Lunch on the spacious patio was perfect. We both had the Asian Salad which was delicious. It was made with head lettuce - would prefer crunchy Romaine & spinach. The marinated chicken, green onions, chow mein noodles and light poppy seed dressing was all so good. I will be back to try other salads. New favorite lunch out! read more

My sister & I came to the newly opened Carmel location for Sunday brunch. I ordered the combo #5, which came with hash browns, 2 eggs and a full or half order of biscuits and gravy (I opted for the half order). My sister ordered the combo #4, which was hash browns, 2 eggs, sausage or bacon and toast. Our food was out in less than 10 minutes. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the hash browns were crisp, and biscuits and gravy was delicious! My sister had fresh strawberry jam with her toast that was to die for! This is the best breakfast / lunch spot in Carmel. I adore the owner and staff. They treat you like family as soon as you walk in the door. The food is delicious! The cheese omelet and hashbrowns were average, nothing special. The pancakes were small and flat, not fluffy like you would expect when ordering out. They serve them with cheap sweet syrup, not real maple syrup. I also found their small batch ketchup to be very sweet and disgusting. Will not be going back. read more

I came here to meet friend, had not visited before. Turns out that I had the wrong day. . My server was funny and sympathetic, offered to not charge for the coffee, but I said heck no, this place smells so good I must stay! I've since been twice more and will have a birthday lunch there today. Everything is fresh, delicious, and arrives quickly. Even special requests [may I have the hash browns put in the breakfast burrito, no salsa, please don't call me a weirdo?] are accommodated with ease. Service is friendly and efficient. I certainly like this place! They make their own strawberry preserves and their own catsup, both of which are delicious! The servers have a high standard of customer service. They are polite, and they make every effort to accommodate the diner's needs. The ambiance is very relaxed - a good place for retirees (is that a compliment?). I seem to be in a rut; always getting the Combo 4. However, I can't give this place a 5 star rating for two reasons. 1. The coffee is decent, but there are no choices. 2. The "cream" they give you for the coffee is not dairy based, and it is not very creamy. So, personally, I can't go any higher than "good." The Combo 4 gives you two eggs any style, bacon or sausage, hash browns, and your choice of toast (along with the good strawberry stuff). I appreciate the opportunity to express my humble opinion. Yum! Breakfast on a Saturday is usually busy and not the best, but Uptown Cafe breaks the mold! Most menu items are scratch made in house, like the corned beef (order a side-you won't be disappointed) and the raisin bread or sour dough. Everything was delicious and fresh. read more

Wonderful food and service! We had a breakfast gathering here for a corporate event out on their patio - they supplied white tablecloths and flowers - there were several ceiling fans on the overhang which made us forget about the heat. It's surrounded by woods and was the perfect, beautiful spot! The food was great (esp the biscuits and gravy!) and the service was exceptional. Had our 1st breakfast there since its been reopened. Had eggs Benedict, i asked for sliced ham not shaved slices, didn't receive that and the waitress told him and the Holidays sauce was not done correctly! Just awful! So disappointed. My husband's meal was the standard fare, it was fine. The one thing that was in their favor, which gave it the extra star was they gave the me a real teacup and a true pot of tea. When we were asked as we were going out how was breakfast I told her about the holiday sauce she want to argue the point, I don't go to a restaurant to argue a point! I came in with my son based on some recent reviews and some friends recommending the place. My son had pancakes with bacon and I went the other way and had lunch: a mushroom and swiss double cheeseburger. My son loved his pancakes and bacon and my burger was honestly the best I've had in a long time. Cooked to perfection, juicey and a perfect balance of meat, swiss cheese and mushrooms with lettuce and tomato. Served with chips and a pickle they make in house. It hit the spot. I purposely made a Yelp account to write about the experience I had at Uptown Cafe. I have heard many good things about this place; I was looking forward to trying their bread as well as their homemade ranch sauce. My husband and I were in the Carmel area because of work, and we decided to try Uptown. I ordered the Chicken Salad Croissant Sandwich w/ a side of chips. I cannot complain about the sandwich because it was tasty, way better than Panera or McAlister's in the surrounding area. However, the reason why I am giving this place a 1-star rating is because of the attitude and experience of racism from our waitress assigned to us. Our waitress's name was Emilia or Amelia; I do not remember the spelling. The first incident with her is when we were first seated, and she complained to the hostess as she walked past her, saying "Why did you sit the 'Ching Chongs' in my section ". This word is a racist expression towards those of Asian descent, like my husband and me. My husband being half Japanese and myself being American born South Korean, we took offense to that, but we did not want to cause a scene confronting her about the slur. The second incident happened with our waitress when my husband asked for refills of our Ice Brewed tea after our food was brought out, she rolled her eyes at us when we hailed her down from the hostess stand. She grabbed our glasses and filled them up with Sweet Tea instead of the unsweet we already had. My husband is a Type II diabetic and cannot have sweet tea because it contains too much sugar. After this incident, we both were just ready for our check and to-go boxes. Once we got our check, my husband gave her 0.00 in tips because of the racist incident and carelessness regarding our order; we are usually very generous tippers, but this has been the worse customer service I have experienced. My husband decided to personally hand our waitress the check out of habit and the waitress confronted him about how "It is required to tip" and demanded us to double the tip. I did not actually look at the bill, since I was already halfway out the door. I thought the way she said it to my husband was outrageous! I have been trying to look for more information on how to contact management regarding this waitress, but I cannot find any information on their website. I just want action to be done about this waitress. This is not representative of the community in Northern Indianapolis area. I do not want the same thing happening to other patrons from this waitress. I hate to not come back to this place because it is one of the better breakfast places I have eaten at, its comparable to Cafe Patachou. read more

Christmas Eve our family enjoyed our first visit to the new Uptown Cafe and everything was exceptional! The ambiance of the cafe is very bright, open, lots of windows, decor is cheerful as is the staff. We didn't wait for a table and our food was delivered quickly as well. We ordered the French Melt; Turkey Bacon Ranch Wrap and a Western Omelet - all were delicious and portions were huge. The sides we had were hash browns and grape salad - yum! Also we enjoyed an order of breadsticks unlike any we've had at another restaurant - fresh out of the oven, baked on site & very large in size. The condiments we discovered are also freshly made including - ranch dressing; cheese sauce; hot sauce; ketchup, strawberry jam and pies can be ordered too. In addition to a separate room that can be rented there's also a very large outdoor patio area for warm weather that I imagine will be gorgeous when the spring; summer; fall foliage is present. Horrible experience. We went in after church with our 3 young kids and ordered 3 hot dogs, 2 fried eggs and a quesadilla. 20 minutes after we ordered the food still hadn't arrived and we were getting antsy. I asked the server where our food was and she said "it's next up". Then 10 minutes after that (30 min after we ordered) I asked again and that's when she said they lost our order and hadn't started making it. After 15 minutes the server should've asked the kitchen where our food was and that's when the mistake should've been realized. All three of our kids were extremely hungry so we couldn't wait around for them to screw up our order again so we left. I've spent many years in the restaurant industry and know that mistakes happen but this was a horrible display of attention to detail and being mindful of your tables.
