Urban Kitchen is a typical upscale Bozeman experience. It fits right in to the "new wave" of Bozeman cuisine. The food was very good, service was spot on, and the decor was rustic modern. Main plus: service and attention to detail Main downsides: Tight seating and over priced I had crème Brûlée for dessert and the sugar on top had a very bitter and burned taste. Food was OK, Service & Ambiance Subpar Our party had a variety of items including the charred filet, ribeye, pork chop & bison filet. Food was good but not a place we would revisit nor recommend. My family and I were visiting from the South and were disappointed with both the atmosphere and the service. The bathroom situation was strange (open concept, middle of restaurant) and overall quality of experience and price, in our opinion, was mismatched. Drinks were fairly priced (~$14/each) but not good comparatively speaking. While I recognize this establishment is listed as casual, at ~$80 per person (all in) I expect more than an unlit candle, cordial service and being seemingly rushed out with a mobile kiosk for payment and the server peering over our shoulder. read more

Like so many places these guys are dealing with short/ new staff, but I think over all they are making the best with few noticeable issues. Our server was delightful with her Irish accent and friendly attitude. Food was delish and they have a nice wine by the bottle selection. Cocktails were great too. Food and atmosphere is a 10+. The design of this restaurant creates multiple spaces that offer guests varied options for dining ambience. Indoor, by front windows, side dining rooms with energy galore, tables near the bar and outdoor dining. We ate at the large round table in the bar area that sat 10 easily. Drink options are endless and presented beautifully. Appetizers were ample and included calamari and shrimp, fried oysters and crab, burrata plate and watermelon/nectarine/ cucumber/ tomato salad. You cannot go wrong with chops and steaks that were cooked to perfection. Other guests raved about the poke, chicken dishes and rice bowls. Our wait staff were friendly and accommodating. We had been on the road for four days from Maryland, headed to British Columbia and because we had an eight month old duck toller puppy who wasn't happy to be in the car each night as we stopped, we chose a restaurant that was nearby our hotel, often not the best culinary experience. But tonight was different. The Urban Kitchen just six minutes from our ubiquitous hotel was just what we hoped for, fabulous food and great service. We were early, just 5:30 so no reservation, no problem. We chose a high top near the bar. Our waiter from behind the bar was all that you would hope for, knowledgeable, present when needed and absent when appropriate. A "Fish On" beer from the Kettle brewery was the perfect pale Ale followed by a bottle of the Sienna Cabernet to accompany our dinner. we'd both had enough beef for the last few days and each chose chicken. I had the Korean Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and pickled vegetables and my husband had the Bricked Chicken. I thought mine was best and he insisted his was. We were both right, they were delicious. We don't normally do dessert but it was clear that this kitchen did seriously good food and with the suggestion of our waiter we chose the carrot cake with a cantaloupe sorbet, OMG! I need to run home and figure out how to make that sorbet, just fantastic. We will be returning from this trip in late September and we will definitely be visiting the Urban Kitchen on our way back. Every dish we ordered was amazing - we live in the state that must not be mentioned who travel and move everywhere and drive prices up - so I have access to lots of great innovative restaurants with award-winning chefs and awesome service. Urban Kitchen is in this league - truly delicious, tons of warm lighting and pleasing decor (fresh flowers even in winter), and warm, friendly service. One of our favorite restaurants in Bozeman. The bison tenderloin was superb. Cooked to medium rare, it almost melted in my mouth. My wife had the maple leave duck ramen bowl. It was very tasty, not too salty and just right. Next time I will try the pork chop dish that looks very good. Our dinner was accompanied by a nice bottle of Emmolo, of Napa Valley. Review: GOOD. We had the 8oz bison, the yellow curry, and a bison bolognese w/orecchiette. The coconut sorbet w/ orange was fantastic, exceeded expectations. All very good, cooked and presented nicely, and we enjoyed our meal and the quiet yet lively local ambience. BAD: Refusing completely straightforward substitutions of sides due to allergies, **when both sides are clearly available and priced identically on the menu**, is tacky and coarse. We understand if the ingredients are interdependent; or if people are trying to finagle free upgrades; or it's a diner in a 1970 road drama starring Jack Nicholson; fine, we get it. Get that extra $9. But none are the case, here. Change it, let us know, and this goes 4/5 stars, instantaneously. Your restaurant, servers (who have to explain and negotiate this awkwardly), and customers sure deserve it. read more

Modern eatery that focuses on local products. Good food without being pretentious. The apps were nice in that together it was a very well balanced dish. Bison meatloaf was great. Bison bolognese was nice but wish there was a little more bison and a little more meaty flavor. The cocktails took it down to 4 starts...really light on the pours. WARNING!!!!!!! Looks are deceiving. This place is a Kentucky fried chicken imitating a high-end steak house/restaurant. I ordered a $52 ribeye, it is about a half inch thick and of course I ordered it medium rare, and of course it came out medium to well done. The potatoes were between cold and warm and the brussels sprouts were extremely greasy. The server, although she apologized a bunch of times still messed up other parts of our order and to top it off, management never visited the table seeing if there was anything that they could do to rectify the situation. We are now in search of a pharmacy to find some syrup of ipecac. Dine here at your own risk, but if you feel like wasting money, by all means try it. read more

We received fabulous, friendly service and amazing food at Urban Kitchen. The Bison steak was tender and seasoned to perfection and the Bison Vodka Bolognese was magnificent and flavorful. We enjoyed the Bang Bang Tuna and Crispy Calamari with Cauliflower as appetizers, both were artfully prepared and delicious. The Huckleberry Hopper adult beverage was handcrafted as we watched and it was delicious! For dessert, we enjoyed the Brookie topped with homemade creamy chocolate ice cream and a complimentary serving of the decadent seasonal pumpkin cake topped with a generous brick of handmade cherry ice cream. The immediate friendly hello of our host greeted us as we came in out of the cold. The restaurant has a darker feel but adequate lighting to see your food. We were given cucumber water in soda can shaped glasses & promptly placed our drink orders - a 9oz Prosecco (delicious) & can of Poor Farmer hard cider from Missoula (also delicious). Our server was very sweet & made great recommendations! Entrees were bison meatloaf, served with peas, mushrooms & mashed potatoes, as well as the penne Italian sausage pasta. Both dishes were flavorful & fragrant, but the star was the bison. When in doubt, get this dish! We rounded our meal off with the peach cobbler (just okay - the lemon/huckleberry ice cream tasted more like vanilla) & coffee. When the bill came, I love that it was part of a small booklet where diners can leave comments - very unique! Lovely restaurant, energetic the later it became & a great cocktail menu! Good vibes! I sat at the bar here. The service started off great as it started off as a slow night for them. I ordered a cocktail on the light refreshing side and it hit the spot. The bartender was supper good! He knew his stuff. I ordered the Brussels sprouts and risotto for dinner off of the appetizer menu. As with the rating they were both four-star. I thought they were both very good but not incredible. I'd swing back here for a cocktail before dinner. As it got more and more busy service could not keep up, but that's sometimes expected. I love the option of reserving our table on Yelp. We had a reservation made and sitting at our table, all within 15 minutes! Our waiter did a fair job, he just wasn't personable. $120 later, I don't know if we will he returning in the near future. It was good, but not $100+ good. We started off with a 9oz glass of Conundrum wine for $16. It was delicious. Joel had a bloody mary (they do not offer a ceaser drink) and he said it was spicy, but flavorless. Note to self, do not order again. Salads are not included with our entrees, and therefore we had to purchase our own. Joel got the wedge which was tasty, especially the pork belly. I ordered the mushroom risotto. It was good, but very very rich. I could only eat about a 1/4 of the appetizer. Entrees included the sausage penne (great choice on Joel's part!) Decent portion size and very flavorful. I had the salmon. The fillet itself was wonderful, but it was served with an entire can of beans. I did not care for them at all. I wouldn't get this entree again if it came with beans. Dessert was overall the best and worth the $10. We shared the nutella bomb. read more

The reviews are what made us want to try this spot out. But what we got was collectively "meh." The Benedict didn't come out as described on the menu - no bacon, the shrimp was very bland, and the English muffin stale and not toasted. The coffee was bitter. The Sunday gravy was quite tasty, however. The mimosa was flat. The pictures on the wall of the menu items look amazing and I'd want to try again to see if it was just an off day in the kitchen or what. The decor is great ! Day 4 of our road trip and looking for fish and vegetables. The host at The Lark suggested Urban Kitchen. Great suggestion! We started with the Calamari w/ spicy shrimp - the sweet jalapeños were an awesome addition. Entrees were Salmon w/ bokchoy and Filet mignon w/ brocollini, spicy creamed corn and mashed potatoes. Both were perfectly prepared and delicious. Dessert could not be skipped- we landed on the Dark Chocolate Nutella Bombe with ice cream. It was BOMB! Service was excellent and as far as the COVID dining experience- there was distancing between tables and everything was very clean. All other interactions were very normal- a welcome interaction! Not pictured is the crispy pork belly appetizer we got which was really good just expensive for the portion you get. I got the pasta which was a little strong with Parmesan but otherwise amazing. My husband got the ribeye and said the potatoes were the best part for the price the steak could've been better. We are on vacation in Bozeman for 7 nights and we decided we were going to eat at a different restaurant every night. Tonight we tried Urban Kitchen. We had a starter of crispy brussel sprouts with carrots. Very fresh and it had a lovely sauce sprinkled on it. For dinner I had the brick chicken and my wife had the Montana grilled pork chop. Both meals tasted great and you won't be hungry leaving here. For dessert we shared a Nutella bomb. Everything at this restaurant is made in-house and the food is made fresh and locally sourced. The ambiance is nice and the staff attentive. Our waiter was Tyler and he was very knowledgeable. We enjoyed everything about this restaurant! It's not cheap but it was worth it. read more
