This has been on my list for a while and I finally had the chance to check it out. I haven't had Burmese food before but it was quite tasty. The owners are really sweet and the menu is small but plentiful. We ordered the golden triangle which is like a fried tofu or chickpea thing. The tea salad was really tasty. The noodles were also really delicious. It may seem small portions but there's a lot of food. Overall, I love the concept of Mango House and the community aspect of it. Absolutely loved this place! The food was unique, flavorful, and well-balanced. Every dish felt different from anything I've had before, which made the meal really memorable. The value was fantastic too--we spent about $53 total (including tip) for two entrées and two specialty drinks. For drinks, I tried the fruit smoothie, which reminded me of a lassi but without the yogurt. I also really enjoyed the Mint Ginger Spritz. It was light, refreshing, and honestly felt like something that could help settle your stomach after a meal. We ordered the Nan Gyi Dok and the sampler, which came with curry, a samosa, and tea leaf salad. For the curry, we chose the Weh Da Nah. The tea leaf salad was incredibly unique--I have never had anything like it before. The Nan Gyi Dok was probably my favorite dish of the meal. It had a nice medium spice level and came with a light broth on the side that refreshed your palate between bites. The service was excellent as well. The only challenge was finding the restaurant since it's tucked away inside an international mall/food court, but it's absolutely worth seeking out. Came here for a late bite and it didn't disappoint. The Samosas were delicious and perfect to start with. We also had the Sii Cheh Kao Sweh and the Ono Kao Swe. The flavors were great, though the Level 3 spice on the Ono Kao Swe was a bit mild for us--we'll definitely go for a higher spice level next time! Quick service and good food. read more

First time going to The Mango House. Brilliant use of space we opted to try Urban Burma. The food stall is small and the staff seemed nice. Our selections were the Shan Noodles which was a flavorful bowl with generous amount of noodles, would totally order again. Buckle up your taste buds, friends. Urban Burma is NOT here to play. This is one of several food stalls within Mango House, a community center for ethnic minorities and refugees. The seating area is shared, and you'll see little hints of cultural flair near each stall. The menu is short but captures most of the Burmese top hits that you'll see this side of the Pacific (notably missing, mohinga, as well as ginger salad). One of the co-owners, Siri, was manning the front and was elated to be serving a fellow Burmese person (my boyfriend). After ordering and debating the pros/cons of various famous Burmese restaurants in other parts of the country (a certain Superstar in the Bay Area), he sat us down with some water cups and went back to take care of the growing dinner line. The water cups are small and you'll have to refill yourself at the water station, but that's about the only downside of eating here. We shared the Tea Leaf Salad, Ono Kao Sweh, and their special curry of the day, a Braised Pork Curry. Siri himself came out to deliver each dish as it was prepared, each one neatly portioned out on elegant serving-ware that contrasts with the otherwise rather sparse decor in Mango House. The Ono Kao Sweh was sublime - wonderfully thick and brothy with a hint of lime and coconut. If you've never had Tea Leaf Salad, I envy you for getting to experience the mouth-feel of its textures and tastes for the first time. It hits, in all the right ways. The Pork Curry was rich and salty, maybe too salty for me, but comforting in the ways that only aunties and uncles can perfect. My belly can't wait to experience Urban Burma again. read more

This was my first time trying Burmese food, and it did not disappoint! I ordered the golden triangle tofu ($10), tea leaf salad ($12), and Shan noodles ($14). The tofu was so crispy and flaky and delicious when dipped in the tamarind sauce. The tea leaf salad was fermented and unique, very addictive! It was a bit salty, but it was refreshing and balanced my meal well. Shan noodles felt like your typical Asian noodle soup, tasty but did not seem super new and different. The worker was really kind and explained the menu well. This restaurant is located in a food hall, and I can imagine the parking situation being a bit challenging during peak business hours. This is not in the best part of town, but definitely worth stopping by to give this place a try!! read more

We ordered the Tea Leaf Salad (a must!) and the Nan Gyi Dok. The tea lead salad was delicious and refreshing. One of my favorite styles of salad. It resembled a slaw in looks with a crunchy bite. The Nan Gyi Dok is such an interesting noodle dish. These noodles were so soft and juicy. Like I've never had anything like it. The color was similar to a curry sauce and the taste was savory. Amazing food with such a friendly owner!! From the minute we walked up, the owner greeted us and explained the food and asked where we were from. We ordered the Ono Kao Sweh (soup dish) and Nan Gyi Dok (no soup). Both were noodles (one with soup and one dry) and they were soooo delicious!!! Highly highly recommend!!! The ambiance is very welcoming and family oriented (saw lots of kids running around and there is a mini playground for them too). There is plenty of seating with a nice big window to look outside. Bad food, terrible service & crap atmosphere ‍. Was so excited to try this place based on the (most likely fake) reviews with my young kids ..... ABSOLUTE MISTAKE!! Where do I begin?! Ordered 2 meals for the 3 of us with a side of fried rice Togo.... 45 mins later the food arrived, we immediately asked the obvious (extra plates to properly share please), then waited to ask for basic soy sauce & the samosa sauce (never delivered) another 15 minutes until we gave up. Ate what we could bc we had been super hungry for an hour at this point. Good?! Samosas were great!! And salad was good!..... rice was old mush, after 45mins the chicken was dry and flavorless, the curry was clearly reheated (don't lie to me, I know food). What was meant to be extra for lunch the next day I wanted nothing to do with.... Better off blending it and donating to those with no teeth ‍....... No, we did NOT take anything with us They ask for payment & tip before your order for a reason ‍. As I was leaving, the server asked how it was, I was very honest but polite..... he didn't have a care in the world..... What a shame!!!! The menu was similar to the one back home and I chose a couple of items that I knew were veggie. The tea leaf salad was well made and the flavors were spot on. I really appreciated how they used red garbanzo beans as opposed to white in the soup, this is what really makes it authentic, and was absolutely one of my favorite ingredients overall. Mango house is wonderful, and I am so glad to come in and support the refugee community! We had the Nan Gyi Dok, which is a fabulous rice noodle dish with curried chicken. We got it medium, which was a little hot for me, but my husband loved it. The dish itself was excellent and flavorful, with a good mix of textures between the crunchy onions and the noodles. Little can be said about this place that hasn't already been said. Short story, this is not a fast causal dining facility. If you're ok with that, be prepared for not only the best Burmese food, but hands down FOOOOOD that you've ever had. Period. The people are extremely kind and the only thing to be aware of is that it is in a food court of a mixed-use building that caters to an international base. There is a legal office, a doctor's office, and you need a code to get into the bathroom. Every trip I must have the Tea Leaf Salad and chickpea Tofu. Luckily there is a Burmese sampler plate which has the tea leaf salad, but trust me that you need the tofu. The texture is beyond addicting, like a Burmese Cheetos the way it melts in your mouth. After that, it's a mix of anything on the menu because it's all so delicious. I particularly love the beef curry. For those who like heat, ask for the "hot sauce" which is made from fresh Thai chilies and heaven. read more

Urban Burma is located in the food court of an international mall off of Colfax while the other side has retail shops. The area is a bit questionable but this type of environment was part of my childhood so it was actually nostalgic for a small part. I found a singular dish to rule all the flavors! We came with a small group last night to Urban Burma. Wasn't expecting much and I generally don't look at reviews...maybe sometimes. We were kindly greeted by a gentleman at the front counter and he was already hustling. After a minute he returned and still had a smile and wonderful aura about him. I ordered a Sii Cheh Kao Sweh which consisted of flat thinner noodles with garlic, sesame oil, spring onions and pork for my protein. My entree also came with a soup but wasn't too big of a fan of the soup as it was on the salty side. The Sii Cheh Kao Sweh was AMAZING and I'm already looking forward to my leftovers for lunch. A+ on experience and everything else. If they ever open an actual restaurant I'll be there and I'm sure it will be packed every night. Already looking forward to my return trip! read more

This spot has been on the list and I was nearby for work so decided to go! Parking was easy on the street and it was easy to find. This is in an open market with other shops and restaurants. Service was so friendly and the owner gave great recommendations since this was my first time trying Burmese food! Just like everyone says- the tea leaf salad is bomb- flavorful, and nutty like nothing I've had before. I got the sampler so I could try everything and I also got the noodles with crispy pork. Everything was delish, however, some pieces of pork could have been more tender and I bet the marinated pork would have been the way to go! Owner was extremely hospitable and a great conversationalist. Ambiance is in unassuming ethnic center of sorts so you get true hole in the wall vibes. If you want to feel like you're traveling in a foreign country this is your place to be. I love Burmese food, so I was excited to try this spot- and for Denver it's great. But on the scale of Burmese food I've had it's good, maybe a solid B. This is coming from someone who grew up in Bay Area and has traveled extensively. They do have a lot of vegetarian dishes but I expected a little more pizazz given all the glaringly positive reviews. Not sure I would trek 30+ minutes to eat here. My biggest complaint about Denver after moving here in the past year is how bland & boring so many if the restaurants area are - NOT Urban Burma! I went with a group of friends who are all foodies, and every dish we had was incredible. Also, all of the menu can be made vegetarian and there are lots of gluten free dishes for Celiacs like myself. The owner, Siri, was an awesome guy and answered all of our questions. The restaurant itself is part of a food court in Mango House, a community that provides resources for refugees in the area. All the restaurants in the center look pretty fabulous. Located inside the food court of mango house, this Burmese food vendor is a definite must try if you're in the area. I had a bit of a hard time finding this place at first, being new to the area. I thought it was a stand alone building and didn't realize it was inside a separate place. There's plenty of parking in the back parking lot, and you just follow the signs for mango house to go inside. Mango house is a shared space for Asylees and refugees. There's different little shops inside including a medical practice and small grocers, along with lots of different food vendors in their food court. Burma house in particular specializes in Burmese food, which I've only had once or twice before. The staff were really friendly and efficient (we got our food in under 10-15 minutes) and they also seem to be from Burma. The food has a homemade vibe to it with no frills, and the flavors are bright and plentiful. I got the tea leaf salad -- super fresh and delicious -- along with the Nan gyi dok -- almost like a pad Thai with rice noodles, topped with a boiled egg and some crunchy garlic crisps (delicious and filling). My mouth is watering just looking back at all the pictures I took of my meal at Urban Burma. Met up with a foodie friend for dinner, shortly before they closed at 8pm. Got a little confused about how to get into the restaurant, then realizing it's inside Mango House. Google Maps THAT instead of Urban Burma to be taken to the main parking lot. The cashier made fun WITH me that I've procrastinated coming here for so long. My friend and I shared a few incredible dishes: * Tea Leaf Salad * Golden Triangle Tofu * Ono Kao Sweh * Beef Curry They were all delicious! It's wild how so much flavor could be packed into such small dishes. This has become one of my favorite local places to eat, earning its solid 5-star rating on Yelp. FOOD: 5/5 Ono kao sweh (vegetarian) - perfection in a bowl. It's light but with so much substance. Savory, sweet, tangy. It's soft and smooth but also crunchy and startling. Coconut milk noodles. Every single component in the dish harmonizes with each other so well---it felt like it dissolved all conflict in my body and world. Samosa - crunchy, spicy, savory, and sweet when used with the tamarind sauce. Warm. Another very comforting item. A delight to my senses. First off, Top 5 restaurant in Colorado! The owner and staff are so hospitable and serve the best Burmese cuisine in the country! Everything from their noodle dishes and curries and amazing appetizers. Their food truck offers the same quality as the actual restaurant. There's so much I can say about this small business but please support them, everything I've had here is delicious and it's always a great time chatting with the family who runs the stall. Tea leaf salad is my go to when I come here. It's a right balance of herbs and saltiness. The crunch from the soybeans pair with the variety of greens in this salad. I've had tea leaf salad elsewhere but they are consistent here and offer the right blend of flavors. The golden tofu triangles.....WOW! I could eat a million of these! Light and crispy tofu skin with a savory chick pea filling. The tamarind sauce was the perfect compliment. Order this now! Samosa was airy and crispy. Compared to an Indian samosa, they used a thin and flaky wrapper you typically see in egg rolls. It was tasty and a good app to start the meal. The pork curry was very flavorful and packed with spices. The pork was tender and soaked the curry well. It's one of the best curries I've had and highly recommend it. OMG, I have not had Burmese food in 7 years!!! Here in Denver for apartment hunting and this was the first stop! I love tea leaf salads and was super excited to find this gem! Its located in a plaza with other restaurants including Indian cuisine and Swahili. Weird feeling because I had just returned from Nepal from the Everest Basecamp Trek. Felt like I never left. There are parking on the street or in the back, so no fret. The restaurant is small, but don't judge a book by the cover. The staff were really friendly as I walked up and realized that I've never been there before when I placed the order. How do they know that?? I wanted to try everything, but my little tummy wouldn't be able to handle it so I ordered the platter. It gives me a little bit of everything - tea leaf salad, a samosa, and curry with rice. Took less than 10 mins and I was on my way. Enjoyed it at the hotel and it did not disappoint. It was more than enough for me and it was absolutely delicious! Tea leaf is on point and the samosa really surprised me. After being in the container for at least 15 mins, I presume it would be a bit soggy on a side or corner but it wasn't!!! And it was so good and crunchy! I had the chicken curry last, but that brought my palette back to a zing. I think I had a bite of everything all at once because it was so good and it was the only I ate that day.
