I want to like Urth Caffe so badly and have been to their LA locations a handful of times in the past decade to say its overpriced and overhyped. I finally came back last Saturday to get a beverage to go just for the sake of it. I placed my order online coming back from Heisler Park. I decided to try their new affogato boba drink for $10. The order took about 15 minutes to be ready. I showed up at their pick-up window inside the cafe. It's a small area right beside the long line of people waiting to order to dine-in. My drink was smaller than expected. The boba was placed on top of the affogato and it looked sloppily made. Upon first sip, the espresso was strong which I loved. I stirred the entire drink and tried it mixed and it tasted better but was way too sweet. The boba was bland but had decent texture to it. I don't think I like the combination of boba and affogato together, it confuses me. The overall drink was okay and not worth $10. read more

It was pretty crowded, as the line extended onto the sidewalk, but the line goes by fairly fast if you are looking at the menu figuring out what to order. Their menu is very large and overwhelming with so many options. - pistachio latte: 9.8/10. One of the best coffees I have ever had. The coffee was strong and not overly sweet, and the pistachio flavor was so rich and decadent, not artificial at all. I would definitely order this again. - eggs benedict canyon with sliced ham (on latkes): 8.5/10. Get this with latkes as the base! The salad was light and refreshing, and the eggs benedict was tasty. The eggs were a little bit over cooked though :( - banana walnut waffle: 8.9/10. I was pleasantly surprised as to how much I liked this dish. The waffle was crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. It was topped with plenty of banana slices and walnuts, and the side of syrup lets you adjust the sweetness to your liking. Will be trying their other waffle flavors! - sunrise pizza: 6.6/10. This is a very unique and interesting pizza idea as it is topped with breakfast toppings, but it was pretty average tasting. Too much cheese for my preference. - prosciutto and cheese breakfast panini: 6.3/10. I love how their sandwiches all come with a tomato dipping sauce. This particular one was loaded with cheese, not enough prosciutto/meat ratio to the cheese. The cheese has a very plastic-y texture. This dish is nothing special and wasn't very tasty. Very cheesy so maybe if you like grilled cheese you would like this. Their pastries are all what you would expect. Pretty tasty, can't go wrong with any of them. The fruit tart was particularly refreshing because all the berries they used were so sweet, and the pistachio croissant had a good amount of pistachio filling. I hadn't been here in a couple of years and the green tea boba is even better than I remember! They used to serve it in a huge tall glass but I kind of like that they're serving it in a smaller to-go cup now -- perfect for taking on the go if you didn't finish it. I also got the breakfast sausage and orange juice and it was the best I've ever had of either. Only reason I can't give 5 stars is because the line to order food sometimes goes out into the street and it's really hard to not get in people's way and vice versa. I feel like they should coordinate the line a bit better, maybe have it wrap around the side instead of going into the street. But the location, easy parking, and ambiance makes this place a real gem. I love coming here. read more

I was visiting family in Newport Coast area and this is one of their favorite brunch/lunch spots. Its located in Laguna really close to the ocean. It has a blue globe in the front. Its on a busy street so parking can be hard. You order at the counter and they bring it out to your table. They have some seats inside, but the main seating is on the front patio. This place can get crazy busy- lines way outside down the stairs. The menu is inside but they have some print ones you can view. Its a massive menu- so its hard to choose. I got the margherita pizza- which was really good. The crust was crispy yet airy and the toppings were flavorful. My only complaint is I wanted more basil and maybe the tomatos cut up a bit more. We also got Tuna sandwich, quesadilla, tamales, a latte abd a cookie. All great! I would absolutely go back and try more stuff. Overall experience 4/5 read more

I came on a Saturday morning and got lucky to find parking on Cedar Way, the residential street right behind the café. Even though it was busy, the service was fast and great. I got a tuna sandwich and mac & cheese, loved them both! They have both indoor and outdoor seating. My Poach Di Parma was good: a nice combination of flavors with perfectly poached eggs. The scrambled eggs I shared were well-prepared and the Urth Tiramisu was exceptionally tasty. This cafe offers an unusually wide variety of choices and I liked that. The only two things I found unsatisfactory on this visit were: 1. After we ordered at the counter, left a generous tip and our food was dropped off at our table, no server or staff member returned to see if everything was "okay." 2. Pistachio coffee was very rich, more like a dessert than a drink. Latte was bold, which I like. Benedict--the ciabatta was dry and stale. Please go with other options. Finally made it to Urth Cafe and can't believe I actually waited this long. It's as good as everyone says! We enjoyed brunch on a Monday morning, and the line was very short and quick to move. I am obsessed with the blended chai boba - it was so flavorful and refreshing and the boba was perfectly chewy. I also enjoyed the ham Benedict on the potato's and it had wonderful flavor and the eggs were perfectly poached. My party also loved the beef hash dish and their parfait - we left no crumbs behind. The potatoes at the bottom tasted like rancid, the fish tasted so fishy and old, and my eggs were still super undercooked. I love poached eggs, but the whites were still very watery. Came here recently. Had not been in several years. It's right on PCH, but don't expect a view of the ocean. It's pretty much open seating. First, though, you stand in line perusing the menu as you wait to order at the counter. Order, pay, get a number placard and find a table. I would suggest one of your party grab a table while you (and others) stand in line. If you order a coffee or similar, they will hand it to you at the counter. It will then be a balancing act to your chosen seat. Honestly, it's too much work for me. I like the old fashion "take my order and deliver it to my table" approach. Anyway, the food is ok. Interesting, but their omelets come with a green salad. If you want say potatoes instead, it's a $4 upcharge. I got the sausage and potato omelet and it was alright. Wifey initially wanted the huevos rancheros, but they were "out." Not sure how you run out of huevos rancheros, but anyway... Also, on regular coffee, you get one...one refill. I took my mom out because I wanted us to enjoy a nice meal together, but the entire experience was ruined. Our smoothie came first, then several minutes later the waffle, then the coffee, and my mom's cake didn't arrive until almost 20 minutes after the first item. By the time her cake finally came, I had already finished my entire meal. What's the point of going out to eat together if everyone is served at completely different times? A restaurant should serve the table together so people can actually enjoy their meal with each other. To make things worse, the cake didn't even require cooking--it just needed to be taken out of the fridge and placed on a plate. There was no reason for such a long delay. The poor timing, lack of coordination, and disappointing customer service completely ruined what was supposed to be a nice outing with my mom. I used to really love this place, but I went back for the first time in about two years and had a terrible experience. We were seated on the patio, and the entire time we were eating, pigeons were everywhere. The moment someone stepped away from the table--even for a second--three or four pigeons would immediately fly over and start eating the food. Even while I was sitting there, pigeons kept landing on the table right in front of us. When they flew away, they were flapping their wings so close that you could smell them, and it was honestly pretty gross. The second people got up to leave, pigeons would swarm the tables and eat whatever food was left. It felt really unsanitary and unpleasant. However, the biggest issue was the service. After asking four separate times for a $10 smoothie, it didn't arrive until we had already finished our meal. I even brought it up to the manager on the third request, but there was no response or sense of urgency. It wasn't until I became visibly frustrated the fourth time that he finally acknowledged the situation--and even then, there was no apology or effort to make things right. You come for the vibe and because there's nothing offensive about the place but as far as the food goes, it's pretty bland and the service is not great either. We came on a Saturday midday and not surprisingly it was pretty busy. While you're waiting in line, you'll want to figure out you want to eat because once you get to the counter to order, they're pretty impatient regarding your order. They were pretty short and impatient, which, maybe if they're dealing with constant people they get annoyed but this is their job. We got a wide variety of food, the Diablo panini sandwich, a pizza, a Mac and cheese, a salad, and their chicken soup. We also ordered drinks which will take a VERY long time to make (we didn't get outside until we finished eating) so be prepared for that. My panini was pretty bland although the jalapeños were pretty spicy. The soup had a sour taste which I didn't like. The pizza was very average. The best part was the salad. A very good vinegarette albeit a little heavy and fresh ingredients. But otherwise it was a disappointing meal. My drink was the Japanese latte which, given they have Macha drinks, I thought this would be more like a brown tea but it was a green tea latte. Not great. I really really love this place! One of the reasons I moved to Laguna Beach was because of this restaurant. I love sitting outside and doing work. The vibe is real. The only thing that can improve is adding plugs so that people can charge their computers or phones. My husband and I went on a staycation in Laguna Beach, and this was our second time visiting Urth Caffé. Our first visit was at their Orange location, which we really enjoyed, so when we passed by the Laguna location, we were excited to stop in for brunch before heading home. We sat outside, and the overall vibe reminded us of Island Vintage Café in Waikiki, Hawaii -- relaxed, open-air, and beachy. The food was good, classic brunch fare -- satisfying, but not quite as amazing as we remembered from the Orange location. The real reason I even wanted to write this review in the first place was to sh!t on one of their new matcha drinks called the Aloha [something]. I really wish I took a picture of it right when they served it because it looked so messy and colorful -- not in a good way, but in a wtf did I just order way. I remember it had strawberry purée and blue spirulina, so I thought it sounded interesting. It definitely was... just not in a good way. My first sip made me audibly Ew out loud. It tasted like pure syrup with zero hint of matcha. I even stirred it, thinking maybe I just got a bad few sips, but the entire drink tasted like liquid sugar, genuinely like diabetes in a cup. I'm not trying to be funny or dramatic, I'm being dead serious. On top of that, I was more than halfway done with my meal and had to go up to the register to ask for it because I guess they forgot to bring it out. Absolutely loved this place! The atmosphere is beautiful and relaxing perfect for a sunny brunch or coffee date. The menu is impressively extensive, with so many delicious options that it's genuinely hard to choose. I ordered the Napoleon cake and it was huge I ended up taking it home and enjoying it for three more days!
