Came to try this spot after reading the reviews. My expectations were high for the matchas here, especially the banana matcha. I stopped by Labor Day morning around 9am (9/7), it looked pretty empty, just two parties ahead of me waiting for their drinks. The coffee shop was quaint and there was ample street parking today which was cool. I ordered the banana matcha with oat milk and a cinnamon roll. I sat at the bar stool area while waiting for my order. The wait time for it was kind of wild. I didn't get my drink and pastry until 45 min after ordering. The first sips of the banana matcha were super underwhelming and the matcha itself felt super grainy like it wasn't whisked enough. Small pieces of banana and those stringy parts of the banana were in the drink and honestly was pretty unpleasant. Additionally, the cinnamon roll icing to dough ratio was really sad and lacked flavor. The shape however, was nice but that's about it. I'm glad I tried this spot, but I will not be returning. It's simply overpriced and mediocre.
The cutest coziest coffee shop located right by the beach! The coffee here is amazing and has a smooth, rich flavor. Their bear mochi waffles are so yummy as well. I love the ambiance here and the service was wonderful.
My matcha was good, but my friend said her latte was a bit too grainy. The prices are also a bit much. i ended up paying close to $9 because of the additional oat charge fee. Service was ok. The inside had a funky smell. Super cute concept and the presentation of the match was beautiful. Some seating indoor and outdoor. Metered street parking. Close and convenient location to the beach.
Cute matcha shop in Laguna Beach! I was a little worried about parking when I got there but got lucky with a meter parking spot. Ordered the banana matcha and a latte along with a lemon and cinnamon roll. The owners are super sweet and kind, I highly recommend checking out this cute shop if you are in the area!

Anyways, in Laguna Beach, the matcha is reportedly the best Sweetened (half) with agave and oat milk, totally passed the first sip test Pre-stir, you might give a skeptical how Post-stir, you might be like wow The pastry section is small and sweet Large cinnamon roll and muffin type treat I did not see the mochi waffle option, so I might of missed that I think Sorry, I just got a drink Rapport Coffee is nearby too, if you want a croissant to head to the beach Great for a little outdoor fun within reach Overall, glad I had some courage to brave the alley Around this little shop, I hope people rally! xoxo -Op
I can't wait to go back to The Spicy Bean Lab. I got the Blueberry Cheesecake Croissant and the Black Sesame Oat Latte, and both were so good!! The staff were very helpful, and the shop was cute and well-kept. I'm already dreaming about that Blueberry Cheesecake Croissant and Black Sesame Oat Latte. I wish we had one in North County San Diego.
I want to start off by saying that the service was great! I believe it was the owner who took my order. She was so nice and attentive. I went on a random Thursday to do some work. The location is super tiny but they have WiFi and I was able to sit inside. I asked for recommendations since it was my first time, she recommended the cinnamon latte since I don't like strong coffee. It was okay - when I saw the color I was worried. I tried it and it was just okay. I could taste the cinnamon but it seemed watered down. I think what stole the show was the biscoff croffle that I got. It was the perfect sweet treat. Overall, I liked the snacks better than the coffee. I would come back to try their matcha as I saw people order it and the color was giving what it needed. I also wanna try their bear mochi waffles, so I would come back but not for coffee.

I really wanted to like this place because of all the hype, but honestly it was disappointing. The Einspänner was way too strong and the foam was super watery, nothing like other Einspänners I've had and actually enjoyed. We also tried the sesame drink and that one was honestly just nasty, neither of us liked it. Unfortunately, neither drink was enjoyable and I really don't understand the hype.

Im not much of a matcha guy but they were actually all pretty damn good. I didnt get too much of the grassy flavor I usually get when I try matcha. The signature flight was also good, the foams were fireee. The mochi bears were a lil bit expensive but they were good for a quick lil snack. We are forsure coming back here soon
I've had this place bookmarked for a while, and decided to visit them the other day when it was a beautiful and warm day in Laguna Beach. The coffee shop is a small shop, with some bar seating and a few high top tables. They offer matchas, coffees, and drink flights, which I thought was so cool! There was only one person working at the time, and it was the son of the owner. He did an amazing job at explaining the menu for our first time. We ended up getting the OG Medley drink flight which came with four small drink flights: matcha ube latte, hojicha vanilla latte, London fog, and black sesame misugaru. My favorite of the four was definitely the ube latte and London fog. You can tell their flavorings are authentic, and not artificial. We also got the bear mochi waffle bites with pepperjack that came as a two piece, which was also very delicious! They've only opened their store since October 2025, but we realized that we've actually had them before at a farmer's market in Tustin! So glad to see them thrive, and hope they continue to do so!
The Spicy Bean Lab is SUCH a cute spot, and everything we tried was so good! We got the strawberry matcha, iced coffee with cold foam, croffle, cinnamon roll, and both the Nutella and cheddar mochi bears. The cinnamon roll was the absolute star of the show. Warm, soft, perfectly sweet, and truly one of the best I've had in a while and the fact that it's vegan is insane!! The croffle was also delicious, and the mochi bears were such a fun little treat. The Nutella one was definitely a favorite, but the cheddar was surprisingly good too! The drinks were great as well, the strawberry matcha was refreshing and the perfect color. Everything felt really fresh and thoughtfully made. Service was great, very friendly and provided some great recommendations for us to try. Offered to make any adjustments we needed to our drinks to make sure they were perfect. Definitely a spot I'd come back to, ESPECIALLY for that cinnamon roll. 10/10! read more
This place came up in a Google search for best coffee/matcha shops in Laguna so my husband and I decided to check it out since we were going to be in the area. We were particularly intrigued by their matcha menu. Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of the drinks! The place is VERY small but still had some seating at the window and a couple of tall tables bar stools for 2 people. The inside was very clean and bright but very simple. My husband got a matcha americano which was perfect for him since he likes strong matcha taste without too much milk. The matcha had a nice bright green color and was good quality. Service: 5/5 On a two-day trip to Laguna Beach, this was my favorite coffee shop out of the three I went to. The coffee, the service, and the vibes were excellent. The first day, I was served by the owner, who was kind and made excellent coffee. The second day, one of her employees served me, with her same kindness and enthusiasm. What I appreciated the most about both experiences was the employees' ability to explain the flavor profile on the coffees and ask whether it was made to my liking after it was served. That is above and beyond service that you are not going to get anywhere else. I will return when I'm back in Laguna Beach! read more

Spicy? Yes! But not the kind of Spicy as you would If I was to emphasize it with an "e" Spiceey. In a good way. In a way that the true spice here is In the quality and the essence of the drinks. If you aren't necessarily the coffee snob type, or even if you are, or just want to rid yourself from the chains or mom and pops's use of syrups or loaded sugar, then this is the place. The vibe here is how i like my coffee. Simple, great ingredients, natural and pure. So how good is the coffee? I've never seen my wife, who has coffee daily, finish a cup as long as I've known here...until yesterday. Normally she has a few sips and she is done. The staff member gave me a full explanation of how they source their coffee, how they create their flavors. It was a welcome introduction. I opted for the black sesame Matcha, since I've been on such a Matcha binge recently and havent come across this concoction yet. It was a hit! The flavors worked well together. Also got a Lavender Vanilla cold brew and was surprising how unsweetened it was. unsweetened Also picked up a Red Bean and Ube Waffle (shaped like a bear) and my wife had those gone in 60 seconds. I never was able to try it. Parking is right outside, as it's on the main drag across from the beach. Can't beat the fix coming back from a good surf sesh or a day at the sand. Prices were extremely reasonable (if even on the cheap side) for the quality you get (Ceremonial). Its a perfect size store with a few tables to beat the heat with or grab and go. Definitely my new favorite matcha spot in Laguna. The matcha is strong and I could really taste the quality. Nutty, slightly bitter and perfectly balanced. I love the clean-minimalistic design of the shop and how close it is to the beach! The owner was so sweet, welcoming and knowledgeable. She made sure we were getting exactly what we were looking for! I also love how this shop only uses clean ingredients, quality and the customers satisfaction is definitely a priority here and I can't wait to come back! read more
We stopped by The Spicy Bean Lab while in Laguna Beach and absolutely loved it. The location alone is perfect, just steps from the beach, making it an easy and refreshing stop after our walking adventures! The customer service was 10/10 and very memorable. The drinks were excellent. The Lavender Ice Brew was smooth and refreshing with real infused lavender that was perfect to taste. The Matcha Ice Brew was clean, bright, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. Our kids were also very happy with their strawberry milks and Nutella Bears!! You can really tell this spot cares about the ingredients and how everything is prepared. My boyfriend and I love coffee and this was the best start for our long day driving back to Vegas. I appreciated that Shay was transparent on the ingredients. She was very sweet and thoughtful. It's a small coffee shop yet so cozy and cute. The coffee was amazing, I had the iced spanish latte with the vanilla foam on top with oat milk. I can almost taste it if I think of it hard enough. Service was very friendly! We were welcomed warmly and given time to decide our order without feeling rushed. I ordered the butterscotch latte with pandan cream top. I was told that the flavor profile leaned less sweet but that's my preference so I made no changes. The pandan cream top was SO GOOD I could eat a whole tub of it. My husband got the sesame latte, nutty and well balanced not too sweet. It's very cozy inside so not too much space to spread out but comfortable enough to linger for a bit. I got the mango matcha and it did not disappoint!!! I was a little skeptical because I don't normally go for that flavor of matcha, I was deciding between this or the banana matcha. The very nice cashier said this one would be good if I wanted something refreshing and I definitely needed it. The color's great, the mango flavor (with no artificial flavoring!) was also great and distinct yet didn't take away or overpower the matcha. Overall this was super good!!! read more
We came for their soft opening and everything was DELICIOUS! We loved supporting them at the Tustin farmers market. They have unique drinks and flavors and they are amazing! We got the matcha with ube cold foam and butterscotch cold brew with pandan cold foam. Matcha is strong and ube is prominent with the perfect sweetness. Cold brew is very tasty and pandan is slightly sweet and balance is perfect. Mochi waffles with Nutella had the perfect chewy texture with the cute bear design. The croissants were buttery and flakey and so delicious! All the flavors were different and there are options for everyone! The service was spectacular and all the staff was extremely sweet! Matcha so good, I went twice in one day. For my morning drink, I went with a banana Matcha. The banana purée is made with real bananas which is great but one of my little "things" is that I don't like chunks of banana coming up my straw so I wish the banana was blended more smoothly but other than that, the drink was a 9.5 out of 10. The Matcha is ceremonial grade with that deep earthy flavor that I love. My evening drink was a double Matcha, which was a 10 out of 10. The Spicy Bean Lab is small little coffee shop off PCH in Laguna. It's a family owned business! The workers were super nice and helpful. It was the owner sons. I've seen their mom on TikTok promoting her business so I had to check it out bc I love going to Laguna! They have coffee and matcha and other tea options. My bf got the butterscotch cold brew with pandan cold foam (with almond milk bc he's lactose) and I got the banana matcha Einspanner. The coffee was very good but we didn't really taste the pandan much. The matcha also had a very good flavor. The banana matcha is on the sweeter side though for me but I still really enjoyed it. No disrespect to the coworkers but their matcha is not strong and does not have good flavor. Maybe their coffee is better known but when considering what to get for matcha In Laguna this is not the place. Additionally it took 26 minutes to receive our order. There was only two workers I do feel bad for the woman working today as the man who was working alongside her today was no help and took no initiative to help her. This coffee shop had the best Matcha drinks!!! The regular iced Matcha Latte was delicious. The banana and strawberry Matcha lattes were very good. At this place, you pay for what you get which is quality Matcha. Owner was friendly and very informative when explaining the different Matcha drinks that were offered. It is a very small beach side place. Not much seating but a definite stop if you are in Laguna Beach. I would highly recommend this place and would like to return not only for the Matcha but to try other drinks on the menu. read more

Went here for the first time with my friend and her second time. She said she wanted to give this spot another chance because last time it wasn't the best. The guy taking our order was super nice and overall had a great vibe. I asked for the mango matcha with oat milk and he told me it was an extra charge which was at least nice but it was $1.50 which is a lot more than other places. The mango matcha was nothing to write home about as it was kinda chalky and tasted slightly burnt (maybe from too hot of water). My friend got the coconut matcha and she said it was just okay not great. It wasn't bad overall, just not a place we would go again for a matcha. read more
