The mail I send does not reach its destination. I mail birthday cards, Christmas cards, Valentines cards. They don't arrive. I call the Somerville post office. They don't answer. I think I will call the Attorney General or escalate to Consumer Affairs. This is unacceptable. read more

The lady here kept talking about how much she hated her job, as well as voiced her political opinion really loudly. Everyone in line could hear her. I was not here to argue with her, there is a time and place to discuss politics. I felt quite uncomfortable. I took 15 min to send a package overseas. Some people left the line because they became impatient. When I asked her what the cheapest shipping option was, she said "I don't know". She refused to tell me the different shipping options, and picked one that was rather pricey. I asked if she knew when the package would arrive, and once again, she said "we don't know anything about overseas packages". Surely, after paying so much for shipping, there would be tracking included. There is a UPS store a 10 min walk away. You might want to consider going there, or going to a different USPS location. read more

I had to swoop in with the 5 stars here because Pat gave me the best service I've ever had at a post office in my adult life. I went in to this location while I was running errands in union, and I had to ship out a package. My item was going to be shipped in a medium size priority mail box, and I grabbed a package of bubble wrap as well. Pat came over and asked if my item was over 2 or 3 pounds. I wasn't sure so he weighed it, and said it would be cheaper to use a box that wasn't flat rate. He also said he had packing materials another customer left if I didn't mind using those. (The materials were in brand new condition). He didn't charge me for the box, and with the money I saved on the bubble wrap and the shipping, it was about $8 less! Dang. As far as Post Offices go, I find the location on Bow St in Union Square to be actually quite pleasant and easy to visit. I've been both after work and on weekends, and I've never had to wait in a crazy line. Additionally, the employees there get the job done; not a lot frills in the transaction, but I tend to prefer it that way. And another, important bonus: it's well-situated around many other shops worth visiting. Namely, Union Square Donuts is right next door; you shouldn't really need an excuse to get one of their donuts, but if you do, now you've got it. Also, across the street is Hub Comics and Bloc, for both your entertainment and beverage needs. read more

The people (specifically the women) at this location are absolutely miserable human beings. They must hate their jobs from the way they treat people. I was trying to drop off a package and was met with a very unhelpful, unfriendly and confrontational older women. Will absolutely never be going back to this post office, even though it's 60 seconds from my front door. read more

The poor customer service problems continue. The Friday lady started an argument with me while I was *on the phone with someone else* and her male colleague backed her up in giving me attitude. Ironically, he was telling me to not give HIM attitude. It's people like this that give unions a bad name. If I could give negative stars I would. I have never interacted with such rude and condescending staff anywhere that I have ever gone. The older man that "helped" me, asked me multiple times if I "could even read" when I asked him a question. Don't go here if you can help it. I stopped to get stamps - there was a line, which is normal right now, with 3 people inside, 1 person + me outside. The woman here hates her job, complains constantly, and is slow as molasses. Her answer to everything is "I don't know". After several experiences with an older brunette woman at this location (She is VERY angry at life!) I think this employee should be: a) FIRED! or b) get re-trained in customer service. (I think she has a "RACE" problem. Where she thinks the color of her skin makes her better than some customers) This is NOT her business! She is an employee - yet she treats customers literally like feces. I've observed her and I've had several awful experiences with her - to the point I drive to the Cambridge location now to avoid her. It is out of my way but I now refuse to bring my packages there - I came to believe she was holding onto my packages so there were late (I started asking for a printed receipt and she was clearly upset at my requests) VERY angry person - I do NOT recommend this location to anyone. read more

The old U.S.P.S. in Somerville on Washington Street was the loveliest. It was large, uncrowded, and a historic landmark. About two weeks ago that location closed and was condensed to a storefront on Bow Street. All I can say about the new location is: Don't go. Go to Cambridge. Go to Boston. Go all the way to Needham if you need to, but avoid this locale. The new location is constantly PACKED like sardines. You will wait no less than 15 minutes in a 10 person line, out the door. Once the weather turns sour and cold again, that line will be miserable. I go at an odd hour in the middle of the day and this is still the case. TL;DR: Avoid avoid avoid at all costs read more

The clerk was very rude with me and shut the door in my face when I asked if I could just grab a flat rate box (literally three feet from the entrance). It's a shame. read more

An absurdly small post office given the local population. My biggest complaint is for years they've had a profoundly rude person on staff; just look at the other reviews. An old blond woman who hates her job and picks fights with customers makes this a place to avoid. If you ask her to do anything that involves actual work, expect a level of rudeness that will shock. Her hostility is on full display towards immigrants and Asian people. This woman needs to be transferred, retired or sacked. read more

Guys, stop hating on the post office. Here's what happens when I go here: I walk through the clearly marked entrance. I choose the envelope/stamp/package I want to use. I wait in line. The clerk scans my items. Then the items get mailed. Some period of time later, the postal service delivers those items to where I have mailed them to (as close as Somerville, as far as Thailand). That is all I ask and require of the postal service, and they deliver (har har) on that promise. Plus, when you are done, you can get a donut next door, coffee across the street, or do a yoga class to destress. read more

We had to renew our child's passport and Luigi was amazing! Quick, friendly and relaxed, we were in and out. Had we had the form filled out prior to arrival, it would have been even quicker. I called to make an appointment. We paid to get the photo done on site. Word to the wise, don't forget to double check the list of documents you need to bring (SS#, birth certificate, both parents with ID and debit or cash). I live less than a minute's walk from this post office but I usually get in my car and drive to one across town rather than use it, because the staff here is so confrontational and rude. They enforce rules that I'm pretty sure aren't even the Post Office's official policies. They throw a hissy fit if you mail a package that isn't in an official post office box and will yell at you and refuse to mail it until you buy one of their envelopes from them. I was waiting in line and saw every customer get into a confrontation with the counter people because they are so short-fused. read more

The woman works on Friday is horrible. I was trying to do an international shipping. I have another piece of paper to write down the address. At first, she tried to criticism that the paper was in the wrong place ( the box is very big, so plenty of room for custom form and priority mailing address label. Then she started to complain that the writing is not clear enough, and she couldn't see the last page. ( which is not true, I could see it no problem). She required that I did it again because of the custom requirement. So I asked her for another custom form, she refused to give me another form by saying that why waste another piece of paper, just write it over the previous one. I couldn't understand her logic?? If I wrote it again on top of the first time , the handwriting can be really messed up and the custom can't see it at all. Anyway, she refused to give me another clean form. What a terrible customer service!! I went there many times before and other employees never gave me a hard time like that. When I went back, the other gentlemen finished it with no problem. I know there is nowhere I can go to make a complaint except here since they are all protected by the union. But this should not be a reason that the employees can treat the customers however they like it since they know nothing can happen to them. New location is a nightmare. If there are five people in line, the tiny room is crowded. Parking is dangerous; City of Somerville had bright idea of reconfiguring spaces outside of Bloc 11 coffeehouse so that you have to back into them amidst ongoing (and generally speeding/frenzied) traffic coming from Union Square. (Traffic & Parking continues to peddle fiction that backing in is "safer"; City is very adept at rationalizing even its most half-baked plans.) Imagine what this lilliputian USPS facility is like at holiday time. A prescription for insanity. read more

I've only been in here twice, but both times were a bad experience. One lady at the counter was really sour and rude, not to me but to someone else in line who didn't deserve it. Hey, it doesn't cost anything to be polite, right? Also I went to pick something up and literally waited TEN MINUTES along with everyone else in line while they fished around trying to find it. From what I could see they are doing a really poor job, the place is a disorganized disaster in the back and employees are either struggling or have bad attitudes. If you need a post office I recommend the one hidden away in Davis Square, or anywhere else, this one stinks. read more

I obliged as I wasn't in a rush and the lady clearly was. But the woman behind the counter said "that's not how it works honey" and refused to let her cut the line (even though we were the only 2 in the store). Rudest people in the world work here. They yell at customers and are extremely unpleasant. Yes, my packages get mailed out. It's a fairly straightforward process, just expect to be berated and treated poorly for wanting to mail something. Place is awful. Post office had a sign that read "Due to technical difficulties some of our systems are down." It didn't say "we are closed" and there was a woman behind the counter. Doors were locked so I waved and asked "Are you completely closed?" and she shouted "Read the sign!" She seemed to be on a personal phone call during this time. Least she could do is explain the problem and let me know where to go. Or write a clearer sign. Usually, I have a good experience with USPS in general however yesterday was the last time I'll ever go to the Bow St. office. I don't know where they find some of these people but they HATE their jobs with a passion. Miserable, angry, unfriendly, rude and arrogant. I dropped off 3 packages and the woman at the counter looked at me suspiciously. She started playing the game "21 questions" with me. After I patiently and politely answered all her questions she started making racist and derogatory comments out of nowhere to me and then tried making a joke out of it. I don't think this woman was mentally right and then she looked to her co-worker for support and to back her up. I was completely disgusted and disturbed. This location needs a MAJOR change in its workforce/culture at this location. I really hope USPS upper management sees this and does something about this location. I like this post office, though I've only been during off-peak hours. Twice I went there to mail something small, and I was helped a heavyset black guy behind the desk. He was really friendly, and he even did little extra things like wrapping what I'd wanted to mail in a waterproof cover for free. I'm used to going to post offices and being greeted by passive aggression, so this was a refreshing change. From looking at other reviews, I think my positive experience might just be circumstantial, but anyway, if you happen to go when it's not busy (e.g. mid afternoon on a weekday) and you get the same guy I got, you may actually enjoy your time at the post office. read more

After 3 failed attempts to get my infant son's passport, I was cursing the P.O. I'm looking at YOU Arlington, Brookline and Malden! Then the clouds parted and I met Ronda!
