I used to come here in 2018 weekly but came here with my friends yesterday and was so incredibly disappointed. First one of the great things was being able to walk the line to see the food. Now you queue up at the far end of the restaurant and red off a menu. My food came and the plate is a third smaller than what I had before. The chimichurri steak was cut so slim and almost raw when I asked for medium rare. The mushrooms and potatoes were good but the emptiness on my smaller plate is jarring. I was most embarrassed for my friends who I recommended to eat here. One had chicken tenders (ordered 3 and received 2) and another had the grass fed burger (small and dry). Both of them had fries and they were room temperature. The beer offerings were limited. Just given what's been happening in the space of farm to table restaurants, Urban Plates was disappointing. I enjoyed the dining space (indoor and outdoor) but that was all I enjoyed about the visit. I'm happy to pay the 3% surcharge posted but the sub-par food will not have me coming back. I'm also happy that Urban Plates made it through COVID. read more

Food here is some of the best I've had while eating out. Organic, wholesome ingredients and dishes like beet salad with goat cheese, sesame broccolini, osso buco, sea bass, and other delights. The staff here are marvelous, too, with a shout out to the young ladies working the registers and serving drinks. Especially Natalie was super helpful tonight. A long time favorite is Javier, who made us feel better after our house burned down in Altadena. He always greets us like old friends when we come in. Ambiance is a bit like a cafeteria. Order at the counter and the food is brought to your table. On a pleasant spring night, sitting outside and watching the passing parade on Lake Avenue is a charming way to enjoy a meal. read more

Ordered the chimichurri grass fed steak (cooked medium rare) with their mash potatoes + roasted Brussels sprouts for my 2 sides (included). The plate was delivered to my table and at first the steak tasted good and then as I continued eating I noticed it got colder and colder as if it was sitting out for a while. It took about 10-15 min for the order to arrive. Flavor wise, tasted subpar. I lost my appetite because it felt cold to the touch for some parts so I didn't bother eating parts of it. The Brussels sprouts were okay, a bit too salty for my liking. The mashed potatoes were good alongside with the gravy. For about $23 bucks I think it could have been executed a bit better considering when I went into the restaurant it was pretty slow. The ambiance is nice because it has a rustic type of atmosphere which I enjoyed and they have plenty of tables for seating, both inside and outside. Would I order it again? For something that pricey I don't think so. read more

Haven't been here in a while. Got the surf and turf. Food was great. Steak was cooked the right way. The shrimp was good just a tad bit small wish it was a bit larger. I got the Brussels sprouts and mushrooms as my sides. Some of the Brussel sprouts needed an extra minute or two on the grill but other than that it was good. The service was great. The mushrooms are a must have if you love mushrooms as a side dish. Food came out in a timely manner. I'd come back here. read more

Tasty healthier options! They have a 13 under $12 meals you can try. Parking is available in the attached structure but you can also park on the street. They do validate and Hudson is free parking if you read the signs while Lake is metered. This was the first time dining-in in a while. During Covid we had take out and pre Covid the set up was similar to other lunch places where guests walk station to station building plates. Now the ordering process is simpler just pick the plate and sides at the order counter and meals come to your table. We got the steak plate and chicken tender plate with sides of fries, brussel sprouts, beets and mashed potatoes. All were good and well seasoned. read more

Used to love this place and go all the time but unfortunately will never be coming back. They have gone downhill. Prices up and less portion is ridiculous. That chicken portion is not even enough for a 5 year old. And they charge almost $20 for that...I'll be better off going anywhere else. The steak plate I ordered was completely cold and I had to swallow each piece as it was impossible to chew. The rainbow carrots and beets which used to be my favorite dish was so oily I got a major heartburn and stomachache right after eating it. Service was less than mediocre. This place needs to do better in every aspect. I will say this place made me laugh because of how terrible the food has become. What a terrible experience. read more

Busy place means good food but I'm not sure about that. For me it was average. The cheeseburger my son ordered was so overcooked that you can see the black marks on it both the bun and the cheese were also burned. But he didn't tell me that it tasted burned until after we left the place. I would have asked for a new one. The steak strips I ordered was ok topped with chimichurri which made it flavorful. The Mac and cheese was ok and the cauliflower a bit overcooked. Felt like cafeteria food. The restaurant is spacious with great customer service. I noticed small groups of people on their lunch break. I believe the restaurant offers membership kind of deal so people can eat here more often with lower prices. Not exactly sure what it is. Maybe a rewards club or something, there are a lot of office buildings nearby and people have lunch here often. read more

This spot is great for a wide variety of options, they have such a big selection of fresh and healthy options everyone will get something they are pleased with. Parker was very helpful taking the order and made the experience very delightful providing a complimentary cookie. They have a warm dinning room with tons of seating and a outdoor patio section as well. The portions were perfect amount food cooked to perfection with great flavors. One of the staff members came from inside the restaurant and set up an umbrella to protect my mother and I from the sun which was blaring down. We didn't ask him to do this. He observed us, and did it on his own accord. Next our server was SO accommodating and courteous. He took our orders patiently and gave us all of our options. One of the servers who brought us our drinks noticed that my dad was wearing a shirt from Zion National park which sparked a lovely conversation. The service was great , Armando A was our server and he was excellent. We sat outside on a beautiful sunny Cali day. It was so nice out . Everyone enjoyed their food . I had a Bloody Mary to start which was delicious. I had the Stephen's chicken sandwich no mushrooms for me but was delicious. We had a good time with my Mom & Dad . I had such a great experience at Urban Plates in Pasadena! From the moment I walked in, everything felt welcoming, clean, and organized. The staff was super friendly and patient while I decided what to order, and the food came out fresh and hot. I ordered the crispy fried chicken plate, and it was honestly amazing. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning. You could tell it was made fresh and not sitting around. The fries were golden and lightly seasoned -- not greasy at all -- and the green beans were cooked perfectly, still bright and flavorful with a nice little snap to them. I also loved the slice of bread on the side; it was soft with a little crisp on the outside and topped with herbs that gave it extra flavor. The sauces they included were a great bonus too -- creamy, flavorful, and they paired perfectly with the chicken. Every part of the plate felt balanced and high quality. I typed lemonade on Yelp to get the address and urban plates popped up...they tryna steal my business from lemonade. Well I fell for it! Since I was with one of my homeboy and not a girl, I hesitated about taking him to lemonade because it's a bit on the slim side. It seems that urban plates got some healthy options,but also a dank ass looking steak at the same time. ^.^ 10 minutes later, we rolled up to urban plates and the homie parallel parked his whip like a G. We got to the line and was a bit confused about how to order. Finally we learned that if you're here for the steak, then please pass by all the peepz that are waiting by the salad bar. Ain't no salad eating rabbits in me today! Give me Mah Meat! the Season and sauce on my steak was great. Seriously, I was so HEPPY. the one serious thing that they got to fix is how to deliver a hot steak. my steak barely had any warmth (it doesn't even deserve the word heat) coming off of it. Since we decided to eat outside...it was literally cold within 5 minutes. Overall I'm digging this alternative to lemonade. Not that I hate lemonade or anything. The sides that came with the steaks were tasty and flavorful. The tomato basil soup I got was wonderfully delicious. But seriously though, turn up the heat on that steak some how or lose some serious business. If I wanted some cold protein I'd have some sushi. read more

I Love DINING IN @ Urban Plates. No. 1: its nicely decorated, high ceilings, and a wide spacious Restaurant where I dont feel elbow to elbow to the next Table. Theres plenty of Tables to choose from to have plenty of Privacy. This is the perfect place to eat intimately esp when youre on a date or even when youre by yourself... Secondly: the Food is very TASTY, Delicious, and satisfyingly filling. Naturally theres a lot of good places to eat from w "good" food. But the next step is the Customer Service. And everyone is Friendly and kind here. Because I really dont care how good the food is, if the service is LACKING? Theres no way I will come back.
