This is a review for takeout. It was our first time trying the spot since it transitioned from Cho Lon, which I loved. We ordered General Cho's dumplings (4 dumplings) and shrimp pad Thai, and the total was $38.70 . There is a 20% service fee which doesn't feel great when you're getting takeout and not actually being served. Anyway, high prices aside, the food was just ok. The dumplings were good, and the pad Thai was not what we were expecting. There was essentially no peanut flavor, and tasted more like pad see ew. There was one strong flavor, and no room for any of the other flavors (like the shrimp, noodle, or veg) to come through, even after squeezing the lime. Glad to have a locally owned restaurant in the neighborhood, but wasn't impressed and likely will not return. read more

Delicious, modern Asian food with a nod to classical European cooking. My wife and I ordered most items on the happy hour menu. We shared French Onion Soup Dumplings, General Cho's Soup Dumplings, Shrimp Cake Bao Buns, Pork Belly Bao Buns, Kaya Toast, Autumn Squash Dumplings, Salt & Pepper Calamari, Korean Hot Fried Chicken Slider, and Kimchi Fried Rice with Pork Belly. Great service and vibe! 5 I always really enjoy their unique Xiao long bao with French onion soup! 4 Everything else se tried was a bit of a miss. 1 For the cucumber appetizer it wasn't a well balanced flavor, and their green onion pancake texture was almost more of a sopapilla. I thought their options were a bit better when they were Cholong, and their kids options, the tempura was delicious. Overall it's a very different than traditional Chinese food in terms of taste and texture. On our way to Denver Int'l Airport, we stopped at Cholon for an early dinner. They have to locations - downtown and Central Park. We arrived during happy hours, so please to try dishes at a discount. The service was very friendly and atmosphere clean and "modern." The dishes we ordered were tasty, especially the pork belly bao. This I'll have to try to make myself since it was so delicious. However the soup dumplings (aka xiao long bao), even though they were a colorful red, were not enough - only two for $7. Other restaurants serve 10 for $15. I would've given 5 stars if not for this reason and recommend they increase the quantity per order. read more

The cocktail menu was fun and a few dollars less per drink than I see at other comparable restaurants. The food, however, needs work--so salty and greasy. The lemongrass shrimp were not actually shrimp, but deep fried shrimp meatballs. The Ruben spring rolls were expected to be greasy, but whoa. And the General Cho soup dumplings were so salty that I literally couldn't swallow mine. I appreciate the ingenuity of the menu items but the execution needs improvement. One of the best food experiences I have enjoyed since moving to Denver, ChoLon's rocked, combining an elite menu with exceptional customer service. Located in Central Park, this restaurant shares a large parking lot with other businesses, and would never have issues. They offer takeout and reservations. I grabbed a reservation via Monica, and we were pleasantly greeted at the door. The atmosphere is outstanding, with just the right amount of lighting. The staff effectively set the tone for a visit. They separate their food options into "small bites," which can be shared as dinner choices or appetizers, and "large plates," which are good-sized main dishes that can either be an individual portion or an excellent family-style selection. Here is where ChoLon excelled and separated themselves. Our server, Jung, was elite, taking time to explain the menu to first-timers, and at the same time, he was mentoring a new staffer. Flawless presentation with a great feel for the menu and superlative interpersonal skills, helping us make some choices with solid guidance. Our order was bigger than normal, but we were already enamored with this place. Selected four Small Bites and one Large Plate, and they were all terrific! Kaya Toast - unique tasting toast with coconut jam and egg drop, the fabulous explosion of flavor, and great advice to dip the toast all the way into the concoction. Wow. My favorite part of a great meal! Wagyu Beef - four skewers that were delicious and served with a spicy Hong Kong sauce that was so good. French Onion Dumplings - another unique dish that was yummy and full of taste. Just be careful when piercing into the dumplings. Scallion Pancakes - so very good, served with a caramel yogurt sauce and incredibly good, Large Plate was Miso Glazed Salmon with Baby Bok Choy and Cucumber Jicama, and it was absolutely incredible! Have to start with the most important part of our experience- our server Colin and bartender Jen. Hilarious, charismatic, seriously gave us the best restaurant experience we've had in a long time. Give them both a raise. The AYCE soup dumplings are delicious, sake options are fantastic, will be going back mainly for Colin and Jen but to also try some of their regular menu food and cocktails! Also let it be known that a service charge is set so that the restaurant can legally take some of that money/so they don't charge as much for the food. The servers only see about 40% of that service charge so to all the people complaining, you actually WILDLY under tipped your server :) read more

I've been waiting to try this place for over a year, and it definitely exceeded the hype. We decided to try out Denver Restaurant Week so we could try a couple of things. The dinner was the perfect amount for two people and I left feeling so satisfied. I could eat an absurd amount of those French onion soup dumplings, no joke they are one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. Denver Resturant week ended today, March 10, 2024. We don't always manage to partake. But, this year, after spending the last 7 weeks somewhat housebound due to knee replacement surgery, I said we are going. I checked a few menus for some favorite restaurants. The choice was ChoLong Modern Asian in Central Park. Obviously, a lot of others thought the same thing. Every day and time that I tried in the Open Table reservation site was filled. Finally we got one for tonight.. The selections for Small Plates were quite varied. Pot Sticker, egg rolls, soup dumplings-both the French Onion variety and the General Tao, Kaya Toast, and many more. You could choose four items. For Main course, again the selection was vast. We ordered the pork vindaloo, and for an up charge, the Mailaysian Noodles. Both dishes we as good as we have ever had them. A most unique dessert item are the donut rounds, sugar coated and served with a scoop of mocha ice cream. A perfect sweet bite to finish off this wonderful meal was enjoyed. As we finished and were chatting with our server, I asked when the patio was going to open. To my total shock and surprise, she told us that ChoLon CP as were know it, is closing after tonight. There will be remodeling and another Yum Cha will be there instead. We have eaten at the downtown Yum Cha several times and the food is excellent. The biggest difference, I guess, I the overall atmosphere. Instead of an upscale restaurant, Yum Cha is more like "drop in for a small bite and a drink." (Or so I understand it.) There will be new ChoLon at Sloan's Lake in west Denver. It will be in the building Boat House. So, there you have it. We were so glad that we were able to drive just 15 minutes from our Aurora home and get to Central Park area. We certainly will give a try to the new Yum Cha in two months. By then, the patio will be open and we can still enjoy both varieties of soup dumplings. As always, tonight's service was outstanding. Wow! We had a new server and he was FANTASTIC! The service is incredible on all levels. The food here is phenomenal. All of the dumplings are handmade. My favorite was the French Onion Dumpling. The place was so quiet on a Wednesday night that they sent the sushi guy home early. That was a bit of a bummer, because I would have tried the hatch chili hamachi! I'd say there's always next time, but I dont think we'll be back. The good: Staff is friendly, I really enjoyed my cocktail (Old Saigon), and the kaya toast was delicious and unlike anything else I've ever had. It's sweet and savory, and just delightful. We also enjoyed the house starter of papadam with a spicy dipping sauce. The okay: The tofu bao buns were fine. I've had more flavorful bao before. Staff were kind enough to sub the shrimp in the Stir-Fried Malaysian Noodles out for tofu, but the dish was just okay. Pieces of noodle seemed burnt at the edges, and while the egg absorbed a lot of tasty flavor (and oil), the rest of the dish lacked that taste bud-pleasing punch. The bad: The scallion pancakes were dry, and while the caramelized yogurt was a creative choice of dipping sauce, I don't think it's actually better than a more typical soy-based sauce. I had an amazing dinner at ChoLon and would definitely recommend for locals as well as visitors! I was fortunate enough to have a curated menu where I had the opportunity to try 4 appetizers/small bites, a couple of options for both second and thirds course and a couple of desserts as well. Everything was outstanding...so much so that I really had to pace myself during the meal. Very cute restaurant in Central Park Denver. The inside is quaint and elegant. Decorated very beautifully and the aesthetics and lighting are perfect for a date night. The service was impeccable. Staff was very attentive and helpful. Provided great menu options based on our preferences. As for the food, everything was amazing. The calamari was thick and flavorful -- seasoned very well. Wagyu skewers were tender and juicy. The Mongolian noodles were flavorful. I added chili oil and sambal to add some spicyness to it. As for the drinks, the 36 chambers was very good. Well what can I say? Cholon Central Park really is the shiz. I had an amazing meal here and cannot wait to come back. The difference between Central Park and the original is they offer sushi which was super tasty. So I would recommend any of the rolls we tried that night. But it's really hard for me to decide what I liked best because everything was so dang delicious. Now if you were to twist my arm and force me to pick; begrudgingly I would and probably say the chicken because omg was it perfectly cooked, so juicy and the breading was amazingly flavorful but I don't want to have to choose favorites if I don't have to! I also really especially liked the Korean Bo Ssam Pork as it was so dang juicy after being slow cooked and just literally melted apart when breaking it up with a fork. Truly magical. But I also loved the stir fried Malaysian noodles and the little kick of heat that they brought. And of course you have to also start with some soup dumplings because that is what they are known for and there's a reason why. they are wonderful. I cannot and really mean CANNOT wait to bring the husband back here to try all the amazing things because you honestly cannot go wrong with a single thing on the menu. Overall this was an enjoyable dining experience with some fun twists on classic dishes, and a few novelties that I've not had before. As others have said, the dining room is beautiful and the hostess was very friendly. Our waitress was very nice as well, but she warned that everything would be served when ready. Given that this is a small plate/tapas style menu, I wanted the flexibility to order everything, but have our waitress course things appropriately. Lately this seems to be a big ask of restaurants and some seem put off by it. Our waitress did understand and largely got it right. Cocktails were all great, and everybody enjoyed. I had the "Old Saigon", delicious, and only wished it had a bit more Thai Basil flavor. The Crimson Daiquiri and Full Moon Margaritas were also enjoyed. We knew we had to try the famous French Onion Soup Dumplings, which were good, they tasted like traditional dish. We were politely warned to wait 4 minutes so not to burn ourselves, but a soup spoon was not provided, and when we asked, were told that they did not have them. This makes eating the dish a little odd. Crab Rangoon purses were beautiful and delicious, but the scallion pancakes had an unusual pastry and did not have much scallion flavor for my liking. Thai brussel sprouts were a hit with a big hit of kaffir lime flavor. The stir fried Malaysian noodles were tasty, but had very few noodles and was largely bean sprouts, this was the least enjoyed dish. I finished with the Vietnamese coffee which was delicious, but the portion was very small, and I could have drank 3 at least! If you are looking for something a little different and willing to take some misses with the hits, then give Cholon a try. read more

This place will not last! Went in last night for the first time with friends and it was super disappointing. They're out of so many items, just blamed distributors, and refused to offer any substitutions or discounts. They didn't offer us plates so I went up and got our own disposable "boats". ChoLon puts a fun twist on a variety of dishes you may or may not recognize. Their staff is both enthusiastic about the food there and attentive to their tables. I had an amazing experience! My favorites: - The Kaya toast is WOW. They smeared delicious sweet coconut jam on pieces of toast that you dip into a savory egg emulsion. The combo leaves you with a sweet and peppery after taste. Apparently this dish is not for everyone, but everyone should definitely try it. We were told it's inspired by a common breakfast in Singapore. - The tofu bao bun was also a favorite. The hoisin sriracha sauce is SO good, though the bun is on the sweeter side - The Pimm Spritz was SO delicious Honorable mentions - The butternut squash dumplings are rich, delicious and kind of explode with flavor - The French onion soup dumpling is honestly just FUN. It's kind of wild to see what is clearly a dumpling end up tasting like French onion soup Would skip next time: - The scallion pancakes. I love scallion pancakes and these were made a little different in a crustier dough. The flavors were kind of there but this one didn't hit the mark for me - The Korean fried chicken. In pictures this looks like a thick piece of chicken but once I bit into it, it was a lot more fried dough than meat so I wouldn't order this again. Overall really enjoyed this experience! Midweek dinner date at Cholon Stapleton this week! This place is super pretty and has that rustic yet classy vibe! Came in for early dinner only to realise they had happy hour - gave us an excuse to order everything on the menu! Husband and I, both had 2 drinks each and 5 appetisers :O Our server , Marjorie was delightful - sweetest server with such amazing recommendations! I have so many favourites here, one visit is not enough to satiate your taste buds! The French onion cheese soup dumplings (what the hell! We visited Cholon, Central Park over the weekend and I couldn't wait to check it out; this was my first time dining at the Central Park location. Cholon has my death row meal and trust me when I say there is nothing like their French Onion Soup Dumplings (we frequent the location in Denver). We arrived at Cholon, Central Park and were seated in the main dining room. The aesthetic of the restaurant was unique & nautical with wood framing resembling waves, blue seating, and circular wood accented chandeliers. The staff was professional and friendly - General Manager, Monica and Server, Oliva took great care of us and made sure our lunch ran smoothly. We also got to meet Marketing department heads Samantha and Tyler who were both lovely. The Central Park Cholon location offers several different menu items than the downtown location such as sushi and several large plates. During our visit, there was even a sushi making class going on in the bar. Ross and I started off our lunch with Earl Grey Tea. The flavor profile of the black tea blend was a combination of bergamot, florals and lemony citrus. For small plates we (of course) each had our own order the French Onion Soup Dumplings made with gruyere cheese. Each dumpling order came with four dumplings served in bamboo steamers. We let the French Onion Soup Dumplings dumplings sit for about 5 minutes to cool. Once cooled, I delicately grabbed a dumpling withy my chopsticks and popped the heavenly dim sum piece into my mouth. Upon first bite, the chewy dough gave way to hot French onion soup broth and melty gruyere cheese - a savory symphony and a must order. The General Cho's Soup Dumplings were made with chicken. These doughy pockets of deliciousness were bursting with glossy broth and flavor charged with bold spice (much spicier than the french onion). A must order. The Crystal Edamame Dumplings were made with chili-ponzu and green apple (a seasonal menu item). These dumplings had a bouncy texture and the crystal edamame filling was granular yet fluffy. They were much lighter in substance than the French onion and General Cho's dumplings. A must order. The Stir Fry was made with wagyu beef and vegetables. This stiry fry was forward in soy sauce and had nice lingering heat on the tongue. The garlic and black pepper in the stir fry complemented the meaty flavor of wagyu beef and bright vegetables. The crisp bok choy had a good snap in texture against the chew of the meat. The Tempura Chicken Sliders were served with spicy aioli. The sliders were great and we loved that they were tempura fried. This made for perfectly textured chicken - crispy and light on the outside yet juicy in the middle. For dessert we had the Kaya Creme Brulee made with white pepper crumble and soy ice cream. This asian inpsired creme brulee was so unqiue and we loved it. It was a sweet, custardy spread with a warm nutty topping. The dessert had a faint taste of coconut. The soy ice cream was thick and cold against the warm vanilla custard - 10/10. read more

Such a fun experience. Our server (sorry I forgot her name) was a delight. We loved her recommendations and had a good laugh on her pronunciation for the Pork Vindaloo. She called it Vandaloo, Vindaloo and Vandelay :) I'm a food connoisseur/snob so I tend to be very particular about my food. This is an Asian fusion/modern Asian restaurant so don't expect it to taste like the traditional food. Soup dumplings - had the French onion and the pork one. We had it with the chop stick vs how it's done in China with the soup spoon etc all. Must say , I was impressed with the French onion one. Very different and really creative. Bao - got the shrimp and the pork. This is the first time I had to make my own bao. The pork belly, salad and bao came separately so had to build it myself. Again, absolutely on point here. Beef satay - the beef had the right level of seasoning, spices and cooked just right. Felt an abundance of flavors melting in my mouth. Pork pot stickers - nothing spectacular, especially after the dishes above but a solid appetizer that held its own. We got the kimchi fried rice and the pork Vindaloo to share as the entree. The fried rice was probably one of the best fried rice's I've had recently. It was a melting pot of multiple flavors with a fried egg on the top. I'm from Goa (the place pork Vindaloo originated from), so while it didn't taste like what I'm used to, it was delicious never the less. The group I came with aren't as accustomed to these dishes as I am, and they totally loved each and every dish. Been here a few times already and the last time was during restaurant week. This place is always a good vibe, always bringing the unique dishes to light. I love their spin on Asian dishes, even though it isn't the traditional way of cooking. Traditional isn't always the best, sometimes reinventing dishes make them better. First, I must say that the staff here is amazing. They definitely are in the top 5 in my book for excellent service. They are all so attentive and so nice. I would ask for recommendations and what they've recommended was always good. We arrived a little early for restaurant week and I didn't expect them to seat us at that time. But they were so accommodating and we got a seat right away. this awesome service alone sets a good tone for the meal to be a good one. I feel that ChoLon's vibe mainly caters to the younger, hipster type crowd. But I have seen all walks of life in this restaurant. It does tend to get a bit loud but I don't mind it. We are still able to talk and hear ourselves. Hell, I was even able to listen to meetings while I supposedly was working(Sorry Boss!). Parking was pretty easy. They share a parking lot with King Soopers and other restaurants but we never had a hard time finding parking. Drinks here are pretty good. They offer unique twists to cocktails that are worth trying all. I will say that drinks are slightly overpriced, but that's the alcoholic in me talking. I do like how they change up their drink menu often. Their creativity in the drinks they serve is never lacking. Their food menu also changes often. And their restaurant week menu showcased what they have to offer well. We ordered French Onion Soup Dumplings, the General Cho's Soup dumplings, Scallion Pancakes, Wagyu Beef Skewers, Pork Belly Bao Buns, Yuzu Salmon Roll,, and the Crème Brûlée. The best plate was the French Onion Soup Dumplings. Those dumplings tasted like french onion soup from heaven in a small dumpling bite. Least favorite dish was the fried chicken. The meat was a little dry and the crust was a little hard. The crème brulee made up for it though. The sweet and saltiness of the dish was done very nicely. What I would like to see is the some of the dishes from the old Ch077. Those unique dishes and drinks was what made me a fan. read more

I looooved this place! My husband and I went here for Valentine's Day and had a great time. The potstickers were the best I've ever had in my life, and the French onion soup dumplings tasted amazing. The mustard ginger sauce was wonderfully fresh, and the chicken in the ramen was crispy and tender! Highly recommend. read more

Case in point: * Crispy Fried Chicken with a trio of pickles and hot honey ranch! As crispy and crunchy as it looks, this chicken should not be overlooked. Stir Fried Malaysian noodles with scrambled egg and bean sprouts. For me, adding shrimp is a must! Pork Belly buns. Enough said. Soup dumplings. They're talked about for a reason and you just can't go here without ordering some. Blood Orange Sorbet with chai spiced cake and coconut crunch. The food was actually pretty good, but the service was terrible. Waited forever to be seated even though it was mostly empty. They were out of the tea we ordered so the waitress said she just squeezed some lemon into a different kind...? What should have been an hour long situation turned into 2 hours because no one would come back and give us a check. They add a 20% service fee and then specify that it isn't considered a tip, so please tip as well. For what? Seems like the good reviews are mostly from when it was Cholon and not the new place.
