The Upstream has long been one of my favorite restaurants in Omaha. Never had a bad meal there. They offer a great selection of delicious beers and yummy appetizers. Their soups are flavorful and really warm you up on those cold nights walking around downtown. Their pizzas are hearty and offer a vast selection for everyone to enjoy. I recently ordered their artichoke dip to go, because it is legit one of my FAVORITE things in the world. It's so creamy and savory. Plus that toasted wheat bread is like crack. It's just the PERFECT combination of textures and flavors. And this time was no exception. The only downside was that there wasn't nearly enough dip and I had three pieces of bread left over plus veggies. The container it came in was pretty small and the dip itself is a little on the pricey side (but not unreasonably so). It would've been nice to have a bit more artichoke dip to enjoy with all the vessels it came with. But that's really my only critique. I've been coming to Upstream since it first opened. Most visits to Omaha had to include a trip or two to Upstream. Though, this last visit had been the first in a few years. Their menu is ever-evolving, at least from my perspective. On this last visit, I don't think I recognized most items on the menu. My favs over the years have included the fish n chips, the mac n cheese, and the buffalo chicken wrap. I also liked their shrimp pizza. Some of these items are still on the menu, some aren't. I mostly perplexed, though, by the lack of my fav Upstream beer. It was raspberry. Or maybe it was blackberry. I want to say it was a cider, but I think it was actually a lager or hef. Anyone remember? I asked our server and he stated he's worked there for 4 years and never heard of it. I know I'm not crazy. But I feel like I'm going crazy. That beer did in fact exist here. I swear. Or I think so. Anyways, on this visit we had a variety of apps. All of them were great and tasty. The pretzel encrusted cheese curds were a unique standout. And I loved the gouda mustard dip that came with the pretzel bites. The bacon wrapped shrimp were great. Though, I could've done without all the slaw and whatnot that came with it (but that's just my personal preference). I also took a chance and ordered the NY strip. Oh my! It was absolutely wonderful. So tasty! Even the frites and salad it came with were tasty. It absolutely exceeded my expectations. Every little part of this dish was fab. Overall, I was pretty impressed with my latest visit here. We ordered Door Dash while working out of town. Highly recommend. I got the Adult Grilled Cheese. I was a bit worried as a grilled cheese often does not survive delivery. It was great-melty, cheese, bread perfectly toasted and the apple was perfect. As an accompaniment, I chose the cup of gouda soup and should have ordered a bowl. Its amazing. I am actually googling Gouda soup recipes-I liked it that much. We also orderd the hummus trio. SOOOO GOOD! Council Bluffs/Omaha is lucky to have this restaurant. We randomly chose this spot and it actually turned out better than expected. The Reuben soup for St. Patty's day was amazing and hit the spot. The bbq chicken pizza was well prepared but the bbq burger was over-sauced. The cheese curds tasted like mozzarella so that was a let down. To begin this place is HUGE ! There's a distillery, full beer menu, food menu and cocktail menu. There's ample seating for all in a nice upscale yet relaxed atmosphere. With TVs all over for sports and they also have other sorts of entertainment- something about cards to the ceiling and other things I'm not quite sure what that's about. The beer menu is extensive with lots of offerings and decent in taste nothing to rave about but still good. The food menu is a little different which I found to be the case around all of Omaha ... however many things stuck out to me I wanted to try and the really nice waitress told me to go with the grain bowl and I wouldn't be disappointed- so I trusted her. She was right, it was delicious but it is definitely not your typical grain bowl from corelife or chipotle or anything you're used to - it's all grain. But again still good. My boss got the seafood stew stroganoff dish and was very disappointed saying it had zero. Flavor or spicing. We also got the spinach dip entree which was very good yet different - huge thick slices of brown toasted bread with a very small bowl of little spinach cream with fresh parm over it. I found it very hard to find a good place to eat based on recommendations from yelp and locals ... but what I landed on ended up being okay - my suggestion to visitors is don't stray from the too unorthodox foods and you'll be good read more

This is a great spot to visit while in Omaha! I came here with a group of coworkers while traveling and it was a great choice. I love that it is located in the downtown area and we were able to walk to it. For my beer I went with their classic IPA. It was simple yet a solid choice. I ordered the gouda beer cheese soup as an appetizer and it was delicious. The cheese was so rich! I also ordered the BBQ pizza for my meal. The pizza had andouille sausage which was super unique. It was great and the sausage gave it more flavor than chicken normally does. My only issue was the service was a bit slow and we had to wait a while to place our orders. I did hear from a few people that wait staff shortages is what is to blame and it seems like it is affecting multiple places in Omaha. Other than that we had a great evening. read more

We stopped in this joint after dinner at Spaghetti Works and it was a nice place. A lot of these place look pretty similar in layout on the inside, probably because of the historic buildings in which they reside. The beer selection wasn't my favorite. In my opinion, there wasn't a huge variety as far as types of beer and the menu was slightly confusing. That being said, the waiter was kind enough to let me try a few of the beers so that I could decide which one I wanted to order. He also made a few recommendations to my friends on some yummy cocktails. This didn't have a brewery feel, but it was a spacious place and overall, pretty nice. read more

Was looking for food my 6, 8, and 10 year-olds would eat while my wife and I could enjoy a beer after a day at the Omaha zoo. This micro pub nailed it. Outside patio was spacious and was not crowded at 5pm on a Wednesday night. We ordered and had our food within 20 minutes. Beer flights of local brews were delicious. Some of my favorite memories are at Upstream Brewing Co. When I have friends or family in town, it's usually the go-to. There's a large selection of rotating craft brews and cocktails that are always yummy and fit with the season. The menu is large and there's a good variety so everyone can enjoy something. My favorite is the tortellini. Last time I was in, the food wasn't as great as normal and the service wasn't up to it's normal standard. It could just be the time of year, though. The place was hopping for a Wednesday evening (we arrived around 7) but our server assured us everything was coming out quickly. I had the smoked Gouda and beer soup and it was one of the best cheese soups I've had. Homemade - none of that prepackaged stuff. Husband had the pretzels, which were served with a bit of the soup for dipping, plus homemade stone ground mustard, which he raved about. Our server was kind enough to bring us another small container to take home. For my flight, I had the O! Gold Light Lager, Strawberry Basil Bliss (hard cider), Jack's Craft, and Firehouse Red Lager. All were tasty, but for a hot day I'd look at the Strawberry Basil Bliss to keep things light. Definitely will come back again when we have more time to try a meal. read more

I don't live in Omaha, but the city is only 1 1/2 (ish) hours away so I visit about every other month for sure. Not this particular restaurant, but the city in general. I almost always go eat somewhere that is not a chain or at least a chain I don't have at home. I've been to the Upstream Brewing Company around 5 times, so that goes to show how much I like the place. It's usually very, very busy so expect a wait; even if you had a reservation. My cousin had a reservation here to start her bachelorette party and we still had to wait 25 minutes. We also had to wait about that much time to get our drinks. (We stared at them on a tray at the bar, but no one was delivering them. I almost went and grabbed the tray myself.) But the food was great and we had a good evening. The BEST meal I've had here was when my husband and I started our 'honeymoon' in Omaha. We couldn't afford to go anywhere too far so we just splurged the best we could locally. I had this sweet tart martini. I swear it's the best martini I've ever had. We got an appetizer that was just ok. I don't even quite remember what it was, I just remember we weren't too excited about it. I do remember getting some kind of shrimp pasta and I finished the whole plate. I rarely do that at a restaurant. My husband loved sampling the beers on tap and his steak was super delicious. We also had a really good waitress. I think we left a $20 for her tip. I always ask for drink / food recommendations to help expand my palette and she was wonderful in directing each of us what she thought we would like. I am writing this to offer areas of opportunity for Upstream Brewing to make their customer service a bit better. I'm in town for a conference and came here with a group of colleagues on Wednesday for lunch. We had a wonderful lunch and enjoyed the food. We were curious about the cards on the ceiling and was informed by our helpful wait staff about the magician who performs on Tuesday and Thursday evening. I was able to get a group together to go back on Thursday evening to catch the magician. When we arrived, I explicitly mentioned to the two hostesses that we had lunch the day before and returned to catch the magician. Was he around. They confirmed yes so we decided to wait for a table. 20 minutes of waiting (and seeing the magician talk to the hostesses), my group got antsy and was ready to leave. I went back up to the front and ask estimated time as we would leave if it's going to take any longer. FYI, we've noticed empty booths and tables the entire time we waited. She said the tables were being readied and we'll be seated soon. Waited another 5 minutes and they said they need to put water on the table. We finally got seated in the empty space that I had saw when we first arrived, got our order in and asked if the magician was around as it was now approaching 9pm. We were told the magician left awhile ago as it was a slow night. This was extremely disappointing as I had explicitly shared that was the reason why we were here to the hostesses and they chatted with the magician and didn't inform him to wait. He left before the advertised hours that he would be around. I had no issues with the wait staff and thought their level of service was wonderful. Had we been a different type of group, we could have made their job a lot harder after getting the lack of care from the hostesses. Just providing feedback that hostesses didn't seem like they care much about the customer experience that the wait staff had shown. read more

Wonderful, family-friendly restaurant with (mostly) tasty food and friendly service! I love going with places since I get to try more than one plate, and my party was very happy with all the food. For an appetizer, the artichoke dip is hard to beat. It has its own unique flavor and the soft bread for it pairs well. The fish and chips was great for a light meal - it was both crispy and fresh (not too salty either like some places). The stragonoff was also good (I hear)... it was the one plate my brother gobbled up before I had a chance to try. The one plate I would NOT recommend, and the reason for the 4 stars, was the asian salad. Though advertised on the menu as a favorite, it was way too salty - like pacific ocean meets the dead sea salty. I'm not sure who had the idea to put salted peanuts with a dressing made mostly of soy sauce, but it does not work. Maybe I need to explore more of Old Market, but the last few times I visited (until coming across Upstream), it was hard to find a casual dine-in spot for high-quality family meals. I'm happy to say that Upsteam meets this (save for the salad), and I can't wait to go back the next time I'm in town. read more

I have been coming to Upstream for I believe over 15 years now. Upstream is for sure an Old Market Staple. Always busy and lively. The menu is on the smaller side with a good spread of options. The beer list also covers all the bases. From the dining and service experience you would expect this place to be a chain but it is not. I feel the beers are meh at best. Hardly any carbonation and no foam. Many of the cocktails use mixes instead of using the proper ingredients. IE Margaritas... all use margarita mix. The food is iffy. one of the saddest burgers in town. No flavor with hard old buns that have aged past their quality, other items are also MEH But the staff will constantly praise the chef. Upstream's brunch has seriously suffered from the post-COVID fallout. It used to be an interesting assortment of fresh foods but has declined significantly. The buffet quality was on par with a Holiday Inn continental breakfast. Liquid artificial eggs, gooey hash browns, tasteless fish. Fortunately, there was at least bacon. Remaining assorted fruit and pastries were straight from Sam's Club and were never replenished in the 90 minutes of us being there. There was an omelet bar and carving station but the dude kept disappearing. When we were able to pin him down, we found that the roast beef was not rare but raw and inedible and the omelet was too oily to consume.
