We went there to get borsch for Thanksgiving last year, and it had beef in it. It was incredible. It reminded me of my grandma's. We also got their pierogies. They had so many different kinds of filling. I'm just used to like cheddar or cottage cheese. They had ones with beef in it. They were to die for nice thin dough and incredible insides. Smells as you walk in are intoxicating. Fresh baked goods and coffee. Everything is baked in-house and looks delicious. Service was great. Seating outside was a nice touch. This place is tiny but mighty. Along with a full assortment of baked good, you can also order authentic Ukrainian food to eat in or to-go. We ordered the potato perogies with bacon on the side, cheese and dill nalesniki and the vegetarian cabbage rolls. The food took longer than expected but that's how we knew it was made fresh by order. When it came out, it was steaming hot and super delicious. My husband said the perogies taste like his grandma's. Malina Ukrainian Bakery is an easy place to find in Cameron Heights, and offers up some delicious dishes. The eating area in the bakery is fairly small, accommodating maybe 6-7 tables, with a couple of spots along the window with some high-top seats. Ordering is done at the counter, where you can drool as you look at their amazing baked goods. There is a menu at the cashier, ordering is simple and payment is up front. I had decided to go with the Perogies with Sour Cherries, my wife wanted to try the Zrazy - which is fried mashed potato patties filled with chicken and mushroom. Food is brought out to your table, and we we in for a treat. The entire meal is like you are eating in your Ukrainian Baba's kitchen. None of the ingredients came from a can. This is all made from scratch. Sooo Good ! Overall, Malina Ukrainian Bakery is definitely on my rotation of fave places. Located just off the henday this place is going to be my go-to when I want a delicious treat or need to grab something to bring to my boyfriends parents. Very easy to find. Great parking. Never too too busy. I think place is a real gem. Large assortment of baked goods ranging from sweets to cookies, to pastry to cake there's something for everyone. I love how their goods are not all just sugar wrapped in sugar. They have a lovely hot menu and coffee selection I'll have to go back and try sometime. The man working The counter was quiet but I didn't mind as I had to take quiet a long time to decide. The walnut roll was a crowd pleaser and easily split 4 ways. The sausage roll was good but not mind-blowing. The potato bacon roll was a great breakfast treat. The honey cake was mild and moist. Whereas the Kiev cake was crumbly and sweet - totally disintegrated upon cutting. Not sure that's normal but the flavor profile was to my taste. All in all worth it! read more

What a great place! I consider myself a harsh critic of Ukrainian food. My mother-in law is from Ukraine and she is a fantastic cook. Her Napoleon cake is one of my favorites but I have to save that I love the one from Malina Ukrainian Bakery just as much! On top of that, their honey cake is out of this world. Not all honey cake is created equal and this is the best you'll find in the city. Located in Cameron Heights, these guys have great hours - Open Tuesday-Friday until 8pm (closed on Monday). They're also available on Uber Eats! In addition to baked goods they also sell borscht, perogies and cabbage rolls.I haven't tried these but I expect them to be great. Had it delivered via uber eats. Some good stuff, some not so good. The perogies were delicate and beautifully made but the filling was only potato and lacked seasoning. First time I ever had to salt a perogy (even with bacon on it). The sausage was a good size and grilled to perfection. The coleslaw was likely my favourite thing in the combo platter. The cabbage roll was just ok...I was expecting a sour cabbage roll. (The ones covered in tomato sauce will always be German in my mind). But it was fine. The neuleshnky were also very large and just ok. Considering they are usually cooked in cream and dill, these seemed lacking. Lastly, all the baked goods were exceptional. I grew up in a Ukrainian community, so I was very excited to learn that Edmonton was getting it's very own Ukrainian bakery. I've tried a few different items, including cake and savory buns, and they are all very delish and fresh. My fave is the potato dill pyrizhki. The location is super convenient to get to from anywhere in the city as it's just off the Anthony Henday on Cameron Heights drive. No matter where you live, I assure you it will be worth the drive. But I do see they are selling out, so definitely go early if you're trekking from across the city. There is indoor and out door seating, or take your treat for a walk towards the ravine! This is not a bakery in the sense of a place to buy bread because they don't sell bread. It's a great place to buy desserts and there are tables so it might be a fine stop for a coffee and a treat. We ordered take out so I didn't try any of the coffees that were up on the menu board. We just let our eyes battle it out with our consciences and pointed at things that looked and sounded good. The first treat I tried was the Gorishki cookies which are shaped like a walnut and filled with a delicious walnut cream. They are small so you can have two or three; go ahead, you know that you deserve it. Six of the Gorishki cookies cost $10.50. I also ordered the Shredded Pie for $4.50. I liked that it was not too sweet. I often say, and firmly believe, that any baker can make a really sweet dessert but only a great baker can make a dessert that's still tastie without being packed with surger. I'll have to come back to dine in and sample the coffee . Until then I certainly can recommend Malina Ukrainian Bakery as a welcomed addition to the YEG food scene. read more

I initially had a selection of bakery items delivered to my home when this bakery first opened. I really liked the sauerkraut stuffed bun and the honey cake so when it was my turn at work to bring in the monthly birthday cake, I contacted this bakery. The honey cake was beautifully decorated with fresh fruit and pecans. It was such a hit at work with comments like, "that cake went fast", and "when it is my turn next month, I better not bring in a cake from (grocery store)". During my second trip to his bakery I got a pastry with raisins and as I ate it with my eyes closed it took me back to Ukraine. That is such a wonderful experience. read more

What a wonderful little bakery! We ventured from the north side of the city to come show some local love, and boy they did not disappoint! Easy accessible location from the henday, with a beautiful clean interior. My husband opted for a hazelnut latte which was absolutely delicious, and the espresso I had was the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. We tried the sausage in a bun as well as the pyrizhki with chicken & mushroom. Sooo tasty! We also grabbed some frozen cabbage rolls, cottage & dill nalysnyky, and of course, perogies. Awesome little cafe in Cameron Heights. A little sad that we didn't buy the house we looked at a few years ago.
