly (there are 4 windows) and the staff is attentive and helpful. They also have a wide variety of tape, envelops and stamp options. In picking my holiday stamps this year, I had a choice between snowglobes, snowflakes, a Christmas tree variety and a mother/baby jesus. Snowflakes are new this year so I got some of those, some Christmas and then a baby animals set (not holiday themed in case I have some left over). I also bought 10 international forever stamps which had a poinsettia design. I believe this location offers self checkout where you can weigh your package, pay postage and drop off your package in a box but I haven't tried this before. Shipping via the USPS is loads cheaper than FedEx. I was trying to ship a pie cross country and the quote at FedEx for overnight was outrageous. No wonder I prefer to send money or to buy online with free shipping! Need a box? It would be $5.99 or more, depending on size. Overnight to Cali would be nearly $190 for 8lbs. Even the cheaper options were pretty pricey, and it was pie, so I couldn't go with the cheapest next week delivery option. I was about to give up, then I remembered that the USPS did offer some quickish delivery options and ran over before their door locked at 6pm. Good news - if you make it in, they will take care of you. Relief! The two pies didn't fit into their large priority box with 2-3 day delivery. Given the risk to the pie quality, I ended up shipping one pie in a medium flat rate box (11-7/8x3-3/8x13-5/8 inch) for $13.65 (one rate, any weight! box included, and with a tracking #), which would have cost $56.99 for 2 day ship at FedEx (about 4 lb, and the price doesn't include a box). I always like this location that they have. Even tho I don't go often everyone I go make a transaction in here it's always fast and they have enough people to help the costumers. I was shipping something I sold online and I got called in like a minutes. I had one guy waiting before me but he was done in a few seconds so it was my turn. And they were fast too. My shipping was pretty straight forward anyways. So no wonder and the location is really convenient to downtown. It's close to the shopping area so you can just swing by real quick. The place is also bigger compared to some other branches that they have. It's spacious inside which was nice about that place. Over all it was a good experience for me. read more

US Post Office? More like US Lost Office (as in, lost my mind for going here). I use this post office periodically because it is near my office (I'm sure that's true for many), and the line usually moves relatively quickly. Those are the only pluses. Today, I walked in around lunchtime and of course the line was very long. I waited for a few minutes and then wondered why I was waiting there like an idiot, since I only needed to buy stamps and there was a perfectly good self-service kiosk in the corner. I happily jumped off the line to go use the kiosk and then promptly discovered that it was out of order...for everything - shipping labels, postage, pretty much everything anyone would want to do (Note to self: always be suspicious when there is no line...or an empty subway car. There's always a reason). By then, 5 more people joined the line I had just left. I got back on line and waited another 5-10 minutes (ok, not too bad). As I get near the front of the line, one of the employees behind the counter yells across at me and an older gentleman in front of me to get behind the red "Wait Here" sign. Admittedly, I hadn't even noticed the small sign. I was more focused on the dogs wearing sunglasses featured on the greeting cards that they sell. The guy in front of me and I exchange glances look like "geez!" (censored version) and we each promptly moved 0.5 inches backwards. What was so odd is that there was at least 6 to 8 feet between us and the counter, so we weren't even close to crowding anyone. Not wanting the postal police to be called and end up in postal jail, I did my best to comply with the orders. What an odd and mildly unpleasant experience. I had one of the rudest experiences I have ever had at this post office. I came in right after 730 and there was only two others being helped. I had two items to return so I picked to envelopes and started to put the items in. The lady at the counter "Helen" yelled that I had to move out of line that I was in the way of others that needed to use that table. However there was no one else in line or around. I had to then be helped by Helen where she gave me awful attitude as if I had done everything wrong about my return. She persisted to be rude and tell me I had to buy a whole role of tape to tape one paper on the envelope. Well every other post office I've been to has had tape available and taped it for me so I wouldn't have to buy a whole role for one thing. The lady working next to her looked at me in embarrassment of her co worker. I've never been spoken to in such an awful manner. I know that jobs can be stressful or trying but a person shouldn't work in customer service if they can't be polite to others. She started my day off on the completely wrong footing. I hope the manager here supervises better next time on how is employees treat their customers. read more

This post office location is terrible. There are always long lines here with the staff not seeming to care about speed or efficiency. Staff at this location have no sense of urgency and just disappear regularly. You would think that staff would open up counters when seeing long lines - but nope! Not only do they not care, one of the guys just yelled at everyone. No wonder the USPS is losing out to Fedex and UPS. This is a great post office to use if you are in the down town area. It is large and the line is managed well so it typically is a short wait. The tellers are always friendly and are pretty understanding if you mess something up or need to add insurance. They hold your sale and you can come right back to the front once you fill out the correct forms for insurance, tracking, etc. Generally, I try to use the automated machine if I'm doing something simple. Although I understand negative experiences can happen, I wanted to help balance the scales a bit because the star rating for this post office definitely is not an accurate reflection of my visit. I came at the absolute worst time of year. Christmastime at about 4pm. The line was pretty much out the door. I actually walked in with another lady, who promptly groaned and decided to walk back out the door. However, I decided to brave the line and wait. I mean, I have an Iphone to keep me busy so why not. Surprisingly the line seemed to inch along rather quickly, and I was at the counter in about 15 minutes. Now, one would expect the postal workers during the holidays to look like first timers at an AA meeting, but I was greeted with a pleasant smile. The gentleman was able to take care of my shipping needs quickly, and we even shared a joke or two. I left in the same great mood I arrived in. Although the experience wasn't a mind blowing 5 stars, it seems that either previous reviewers may just need to loosen up a bit, or I just happened to randomly hit the customer service jackpot. read more

Ever wanted to be in a sitcom? Because this place is a parody of a government agency. So I'm trying to renew my passport, right? The first lady has no idea what she's doing so I have start over from scratch with her boss. I bring the second set of forms up, she gathers everything together and asks me to double-check it, then in the same breath gestures grandly towards the line and loudly berates me in front of the dozen or so people for wasting their time. The only pro to this post office aside from its location is the fact that it's open until 6pm M-F. Everything else about this post office screams typical (Boston) USPS office from customer service to long lines. The clerks seem to always be having a bad day and the self-serve machine seems to malfunction just as much as it works. If you have it, I suggest you just take a trip up the street pay UPS or FEDEX the extra fees because not only do you get what you pay for, but they're always smiling! & FEDEX is open even later - 9pm at 60 state street. read more

I didn't imagine I'd ever be reviewing the USPS, but I've used this location on Milk Street twice, and both times I was super impressed with the speed of delivery. I once mailed a package (regular delivery, not overnight, not Priority) at 5pm on a Thursday, and it was delivered to NH by 11am the next day. I'm not sure why it is, but this is the spot if you want to send something and have it received in super timely manner. read more

It's located inside a beautiful historical building. It's tucked away from the main drag and the entrance isn't that well marked, so I almost walked past it. I had two post cards to mail to my family and the lady who helped me was super friendly. I was staying at a historical (meaning very old) hotel, so she and I chatted about that. There were no one else in the line and it was probably the only pleasant experience I've had at the US post office - ever. So, it was definitely worth writing a review. read more

The folks working here do a great job. Kathy and Cheryl are quick and friendly. When the other employees here are treated nicely, I'm sure they are friendly enough too. The lines are long here at times but it's not fair to blame that on the staff. Avoid the noon timeframe and right before big mailing days like 4/15 and Christmas and you'll be in and out. read more

Everytime I have gone here the line is soooooooooooo long. And I'm not talking just 9am or 5pm, even in the middle of the day. And not just holidays (I understand it's crazy leading up to Christmas) but why the end of January? Three people is just now enough to cover the crowds they get sometimes. That being said, if you are willing to wait, the customer service is great. They are always super helpful and friendly and will recommend the best options and prices for you. Reliable full-service location. Sometimes the line gets long and moves slowly but they do their best! I go here more often than the one near my house because they always have a good selection of stamps and are fast once you get to the counter. I have been waiting 25 minutes TWENTY FIVE MINUTES to simply get a certified mail receipt stamped. People go to window with boxes not sealed. With certified green cards not completed. They should be asked to leave the line and come back when the piece is ready to mail. Clerk leaves window to answer door bell. If I could send this one piece of mail via FedEx or UPS i would. Probably the slowest postal workers in the whole country. I actually stood in line for almost an hour to mail a package.

Awful service, grumpy employees, and the place is filthy. Someone left a used salad plastic container on the counter. Disgusting! As soon as the line gets long, that's when an employee will close his station and take a break. I wish I could do that at my retail job. Look at the clock, tell the customer, its my break time, and walk away. I'd be fired in no time!! The employees are grumpy, angry, and frumpy. I'm not sure if they know how to socialize in a polite manner. By the way, their prices are not cheap at all. $89 for overnight delivery with $5k insurance. UPS is 1/2 that price! Ridiculous! SO SLOW. There are six stations, only two are ever actually manned. The line is always insane and the set up stinks. I am unsure why this place seems so poorly understaffed, no wonder the staff is miserable and rude to customers, they have too much to do and no one to do it. They speak to the people like they should know exactly what to do. There should be clearer signs, and maybe some sort of direction given to people. There are signs hung up but really none of them make any sense at all. And good luck trying to call this place for information or with a question, no one answers the phone, I have been in the office and hearing the phone ring constantly and no one picks it up because they are all trying to cut down the huge line....I will walk further to go to a different office if I need something for work, but only stop here for our P.O. Horrific customer service experience today with Sheryl. Beyond rude, as I approached the counter with a basic question about mailing a package, she berated me about which label and service I wanted to purchase without bothering to explain what the options were and the pricing for each option. Even worse, simply asking which label I would need to complete the order caused her to fly into a temper tantrum about how I should know ahead of time where these labels are in the post office. She refused to give me any information about where exactly to find what I needed. I left the post office and will no longer do business with the USPS. read more

I was pretty sure I had a long wait ahead of me as I approached the Post Office to mail gifts just 12 days before Christmas, but I was wrong. Not only did they have a self-service station just inside the door, but there was a USPS employee there to help. The two people in front of me were helped quickly, as was I. I want to preface this by saying I am frequently at this Post Office - this rating is more about the experience I had today with one of the clerks than my collective experience overall. It may also be useless to say that I am a generally patient person, but after my fair share of time working in service roles and understanding how thankless of a job and an environment it can be I make a serious effort to be kind to everyone that is helping me and providing me a service. I suspect that's why my experience from today was so unfortunate and all together unreasonable. I went to the Post Office in the 31 Milk Street Lobby today around 1:30 pm. It was later than my usual visit, but the line was still about 15 people deep. I waited my turn, and the line moved along as it always does. I have always found the clerks on shift to be helpful, and I expected today to be no different. I always walk in with the same purpose - I have sold something on Poshmark and I am shipping it to the buyer. For those of you that don't know, Poshmark prints pre-paid shipping labels when an item is sold. I have always used a USPS Flat Rate Box to ship the items that have sold and have never had an issue. Nevertheless, I was standing in line and watched on as one of the clerk's asked her colleague why she had taken her date stamp from her station. This is only important for one reason: the tone that she asked this in was unpleasant, and indicated to everyone in line that she was in a correspondingly unpleasant mood. I am in this Post Office so often that I have had this individual clerk before, and was sort of surprised given how friendly she had been to me during our previous interaction. Well, anyway, I'm sure you've guessed that when my turn came, this clerk was the one who was going to help me. Upon handing her my package, she immediately tells me that I have done the label wrong and that I can't use this box. Now, I have been standing in line for a while. I have been in this Post Office several times with the same transaction and have never been told anything of the sort. More on that later. I ask her why. She points to the top of the label and tells me that because there's nothing that indicates a flat rate box can be used, I can't use it. She starts to pull out an envelope, and I tell her that I didn't actually make the label, it was generated for me. She raises her voice louder and tells me that it doesn't matter who made the label, that it's wrong and I can't use the box. I begin to tell her that no one had ever told me this before, she snaps that I'm not letting her finish, and then, even louder than before, says something about the package being shipped by weight. I proceed to tell her, not yell or with any perceived attitude on my part, that I have come in a bunch of times, that I was even in yesterday, and no one has ever told me that I can't use one of these boxes. She says "That's because no one here is doing their job!" I say "okay," and ask her if every time I want to ship something I have to use one of the large envelopes. Granted, that likely came out in a bad tone, but I was desperately trying to hold on to my cool. She starts going off on me about the "attitude" I am "attacking" her with, and that "if you don't like it, you can talk to Tom." I told her I didn't need to talk to Tom or anyone else, and asked if I could have the envelope. I thanked her and walked away from the counter. Not a foot away from the desk I hear her talking very loudly about how unbelievable I am to one of her other colleagues. That was the last I could deal with, so I turn around in front of a very long line of people and say "Excuse me, you don't get to talk about me after I've left the counter." She yells at me from across the room "I wasn't saying anything, he was the one who said it!" I walked out after that without my package having been shipped, and called the general line to file a complaint. I don't care if I'm supposed to use a large envelope. I'll use whatever the heck USPS wants me to use. What I do care about is that from the get-go I was treated unprofessionally and with disrespect because I was unaware of a rule and then had the apparent gall to ask questions to clarify. There were a 1,000 other routes she and her colleagues could have taken where I would have changed the packaging and the service I walked in there to get having been provided. read more

I rarely come here since it's not in my neighborhood. But when I do, it's always been a horrid experience. Ridiculously long line. Incompetent staff. Rude customers. Normally I wouldn't care, honestly. It's snail mail done on a federal budget. But one experience for me just turned me off of this post office for good. I got my passport renewal papers here and went home to fill it out. I figured I'll bring it back here to send because doesn't the building just scream professionalism? I believed my documents were in good hands. Weeks went by and I finally got some documents back. But where was my new passport? I figured I just needed to wait longer. 2 whole months passed still no sign. So I contacted the passport place. It's been issued and sent. Then I went to the post office to inquire wtf happened. They lost it!!! Then they had the audacity to tell me I would need to shell out another $200 to start the process all over again. The ONE time I trust this place to do something, they failed me. On my way to work this morning, I went to the Milk Street Boston Post Office and got a medium priority box. I inscribed sender's name/address and recipient's name/address directly in the provided field on the opening flap of the box. I didn't want to use the "priority mail" tape to seal the box as it was opaque and it was going to cover what I've written. I went to the counter with the intent to request that it be taped with clear tape right before sending it. I come to the counter and the older, tall, blonde female (OTBF) postal worker declares loudly and impatiently, "Well, I can't send that 'cause the box is open." I said, "Of course, I don't intend to send it open. I was going to request that you seal it with a clear tape as the tape there on the service desk have markings and it will cover what I wrote." "You need to tape the box and use a priority label and it's over there." I thought it needed a special label so off I went. She never answered my question whether she had clear tape points to the service desks, and leaves me without further guidance as to where exactly the priority labels are. The other worker, who was attending to her customer asked me loudly if I needed help and directed me exactly to the one location where the priority labels are, which is a sticker with the "to" and "from" fields WHICH I HAD ALREADY FILLED OUT directly on the box itself. This OTBF postal worker proceeded to leave the counter to sort mail in the back area even when there were 5 to 6 customers waiting in line and left the other worker (Helen, I believe) dealing with customers alone. Helen saved the day for me. She was polite, helpful even while she kept looking at the line, and at the other worker who chose not attend to customers and shaking her head. I would have walked out of that store if Helen wasn't there. I've seen the reviews on Google and Yelp and it seems that I'm not the only one who has had a bad experience with this same worker. I've also seen her before on previous visits and she is not pleasant to deal with. She either needs to be retrained/coached or retired. She is inefficient, talks down to people, has very little patience and has no sense of prioritization as she has numerous times left the service kiosk even when the line is long, to start sorting mail in the back area in full view of everyone. It seems she takes pleasure in telling customers off and being rude. She must not have a lot of victories in her life for her to take pleasure in condescending on customers. It's not the first time I've been in this location and she's always behaved that way from what I've observed. I will never have myself served by this lady again if I need to use that post office. If Helen or another postal worker is not available, I would rather go to Fedex or UPS next time which is nearby. read more

She is very rude and obnoxious with customers and almost condescending. I went to mail a passport renewal and she didn't even double check and staple my documents when all the other workers were doing it. She's rude to customers. She just has no people skills at all.
