Going to the post office is hit or miss when it comes to customer service. You'll either encounter a nice person behind the counter or an arrogant person behind the counter. At the Forest St location in Medford, I didn't have much of a problem from the previous times I've gone here except with what happened the last time I went here. The most recent time I went here, it was my turn in line and when I brought something up to the counter to get mailed, the woman behind the counter responded in a rudely manner to me because I guess I apparently didn't prepare it correctly to get it sent out for delivery according to her. Instead of giving me an attitude over the mistake I had made, she could have been a lot more helpful and professional with fixing the problem. I ended up just walking out and leaving without mailing what I needed to get mailed and went somewhere else to get it mailed because I didn't want to deal with her no more after how she treated me. I get that it's stressful working for the post office and I can understand that postal workers deal with a lot of disrespectful and impolite customers all the time, but since postal workers are government employees, it's like they have an excuse to be unpleasant with anyone because they have high job security. read more

I just spent 55 minutes in line with 2 people in front of me and 3 people standing in line behind me. There were 4 clerks behind 2 service windows. Only one of them was working. Rest of them were talking among themselves, and from time to time 'checked us out'. They were hoping we will give up waiting, I guess. The post office is dirty, clerks unpleasant, and the historical mural, now covered by a dusty piece of a disgusting plastic is really something to look at. Medford citizens must like it, nobody is objecting to this service, but I do not like to come here anymore. I recommend you avoid this post office and go somewhere else, unless you want to spend your time. No wonder post office can't reach profitability with such workers and such attention to clients. If I could give zero stars I would. I use post offices all over the country and the one in Medford is by far the worst I have ever been to starting with the completely useless people that work there. You will completely fill out your package info and they will say it's not done correctly. You'll ask for help and they'll tell you they can't help you. You ask for help and they'll tell you they don't speak English. You speak to them in the languages they are speaking to ea h other behind the glass because you can speak multiple languages and they'll tell you they don't speak that language.... Customer service? Any service? The website is unusable. It only becomes a worse waste of time trying to get answers at this post office. Don't get me wrong. The customer facing folks are nice and trying to work within a hopelessly mismanaged operation. Current case: I needed to send some documents to Russia. I pay all kinds of fees to ensure that I know when the envelope arrives. Except it doesn't arrive. It took over a week from Medford to Newark. Then a few days from Newark via London to Moscow. In Moscow it disappeared. Should I check Siberia? Trying to get help locating the shipment from Medford ... it is out of our hands. We call you in a couple of days what to do next. This was 3 weeks ago. Can I get a refund? Oh , you have to do this on the website. Ha. Easy. Except that it isn't. The absolute worst post office ever encountered. One time didn't get mail for weeks - they never answer the phone. Put my mail on hold while on vacation and they never delivered it - told me they were short staffed - said I'd get it by 8 that night - Supervisor gave me what he said was his number to call him and he'd deliver it - I called the number - it was a wrong number. Unbelievable! And they truly don't care because they're holding the cards and you're at their mercy if you want your mail. Very sad. read more

Not so much a knock on this office in particular, but, on the service as a whole. I mailed a tax return on the 13th going to Kansas City. Here it is, 10 days later, and the piece is still still "in transit". The Pony Express provided better service and was more reliable. I usually wouldn't rate a place such as a post office unless it stands out in a good or bad way. Unfortunately, most of it is bbbaaadddd here. Poor customer service, long lines, a confusing queue at times. Avoid it on weekends or right before close during the week. It's rare to see a smiling face here, either from customers or the workers. One extra star for the beautiful, colonial artwork you can stare at while waiting for the 27 people in line in front of you get done with their bizznass. Today I went to the post office to return a textbook for my daughter, not only did I wait in line for 15 minutes, when I got up the be served, the man that "helped" me was actually one of the most careless human being I have ever had an encounter with. I am not sure of his name but he was pretty young and Asian. I did not have a envelope to send it back with because I planned on buying it there. The man was so rude about that and made it a huge issue for absolutely no reason, they sell envelopes for that reason... no? He threw the envelope down and says "you know people usually do this at home." He proceeded to be rude and then CHARGED me for the whole roll of tape even though I only used about 3 pieces to cover the label. He even told me (not asked) if I could tape it somewhere else and GET BACK IN LINE (there was ATLEAST 20 people in line.) He just did not even seem grateful to have a government job. One word: awful. I've lived in Medford for seven years and I've never experienced a US Post Office with such poor customer service. I recently moved apartments within Medford and signed up for mail forwarding to my new location. Even after paying for this service, my mail was STILL delivered to my old address. The residents at my old apartments even gave my mail back to the mailman. However, it was nowhere to be found. Usually, my visits to the US post office are long and never ending frustration but today was exceptionally quick and positive. I came into the 20 Forest St Medford location around noon today for passport service. Because of covid protocol I had to make an appointment beforehand on their website. Upon arrival there were no clear directions on where to go for passport service but i was able to flag down a nice man who relayed my appointment standings to the front desk. The efficient and professional US post office clerk honored my prebooked appointment and stayed a few moments passed her shift to complete the passport services I required. I believe my experience was well handled and managed because of the staff that were on deck today and thank them for breaking the chain of bad US post office experience. read more

The people behind the counter are generally helpful and pleasant. However, as of Feb 2022, the service counter was cut to just one person. This is unacceptable for the number of people who use the PO, especially in the late afternoon. I have a business and send several packages out to customers every day. Since they've made the change, I have waited in line anywhere between 15 and 40 minutes to drop my packages off, every single time. People used to be able to leave prepaid packages at an unmanned window, for postal employees to process later, but lately they've been drawing the metal shutters closed at the unmanned windows so everyone has to wait in line. In any case, in my experience, if you leave prepaid packages without somebody scanning them immediately and getting a receipt for them, at least one of the packages will be lost, and then you have no receipt to prove you dropped them off. For now even though it's more expensive, I'm going to be using UPS instead. The UPS Store on High St usually has no line. I just don't have time to wait at the PO. Don't go here unless you are just buying stamps or picking up a package. These guys are LIFERs and they seem to think that "guarenteed overnight delivery to the west coast by 12 noon the next day" means "sit on your arse and stare at the package on the shelf until 12 noon the next day". Judging from the time stamps on the tracking, my package did not even make it to LOGAN AIRPORT by noon the next day. Fail. Ditto for their substation in West Medford, as they are held hostage by the main Medford office's incompetence. Never trust them with anything time sensitive. Ever. Did you know that if your tracking information says "Out for Delivery," but the package goes through the Medford Post Office, it means that it actually sits in the basement with "6,000 other packages" for up to a week, and so sorry that this was a Christmas present, but you're shit out of luck. I'm fortunate that my postman doesn't destroy my mail or refuse to pick up stamped mail. He does, however, leave elastic bands all over my front lawn that I have to go and clean up. Most post offices don't have parking, either, so cut them a break (though I agree with the poster who says what they do have is mismanaged... let's face it: some people in Medford have juice and the rest of us sit waiting for our package to leave the post office for a week.) I had a package that was GUARANTEED (yeah right) by NOON. At 1:15 it's handed to me, 75 minutes late. I check online and the driver had manually entered that he had left it (sig. waived) at 11:47. The guy HANDED it to me. So I called the PO on Forest Street where it was departed from. The person answering the phone began to tell me lies about how impossible it would be to prove it, and its heresay. From now on, I am forced to have EVERY SINGLE POSTAL DELIVERY PERSON sign a form letter agreeing to the EXACT TIME that the mail was delivered. The meta-data on pictures does not lie (unlike the USPS). Whoever answers the phones at the Forest Street PO in Medford, MA should really look into communication skills. Not only is having your drivers MANUALLY enter info (which can be tracked) one way of showing when it actually arrived, or they could use the GPS that is in the TRUCK to see what time it stopped at this particular address. I spend $40 to have something shipped with a guaranteed delivery time, and all they have to do is manually enter that they delivered or attempted to earlier than the cut-off time and there are NO RAMIFICATIONS. I feel bad for the USPS, Most of the workers try hard and do their job correctly.....Too bad they are going out of business for not staying ahead of the times, and for HORRIFIC customer service. Spend the extra money in Medford and use a different delivery service. I see a long string of 1 star reviews......they must be used to it at the Forest street location. And NUMEROUS reports of issues with overnight delivery. THat should help my case in getting my money back.... read more

This place is the WORST post office I have ever been to. No parking what so ever. they have parking on the side but it's shared by everyone in Medford (bad management). if you park in front 15 min parking you will get a ticket because you will have to wait longer in line. I go there, tell them I need to drop off this package (which I have prepared and printed the label at home) and that's it. Most of the time one of the employees is going to tell me, leave your package on the counter, we will take care of it. That's the only service I have used this location for. This one star review is for the Medford, MA post office. First issue is this: mail is delivered most days around 5:30-6pm. Why so late every single day? The post office workers say it is because we just happen to be the last house to get our mail. In fact, we aren't the last house on our street. Sometimes our mail has been delivered around noon or 2 or 3pm. Second issue is this: last summer my husband and I were overseas for three weeks. My sister was coming to our house every other day to care for our cats. Five days before we were to return to the US, my sister reports that our mail was delivered. I thought I had made a mistake in selecting the accumulated mail delivery end date but I checked and I did had the correct date. I didn't complain to the post office when we returned but should have. Fast forward to today, October 1 for my third issue: my husband and I had set up a mail hold for September 26 to September 30. Yesterday which was September 30, our accumulated mail wasn't delivered. We last checked the front porch late in the evening and no mail was delivered. This morning, October 1, I drove to the Medford Post Office on Forest Street to demand my mail. The girl behind the counter found my mail and gave it to me. I asked her why the mail wasn't delivered on the mail hold delivery date which was September 30 and she had no reason or excuse for it. I asked to see a supervisor and she told me that person would meet me over there (at a door to the sorting room from the main lobby). I waited and waited and twice the girl had requested the supervisor come to the door but no one came. I got fed up and left. Now here I am writing a lengthy complaint. Once about a year ago a mail carrier was delivering our mail and I asked why it was being delivered so late and he told me the people working in the sorting room in this post office were fighting amongst themselves and this caused the delay in the carriers being able to pick up the mail earlier in the day. I am convinced this particular branch of the postal service is severely dysfunctional and someone higher up needs to crack heads to get this place working efficiently. I have never had an issue with the nearby Arlington post office and the one in Winchester, MA two neighboring towns. My husband says we are missing some bills. Some show up and while others don't. I was confused as to why they were refusing to mail out my package, the woman at the front immediately sent me to speak with the supervisor. I was told that since it was labeled for the 8th and today is the 10th, I could no longer use that label. I explained that with the massive storm we had on Monday and Tuesday, I was not able to got to the post office. There are also the larger boxes that they can use and put a key in your box to get any larger sized mail. I don't usually write bad reviews, but I have a big problem with this teller (I'll call him "Mr. D" just to avoid identifying him on a public forum) at this facility, and I have had them numerous times. He is a racist, and very unprofessional. I have seen him getting into arguments with others, too, so I have to believe this is a pattern. Today's incident went like this. I had a made up mail with precise measurements. The box was 35x12x12, which would avoid a ballon surcharge. Mr. D measured the box with a tape measure, but not straight, as a result getting the measurement slightly over 12 inches, which he puts down as "13 inches." I don't claim to know if it was intentional or not, but he claimed it was 13 inches each instead of 12 inches, resulting in a different postage cost with a balloon surcharge, telling me to discard the label. I asked him to measure it again, straight. Or better yet, let me do it. He refused these requests, and sent me away, mouthing some racial comments (not sure he realized that). I, fully knowing that my measurements were correct, brought it to another USPS branch in Cambridge (it was the only one open at that time). Of course it was accepted (they measured it there, too). This is not the first time Mr. D tried to pull such an act. This branch seems to have the lowest reviews online, and I have to think he is solely responsible for it, because other tellers at this location are rather nice! I think trying to overcharge is a crime, and with such simple method. Measuring the box "crooked." His comments to me were rather troubling, too, but I won't get into that here. read more

The 2 stars are not for the post office itself but the drivers. I witnessed my package being thrown and when I confronted the driver nicely at first he didn't care at all. He just shook his head. I can see if he has had a bad day but to thrown a package that could be fragile upstairs is ridiculous. I disagree with these negative reviews. I go to the Medford PO quite often and I find the people there to be quite friendly and helpful. I tend to go on off peak hours, but I've been when it's busy and they don't treat you any differently. Go to FedEx and UPS when it's busy and you'll wait in line too, and pay 5-10x as much to ship your package. read more

I have had poor experiences here for two years. Long, slow lines, not enough employees, and failing computers. But I suck it up because it is the nearest post office. But when I was there earlier this week, it was an eye-opening experience. The woman in front of me noticed the mural above the teller window, and found it extremely offensive. To me, it looked like an old mural, depicting a piece of history, but completely inappropriate for a public setting. I spoke to the woman as we were leaving. She had complained to a high-ranking postal official and his response was that he has multiple complaints each week about this triptych painting, but there is nothing anyone can do to change it. The painting was commissioned in 1938 and it depicts slave work and the "golden triangle (Africa-Caribbean-Medford)," and is intended to be a historical monument to the rum and molasses trade which was an important part of Medford trade way back when. Yes, I get this. That doesn't mean that it is appropriate to maintain this mural in a government-owned building. It belongs in a museum. read more

Received a letter postmarked from a woman in Virginia to a woman in England. ENGLAND. The street name isn't similar and it says ENGLAND, UK. There is no zip code. Mail person ignored it still sitting in our mailbox for two weeks. Today received a letter that said "Return to Sender". Sender's address was Commonwealth Ave, Boston. This after my third call to complain, which marked the first time anyone seemed concerned about this sort of thing. read more
