Great steaks, that's why we go. Third time there and food was great, although bread could be warmed. Relaxed, upscale family oriented dining. Hostess, Gentry, was not welcoming, no smile, no conversation just to our seat and slap down the menu. I think we inconvenienced her...sorry. (Hostess definition does encompass entertaining guests). Brandon was a good and attentive waiter, but the busy honey bee bringing scores of plates up and down the stairs, Gladys, stole the show and our votes. Need more Gladys employees. Upstream Brewing - Omaha! Of course the steaks and corn, and potatoes are the best! Yum! - Bars Near Me - Omaha, Nebraska

I've been to Upstream several times now, and it's become a go-to spot for me in Omaha, at least once or twice while I'm there. The draw, for me at least, is definitely the beer. They do a really good job. Everything on the list, from the standards, to the seasonals, to the "brewer's whims" are very well done. The location is a mixed blessing. It's got a cool patio and it's nice vibe being in Old Market, but the parking isn't the best, particularly on the weekends, and it's annoying to have to feed the meter if you come for happy hour, before the meters stop (which is probably why they do it then). I haven't had a lot of the food, but it seems to be very hit or miss. Like I said, I would come here for the beer, then maybe get food if you were hungry. Then again, considering the sort of food options that are generally available in Old Market (i.e. - kinda crappy), it's definitely above par. The big thing that really throws me off with this place is the air of pretentiousness. On the front door is written "Proper attire required." Really? Is that necessary? And I don't know what they mean by this because, every time I've been in there, I've been in a t-shirt, jeans and flip-flops. Maybe I can't wear a speedo and a sleeveless shirt? Maybe as a result of that, the service can be a little snobby and the place tends to get a much older crowd. I always sit at the bar, and I'm almost always the youngest one there. But they've got a monopoly on themselves here: you'll find the occasional Upstream tap around Omaha, but you will not find very much of it, and you will certainly not find some of the smaller batch specialty beers they do, which often are their best offerings. So, with the beer, there's really something for everyone. When I'm in here, people tend to go for the wheat. I guess to each his own, but I don't think much of wheat beers in general, although this one isn't bad. The IPA is overly dry-hopped, but is generally pretty good. The red is kind of like a Rock Bottom or Granite City red in that it's safe, but it's a little more sugary (read: higher ABV), a little hoppier and, therefore, a little more adventurous than the corporate versions. And there are a couple of other standards that I won't get into, but they stay competitive with those other guys down the street in that respect. But then move on to their seasonals and their "brewer's whims," which are the ones that I think really show off what this place can do. Take, for instance, the Leeroy Jenkins (how cool is that?) they had on when I was there most recently. It's an imperial India brown. How often do you see that? I mean, IBA's are becoming more popular since Dogfish put out theirs, but you never see it in imperial form. And it's actually really, really good. Higher ABV, but you would never know it drinking it. Then there's the Horse Feathers, named after a type of whiskey. And that's what it tastes like. Not for me, but if you like that sort of beer, then you would enjoy this because I will say that this one is well done. This last time, they also had a maibock on. Maibocks are really easy to ruin by getting the sugars too high, but they did a really job on this one. And the really cool thing about it is that, when you come in throughout, say, a year, you'll likely find different beers on tap almost every time. That's just how they work here, and I really appreciate that. But I should also mention the happy hour. $2 drafts are present (plus tax), but they've also improved their food menu (they just have half-price appetizers as opposed to the happy hour menu they used to have) in the last year or so to make it something that you could actually make a meal out of. Mostly $3-6. It's nice to have something to fill the stomach when you're downing the beer. I don't think that I would necessarily tell anyone to go way out of their way for this place but, for pretty much the only visitable brewpub within Omaha proper (Nebraska Brewing is in Papillion, so I'm not counting it here), they do well. If you came through Omaha and you liked good, craft beer, then this would certainly be worth your time. Omaha's a great town anyway, so this could be your excuse to get off the interstate. read more

Returned to Omaha for a trip down memory lane which can rustle up a massive thirst. Kudos to fellow Yelpers for their reviews of this place. Located in the Old Market area, this brewpub is housed in what was once a fire station. Wife has the grilled salmon with ratatouille which she said was "wonderful". I had the burger with bacon which was also very good. But I was really there for the beer. I had the lager which was perfect for a late lunch. Great food and drink in a historic setting. I could almost hear the footsteps of the likes of Buffalo Bill Cody and Gen. George Custer from nearby Ft. Crook. read more

Came here after my best friend and her husband picked me up from the airport. The service was good but the food was meh. We got the artichoke appetizer which was alright. We all got the New York strip steak with arugula salad and pomme frites. The fries were the best. The steak was okay. Maybe it's because I'm more of a ribeye kinda girl. read more

Beer was okay, everyone was friendly. The place was really busy. I might would go back again?

Try the cask beer. The service is great as well.

Well, I did not do the take out. The beer is still tasty. But with a large group I was able to have a taste of three things. The Pork Schnitzel is off the hook. Enough food to share and perfectly crispy-coated with breadcrumbs. Tender and tasty inside. Then they give you some garlic smashed potato insanity. Don't even THINK about the calories!!! The pot roast was also tasty. I real winner in fact for the the conservative pallet. Finally, the Grilled Chimichurri Chicken was OK. But that was not Chimichurri, I can assure you. No spice, no tangy zing of vinegar, no pronounced herbal not from parsley or cilantro. What was THAT??? Bland chicken, that's what! At least they gave me some perfectly prepared jalapeno julienne to add a little flavor when I asked for it. : ) read more

Loved the Thai Ginger pizza, but this place really is all about the beers! My group was in town for work this week and stopped in for dinner Monday. The beer selection is amazing. I loved the samplers! Was not a fan of the smokehouse alt, but you should try the Dundee Scotch Ale at least once. It's heavy with coffee flavor, which may not be up everyone's alley. The Gettin' Ginger Wit It wheat beer, though, is out of this world! read more

In Omaha for College World Series and I make the rounds of the restaurants I"ve been to previously while at CWS. Upstream Brewing is an excellent choice to get a good meal and drinks in downtown Omaha. It was a meal where the wait staff can read the patron and know: This guy is here to relax, eat, read and chill out. Very low maintenance customers = me! Good selection of a wide variety of food (typical for a brewing / sports barish / etc. restaurant. Large space with lots of tables and I can imagine can be really crowded during peak dining times. Recommended! read more

Great place! Always a good time, beer is always great and so is the food! Josh is a fantastic bartender and is always on top of it! My fiancee and I come about 3-4 times a month and has always been a pleasant experience. read more

Came here with a big group (and we were seated next to a bigger group). Service was great, all of the food came out well, and the beer was a nice complement. If I find myself in Omaha again I will try to make it here again. The street parking was all full so we paid to park in a lot, but I hate parking on the street and it's always good to see a busy downtown area. read more

Place was really busy for a Wednesday night. Went here with colleagues from work. They are a micro brewery and had lots of unique offerings. I didn't drink but several of the people I went with did. Overall the brews weren't too bad according to them. They had several different menu options from pizza, burgers, steaks and salads. I split a thin crust shrimp chile pizza. It was thin and small enough you could definitely eat it yourself. It was really good and unique. What I was most impressed with was our food came quickly. Our waitress was good. Kept our drinks coming. Place was clean and nicely decorated. I'm just not that big into breweries and it wasn't meme table enough for me to give it a five star. read more

Review is only for food, not beer. More like a 3.8 place. Overall chill spot. Came for happy hour late lunch around 3pm. Appetizers are -$3 so we got the chicken wings and hummus platter. Chicken wings were average tasting. The 3 types of hummus they bring were good though. Paired with toasted pita bread. I also tried the beer and Gouda soup. This was actually the best thing I had here. Was creamy but tasteful. Entree, wanted a salad. Had that "our signature" symbol next to the Thai Chicken Salad. For an American beer place.. Umm okay, if you recommend it! I like thai flavors. It was decent. Don't know where the thai flavors went but the dressing was pretty tasty. I liked the chicken since it was chopped and not shredded, like other places in Omaha I've been to. Service was decent. read more

This is an "ok" eatery. Came in at happy hour and was excited to see a draft root beer on the menu. Ordered the chili and calamari. Root beer is pretty bland - nothing on the same scale as Virgil's or Brandenburg. Half of the plate of Calamari was just fried batter with no calamari and only enough dipping sauce (from a jar) for a third of the plate. Too heavily battered. It is served with pickled peppers from a jar. Some fresh, slightly grilled, fresnos would be a much nicer touch. The Chili was not bad, but was served only with a generic package of saltines. I half expected a decent piece of bread with it. The menu looked good and I was excited to try it out for a couple nights while in town on business. But, there is nothing here to write home about. Not worthy of a second visit. read more

Let me start by saying I am from Texas, and with that comes a love of steak, and beer. So in visiting Omaha we HAD TO HAVE STEAK.... I chose this place because it seemed all the steak houses in the area had mediocre ratings, and this one had a brewery. We both had the special which was a fillet, with hash browns, grilled Green beans, and a sauce that was more like a mushroom gravy. Steak were ordered medium rare. The steaks were a little underdone in some areas (not to the point to be detrimental to the meal) BUT they were melt in your mouth, the gravy sauce I could have licked off the plate. We had a few beers that were fantastic, and took the beer sampler tour which was something neither my fiance or I have done. All in all I want to take the steak home, service was fast friendly and knew what the restaurant had to offer. It was a nice evening out or a Nice dinner in a strange town, and not having options like this in my home town reminds me how lucky I am to travel to see places like this. read more

I attended a wedding in Omaha over a long weekend and was in the mood for some steak. The groom recommended this place so I decided to check it out. The restaurant is huge with an elevator that allows the less able patrons to access the second floor. There are also TVs everywhere, we were able to catch the World Cup final, as that was on every set. I was disappointed by my meal. I had the New York Strip with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables and some sort of butterscotch butter and it was just all right at best. My mother had the filet mignon and she liked hers a lot. I didn't try any of the beer, having had my fill at the wedding and dinner the nights before, but my father enjoyed the glass he had. read more

Great service. Interesting beers. Lunch was is tasty but very rich. Try the Gouda soup. read more

Upstream Brewing - Bars Near Me - Omaha, Nebraska

This place is basically too busy and victim of their own success. A few glitches, we had an open table reservation and didn't get the points credit but at least we got seated promptly. The front hostess was not the most friendly. After that things got better. Our waitress was excellent. Food and beer came a bit slowly but that didn't prevent us from enjoying the evening. Agreed the beer here is excellent. As far as the food goes, nothing impressive but yet solid and good for a pub. We had a dinner special, fresh salmon from the Pacific Northwest which was excellent and so were the sides: broccolini, mushrooms, risotto. The white shrimp pizza was OK but for $10 what do you expect? Skip the desserts, they are not worth your pennies. Overall a good experience and agreed with the other reviewers the beer is worth going for just be ready to put up with the "factory" like atmosphere. read more

Upstream is a local favorite of ours. We absolutely love their happy hour menu and it is the perfect place to go during the week to meet with friends after work. I also really enjoy their craft beer selection! Their service and menu is consistent and I never have to worry about ordering something that I won't like. You can always count on Upstream to deliver quality food and craft beer! read more

Upstream Brewing - Bars Near Me - Omaha, Nebraska

Great vibe! Amazing food! Beers are bomb! Wait staff was a bit slower but everything else far outweighed it!

While the service and atmosphere were nice - the food was just a 3. My husband had fish and chips - the fish was greasy and mushy. I had shrimp and pasta. It was not hot - the flavor was just okay - 5 small shrimp. Probably will skip next time. read more

Came here on a recent trip to Omaha. To start we ordered 3 samplers among the 3 of us. I'd have to say a samplers a great way to get shitfaced in 20 degree weather. I certainly got a warm buzz going. I ordered the pot roast which was a little dry, but what isn't solved with gravy? The burger which I shared part of was decent, but not stellar. The service here was great, and the beer is fantastic. Food, I'd say was as expected for a brewery. read more

We hadn't been here in awhile and came back in December to meet friends that were at a Holiday party upstairs. I love the inside of this place, it is so Old Market Style and cozy! We headed straight to the bar and the bar service was great, they are so on it with the drinks, the beer knowledge and the food service! We had a great time that night! Although the hubby wasn't used to the alcohol content in the beers and had a bit of a hangover the next day. We had wonderful shrimp with a spicy sauce and great slaw! The little pizzas were awesome, we made our own with hamburger, mushrooms and onions. The bar is a great place to have cocktails, appetizers, and people watch. Can't wait to go back! read more

We were passing through Omaha and decided it was time for dinner. The first restaurant we found online that was open on Sunday evening was Upstream Brewing Company. I had the Beef Tip grain bowl amd my husbamd had the fish and chips. I paired my dinner with the white stout (you should try it) and he had the malt beer flight. Wonderful meal, great service. I wish I,had, the occasion to go through Omaha more, often.,,we would return again and again read more

Everything I've had here is amazing. The shrimp firecracker pizza is personally my favorite, and their draft beer is always very good. You can't really go wrong with any of the food, Plus the waiters and waitresses are always very friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is cozy and it is a great place to come for just appetizers and drinks, or for a full meal. read more

I've been coming to this place for years, mainly for their beer and pool. Their pool tables are some of the nicest in town and are well maintained. The food is slightly above average. Wednesday nights they have cheap beer and pizza after 9 if I'm not mistaken. The place gets pretty busy and the bar upstairs is a fun place to hang out. They also have a patio upstairs which is great for the hot summer nights. read more

This has become a staple for me in the Old Market. I love the outdoor seating-and it's first come, first serve....allowing for some good hovering and elbow throwing drama during the Summer. They make killer root beer, black bean burger, gnocchi, and real burger. In addition, their beer is nice. I always see people man-handling their massive beer sampler platters, where they get something like a dozen different samples of beer! Ah, someday! read more

Beer: Great Food: So-So - For NE, I thought the steak would be better - don't get me wrong, it was good, but not HUGELY good - the vegetables were REALLY BAD - I mean really, they were out of a freeze bag, boiled (FUBAR) to mush, and thrown on the plate - no taste, no presentation, no bite, no nothing Service: Good We sat on the upper deck and that was fun. read more

Well.. Well.. Well.. Beef and Beer! Shame on me for letting my phone die so you couldn't indulge in the mouth watering feast Upstream put before us. They looked absolutely delicious. They tasted fine. Cooked perfectly but a little under seasoned. Nothing that couldn't be solved with gold 'ole table salt. TADA! If you like BEER this is the place to be. They have a large selection with seasonal choices as well. Most of which they brew in house. I chose a non alcoholic option and went with their house made root beer. Move over commercial varieties! I was a fresh root beer virgin prior to this experience, but I'd be remiss to say I may prefer the home made version. Not as harsh on the bubbles yet remarkably sweet. After your meal you can cue up on the pool tables! BEER + BEEF + POOL = FIN UPSTREAM! read more

The atmosphere and food here are decent, as long as you aren't expecting more than bar fare. It's still fun to stop in for dinner before going out to the other bars, but it's not as upscale as it used to be. read more

Great local Omaha brewey. The food menu is excellent as well. I spend a couple of weeks in Omaha every fall and Upstream is always one of my first stops. They have quite a few pool tables upstairs as well as another bar. The staff has always been friendly, patient and helpful every time that I have been there. I usually stick to the seasonal beers and they have a great sour saison on tap right now. This is definitely a stop I recommend for anyone who has a little free time and happens to be thirsty. read more

Upstream Brewing - Dry hopped sour saison - Bars Near Me - Omaha, Nebraska

Seated fairly promptly on a weekend, but everything went downhill from that point. The waitress that took our order was sick and coughing. We both ordered the Schnitzel, but my wife had to return her meal because of being overcooked ( fried dark and dry). The schnitzel could definitely use more sauce regardless of the entrees cook level. My daughter ordered the root salad but was disappointed by the lack of "roots". Our party of four had almost finished their meal with the exception of my wife before she received her replacement order. The meal itself is not deserving of the price point set by this restaurant based on quality, service level, attention to detail, and portion size. Always remember to ask for your silverware before your meal is delivered. In addition, be prepared to ask another server when your first request goes unfilled, otherwise you could have a meal setting in front of you getting extremely cold and nothing to drink. This review was based on a very bad experience last summer. Somethings you never forget...... Spoke to the manager and explained the details of our bad experience so he could work on correcting these deficiencies. Hopefully improvements have been made! read more

First meal in town for Thanksgiving weekend and I'm glad we took the family to Upstream. Only a block from our hotel, and great happy hour deals in the bar area. $3 off appetizers, and for the beer flights they let you pick any 4 that you want (even seasonal and special releases). Jae took care of us with food and beer suggestions. The kids loved the bacon wrapped shrimp, burger and fries. My wife loved the pickle chips and my blackened salmon salad with house made vinaigrette was perfect. Very family friendly, my daughter asked if we could come back every night while we are in town. read more

This was my first time here and I have to agree with the other reviewers that the food was just ok. I had the Gouda soup which was pretty good but defintely not healthy! I had the grilled chicken penne pasta which didn't have much flavor. I think the flavor was supposed to come from the peppers but I was still not impressed. Peach cheesecake was also just ok. The beer selection was great and my table consumed a lot! Our server was very efficient. I'd recommend the outdoor seating if the weather is nice. Go here for drinks and atmosphere, not the food. read more

This review is for only drinks and atmosphere; Came here looking to watch the SHARKS playoff game against Chicago. The server told us to go upstairs where they had tv's and drinks. We found a table and our waitress gave us menu's. The game was on, so I didn't have to request it. There are many drinks to choose from, but not all of it is available. My fiance tried to order the rasberry beer and they were all out of it! How do you run out of it?! The drinks were good and the final bill was cheap. By midnight, everyone was gone and we were the only ones finishing up our drinks. Overall decent place for drinks while visiting and you watch the locals in action. read more

This is my kind of place. From the open floor plan, to the huge rectangle copper topped bar. It's an enormous microbrewery with upstairs seating and flat screens strategically placed for your peepers. I only tried the smoked Gouda & beer soup. It has rich smooth, creamy texture with pebbles of onions, celery, and carrots, garnished with parsley. I am going to call it a must order. It comes in a cup or bowl. I hear this place gets crazy during the college world series. But it seems it would be a cool hang out for a any size group of homies or if your flying solo and just want to down a pint. read more

Upstream Brewing - 12 beer sampler - Bars Near Me - Omaha, Nebraska

Bottom line up front: come here for the beer, but don't expect fantastic food. Beer: Good selection of beer. If you can't decide on which one, I suggest trying the 2oz sampler where you can have a taste of all selections of beer. After trying the samples, I ended up liking the "firehouse red", and the "cask ale". I also recommend the root beer. It's pretty tasty. I bought a jug of root beer. Food: I'm not that impressed. This is Omaha. Steaks are supposedly famous here. But I can't justifying buying steak here. It's just not delicious. I always order medium rare. But my steaks come out medium to medium well. The flavor of the steaks are generally laced with sauces. It's not my preference but at least the sauces are nicely flavored. The salmon dish is well cooked. Chicken plates are generally tender. Service: Average service. Nothing special. read more
