This cafe and caterer is located by the university in Edmonton. Great for lunches. Hearty chicken salad sandwich with real cheddar and and multigrain bread. The potato salad was excellent. Also enjoyed the fruit crisp. Has very healthy choices. Prices very reasonable and good decor. It's really a 5 star place for people on a budget. Includes a selection of Canadian brewed beers and a selection of wines. Parking can be challenging. The prime rib and mashed potatoes were mouth watering! Ok I'm salivating here. read more

I stopped to pick up lunch. A salad and a loaf of cornbread. Imagine my surprise when I went to eat and found the cornbread frozen. Yup. They gave a frozen loaf to go. I went back. They said sorry. So much for my tasty lunch. Is this acceptable for a bakery to substitute with a frozen product and not even bother to ask if that's okay with the customer? read more

My husband and I finally got in here after seeing good reviews and wanting to visit. It was an absolutely gorgeous fall day, so we sat outside, and had one of the most wonderful breakfasts we've had in town. Our server was polite, funny, and informative, and we were very happy with what we got. I had the Eggs Florentine and the Muesli with yogurt and hazelnuts. Both were delicious. My husband also enjoyed his dish, and he usually finds a way to grump about anything (so that tells you something right there). We'll definitely be back. read more

I ordered chocolate cupcakes and requested white icing for my nephews bday ... arrived and the cupcakes had chocolate icing. The employee cheerfully told me they must have made a mistake and offered me a cookie for compensation. I also ordered veg lasagna and chicken pie ... both were average... we all had a few bites to try it ... and then we made our own supper ... and the kids never ate the cupcakes! Epic fail! read more

My work often orders catering from upper crust and I haven't been disappointed yet. Their sandwiches are pretty good and they have good spreads for a decent price. Their cakes are amazing! YES. I love this place. The food is great, the dessert is even better. I would seriously consider having dessert for my meal and then a different dessert for dessert if that were socially acceptable. Upper crust is a great place for both lunch and dinner, but it's usually pretty busy. Not many people see, to know about it as it seems to be a little bit hidden. A Bit(e) of Charm in Old Garneau My first taste of Upper Crust Cafe food was at a catered private event, and it was the most un-catered like food I'd ever had. There was so much fresh fruit of every type and pastries and sandwiches all prepared with very well chosesn ingredients. So when a couple of my co-workers had a craving for bit of their taffy sauced dessert I didn't want to miss a chance of experiencing the rest of their food (I'm not always a dessert fan). Although I only had their tuna sandwich it was accompanied by what I was told would be some of the very best potato salad I would ever taste, and in my opinion they were not wrong. It seemed to have been made in a way that the potatoes were first marinated or soaked in a tangy marinade then mixed into a light creamy dressing. I've also been told that one of my co-workers has the recipe so I'm eager to see why it tasted to good.The coffee was also just as good as anything I could get in a coffee shop (like Transcend just down the street) only theirs comes with refills. I found my sandwich portion to be quite large and although the potato salad was probably the best potato salad I've had in a long while, on this cold day I would have preferred a small bowl of soup and a half sandwich. One of my coworkers had a salad sampler plate made up of four choices, another had the Mediteranean Salad, and sadly I can't remember some of the other choices but all of us agreed that the ingredients were fresh and the food was satisfying and tasty. This review is only for the baked goods offered by Upper Crust Cafe. I must report that I find myself underwhelmed by their undersized and overpriced baked goods. I've tried several of their offerings to date, and they never left me thinking "oh, wow, that was great". They should also get proper takeout boxes for their cake slices. Putting oversized cake slices on tiny disposable plates and covering them with plastic clingfilm? Really? That's the very heights of class. My daughter is going to grad school at U of A and I am up from the San Francisco Bay Area to help. She asked to pick a restaurant for this evening so I went on Yelp and liked the reviews for Upper Crust and so there we were for dinner. The server Terri was great. There were 3 of us and two of us had Tilapia and one had the trout of course being from the bay area we started with the California salad which was great and we finished the meal with a lovely creme brûlée. This hidden gem has fantastic food. Everything is so fresh and flavorful. Pretty good service a bit slow. I'm not a big dessert eater but had to order the double chocolate cheesecake. Two of us for lunch bill came to $60.00 with a filling meal (beef sandwich and shepherd's pie with salad). Decor a bit dated but maybe that's the look they are going for. I had my first visit yesterday when I took my friend out for a birthday lunch and was impressed! This place has the freshest, yummiest sandwiches and scrumptious desserts to follow! It was refreshing to leave lunch with a full belly but not that sickening gross feeling when you leave a restaurant that filled you with grease and who knows what :P I recommend going early (11:00 am) to get a table, as shortly after we entered there was a line up. We dropped into the Upper Crust Cafe last week for the first time. Thankfully, there were several gluten-free choices on the menu. The Thai Curry was so good that I ate it much too quickly. My kids liked their burger and salad, but the winner of the meal was the freshly baked rolls! The kids want to go back just for the rolls. The atmosphere was pleasant however, the washroom had only three squares of toilet paper on the roll...it reminded me of home. People of Edmonton know where to look for best desserts; and every time I was at Upper Crust, the place was extremely busy. Customers willingly endure standing in long queue because they know that the wait will result in them going home with an amazing cake. I had the pleasure of ordering a chocolate cheesecake which became a total hit at a birthday party. It was sweet, moist and rich - none of that whipped airy nonsense. Pies and cheesecakes by the slice are an excellent option if you want to familiarize yourself with Upper Crust café's selection. A really charming and nice place to eat. The restaurant itself is a wonderful historic building, with a simple but wonderful vibe. They also have a counter of deli food and bakery goods you can get to go. I have never had a bad meal there, and their menu is constantly changing. And although it's a take out item, they have probably the best potato salad in Edmonton. Prices are a little higher, but not out of line for the quality of food and environment. Have been coming here since it opened in 1986-was my fav place to eat. I ate there today and was very disappointed in the nonchalent service and overdone salmon on my salad. Gone are the neat little buns you used to get regardless of what you ordered. At 1300 it used to be packed -not today -there was a handful of patrons. Serving pop in a can makes in my opinion makes this restaurant low class & pouring it in a very small cup creates clutter on the very small table... Oh pouring half a can of Guinness into a small cup not good... If you had a person from Dublin there I know they would slap you... Food 3 star. All the food was great, 1 steak was not cooked to order but was rectified right away... The Sticky toffee by placing it in a microwave for over 2 minutes... Burned my mouth... I would like to see the one who put it in there try it like that... Support staff -5 stars Our waitress who was great brought out each of our meals 2 at a time... She only has 2 hands... For a large table is unextapable... It's called being a team player... My boyfriend had the soup of the day he really liked it and he also had the quesadilla and Caesar salad, quesadilla was really good he said but wasnt fussy on the Caesar salad.
