Five stars for a Post Office?…read more Yes. Do they mess things up? Sure. Are they highly efficient for what they do? Absolutely. Most of my experiences in Post Offices involve huge lines and dawdling employees. The folks here seem to actually want to get through the line quickly. Whenever I come to ship something out they're helpful, friendly, and if treated with respect give it back in return. (Though I'd imagine they wouldn't hesitate to put the smack down if you step up. This is East Cambridge after all) The hours are a bit wonky but they open early enough (7:30) that I have plenty of time to stop in before work to pick up packages/stamps/whatever. In this neighborhood I think USPS is the best shipping option. Apparently in a past life East Cambridge was a bit shady so UPS/FEDEX refuse to leave packages at the door. This means a trip out to Somerville ($45 cab ride) or several days in rerouting (UPS sends it through Rhode Island, natch) to get your package. But the Post Office will hold it for you in the convenient office. Works for me! Sadly it seems like the Postal Service is slowly dying. I know many people could care less but it's a part of our history and really, you get a lot for your 42 cents. Until such time they will get my business.

I went in to this location while I was running errands in union, and I had to ship out a package. My item was going to be shipped in a medium size priority mail box, and I grabbed a package of bubble wrap as well. Pat came over and asked if my item was over 2 or 3 pounds. I wasn't sure so he weighed it, and said it would be cheaper to use a box that wasn't flat rate. He also said he had packing materials another customer left if I didn't mind using those. (The materials were in brand new condition). He didn't charge me for the box, and with the money I saved on the bubble wrap and the shipping, it was about $8 less! Dang. That's a nice lunch at Subway. Hat tip to postman Pat. Wonderful service.

I was not here to argue with her, there is a time and place to discuss politics. I felt quite uncomfortable. I took 15 min to send a package overseas. Some people left the line because they became impatient. When I asked her what the cheapest shipping option was, she said "I don't know". She refused to tell me the different shipping options, and picked one that was rather pricey. I asked if she knew when the package would arrive, and once again, she said "we don't know anything about overseas packages". Surely, after paying so much for shipping, there would be tracking included. There is a UPS store a 10 min walk away. You might want to consider going there, or going to a different USPS location.

This US post office is actually pretty good regardless of my three star rating…read more There are two female clerks that are amazing they do a great job. Kudos ladies.! The post office itself is pretty decent. Has mailboxes always fully supplied with paper goods and envelopes and packaging. The two downfalls of this place that they only have two clerks at a time they should open three maybe even full windows sometimes . This is a very busy post office and a lot of people are doing passport work are they're at the counter for 20 minutes because they have 18 packages to mail. When there's only four or five people in front of you you still wait 15 minutes sometimes a half hour depending on what's going on at the two occupied windows. As I said, the two female clerks are fabulous, but they can only handle so much work. The second downfall is parking you either have to pay so you don't get a ticket if the parking police come around they have two spots out front that say 15 minute parking, but I haven't got one in probably six months. You either have to take a chance on a ticket or you have to go to a whole process of getting a half hour or an hour ticket just to drop off your mail or get a money order or mail something out I think the post office deserves to have at least 20 spots available for the public.

I think the negative reviews are mainly because of the long lines. I'm pretty sure most people…read moredon't realize they have a self check out for mailing packages and buying postage because even when the regular line is epically long the self check out line is empty or really short. The downside to the self check out is that if you try to buy postage or a stamp size label, it will get stuck in that slot. And when it gets stuck and you try to tell the employees, they will likely say "Yeah, that happens" (and do nothing about it) like they did to me. The slot that spits out the larger labels, those for packages, works fine. And if the handle of the package drop bin is stuck it means it is full. Just leave it on the desk near a clerk and don't wait in line. Moral of the story- use the self check out for packages. For stamps, buy them at usps.com or at a drug or grocery store.
