When searching for bakeries to try this hidden gem showed up on Google Mapa. Located literally hidden in the garden centre it was a little hard to find but I did get to take a very cool flat escalator. I forgot how many cool nich-nacks were in this store so walking through it to find a bakery was a blast. A large variety of goodies with clearly marked flavors and prices was nice to see. I ended up with a mint choc chip meringue and a caramel square. The meringue was large and impressive looking. Definitely a looker but I wish the flavor was stronger and that there were Choc chips throughout and not just on-top. It was melting your mouth as expected. The caramel square was Amazing. Soft definitely homemade caramel on-top a soft cookie crust. The proportion of cookie to caramel was spot on. I would definitely buy the Carmel on its own if that becomes an option! Definitely a great spot to kill some time or look for unique trinkets and grab a tasty snack. read more

The coffee is quite bitter here. Although a plain cup is pretty decently priced for less than $3. This place is a decent stop for some refreshments before or after a visit at the zoo. Ice cold drinks. Hot coffee. Cakes and sandwiches. Pretty much everything to snack on if you forgot to pack or prepare for your visit to the zoo. I ussually come in for the air conditioning bc edmonton summer dry heat can get to you if you dont have air conditioning. The place is big and bright. Great for people watching, it was amusing watching the kids play at the fountain from here. There is an outdoor patio as well. Overall its nice to have here. Conveinent. But the coffee is made poorly and its way way way too bitter. But at least now the zoo has a decent place to get a drink or snack in a jiffy. Bonus points: this place serves beer and wine. read more

Not cool. I like the music and the seating. In warmer months, you can sit outside. There is plenty to read and it's clean and spacious. I like it better than chains like Starbucks. First impression of this place is cosy and homely. Loads of seating by fireplaces, corner sofas and nice cast iron details on the windows. I bet this place looks super cute at Christmas time. I didn't realize they don't have wifi which was inconvenient for me as I wanted to work while I was there. The service seemed a bit off too. I had to ask the servers too many questions including heir loyalty card which is answering a different question each day. When I went he question was about GOT so that's what sucked me in. No one offered any info... it seemed a bit odd. I just wanted coffee and a breakfast scrambler. My coffee was sitting there for ages because they never shouted my name until the food was ready. The scrambler was good but it was meant to have chorizo in it and I didn't taste it at all, so I think they gave me the wrong one. Three stars for good food, coffee and setting. read more

I had originally given Wild Earth 4 stars because I enjoy the atmosphere of the cafe, the selection of loose teas, their homemade soups, and delicious baked bread. Recently I have had some disappointing experiences at this location. The cashiers seem to be uninterested in taking orders/helping customers. I have had my drink order forgotten twice the last two times I was there (just ordered brewed coffee to go). After trying vainly to get the attention of a barista, I finally managed to ask if my drink had been skipped and was given a look that could be described as "So, what?". I would also add that the sugar-free muffins near the front of the till are often put on display while still frozen inside. I bought one to go, and was let down when I found it to still be an ice chunk. A bakery serving frozen pastries? Come on guys, you used to have this place down to a tee, and now it feels like it's heading down. read more

Wild earth is more then a bakery, more then a cafe, more then a quaint environment. It is a fairy tail of delectable goods and darling spots to be inspired in life again or to reconnect with friends and family. This adorable South side spot is the bar to which I measure all other cafes, bakery/coffee houses. I can't even put into words what it is, there is just this air about Wild Earth that makes me happy to be alive, to be me, to live where I live. It takes me away and brings me home all at the same time. The staff are so wonderful and make me laugh. The drinks are lovely, the food good but we all know why we go... The insane, delicious confections! From cookies to squares, tarts to cakes and everything in between. I love it all! This is one of my favorite bakeries in Edmonton. It is nice, cozy and customer service is great. I've tried their strawberry rhubarb and creme brûlée tarts ($3 ea.) and they're fantastic. Also, if you order some chocolate milk ($2.50), they will make it for you and you will get it in a nice mason jar. I've also tried their chorizo scramble and iced coffee, which are pretty descent if you ask me. I'll definitely be back to try more of their baked goods. I've heard their raspberry white chocolate scone is fantastic so that'll be next on my list. read more

We recently moved, and I was very fondly attached to a family owned cafe in my old neighborhood. Wild Earth is now my closest cafe, so I went in the other day to scope it out. First of all, it's pretty big- which means lots of seating and you're probably more likely to get a table. Windows everywhere, lots of natural light. Gotta love that. The staff member who helped me was new at his job, and was enthusiastic, friendly, and immensely helpful. I wanted a tea and he knew everything about all their available tea. My jasmine tea ended up being super delicious. They also have a huge spread of bakery treats!! I didn't try anything this visit, but next time I plan to pull up at a table with a coffee and one of those amazing looking treats. Looking forward to this being my new haunt! read more

I've been going to Wild Earth for probably 3+ years now. Like Gord L., I'm not a coffee-drinker, so I don't go there for that. However, I'm told (by reliable sources), that their coffee is quite good. The ambiance of this large coffee shop is wonderful. Lots of comfy seating, nooks and crannies make it quite a nice spot for a chat or a quick bite. To me, however, Wild Earth is more a bakery than a coffee shop. I can't say as I've tried everything there, but I've tried a good chunk. As others have said, their wraps, sandwiches and salads are quite good. But it's their baking that sets them apart. My perennial favourites are the Raspberry-White Chocolate scones and their cinnamon buns. I love their cinnamon buns and they seem to have something for everybody. Whole wheat or white dough, raisins or not. The dough is wonderfully flavored and the buns themselves have a great, up-front cinnamon flavour. They way they bake them turns some of the cinnamon, raisin, butter and sugar mixture into a toffee like consistency. Love it. The only knock I have on Wild Earth is the service. Sometimes I find the staff to be a little short or disinterested. This could be a factor of being understaffed or just tired. Not sure.... Overall, though, if you're looking for a nice place to have a quick snack, coffee or chat, this is one of the best in Edmonton! Check it out! read more

I enjoyed a blueberry tart and lavender tea from this little cafe. Most of the baked goods were sold out when I got there. They should top up on their selection throughout the day. There was a good selection of loose tea leaves to choose from as well. My lavender tea was aromatic and light tasting. The cashier was new. She made multiple transaction mistakes. I still enjoy the food at Wild Earth, but they're starting to drive me insane because of one thing: the lack of prices! Why on Earth would you have a bunch of products for sale without prices?! Want to know how much that square is? Either buy it, or ask an employee. How much is the chocolate brownie beside the til? I had to ask (and it's $5!!). Maybe they don't put prices on things because it'll scare away customers. Please, Wild Earth, put prices on the things you sell! I'm feeling a little nostalgic as I write this post since we don't live in Edmonton or St. Albert anymore. But, all our happy birthdays were celebrated with a delicious and beautifully catered GLUTEN FREE cake. However, if you are super allergic to wheat, this is not the place for you. I have a mild wheat sensitivity and, in general don't eat bread, etc. made with wheat flour. They can't guarantee that the cake is free of wheat since their facility primarily bakes standard cakes. What I do love about this place is the cozy, wood-burning fireplace at this location. When we moved to St. Albert, we had our cakes ordered here and delivered to that location. We were excited when another one opened at the zoo (a place we frequented often with our little girls). However, the food itself or lack there of at the time left us a little dismayed. Almost prohibitively expensive, though I guess perception is key. If you, unlike me, decided to embrace the responsibilities of adulthood as quickly as possible and got a well-paying job in your early 20s, ten dollars for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake is totally reasonable. As for me, I can make better baked goods, sandwiches, and salads at home, and have a hell of a lot more fun doing it on my own. Though past visits have been costlier, I came in at just under $5.50 for a cup of coffee and a lemon meringue tart yesterday afternoon. The tart was okay, but meringue isn't supposed to be chewy, and the crust was similarly textured--the effects of refrigeration, perhaps? The tart was less than $3, so I had no reason to be too pissy, but my friend paid $7 for the driest slice of carrot cake I've ever tasted. Yesterday's (Sunday) clientele at 4:30 in the afternoon was a weird mix of seniors, young families, and scene kids. We had to bus our own table before sitting down because the previous occupants hadn't done so, and neither had the staff. In sum, a bit too pricey for the quality of food. Your money likely is better spent at other fancy bakeries around town. I will, however, say only excellent things about their chili varieties, which are delicious--and generally the reason I come here. read more

It's not how I remembered it. Stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon to pick up a simple 16oz mocha. Aside from the fact that my order interaction felt robotic, my mocha was forgotten during a crazy rush of three people! The whipping cream was sloppily plopped on top. And the temperature was so hot I almost burned my mouth. For $5.25 the least I can ask for is a decent temperature, no? I usually treat myself to nice coffee once a week which makes me happy. However, I didn't enjoy my experience this time. :( It seems like there is so much less energy here now. More than half of the space on the pastry window was empty. I don't like coffee and I generally don't like cafes. So for me to like a place like this says something. My girlfriend loves to come here, so I end up going more often than I would just by myself, but it's still pretty good! As I said, I don't really like coffee, so I can't tell you about that. What I CAN tell you about is the service- everyone who works there seems friendly and attentive. The pastries tend to be hit-and-miss. Some of them are DELICIOUS, like eat 10 of them in a row delicious. Some pastries are crusty and don't really taste like anything... The trick is that they all LOOK good. So you can't judge the food here by how it looks, at least not in my experience. For example, they have this raspberry jam and white chocolate cup thing (my list of words for baked goods ends at 'bread', so bear with me here...) that's ultra-yum-licious, but they also have some tasty looking banana bread that ends up being something akin to eating banana-flavoured crumbly sandstone with nuts in it. So you gotta experiment a bit. The hot chocolate /w vanilla and chili is what I get all winter, and it's a failsafe recipe for instant warmth and tastiness. There are a couple complaints about this place though: First, the way they've set up the counter is.. interesting. follow the (not-so-visible) signs and you'll find where you need to go Second, there are no plug-ins anywhere. I suspect this is on purpose, so they don't get people parking themselves somewhere for hours on end. Last, it's hard to tell how much you're going to be paying for something. Price tags are hard to find! Overall, this place ain't bad, as long as you already know what to get, how much it is, and where to line up to pay. read more

Looking for a place to grab a hot drink and treat, we opted to try Wild Earth Bakery. I had a strawberry rhubarb tart which was sweet and tasty and a loose leaf white tea which I would order again. Wild Earth has a pretty large tea selection if you like a lot of choice. My friend ordered a macchiato and slice of London Fog cake. The cake was a big disappointment. It was dry and the icing far too thick with a greasy taste to it (likely made with shortening). The cafe has a cute, cozy vibe with different seating options (tables, bar seating & lounge chairs). We opted to sit outside because if that's a possibility in April, you don't pass it up. :) They had a nice little seating area on the south sidewalk and the tables and chairs were comfortable (which isn't always true of cafe furniture). There is also an expectation you will bring in your dishes and put them in a dish bin. I don't have a problem with picking up after myself. This place is cute! I've driven past it so many times living in Edmonton but never actually gone inside. Today my Aunt suggested it so we decided to go. They have a lot of food and pastries, and of course coffee. I decided to try the roast beef sandwhich and the chai latte. Both were actually way better than I was expecting! My aunt had a toasted egg on an english muffin and she said it was really good. It is nice that they have a good selection of vegetarian options, which is good because my Aunt is a vegetarian. I was in the neighborhood this morning and finally had a chance to step into the Wild Earth Bakery under the pretext of satiating my morning caffeine craving. But once I laid eyes on the cooler filled with delicate tarts and cakes, I knew I'd be leaving with more than just a small dark roast with cream and honey. Cinnamon buns, scones, and muffins vied for attention in baskets on the counter, but I went for the almond croissant and was transported to instant heaven. It was that rare perfect combo of moist and flaky (meaning the layers peeled off beautifully - is there a word for that?), with a light sugary glaze on top to secure the sliced almonds in place. I followed this pure delight up with an even tastier treat - a tart. Pumpkin caught my eye, but creme brulee couldn't be passed up. My first contact with my favourite dessert in tart form was as dreamy as could be imagined - the thick pastry shell was almost creamy, and it was moderately filled with an even creamier custard-style concoction, requisitely charred slightly on top. Had I any inkling that Wild Earth Bakery was such an absolute delight I would've been frequenting it long ago. As it stands, I'll be back to claim that pumpkin tart shortly. read more

I've always loved the food, desserts, and the coffee here. I also appreciate the fair trade aspect and the fact that Wild Earth is a good employer, from what I hear. My complaint comes from the lack of wi-fi - either the owners are such hippies that they're wearing tin foil hats (and probably don't vaccinate) or they're too cheap to pay for it. In my mind, coffee = productivity, and I would get so much work done here (especially late Friday nights) if they would just provide that one service to their customers. The loss of two stars is due to the stern-faced, you are in trouble for something and you don't know why, cashiers at this cafe and bakery in old Strathcona. If it wasn't for the vegetarian options and the excellent coffee I don't think I would come back here on a weekly basis, just based on the front of house service. However, when I've ordered cakes in the past and spoke to the bakers or when chatting to the baristas they have always been cheery and helpful. It's almost as if they have it backwards; lovely friendly people hidden in the back and the crabby "I hate my job" staff doing the ordering. I would give you lots of examples but I get shaky and clenched fisted just thinking about today's episode alone, where I was made to feel stupid more then once in a 60 second time frame. The gluten free brownies are unbelievably moist and delicious though, and the veggie wrap is tasty. My son , who is like a little foodie but only when it comes to banana bread and has tried every place in town, thinks wild earth's banana bread is too dry and doesn't taste like bananas. He's 3 but he knows what he's talking about on this topic! So while the decor is warm here and full of charm and wood furniture, the cashiers are wooden and charmless(For the most part, but occasuonally we've had a friendly person up front) . The other thing I should mention are the made to order cakes! We ordered one for my sons birthday online and then spoke to a baker who was exceptionally lovely and accommodating! Let me preface this by saying, I have worked in customer service for my entire adult life and I was very dissapointed with the cashier. After making my order, I noticed a sign saying that they now offer coconut milk. I politely asked the cashier if I could change the latte to one with coconut milk. She rolled her eyes and sighed.....oh I'm sorry, did pressing that one button really put you out that badly? Let's chalk this up to a bad day, perhaps. WHY HAVE I NEVER VISITED THIS PLACE BEFORE! This amazing cafe/bakery is in my hood. Last night, my PR gang suggested coffee at Wild Earth. I arrived early to get some reading time in. As soon as I entered I was blown away. This cafe is huge first of all. Secondly, it has this small mountain community feel to it. I felt like I was in Jasper or Banff. I ordered a double chai soy latte. It was amazing. I then waited for my friends to arrive before I ordered a little something something to nibble on! The choices were vast! There was lines of jars with yummy cookies. There were tortes, butter cups and even puddings in small jars that you could take home. There is of course a plethora of loaves that you can take home from bread to zucchini, chocolate chip, pecan loaf. If you want something more to fill your tummy there is soup and sandwiches as well! I opted for the peanut butter chocolate cookie. It was glorious! The seating is vast. There is even prepared baking and cooking that you can take home and finish it off yourself: soups, cookies, cinnamon buns. I highly recommend this cafe for breakfast, lunch, dinner, a place to grab a coffee or tea and chat or to pick up some bread for the week. I left with a beautiful loaf of banana walnut bread! YUM! Wild Earth Cafe and Bakery is a Millcreek institution. However, you don't have to live in Millcreek to enjoy it. Situated on 99th Street and easily accessible by bus it's centrally located between Whyte, downtown and the always wonderful Saskatchewan Drive. I particularly enjoy the Bacon Sunrise sandwiches but you'd be hard-pressed to find something that wasn't extremely agreeable. They have a massive selection of extremely delicious baked goods. I'm a fan of the carrot cake but you could come here every day never exhaust their menu. I don't drink the stuff but I'm told the coffee is delicious. They also have compostable, bio-degradable to-go packaging, something that always score a few brownie points from me. They've just undergone a recent renovation which has added a lot more seat space space both and room for the kitcken/bakery as well. I'm not the biggest fan of the decor, it feels very showhomey, but this is my go-to spot for warm drinks within walking distance of my house. If you're close by, driving by or biking by you should probably check it out. read more

My wife and I walked in this afternoon for a late afternoon snack. Nice selection of interesting sodas in the cooler and we each had a side salad. She had a Greek salad, and I had the Vegan bean salad. Both were nice servings for the Small and it was very pleasant to eat outside and around the corner from the very busy 99 Street. Comfortable looking place, the washrooms were downstairs and everything was interesting and clean. Wild Earth Bakery and Cafe on 99St is an awesome little bakery and coffee shop. They have some great seating inside and during the warmer months some outside spots as well. I have tried many of the muffins, croissants, bread and non-coffee drinks (sorry can't comment on the coffee as I don't drink it) and have always been impressed with their products. You can buy fresh loaves of bread here and they have always been fantastic! They also have vegetarian and gluten free options if you need that. At the front till they usually have a basket of dogs treats as well that you can pick up for your furry friends. If you are on 99 St. and want to stop for littler food or coffee break this is a great choice! read more

Now, after reading this review, you can't say I didn't warn you when I tell you that it might be awfully tricky to find a seat here on a Saturday morning. Or Saturday afternoon. Or anytime on a Sunday, at all. Busy busy busy! My muffin was fresh and delicious and full of berries. My coffee was fresh and hot and just what I needed! We snagged a seat the bar by the window, luckily. Even though the joint was hopping, it never felt too loud, or like we couldn't have a conversation. I really like that about this place! When I really feel like splurging, I'll try one of their infamous cinnamon buns. I have never been so uncomfortable in an establishment before. I had the vegan roll, it was good, but midway I found a piece of chicken it it. The place is kind of a hybrid between a bakery and a cafe and there are lots of gluten free options which I think is great. My drink was delicious once I stirred it, though i'm not a fan of their whip cream. My biscotti was as hard as a rock... I couldn't bite it unless I put it in my coffee for a good minute or two. I came here on a Saturday evening with couple of friends, we all had a good time. The barista was friendly and helpful. I ordered a white hot chocolate and it was delicious. The layout is really nice, I love the big windows and the view. If you are looking for a place were you can meet with friends, enjoy a cup of coffee and relax this is your place, but I'm talking about a day when the zoo is not in its max capacity, that I'm sure is another story. read more
