They constantly have specials that they rotate in and out and they're always delicious. Their karaage is some of the juiciest karaage I've had, and they have special draft beers from Japan. I'd recommend going during some of their happy hour offerings for a good beer and food. While they are a little on the pricier side, their portions well make up for it. The quality of food and service here is unmatched, and I often bring friends from out of town here. The iced matcha has free refills and is one of my favorite parts. But the low lit ambiance and art murals are always really nice to look at. Their booths are private and roomy, and they have plenty of seating. You order at the counter, but definitely still get full service here.

Today, that change has become permanent, with the restaurant now operating as Yuchan Shokudo. Even during the transition, the food absolutely hit. Prices have risen over the years, so it feels more like an occasional treat than a casual student meal these days. We also ordered a side of sake to complement our ramen. Since then, the former sake bar has been removed as part of the restaurant's evolution into a full-fledged shokudo concept. Service was friendly, our food arrived promptly, and the overall ambience struck a nice balance between a cozy ramen shop and a casual Japanese eatery.

I sat at the sushi bar. It took quite a long time for someone to come over and take my order. And it also took a little while for my sushi and sashimis to come out. One thing that grosses me out a little bit is that my soy sauce dish is oily. But I can't wave anyone down so I used it anyways.. The sashimis are fresh. And they give really big pieces too so it is great value. The Madai sashimi still have scales on them tho that was a little surprising in texture. The nigiris are in massive pieces. Which again I appreciate the value. However, the uni was visibly dark in color in some piece. I thought it might be a regional character (cuz uni from different place can have different colors). But upon first bite it tasted a little stinky which is not how it's supposed to taste. To be honest, I would rather have less uni and smaller nigiri if I can just have fresh fish. When eating raw fish freshness is a huge priority. This dinning experience too way longer than expected. And I'm very disappointed in the freshness of an expensive ingredient. I do hope they improve and succeed as it's been in Davis for so long.

CONS: - prices are a little high - the wait for the food was oddly long considering how few customers were inside/not busy it looked - the meat was not cut; the chicken arrived as giant slabs (not a huge deal, but it's just a detail I noticed because other places usually cut it before serving) Overall the cons are small things compared to the pros. The food was so delicious that my group all ate beyond what our stomachs were capable of eating because we wanted to eat more! Tim's is a great place to invest a little more for a big plate, and you'd have leftovers to eat for another meal (or two).

I guess if I had to make a recommendation here, it is that the little cup of sauce that is built into the plate just kind of spills onto the food. Not the end of the world, but maybe a small ramekin would be better. Anyway, gyoza, karaage, fried tofu, shrimp tempura, fish balls with roe, we're all great. There are drinks that come with the diamond tier can sodas, lychee lemonade, Thai tea, and more. The service was awesome this time. The severs were very attentive and working hard.
