Garlic Shrimp W. Parmesan Butter with Yellow Basmati Rice and Moroccan Chicken Braise

Wendy F.

Finally got to try this place as it opened up with the plaza here. Food/vibe reminds me of a jacks urban eats. Came on a weekday evening and it wasn't too busy. You can order from the kiosk or from the cashier when you walk in. Food itself was really good. The chicken and Brussels had a good flavor and I really liked my shrimp dish. You get to choose two sides with your entree. It's a self seating arrangement with a condiment station and a water tank that's shaped like a giant jug with a sink. Really cool design. Thought the portion size was a little small but it was okay. The parking can be a nightmare since there's so many stores in the plaza and not enough spaces. There's a few other items in the menu I would try but not too bad overall.

Cassandra L.

We came here randomly recently and we were pleasantly surprised. Online ordering was not working. Inside was clean and lots of options for seating inside or out. We managed to make an order on DoorDash, service was quick. They had everything bagged, drinks included. Food was very good and not heavy. We enjoyed the evening with our quick healthy pick up! We will be back

Chimichurri Grass Fed Steak Plate with Sesame Broccolini and Herb Roasted Marble Potatoes

Belinda C.

Urban Plates offers quick, reasonably priced, healthy food with high quality ingredients (i.e., organic, cage-free, grass-fed). It's part of The Davis Collection, the remodeled shopping plaza with Trader Joe's, Ulta Beauty, PetSmart, and Nordstrom Rack on Russell Blvd. Urban Plates opened on October 20, 2025. Spacious, nicely appointed dining room. The restaurant reminded me of Jack's Urban Eats. There's an EAT GOOD neon sign with a bicycle mounted on the wall. The wheels of the bicycle form the double O's. Davis is known as a bicycling community. You order in front from an employee or using a self-service kiosk. You grab a number and seat yourself. Staff will bring food to your table. I ordered Chimichurri Grass Fed Steak Plate with Sesame Broccolini and Herb Roasted Marble Potatoes. Except for the dry piece of grilled bread, everything was cooked properly. You don't even have to specify your desired doneness for the steak: It just comes out perfectly cooked. However, I didn't like the seasoning for any of my plate items, so next time, I would order everything plain. I would skip the $1 Chimichurri Sauce upgrade. I would order the Simply Steamed Broccolini because the sesame oil was too dominant a flavor. The Herb Roasted Marble Potatoes had too much salt and too strong of herbs on the outside of the potatoes. If you cut the potatoes up and mix them around, that helps to balance the seasonings. I liked that the potatoes were multicolored. Menu is appealing. There should be something for everyone. Make sure to check out the weekly Chef Spotlight specials menu. Dessert menu and Beverages menu look promising: Hummingbird Cake, Banana Cream Pie, Mango Tart, Pineapple Coconut Lime Replenisher, the seasonal Strawberry Basil Lemonade, and the seasonal Watermelon Pineapple Mint Basil Replenisher.

Urban Plates? More like Urban Greats! First of all... the chili glazed tofu is absolutely on point. Whoever came up with that recipe deserves a raise... and maybe a trophy. And let's talk about the strawberry basil lemonade... ohhhh weee! That drink is so refreshing it felt like summer and a tropical vacation had a baby. Sweet, crisp, with that perfect hint of basil--I would've happily ordered another before I even finished the first one. The Davis location is in a fantastic spot downtown, and the atmosphere was exactly my kind of place. It has this bright, open, greenhouse-style vibe that makes you want to relax, stay awhile, and pretend you're healthier than you actually are. The staff? Absolutely wonderful. They welcomed us like we were regulars who'd been coming there for years. A special shout-out to Nikki and Luis for their incredible customer service! You both made the experience even better with your kindness, positive energy, and genuine hospitality. If you're in Davis and looking for delicious food, refreshing drinks, and a place that'll make you feel right at home, Urban Plates is definitely worth the visit. Five red-and-white Yelping stars from me! I'll definitely be back... and yes, I'll probably be thinking about that lemonade the entire drive home.

Outside menu- so cool to see all the food options with pictures.

Wow!! Such a cool place to check out. We came here for my mom's birthday dinner and this place did NOT disappoint. So many food options on the menu, the food comes out super fast and taste so fresh and flavorful, and it's plated so beautifully, like a fancy restaurant. The ambiance is super chill and low key, the music is spot on, it's just perfect. And the staff, they are all super friendly, they welcomed us immediately as we walked in. Brooklyn and India deserved to be recognized as they were very friendly and welcoming. There was another staff member staff who brought us out our drinks but we didn't catch her name but she was also super helpful, We used the kiosk to order which is nice too. Definitely stop by and check them out, you'll be so glad you did.

Chimichurri Steak, Beet Salad, Truffle Fries

Mary N.

I am so glad I tried this place. I've heard friends say positive things before but it really surprised me how good the place was. You pick and main item and two side items. The had a good variety of selections for the side items. The Chimichurri Steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The beet salad was refreshing. And those Truffle fries were excellent! I was surprised about the generous portions given the price. It was very affordable for high quality food. Semi casual spot. You order at the counter, they give you a numbered placard and then they deliver the food to you. My only complaint is the parking. This is a very busy shopping center with a lot of stores and not enough parking.

Nikki W.

What a perfect cravings place and a beautiful addition to Davis! I've been coming back since it opened last year; the food is to die for, the ambience is always top tier, the service is excellent - especially when Nikki and Areeba are working! This is the spot for any lunches, dinners, dates, etc. I couldn't recommend it more! :)

Surf & Turf, Chili Lime Corn on the Cob, Mashed Organic Potatoes

Jasmin S.

Fresh homemade style plates.! Service was great we actually ordered to go at the kiosks. The ambiance was nice and they had outdoor seating. This is definitely a place we will be coming back to. The food was so flavorful and the wait wasn't too long so it was perfect for a night of dinner after a long day at the lake.

Linh N.

First time trying this place and will definitely be back for their braised beef with mash potatoes! Delish! The beet salad was refreshing. Attentive service, someone walking by constantly to make sure you're good and also help clear your table. Spacious restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating.

KeOni L.

Food: 5 Mics Service: 5 Mics Ambiance: 5 Mics Food: American Fare is served here with lots of choices to hit exactly what you are looking for. Entrees, salads, sandwiches, burgers. I was tempted to try the burger but went the healthy route of a salad with steak. Wife had the beef with mashed potatoes. Service: Awesome! Having hospitality experience, this is what you are looking for. Friendly, patient and can guide you through the menu options. Ambiance: Clean and modern and lots of seating. We went to the Davis location-come thru and eat! You won't regret it! We'll be back for the next few Sundays.

Grilled Grass Fed Steak Sandwich Classic House Salad

Diana F.

This review is based on a catered order. The steak sandwich looked pale and rare, but it was surprisingly tender and tasty. The house salad was ordinary, but the vinaigrette and pickled onions elevated the greens. I would try this place if I'm around.

Wallace T.

I came here with some friends for brunch on a sunday, and we stayed for a while just talking, which made for a nice experience. We sat in the patio outside. it was nice and quiet considering that's its next to one of the main roads in davis. The service style is the one where you order at the front first, then they give you a table flag and bring the food out to you. You also handle things like water, condiments, and utensils yourself. The roast chicken was pretty decent. Nothing crazy, but good. The caesar salad was good too, and overall the food felt fresh and healthy. The fries were fine, felt like they were battered or at the least seasoned One interesting thing is that they rotate specials through the menu every week encouraging you to try something new Overall, it was a solid experience. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about either. The food tasted healthy, and I felt pretty good afterward.

Candace S.

We had such a great experience when we came over the weekend. Ordering is so simple. You just place your order at the kiosk and that's it. There's plenty of seating inside the restaurant as well as outside on the patio. Our food orders came out relatively quickly. Let me tell you it was all so very delicious. The staff were incredibly sweet. Shoutout to India and Brooklyn!! Highly recommend and can't wait to come back again.

My husband and I were intrigued by Urban Plates since it's been all over our social media lately, so we stopped by for lunch. We got the braised short ribs and the braised beef. He said his short ribs were super tender and gave them an 8/10. I gave mine a 7.8 because I expected a few more veggies in my bowl (as described on their menu), but the flavor was really good and the beef was so tender. I usually don't even like mashed potatoes, but theirs were creamy and delicious. Portions were generous too we had to take some home. Oh, and that garlic hot sauce they have? So good, definitely try it with the bowls. Chenel was great and made sure we were taken care of. Loved the chill vibes here, even though it was pretty busy earlier. Overall, a solid lunch spot! read more

I would not recommend to anyone. The food was awful, we received it cold asked for it to be warmed and they brought it back lukewarm. Service was bad as our waitress was literally spending most her time talking to her friends rather than assisting us (not once did she ask how our food was). I would recommend management perchance offering a complimentary drink or dessert when messing up peoples food, wasting our time, and money. $22 for a steak to be stone cold is ludicrous, never again people never again. Now my stomach hurts, honestly shame on them; had me feeling like I was begging for service and my food, as if I didn't already pay good money. Shame. read more

Just okay. I can see how this would be a good option for a health conscious college student. Otherwise, there are better local options. Brussel sprouts - very hard, bland. In my opinion, roasting the brussel sprouts until tender with some purple onions to caramelize would make a good combo! :) Carrots/beets side - mostly carrots, which were quite crunchy. Steak - chewy, tendony, but grill flavor was ok. Quinoa - wet and did not taste pleasant. Potatoes - cooked nicely but unpleasant herbs. Asparagus - soggy and unpleasant seasoning. I feel this would be better sautéed in olive oil and garlic. Gluten free bread - surprisingly good! I never have high hopes for gluten free bread, but I enjoyed it. Flourless chocolate cake - delicious!!! My favorite part of the meal. read more

First of all, they have a membership that you can join to get 20% off of your purchase and that, along with a great menu keeps me coming back two or three times a week. I am not a tech person, at all, but when I go in I look for Nikki or Benji to help me. They are incredibly kind and help me in a way that I don't feel like I am a dummy, and they ALWAYS take as much time as I need. They make good recommendations on their menu and I have never been disappointed. History

Established in 2011.

We opened our first restaurant in Del Mar in September of 2011. The inspiration for Urban Plates came from our desire to connect real people and real food with memorable experiences, We are committed to serving fresh, high-quality, chef-inspired meals made from scratch, delivered in a warm and inviting environment. We act as your chef advocates to ensure the finest quality ingredients for the price are on your plate. Meals are customizable and can be enjoyed in the comfort of our restaurant, as well as taken home or enjoyed at the office. We also offer the same high quality meals for any occasion through our catering program.

I'm glad I did because everything was delicious. I ordered the pork belly banh mi and a cup of the Greek lemon chicken and farro soup. The banh mi was definitely the highlight. The pork belly was moist, tender, chewy, and really flavorful, and the crunchy vegetables added a great contrast. The ciabatta was perfectly soft with just a little bit of grilling and worked really well with everything in the sandwich. It was also a pretty substantial portion. I could only finish half and took the other half home for my son to try. The Greek lemon chicken and farro soup was also really good. I would have loved a little more lemon zing to it, but that's really my only critique of the food. Tenisha helped me during my visit and was super friendly and welcoming, which made a great first impression for a new location. My lunch came in just under $30, so it's definitely on the pricier side for a sandwich-and-soup lunch. That said, everything tasted fresh and high quality, with plenty of protein and vegetables, and the pricing seems pretty comparable to the other options in this newly updated shopping area. Overall, this was a great first visit. The food was fresh, delicious, and felt like a healthier lunch option without sacrificing flavor. I've been waiting for Mendocino Farms to open and went a little out of my way to finally try it, and it was absolutely worth the trip. I'll definitely be back.

The interior is on a smaller side, only few tables inside, and the ordering is at the counter. Pick an option from the menu-either a wrap or platter-and the friendly staff will make it in front of you. You just add stuff to it as you go. Think of it as a Middle Eastern Subway or a Chipotle. For the meat options they offer chicken or lamb, but there is also falafel and fish options for those with different dietary needs. We tried both the chicken and lamb, in gyro and platter form. The portions at Shah's are very generous and you can make it even more filling by adding more condiments and toppings to it. Warning: the spicy sauce is actually spicy, not "American spicy", so take that into mind when ordering. I also noticed Shah's also carries burgers and sides such as fries or chicken nuggets, but we did not try that on this visit. They told me I had one choice left. One plate, one meal, one taste of freedom before the steel door slammed shut for good. When you're sittin' in that cold box, the air heavy with regret and silence, you start thinkin' about what matters. And food? Food is memory. Food is family. Food is the streets you walked and the people who had your back. That's when my bruddha Chenel came through. She looked me dead in the eye before they cuffed me and said, "If you only got one shot, one plate, you better hit up this spot. Trust me, fam." And I trusted her. Chenel never lied, never fronted. She knew the streets, knew the flavors, knew what could make a man forget the chains for a minute. Walking In (Memory of Freedom) I remember steppin' through that door like it was yesterday. The smell hit me first -- spices ridin' the air like music, sizzling pans singin' louder than the jukebox in the corner. The place wasn't fancy, but it had soul. Dim lights, chatter from tables, laughter that felt like home. The kind of joint where you don't need no suit, just respect. The walls were worn, but they carried stories. You could tell generations had sat here, breakin' bread, talkin' dreams, talkin' pain. And me? I was just another soul lookin' for redemption in a plate. The Food (Freedom on a Fork) When the dish landed in front of me, I swear the world stopped. Steam rose like smoke signals, callin' me back to better days. The edges were crispy, golden like sunlight I hadn't seen in months. The inside? Tender, soft, melt-in-your-mouth like it was made with care, not just skill. Every bite was a punch of flavor -- bold, unapologetic, like the streets themselves. Seasonin' tight, no weak sauce, no shortcuts. You could taste the grind, the hustle, the love. It wasn't just food; it was a message: "You mattered. You lived. You fought. And now you eat." I closed my eyes with each bite, lettin' the taste carry me away. For a moment, I wasn't locked up. I was sittin' at a table with my crew, laughin', talkin' about tomorrow like it was guaranteed. Service & Respect The staff? They didn't look at me like I was trouble. They didn't see the ink on my arms or the weight in my eyes. They saw a man who came hungry, who came lookin' for somethin' real. They moved quick, no attitude, no judgment. Respect was served alongside the food, and that hit harder than any flavor. Reflection in the Cell Now I sit here, concrete walls closin' in, thinkin' about that meal. The taste still lingers, like a ghost of freedom. It wasn't just the food -- it was the memory, the vibe, the way Chenel's word carried me to that table. If you ever find yourself facin' that "last meal" moment -- whether it's real or just in your head -- this spot is the one. It's the kind of food that makes you wanna live forever, even when forever ain't promised. Chenel ain't lie. She gave me a gift, and that plate was more than a meal. It was a reminder that even in the darkest corners, flavor, respect, and memory can light the way. Final Word This ain't just a restaurant. It's a sanctuary. It's a place where the streets meet the soul, where a man on his last ride can taste freedom one more time. So here's my review, long as the night and heavy as the bars: If you got one shot, one plate, one chance to feel alive -- take Chenel's word. Go here. Eat. Remember. And let that flavor carry you, even when the world tries to lock you down. read more

I don't usually write long reviews, but my experience at Urban Plates was so outstanding that it absolutely deserves one. From the moment I walked through the doors, I could tell this wasn't just your average casual dining spot -- it's a place where quality, care, and genuine hospitality come together seamlessly. Let's start with the food: everything looked fresh, colorful, and made with love. The variety is incredible -- whether you're craving grilled meats, vibrant salads, or wholesome sides, Urban Plates nails it. I ordered the grilled steak plate with Brussels sprouts and mac & cheese, and it was honestly one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The steak was cooked perfectly -- tender, flavorful, and juicy. You can tell the ingredients are top-notch and that freshness is a real priority here. But as amazing as the food was, the highlight of my entire visit was Chenel. She completely elevated the experience with her warmth, professionalism, and kindness. You can instantly tell she takes pride in what she does. She greeted everyone with such genuine enthusiasm and made sure every guest felt welcomed and cared for. In a world where customer service can often feel rushed or robotic, Chenel's energy stood out -- it was authentic, heartfelt, and honestly contagious. She patiently gave great recommendations and even checked in later to make sure everything was perfect (spoiler alert: it was). It's rare to see someone balance efficiency and friendliness so effortlessly. Chenel wasn't just doing her job -- she was creating a memorable dining experience. It's employees like her that make customers want to come back again and again. read more

I just visited the restaurant today! I was excited to try it because the online menu looked pretty good. We ordered two drinks, and that was the beginning of the downfall. The strawberry lemonade wasn't too bad, but it definitely tasted mostly like a "hint" of basil, with not much of a lemonade flavor at all. The pineapple coconut drink was atrocious. It had an almost sour, acid-like taste. That being said, maybe that's just our preference, and other people might enjoy those drinks. Let's move on to the food...we ordered two plates. The crispy jumbo chicken tenders plate had so many things wrong with it. We ordered it with bread, which was pretty burnt, along with two sides. The breading on the chicken was somehow burnt on the outside and still raw on the inside. The texture of the breading was both dry and doughy, which made it very unappetizing. One of the sides ordered with this plate was mac and cheese, which was alright but very watery. The other side was tomato soup, which was the best thing out of our entire experience. The other plate we ordered was the sustainable salmon. It was okay, a little on the burnt side, and the burnt parts had a charred taste that some people may like, but I wasn't a fan, especially since it didn't look that burnt in the menu photo. We also got bread with this plate, and that was burnt as well. The sides we chose for this plate were tomato soup and fries. The fries were already cold, not even warm, when they were brought to the table. It could've been a great meal because the place is very nice, but only if the food had been prepared differently. read more

Holy SMOKES. People, this restaurant is next level. 1. the ambiance was great. It felt so lovely to come in and feel like you're in a cozy space, but know that there's plenty of seating. I loved that they had a long table in the middle for either large parties, or for several small groups. 2. Loved the food. They had a menu specifically to highlight allergens. It made it so easy to order. Also, you can order on your phone and have it delivered right to your table. No waiting in line or anything. 3. I cannot stress this enough, the service was UNBELIEVABLE. It happened to be my birthday and I was wearing a birthday hat. One of the employees, Nikki saw my hat, and came over and wished me a happy birthday. She also gave me a treat on the house and because I couldn't have any of the desserts (allergens) she let me have a fancy blueberry lemonade as my "treat". She really made the whole experience very special. I love Urban Plates and will sing it's praises to anyone and everyone. The food - delish. The consideration - superb. The staff - unparalleled. Lucky enough to score a spot during their friends and family pre-opening. Comfortable urban-inspired design serving a mix of sandwiches and wraps, salads and choose your own adventure plates (protein and sides). Husband had seared ahi, with a tangy pickled beet and goat cheese salad along with perfectly seasoned sautéed mushrooms. I opted for a veggie plate: extra creamy mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and sesame broccoli, served with some grilled Italian bread. Son opted for a chicken Caesar wrap with chips and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our server was Tara, who was friendly and engaging and never let any drinks go unfilled. There were a ton of staff around, and everyone was friendly and helpful. The place was very busy but no one seemed rushed or overwhelmed. We were gifted slices of hummingbird and chocolate layer cake to try, both of which were fabulous! We will definitely be back. read more

Went to their pre-dining event....absolutely amazing food but quite honestly what sold it for me was the service. They got this dude that works there named Manuel. His energy was just astounding truly. Another all star of the roster gotta be Benji. BENJI. If there was a mount rushmore of people on the planet, he'd be on there FOR SURE. We had such a great dinner at Urban Plates tonight! The food was fresh, flavorful, and came out quickly, but what really made the experience stand out was the staff. Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. A special shoutout to Vinny, who went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. He was attentive, kind, and had such a positive attitude. It's always nice when someone genuinely seems to enjoy helping customers. Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. We'll definitely be back! read more

I love coming to eat here at Urban plates, I'm always treated well with great service. Food is amazing, I can tell they use high quality ingredients and it tastes so delicious! Staff is always so friendly and Areeba was super nice to my table and always checked on our table to make sure everything was good and if we needed something. I got the chimichurri steak with Brussels sprouts and the potatoes and I definitely recommend! They have great desserts as well and have gluten free options, I love this place. read more

So I don't really leave reviews, nor do I use yelp but after coming here I don't mind opening an account and leave a review about me and my daughter's first experience here. At the front end Nikki was very patient with me and my daughter on looking at the menu and offered my daughter samples of the refreshers they have. Nikki was also helpful with helping what sides come with my daughters plate. I felt welcomed here and people here are very friendly. Will definitely be coming back here on the regular. read more

I went to the pre opening event with my friends and everything was so wonderful!! Jade took our order and Chenel checked on us while we ate. Both were so friendly and enthusiastic and welcoming. The food was absolutely delish and good sized portions. I got the half club sandwich with tomato basil soup and truffle fries. All were amazing but the thing that stands out to me is the hefty amount of avocado. I love avocado. Very neat, very pretty, very yummy. 10/10 read more

10/10 experience super easy to order and they bring the food right to your table. I got the surf and turf and it was amazing 100% would recommend. The steak was cooked to perfection and the shrimp was full of flavor. I also got the pineapple coconut drink and it was very refreshing. Chenel provided amazing costumer service and was very helpful answering any of our questions and making sure we had everything we needed. Will be coming back very soon. read more

I came here since it had some healthy lunch options. When you walk in you can immediately order at a kiosk, which there are 2 of. Also a counter if you want but I did the kiosk. Was a little confusing as far as the number system but since it wasn't too busy it was okay. Staff helped clear my table and it is a nice study spot. You get a big cookie for writing an honest review! The sea bass was good with the broccoli and beet+goat cheese sides. read more

I also had a side "bowl" of pho (just noodles and broth). Large serving for the small side. Could have shared this with one or two others, as a side. The only negative about this lovely restaurant, is that they don't clear the table as you finish dishes. I always come with friends and we tend to talk long after finishing. Each time, the server has checked on us and brought the bill in a timely manner, but never took away the clutter of dirty dishes.

After waiting 20 minutes and not receiving our food, we walked out. The interior decor is amazing, but they fail to meet the hype with poor dinner service. The restaurant looks like it can sit 60+ people. But only one cook and waiter present during peak dinner hour. I would also recommend they buy their cook a mandolin, so they don't embarrass the restaurant cutting the jalapeno a third inch thick.

We had an amazing experience at Mikuni and we're all still thinking about the sushi rolls (I only took some photos of the foods, the other items the rest of our table ordered looked amazing). Overall restaurant is super nice and pretty and the decoration is great. I do think the parking lot is overflowed with how much traffic is there but, worth the wait. We tried the green curry with chicken, the Thai basil eggplant with chicken, and the pad see ew with beef. The green curry was phenomenal! That was undoubtedly my favorite bite - it really blew me away. The Thai basil eggplant was perfectly prepared, the eggplant was so delicious. The pad sew ew was a little more sweet than I'm used to, but it was a solid dish as well! The service was amazing. The woman who helped us was attentive and so welcoming, you can tell she cares so much about this restaurant. She handled all of the tables by herself (there were 4 other tables on a Sunday which is a great sign - plus multiple pick up orders). Truly next level customer service. The inside has these really cute wooden cut outs - on one side, the cut outs are of Woodland - you can see the Corner Store, the courthouse, the city hall, even a cut out of the burger saloon and Mojo's! The other side features cut outs of landmarks from Thailand. It's really endearing. I also had a Thai iced tea which was excellent. I can't wait to come back here and try more dishes!

They have plenty of sides here including cornbread, mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. We recently noticed they opened a new location in Dixon, right off the freeway. So after leaving Fairfield for a water polo match one night I decided this new Buckhorn restaurant would be our destination as it's on the way home to West Sacramento. The new location is beautiful. It's a brand new building. Large bar area with TV's. Lots of tables for patrons and their families. Outdoor seating too. The speakers were playing 80's rock music. The lady at the counter was super nice and after ordering we grabbed a number and found a table. Wait was about 20 minutes. Gave us lots of time to go over my son's game and upcoming plans. Food order came out correctly. Our food runner was constantly checking on us too which was nice. My son loved the chicken tenders and offered me a taste. I mistakenly ate the whole tenders and he laughed about it. My lady loved her lettuce wrapped burger, so did I! It was a fat juicy hamburger with a deep BBQ char on it and the flavors were great. I would order that again. Got the 2 meat plate with ribs and bbq chicken. Absolutely delicious. So much food I took the rest home. Overall I think this new Buckhorn offers the city and passing travelers a really cool spot to hangout and enjoy some top notch eats.
