Located right in Chinatown, the Italian bakery is a new but small supermarket. This place has a variety of must-tries from a convenient cafe and a large bakery. I tried their verdura pizza. The service at the cafe was good and courteous. The pizza was decent with fresh ingredients. The crust for the pizza wasn't the greatest but for 8 bucks totally worth it. read more

Not a huge place but decent and full of European goods, deli meats, cheese, pasta and amazingly delicious bakery items amongst others. I just could not leave the store without a dozen donuts even though i was eyeing everything else that they had in the bakery display cases. The freshly baked donuts are very light and fluffy; you can have more than one without feeling guilty as they are not heavy; the chocolate is the real deal not some sort of a fondant or sugary imitation. The maple glazed donuts, the skor, the almond chocolate ones are also to die for. The people working there are very pleasant, helpful and attentive. It is another place i will be shopping at frequently. Next time i will get there early enough to enjoy a late, a cappuccino and perhaps have lunch as well. The prices are decent and they are open until 7pm. read more

Been yearning to try out Italian Bakery's sandwiches for a while now. Unfortunately they're closed on Sundays which is usually when I am free to head to Chinatown for some eats. Well finally I was able to go on a weekday for lunch. I ordered a montreal smoked turkey with dill havarti sandwich, and my friend got a pastrami with smoked gouda. They freshly slice your meats and cheese, and top it off with your choice of banana peppers, mustard, veggie puree, and mustard. You can choose to go with the works if you so wish. Clean, simple, honest goodness, for only $2.50 a sandwich (which includes tax). Be sure to visit this local diamond in the rough for an excellently priced and tasty bite. read more

Italian Bakery - Their truck - Bakeries Near Me - Edmonton, Alberta

I was walking by and it was perfect as I need bread to go with that evening's dinner. It wasn't busy with one person seated at a table enjoying a paper and mid afternoon snack. I looked around the store but really just wanted my bread. But once I started looking at all the appetizing sweets and desserts in the display, I knew I would be getting dessert too! I took a number from the machine and waited to be helped. The couple behind the counter seemed to be very friendly but not inappropriate. The man helped another customer and the woman asked how she could help. Although there wasn't a high quantity of breads, they did have French bread and she sliced it for me. It was a lot of bread for a little bit of money! But it was sliced thinly and it was perfect to dip with oils or put butter on and went well with our evening pasta meal. For dessert, I got a (I think mocha) cannoli for my husband but I decided my carb overload would be sufficient. For both items, I paid $4 and change and went happily along my way. Sometimes I'm in the area for meetings so would stop by again for bread or a sweet treat! read more

Most amazing donuts and desserts ! The pizza bread is also amazing. I love the staff they are so friendly

My first time at this Italian bakery located in Chinatown and I am impressed. Its two blocks from my place, wanted to try from long time, so got a chance today. Had a sun dried tomatoes roasted chicken sandwich with jalapeño havarti cheese. It was good and is only $3. They have a lot of Italian sweets, and believe me they are really yummy. Rum balls are to die for. I also tried cinnamon/rasin buns, biscotti and pie slices. Everything here is fresh and flavorful. Plus staff is polite and helpful and they also have a parking lot. I am defiantly going back. read more

Italian Bakery - Rum balls, cinnamon rolls, biscotti, blueberry and apple pie - Bakeries Near Me - Edmonton, Alberta

Delicious pastries for delicious prices. Cannoli are $2, and the amazing rum balls are only 60 cents each. They have many other fabulous looking treats and cakes that I have yet to try, but trust me, I will. Croissants are really cheap and huge! for only 65 cents. They have a small grocery area but I just go to Spinelli's for that, although I suppose if I needed to grab something quickly and I were already there it would be convenient. They have a take-a-number system - sometimes you don't have to wait long, but most times there is a wait involved. It can get a little awkward in the small space if there are a lot of people waiting. The staff are usually quite good, though. Of course they have a variety of trays that you can pre-order (at least a day in advance) of different meats and cheeses. I, and my family, have ordered many trays from the Italian Bakery over the years and they've always been great. I've yet to order anything to stay in and sit at the small tables by the window, but it's on my list. I think it would be perfect for a sunny, lazy afternoon. read more

This oddly located Italian Bakery/Deli/Grocery/Coffee shop is right in the heart of our Chinatown but it could be anywhere and will always have a following. This place is a zoo, with only 3-4 small tables, a poorly laid out retail area and a huge counter taking up most of the establishment. At lunch hour or weekend afternoons you will be waiting a while, but when all is said and done it is worth it. Freshly baked desserts, breads and numerous other treats are all worth trying. Deli has some of the more interesting meats and cheeses, and serves incredible sandwiches where you can pick anything they have behind the counter on a fresh bun. Just can't go wrong especially when the largest sandwich which can feed 2 is $5 including tax. It is a family affair and after 3 years I still see the same faces behind the counter who are always nice. read more

The plan was to stop in and pick up some cannoli to take to a friend's house. Ah, but there's no just stopping into this place to run and and grab some cannoli. It's always crowded, which is a sign that their food is outstanding, but it also means that you must wait. So, we took a number and waited. But in the waiting I spied several other mouthwatering treats. The marzipan bars looked divine. And I recalled how fabulous the tiramisu was the last time I was in there. Oh, and then I saw the deli and what fabulous cheeses they had on special. My partner, wandering around the store, saw that they had pastas on sale. And we remembered that we are low on olive oil. When we left, we had much more than the four cannoli we intended to buy. That's the problem with the Italian Bakery; it's so good, I always end up leaving with more than I intended to purchase. I just don't have the willpower to say "no" to this place. read more

The Italian Bakery is another one of the gems of Edmonton's central core. Located in, of all places, Chinatown, the Italian Bakery features freshly-baked, mouth-watering breads and pastries. I had my first canoli here, and I have kept coming back for more. The Italian Bakery also sells fresh deli sandwiches that has people lining up. There are very few tables, so you're lucky if you manage to grab one to enjoy a cup of coffee with your sandwich or pastry. Take a number, and get your goodies to go. You'll be back. read more

Sticking out in Chinatown like a green hat with an orange braille, the Italian Bakery has a plethora of Italian patisseries and other baked goods. I personally enjoy their cannolis. Delicious and very reasonably priced at two dollars a piece, it's hard to go wrong with them. Though it can be challenging during your first visit to find the "now serving" ticket dispenser (possibly just me), the service could be quicker and you can almost never find a table to sit down and enjoy a cannoli, it's a cool market to satisfy your Italian food needs. read more

I first tried the Italian Bakery over five years ago with a bunch of coworkers for sandwiches. Now that I'm back in the area I frequent this place quite a bit. Kaiser sandwiches (size small) with your choice of meat and cheese for 3 dollars, and a large (which is HUGE) Two meats and one cheese for $6.00. I love the variety of meats they offer, from Mortadella to Prosciutto, to different types of ham, turkey and chicken. You can add banana peppers, pickles or bruschetta to the sandwich, though it'd be a little better to add on a few other veggies. That's really my only beef. I'm not much of a sweets fan so I'll let you read the other reviews for the baked goods, though the few times I've had their desserts at pot lucks/someone brings to the office they've been delicious. It's worth the wait in line if you're in the mood for a sandwich, though take it to go, there are only a few tables to eat at, and it's a little crammed. read more

Good desserts and coffee in the same place are hard to get in this city. This spot tries to fill in this gap and succeeds somewhat. I usually came here to get my cappuccino and dessert fix when I got tired of going to the chain cafes. They do a traditional Italian style drink i.e. no latte art or over sized cup just a nice shot of espresso topped with milk foam. I would give it 2.5 star for what it is. Now for the desserts things improve somewhat they have lot of baked items like cream horns (decent), Giant cookies (hit & miss) , canolis (decent) and other baked goods. You do get a discount if you buy it by the dozen and you can mix and match. The space is very tight but I have always managed to find a table here. The other part of this place is more of grocery store with lots of variety of Italian cooking items. There is also a cold cut counter but I never tried any of the things here. Apparently they make a good sandwich here which I guess I will try on my next trip to this city. All said an done a decent option if you are in the area and want to stay away from chain cafes. read more

Rum Balls are cheap and a nice treat. To me, that is the only good item in the store. They need to use more real products in their pastries/baked goods. Their fruit pies/apple pies have some kind of gooey, gammy artificial apple filling that is sweet but pretty disgusting tasting. They only sell for a couple dollars. They need to use more more real fruit/ingredients. The pie I bought from Save-On-Foods was far superior in taste. Some of the ingredients they use in their baked goods are VERY sketchy. You can taste the difference between the real stuff vs. the fake stuff, and I'm afraid Italian Bakery uses a LOT of the latter. Which partly explains the low prices. When prices of pies/cakes are less than that at Save-On-Foods and other retail stores, this points to the true quality of Italian Bakery's products. Other than the rum balls, I would rather get my baked goods elsewhere, as the quality here at Italian Bakery are downright average at best. read more

Best value in Edmonton for a sandwich. $3.00 and you get any meat of your choice with a wide selection of interesting cheeses on white or whole wheat. Today I had rosemary ham, sun dried tomato havarti, with mustard, mayo, veggie spread, and peppers on white. I don't think that I have ever had the same sandwich twice and am never disappointed. With the inexpensive sandwich you can feel good about a $1.00 treat, tart, donut or splurge on a cream filled canoli. The only challenge can be the long line ups at lunch when they're understaffed. Otherwise, one of my favourite lunch time spots for a fresh meal. I'll be back again and again. read more

Got a craving for a sammich? Or maybe need something sweet to please your tummy? You have to come here. Their "build your own" sandwiches is fantastic. They have a huge variety of meats and cheeses to choose from and 3 sizes of buns. Don't forget to get the veggie spread, mayo and peppers sprinkled on, it brings your sandwich to life. Now while your sandwich is being built, stroll over to the left and pick out a few pastries to wash it down with. They have an amazing selection of goodies that are pleasant to the stomach but not so for the waste line, but who cares! It's the Italian-f-ing-Bakery!!! You come here to eat and eat well. So pick yourself a cannoli or a square. Hell, take one of each! While you're there don't forget to stock up on grocery items. They have an amazing selection of olive oils and other italian items. Your hipster side will thank you. Visit here often, it's worth the lineups and the wait times. Just DON'T FORGET to get a ticket. The ticket dispenser is hiding on a shelf just behind you when you are at the cashier. read more

At an old job, I had this one co-worker who would occasionally come into the office with 2 dozen donuts from the Italian Bakery, and gosh were those the days. Since leaving that job, I've had to hunt down the Italian Bakery and buy my own donuts. Sad, but true. But, boy is it worth it to come here! Seriously the best donuts in town - and I'm not the only one that thinks so since they're always pretty low on stock when I come in. And at 70 cents a donut, they sure have Timmy's beat for value (and they're made in house!) I honestly haven't tried another thing here, but it is a bit of a tiny grocery store... they have lots of pasta, and some olive oils and sauces, etc. I also noticed some fresh (or frozen?) pizza dough in a cooler next to the door for $1.50... will need to remember that next time I want to make pizza. The only drawback of the Italian Bakery is how hard it is to get to and find parking. Because of where I live I have to transverse the arena area disaster and it takes like 20 minutes to drive there... They do have a little parking lot next to the building, but it fills up quickly! read more

This is the most glorious place in all of Christendom. They offer magical halos of condensed happiness (in the form of doughnuts) The deli counter sandwiches are delicious, and made-to-order quickly, for a great price. The line can be long during the lunch rush, but worth the wait (or call ahead!) They have also started having pre-made small sandwiches (both hot and not) for $3.50 on the counter for a quick grab-n-go snack. Plus they have all the other italian market goodies. read more

I love coming here. The sandwiches are huge and very filling. Anytime I want to make the crew at work happy I pick up a box of donuts. read more

Italian Bakery - These donuts are amazing. I ate 3 of these. - Bakeries Near Me - Edmonton, Alberta

They sell all kinds of things here, but despite my best intentions, I rarely get past the cannoli and the rum balls. Looking for something to bring to a gathering, and want to maximize deliciousness per dollar? The rum balls here are it. There's parking in the back, and make sure you leave a little extra time because you might have to wait a bit if it is busy. read more

Meh, thought I would take a drive to Italian Bakery heard some good reviews about the place. Finally, ended up driving to only be surrounded by a over populated parking lot. Went inside and was greeted by ground crew where he politely told me that there was no more Italian Sandwiches where another person also was hungry and waiting. Ended up leaving the place. 2/5 read more

Worth the hype. A go to in Edmonton. The classic sandwiches are amazing, fresh bread, great assortment of deli meats and cheeses make for the best sandwich in town. Then the desserts. A VAST array of amazing desserts and items to take home. The cookies are 10. Highly recommend read more

Went to this loactation after hearing about the tirimisu cake. Wanted to pick one up for my dads birthday the next day. I patiently waited in line to inquire about a cake. The man looked at me said.."do you see any cake?", and then yelled "next". I wont go back no matter what anyone says about the quality of their products. Treating people with respect is part of a good buisness plan. I was polite, minded my turn though it was busy all to ask a question only to be treated like I'm some sort of idiot. Beware when going here, especially if you arent sure if they have what your looking for. I suggest never having to ask a question at this particular establishment if you'd like to be treated kindly. Go to the Italian bakery on 118 instead, they are much nicer and happy to answer your questions. read more

Something that costs $0.60 has never changed my life. Then I experienced the rum balls from Italian Bakery. Amazing.

Love this place! Nothing beats a fresh Italian sandwich, your choice of meat, cheese and bread from a large selection and for under $5! Hands down the best donuts super fresh you will not be able to eat another Tim's (Tim's I love you) and not compare it to Italian bakery. My favorite is the chocolate glazed. I have tried the cheesecake, tiramisu and rum balls and found them surprisingly disappointing for an Italian bakery but there is no shortage of other yummy treats. Can be very busy over lunch and will sell out of items by midday, I like to sneak in first thing in the morning. read more

This place is great! I often stop off, on my way home to grab a little dessert for my family. In particular, the Marzipan is AMAZING and my mom, who lives in southern Alberta begs me to bring her some when I go see her. I often buy essentials such as lunch meats, rolls, breads and pre-made pizza crust; all of which are great. The only problem I run into is that sometimes they have sold out of what I wanted. I don't mind that too much though, since I can usually find an alternative. I highly suggest stopping at the Italian Bakery to buy your baked goods! You'll never go back to eating large-chain-grocery-store bread! read more

This is their best location. Fresh, fantastic, and great staff. Expect a line-up but it goes fast because it's so darn good.

I like their baked goods. Some were ok for the price but I can live without them.

More real dairy fillings need to be used in their sweets. I tried something called a "hockey puck" from there and it appeared to be filled with some kind of faux cream edible oil product. Not for me, muchachos. read more

This is the absolute worst place I have ever been to in my life!!! I would never ever recommend it to anyone. I went there with my family to get a few birthday treats and we decided to grab a seat and eat our treats at the store. First of all my apple dessert that I had was frozen so it wasn't made fresh at all. I could barely bite through it. The absolute WORST thing was that there was a fingernail in my dessert!!!!!!!! I couldn't have been more disgusted. I wish I would have taken a picture of it to tell people to stay clear of this place, but I was too busy getting sick to even think of taking a picture of it. We showed it to one of the ladies that works there and she was so shocked she didn't know what to do. There was no refund for the treats I had bought either. If you're thinking of going here please rethink your decision unless you want the possibility of finding a fingernail in your food. read more
