Just a shot of the area separating seating from the kitchen.

I had a huge craving for latkes last Sunday and we got out of church early so, I thought we might have beaten the after church rush from the Moravian church nearby. We easily found parking nearby and voila, a table inside. I thought I had ordered the latkes with an egg on top- I was really hungry but was disappointed that the waiter had misconstrued my order and put a side potato latke together with a side egg over easy. . It was nobody's fault really, and quite cheap, but when I got home, I put an egg and two potatoes in the electric vegetable chopper with some salt and pepper and whipped up my own potato pancakes. It tasted just as good and finally satiated my craving. Oh well. Lesson learned.

It was actually in July, 2018. I found this place by accident and it was great. Nothing fancy, just simple and effective. The staff was really nice and the food was good too.

TL;DR: a great setting for a hot beverage or two coupled with conversation. I really enjoyed the design of the place as a whole and liked the service which was provided. My time here was quick; my friends and I stopped by to order a few caffeinated delights before settling into the music venue located in the basement. It was quite loud but not obnoxiously so. You can still have a good conversation. The seating options were great and I really liked the decor; it was industrial yet modern and I adored the lighting and the huge windows which surrounded the interior. In addition, the panel graphic behind the front counter was particularly beautiful. I really wished we had sat in the booth seats but they were all filled! The service was friendly and really made you feel comfortable. They definitely went above and beyond in terms of making their guests feel right at home. I really wish that I tried their food because from what I've read it is pretty good! But sadly, I only ordered beverages. I tried the Mochaccino and the Vanilla Latte, they were both great.

I used to live accross the bridge from this Cafe, and have visited it quiet frequently for a java to take on a walk in the Millcreek Ravine, as it is right next to the trail head; this place makes a fantastic dirty chai! That being said, I have had a meal here a few times, and have always enjoyed. They have a fair amount of choices available for people that need gluten free, or lactose free options, and the food is always so full of flavor. From my experiences, the staff is always happy to serve, and willing to modify orders if requested. The restaurant dining area and washrooms are clean; and they tend to showcase local artists' paintings/art on a feature wall to the left of the entrance as you walk in. The service is fairly fast to take care of you; but if you want water or plain coffee, you may have tonpour it yourself, as they leave that on a stand next to the entrance. I consider Millcreek as great place to go to for a brunch or dinner, and or just a simple Java of your choice. They have never disappointed me, but they have impressed me a few times.

I didn't know that this cafe is exist! Coming here after seeing their Instagram from my another foodie buddy who sent me this place's picture of i special menu for the weekend "Nasi Lemak". A popular breakfast rice in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Nasi lemak is basically a coconut rice with many side dishes but anchovies (ikan bilis) and sambal are must! The cafe was serving nasi lemak with sunny side up eggs, crispy anchovies (ikan bilis), pork belly (that was hidden under the eggs), cucumber, pineapple, sambal and kerupuk (crackers). Serving on banana leaves that makes it different! I laughed with my partner's comment, "this is the first non Asian restaurant that I visited which serves kerupuk in Canada" I realized and agreed with his statement. It's a family ownership restaurant who came from Singapore. Very nice lady and son! The lady came and asked me how the food was. I said I finished it all. I know the Sambal has been Canadianized a bit by not too much heat on the Sambal but it's still flavourful Sambal. The ambience is cozy and industrial roof setting which I enjoy. We finished our meal with coffee. He chose mochaccino and I had the Spanish coffee. A bit booze on the weekend won't harm you

I was very excited to dig in to the beautiful plate of eggs benedict florentine that was served to me! Quickly disappointed at the bland flavour of the hollandaise and cool-to-the-touch hash browns. I think the chef prepared the plate and everything got cold while he prepared the eggs. Eggs, however, were poached perfectly, hollandaise had perfect texture, but no zest, no seasoning. A+ on presentation, service, atmosphere C- on flavour & temperature

A disappointing experience overall. Nice looking food with quality ingredients, but unbelievably bland. How could anything that looks so good taste so boring? I don't think I could make food this dull if I tried. I had a breakfast sandwich, made with a lovely looking but very dry bread. No sauce of any description save a bit of butter or margarine on the bottom made for a very crunchy, dry, chewy sandwich. My boyfriend had the Mexican omelette which, amazingly, was also very boring and bland in flavour, and for $13!! How anything called Mexican have almost no spice or flavour is beyond me. I should have twigged that something was up when I noticed the menu mentioned in bold that chorizo is MEAT. Wow, I pity them if their regular clientele doesn't know this. Quaint set up but disorganized, with a young and inexperienced (albeit polite) staff. For example, no one told us to help ourselves to coffee after we paid for it. No one tells you to seat yourself or where to get menus. I guess they must rely on regulars for their business, because I can't think of anything to recommend about this place. We won't be back. Shame, I was so excited to try this place out! Sadly trend and a local / sustainable bent does not a good business make.

Mill creek Cafe is a cool Cafe/restaurant located in the French quarters. The service was prompt and courteous. The meal was slightly greasy which made the potatoes get a bit soggy. However, the taste was good and the ambience was great. My vegan scrambled tofu was 17.50.

This cozy corner cafe offers a warm atmosphere and delicious food, perfect for a quiet stop on a busy afternoon or after a nice run through the Mill Creek Ravine. Have been here a few times and do not have any complaints. The food is really good, homemade soups and sandwiches and fresh salads, paired with inviting decor and friendly staff, the perfect place to share lunch with a friend. Haven't been here during peak hours, but have never had trouble with parking or getting a table for two. The prices were fair for the quality of the food and for the experience. Would definitely recommend and would love to eat here again.

I like coming here because it's not usually as busy as other places on a weekend morning (though there are days that I've had to wait for tables). You're never rushed here though, even though they could have a line out the door, you won't feel like you have to hurry and get out of there. The staff are super friendly and I don't think I've seen anyone in a bad mood even though they're packed (or alternatively, super bored). The food is pretty decent as are the prices. I like coming for the cinnamon bun which looks simple (no icing or anything) and flecked with some sort of seed - you feel like it's a healthier alternative. Then you break into it and it's fluffy and soft and crying out to be doused in butter (you should definitely douse it in butter) and it tastes perfect. This bun, a pot of tea and I am in heaven. Not to say that their other food isn't great (it is) but I've got a soft spot in my heart for this bun.

Cute little cafe just outside downtown, specializing in breakfast / brunch options and coffee beverages. I ordered take-out from here one morning, ordering the vegan tofu scramble. It was a creative one, with delicious roasted red peppers and onions, a vegan havarti cheese, a nice side salsa, a delicious homemade dense whole grain bread, and a little pineapple. $17 or so for the dish, about standard for Edmonton. Very friendly staff. Good spot for brunch.

Went for a breakfast date with the hubby on a weekday and was pretty surprised about how busy this place is! We did get seated right away though. I like the Art Deco type vibe and we were able to find a spot street parking nearby. Water is self serve and I believe the coffee is as well, but that gets added to the bill. I ordered a hot chocolate and was not disappointed. I'm honestly not big on breakfast like the hubby is, but there is a good assortment of choices. I strayed from my usual eggs benny and gave their corned beef hash a go, and hubby wanted gravlax, so ended up with a gravlax omelette. Definitely a different kind of breakfast than what I usually get, but the portion was good for me, in fact I couldn't finish, so I let my hubby eat the rest. I also like how they have a bakery type display at the front and how there was some gummy candy you can help yourself to with tongs while you pay at the cashier.

We got a couple of things: an Almond Croissant, Bulgogi Poutine, a Lavender London Fog with oat milk, and a Peppermint Mocha with oat milk. My Almond Croissant was okay. I know almond croissants are made with leftover pastries, but there was no texture at all. It just fell flat, and lookswise it was physically flat as well lol. It was alright. I wouldn't get the almond croissant again. The Bulgogi Poutine was pretty good. The fries were delicious and crispy. The sauce on top of the fries was slightly sweet, salty, and savory. For me, the bulgogi could've been more flavorful and it didn't taste fresh but I liked the overall dish. Lastly, the Peppermint Mocha was alright. It wasn't spectacular. And I felt the same way about my Lavender London Fog with oat milk. I wish there was more depth in my drink. I think the tea could've been steeped a little longer. Flavor was there in my drink, but it wasn't strong enough. It was slightly disappointing since I've had amazing London Fogs before, and this one just wasn't up to par. Also my drink was slightly warm, not too far off from lukewarm. I feel like the price doesn't exactly correlate with quality for most things here. If we come back here, I'd be willing to try different things and pastries. But I don't think my rating would change much.

In my (heavily biased) opinion Old Strathcona and Whyte Ave is the best part of the entire city. It…read moreprobably helps that I live nearby and have frequented this part of town practically every day of the combined fifteen years that I have called Edmonton home. The vibrant history of the area is one of Whyte Ave's defining features, each part of the streetscape telling its own story. One such example is the Hulbert block; a three-storey, brick clad, Edwardian commercial building that was built in 1912. On the street level of this building Edmontonians have been enjoying cozy cafe visits at Block 1912 (the cafe's name a tribute to the year that the building was built) since 1992. This cafe is one of the most notable spots on the avenue and their 33 year tenure makes them an iconic and reliable mainstay. Named Favourite Coffee Shop 2023 in the Edmonton Journal, it goes to show that even after this many years people seek out the familiar and comfortable spaces in the city. After all, Block 1912 really does feel a lot like going home. I have spent plenty of time at Block 1912 over the years and I have always been impressed by the immense amount of space that this cafe occupies. Full of time-weathered quirks, there is never any shortage of things to see and discover in this original-exposed-brick hideaway. Deep within the cafe the lighting dims as there are only windows at the very front of the space making natural light sparse. There are different levels of seating and mis-matched chairs. An entire nook is lined with shelves of books. I happen to know that there are secret drawers in various pieces of furniture that are filled with hundreds of notes, left by past patrons. Artists and musicians are encouraged to pitch their portfolios to the manager in order to be featured in the space - whether it be on the walls or to perform during one of the regular live music evenings. Visiting on a Saturday afternoon, I hadn't been to Block 1912 in a while and was interested in exploring everything that their menu has to offer these days. And there's a lot! The counter for ordering is about halfway into the cafe and the glass case full of pastries is an immediate distraction. Did you know that they also make their own gelato?? Of course all sorts of coffee beverages are available but Block 1912 also serves alcohol. There's a full menu of sandwiches, small plates, and comfort food. The staff is friendly and happy to answer any questions. I wanted to order a coffee to stick with the cafe vibe... But I'm not a straight black coffee kind of girl. The Ganache Mocha ($8.75) caught my eye but then I saw the list of 46 (!!) flavoured syrups that there are to choose from! It's almost impossible to decide on only one and after much difficulty I selected Toasted Marshmallow as an add-on to my mocha. Seemed like flavours that would make a lot of sense together! (If you ever want to find out what a "pineberry" latte tastes like go to Block 1912 and let me know what happens.) I settled into a table right at the front of the restaurant so that I could enjoy the small amount of natural light that reaches the interior. Receiving my coffee, I have to say that they got the memo! I was impressed at how much my toasted marshmallow ganache mocha looked exactly the part - there were even mini marshmallows on top! Was it incredibly sweet? Yes. Was there even coffee in this? Who knows! But this warm beverage was what I had been hoping for. Chocolatey with a definite toasted marshmallow flavour, I was delighted that this drink felt like a specialty cafe creation. In the interest of having an entire lunch, I wanted to order something off of the sandwich menu. The Hot Italian Grill seems like the sandwich to get. But the Turkey Apple Brie Sandwich ($16.00) felt seasonally appropriate and I picked that one. A soup or salad is also included, turning this dish into a meal. There were two daily soups available and the Vegetable Beetroot Soup also seemed to match the falltime vibe. I liked that the bread was a lot more interesting than a plain white or brown type. Instead, this bread was studded with what appeared to be cranberries - an ideal match for a turkey sandwich! The brie cheese was gooey and melty. I barely noticed the apples. It was a decently good sandwich but there wasn't a whole lot of filling and I could have easily made something like this at home. I liked the flavour combination though. The soup was warm and flavourful with a fairly fine dice of veggies within. I was expecting a more prominent beet component (maybe not a full borscht but somewhat closer to that) and I'm not sure if I noted the beets at all. If there was any, they were chopped very small and completely mixed in with the other vegetables. I also had to try the Herb Crusted Chicken Pot Pie ($18.00) from the Comfort Food part of the menu. Who doesn't love a soul-warming comfort food on a chilly day? It was even raining! Also served with soup or salad, we decided to try a salad

I'll definitely be coming back for a cappuccino the next time I'm in the area, as well as looking forward to trying their affogato and gelato when the weather is warmer.
